We have been going to Pet Headquarters for about 9yrs now. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Thomas. He is friendly, knowledgeable , reasonable and tells you how it is. I can only hope that when he retires, the new vet taking his place will be just as friendly and helpful as he is. Thank You, Dr. Thomas, for all that you have done for our pets all these years.

I took my 2 babies a week ago. Nothing like Dr. Thomas was awesome he saved one of my babies lives. I took them in for Allergy Shots they did not get it whatever they got did not work. I drove from Bakersfield was not worth the drive. Their prices have gone up a lot. They want me to take my babies back, why to get more money out of my son. I think he paid enough and it didn t even help waste of time, money.

This is NOT Dr. Thomas, the farm vet. Prices have spiked, treatment is "new school." For example, Dr. T would charge $25 for an annual prednisone shot for skin allergies. New Vet quoted me $60 for a new nonsteroidal allergy shot. When I got to the counter, the price doubled! We'll try the Somis vet or Dr. Christie's old office on Dawson.

Miss Dr.Thomas but these folks try to help you, take care of your pet and its health. It's a little disorganized and you're not sure who to finalize the bill with but as long as my fur baby is cared for at reasonably prices we are happy. Grateful too for prescriptions and suggestions for online treatment that is affordable. Thank you.

We have taken our pets to Pet Headquarters for years and years Dr Thomas was amazing and priced fairly .
This new Dr . is ridiculous! I took my dog in for a 1 month allergy shot which I told them when I made the appointment.
They have him a 3 month because that was what he last time . They did not consult with me 1 bit and charged me $67 .00 plus $ 3.75 for sharps disposal . Are you kidding me ? He makes the clients cover the costs of his sharps disposal which at this price in no out of pocket for him .
Then he argued with me when I said I was not paying for the 3 month . This dude is all about the $ . I would not recommend him and I am never taking my dog there again !

Dr. Thomas told me he doesn't like hiring small women when I told him I was interested in the vet tech field because "they're not strong enough." I had used him for my two pets growing up and a few times for the two dogs I just adopted two years ago. Instead of using apoquell and cytopoint for my both of my dogs dermatitis, (which I found out is cutting edge and safer for my dogs when I went to another vet) he used injectable steroids!!!

He is sexist, old school, and also has very poor bedside manner. When I took my ailing dog to him for an emergency worrying If she was dying, a month before she died years ago, he said "well, you know, old dogs die." No compassion and terrible delivery. I only went to him for my other pets because I thought maybe he was good, despite his lack of kindness.

I had been here few times after Dr Thomas left. The new vet seems very thorough and was helpful in diagnosing my pet with Cushing disease. My ruffin is doing amazing since last three weeks after starting medication for the same. Thanks. All the best for your endeavor.

Thursday my dog had neck pain. We took him to a pet ER, the staff put a dog leash on him, I mentioned the dog had neck pain, but them didn t listen, dragged him into the office. Our dog did not show any approves next day.
So I called Pet headquarters, they squeezed a time at 5:45pm the same day. People here are very kind, they handle my dog very gentle, carrying dogs in and out. They care about the animals from the heart.

Great with cats and dogs. Busy most days and Saturdays are crazy. Affordable and helpful. Losing a pet is a hard experience and he was a much better experience than I had in the past. They let you take all the time you need and they even ask if I wasted my pets belongs back like the collar or blankets.

I went to Dr Thomas for 25 years. He was amazing. Never overcharged and had integrity, just an all around great Vet. I have used the new vet 5 times and unfortunately referred a couple of people. The prices are outrageous , he is in it for the money. I was double charged because 2 vets saw my dog on the same day. I was also charged for a procedure not performed. This is so disappointing. I had the same experience with the somis vet. It's sickening really.

How I wish that zero stars was an option. I know this post is long but any of you out there who love your pets like family NEED to read it and really listen to what I am telling you because I am absolutely heart broken from the decisions Dr.Thomas made on my dog's behalf.

I took my baby girl Izzy, who is a Labrador/Shepherd mix to see Dr.Thomas on the 5th of February because she had gingivitis. Dr. Thomas told me she has an autoimmune disease and put her on Prednisone without doing any testing or a basic physical, simply looked at her teeth , prescribed medicine, and sent us on our way. I thought this was odd but I trusted his opinion since he is the professional. After a week I noticed that she wasn't responding to the medicine, her gums still looked inflamed and that she wasn't acting herself while on it. So I decided to inform him and brought her back in for a re-check on February 16th. During this visit Dr. Thomas commented on how bad her breath was but he still did not do a physical exam or talk to me about any sort of testing to see what was going on with her. All he did was up her Prednisone intake to two pills every other day and gave me antibiotics. Well, my Izzy died on the morning of the 19th from internal bleeding, which I was later informed is one of the side effects of the Prednisone. She was only 6 years old. I am beyond upset that he never took her temperature, blood or discussed alternative options with me. When I expressed how up set I am at this terrible loss to his front desk they expressed their sympathies, but when Dr.Thomas decided to call me and discuss my concerns he told me that my male dog had a tumor and that's why he died! She is not a he and she had gingivitis! His response to me telling him this was simply, "oh sorry". Veterinarians are supposed to be the professionals, the ones who know the best steps to take, so naturally we trust them more because that is what they went to school for and why we pay them the big bucks!

To make matters worse he was also the overseeing veterinarian for my older female chihuahua who is 15 years old. She has had a bad cough for a little while so when I brought her in he listened to her heart and said it's because she has an enlarged heart and that she will die of heart disease anyway. So he put her on, you guessed it, PREDNISONE and Lasix, which both are very extreme medications for a 7 lb geriatric dog. He at least put her on antibiotics as well since he said it sounded like she also had fluid in her lungs. Well after this whole situation happened with Izzy I decided to get a second opinion, something I wish I would have done MUCH sooner. This other veterinarian did x-rays, full panel blood work and urine testing for her kidneys and told me that she does not have an enlarged heart and took her off the heart medicine immediately. He then told me that this heart medicine could have done real damage if I had kept her on it. So why was she coughing? Because she has a collapsing trachea, something Dr.Thomas might have realized if he had tested her. Luckily Tia is receiving proper care under this new veterinarian and is doing better.

Dr.Thomas almost made the terrible mistake of taking both of my babies from me. Nothing will bring back my beautiful baby girl, nothing. But he didn't even have the decency to make sure he was talking to the right patient when he called. Let alone be bothered to express HIS sympathies and acknowledge HIS mistakes. I will never, EVER bring another animal to him or allow any of my friends and family to give him the opportunity to destroy their families like he did with mine. SHAME ON YOU!!!

SO DISAPPOINTED!! I wish I could select NO stars. I don't like leaving bad reviews for local business but my last experience was terrible!!! I have been going to Dr. Thomas for many many years! I took my dogs in to get their teeth cleaned and I got there before 8am. I was the first one there as they told me it's first come first serve they told me if I got there first they would get my dogs done first. I told them my older dog experiences stress and anxiety (she's almost 13) when shes at the vet and to please not leave her in the kennel for too long. I also took her in early so she could also have a full body X-ray done. I took her into Dr. Thomas back in March for a couple lumps and he told me to just watch them and to let him know if they got any bigger. Well they did get bigger so I requested to have an X-ray to insure they weren't cancer or anything serious. He replied "why do you want an X-ray" I said I'm just trying to be proactive and make sure there's no cancer or anything serious he replied "you wont be able to see anything anyways and what are you going to do operate on her if she tumors all over her lungs" I have never had a vet talk to me like that. He grabbed my dog said "I'll do X-rays it's your money and I'll take it" and he walked out. I was blown away. I asked the front desk what time my dogs would be ready for pick up and they told me 11am or 1pm at the latest. I called at 1pm and they told me they still had two surgeries ahead of them and that they are there till 6pm and they would call me when they are ready for pick up. So my dogs sat in a kennel for 6+ hours (with no food or water) because they couldn't have anything to eat or drink prior to being put out for their cleaning. They advised me that I had to cut off any food or water on Thursday night for their appt Friday morning. So my dogs went 18 hours with NO WATER! After the cleaning once I got home my older dog had a BAD reaction she starting shaking uncontrollably, could barely walk, she was lethargic, and weak. I tried calling them but they were closed. I had to rush my dog to Westlake Animal hospital where they had to draw blood and do tests to insure she was OK. They advised me that she was in distress and very dehydrated. I also never heard back from Dr. Thomas with my dogs X-ray results! I have never experienced such unprofessional, poor, and cold treatment for the many years I have gone to Pet Headquarters. Very sad!! I DO NOT recommend this place to ANYONE!

Took our Tucker in because he started sneezing like crazy a few days ago and it wasn't getting better. A friend had recommended this place a year ago and it was a year ago we went in and had our Buddy put down because he was so very sick with no hope of recovery. My daughter came in then. This was the first time for my husband and self to meet doc. He was direct. Addressed the issue, looked up his nose, gave him an antihistamine shot and prescribed antibiotics and was out in 5 min. Liked his straightforwardness. The reasonable price and his expertise will have us coming back.

Save money, save time, and make a life long friend...

Save money, save time, and make a life long friend by going to Dr. Thomas. Last time we were in his office, we met a girl in the waiting room, who drove from Santa Barbara w her dog, after going to multiple other vets, because Dr. Thomas is "the best." I'll tell you why you should go to him if you have any doubts at all.

A few months back we were sitting in the ER of Conejo Valley Vet in Westlake, with all the machinery and equipment at their disposal, and what the guy (wasn't really fond of him and he didn't really seem to care about Dewey at all) told us was: I can't tell you anything without running $1,000 in tests. It was a Saturday morning at 5am and Dewey was struggling. We decided to drive further to Dr. Thomas on Monday because we trust him. We brought Dewey to Dr. Thomas, and within a minute he pointed out he was dehydrated and it looked like his kidneys. He ran the blood work for a fraction of what we were quoted at Conejo Vet... Dr. Thomas was spot on. While it was not likely he would make it after seeing the numbers on the blood work, Dr. Thomas gave us a fighting chance. We have peace knowing we did everything we possibly could. We got to spend the last few weeks with our best friend fighting the infection to see if we could heal his kidneys. When the infection cleared, we realized he was still in pain and he kidneys were failing beyond help. At the equivalent of a 90 yr old man, we had to let him go. It took me a few weeks to write this because Dewey was such a great companion to my entire family, especially to my girlfriend Olivia who took him for walks every day and spent hours at the park with him and her other dog friends.

We might have let it go further than we should with Dewey because we love him so much and he eventually had a seizure in my arms the morning before he went. Dr. Thomas let us do everything we possibly could before we accepted it was his time. His kidneys were causing him to vomit and not retain any water as well as extreme pain. It was so hard to watch him suffer.

Only a true animal lover will understand the desire to hold onto your best friend and do everything you possibly can, but instead of worrying about money and a business, Dr. Thomas helped us focus on what was important, and we were able to do that with him. I can't thank him enough and we are so grateful for the team at Pet Headquarters.

Dr Thomas took such beautiful care of my collie Taylor during her life, and when it was time to say goodbye he couldn't have been more kind and gentle to her and my self. He made a horrible situation as easy as possible. I can never thank him enough.

We've been going to Dr. Thomas for years. So disappointed with the new vet. Went in for a rabies booster last week and was told my dog was covered in fleas and needed immediate treatment. White haired, pampered bichon mix with not one black crawling flea! Verified with groomers 4 days later. New vet definitely trying to upsell products. Very dissatisfied.

I take both my purebred dog and my ordinary house cat here.

Dr. Thomas is nice and personable. He is efficient; he doesn't waste your time. He is very knowledgeable and conservative in his approach, which is comforting to me. I don't care for veterinarians who just throw drugs at everything that comes through the door. He is a very no-nonsense kind of vet. He doesn't charge for every little thing--if I've overreacted and there's nothing medically wrong with my pet, I don't get charged.

I have a vet hospital literally two blocks from my house, yet I drive 30 minutes one-way to see Dr. Thomas because he has quality service. His waiting area is clean and odor-free. The staff is friendly and helpful. Every time I call, it's for something urgent and they are always able to squeeze me in.

If there are negative reviews about Dr. Thomas, I would simply encourage you to give this vet the benefit of the doubt and visit him.

This place is not what it used to be with the new Vet. People working in the front are extremely rude. Took my dog to get two shots but only came out with one because they didn t have the second I scheduled. Vet only gave him his one shot and did nothing else but still charged me for a wellness check he did not perform. I d go somewhere else until they get a new Veterinarian.

I just want to say that I love this office. Tina at the front desk is always kind and very efficient. All the staff including the Dr. are great.
I have even gone in on a walk in basis on a Saturday and it was worth the wait ( which was not bad at all). They are the best priced as well as for many of us are unable to put out thousands for care of our fur babies (and furless). I now feel like I can afford to provide the care that they need without waiting to have enough money.
Thank you to all for taking such great care of my Harley.

Incompetent nurse who handled my pets surgery was ...

Incompetent nurse who handled my pets surgery was not only uneducated, but lacked the care to understand the procedure at hand, and in turn misinterpreted it to the doctor. Staff did not care to discuss any after care procedures, but was more than willing to charge me for a doctors consultation call, despite the fact they never offered me that option due to covid. This hospital does not genuinely care about your pet. When a complication and potential infection from the procedure came up, the staff promised to call me back, however they did not. When I called THE SAME LADY back she was completely baffled and had no recollection of my conversation with her earlier until about 10 minutes into my call. I would trust someone on Craigslist who does surgery in their garage assisted by YouTube before I bring my pet here again. PET HQs license needs to be examined, if they even have a license. My recent interaction with them instilled little faith that they are educated in their practice.

Dr Thomas operated on my Italian Mastiff. He had a torn ACL. HE did a really nice job.
I'm writing this review now about 1 1/2 years after the operation. Simba's leg is in terrific shape
and he is back to his original heavily muscled build.

The impression I have of Dr Thomas's practice is that it's a no frills down to earth practice.
Spanking clean (he had me accompany Simba into the surrey room). The staff are like busy bees.

I have recommend Dr Thomas to many people and that have been very happy.

I do tell them one thing though. They need to expect down to earth matter of fact service. While you are paying the client is the pet in their eyes.

On top of all of this their prices are excellent.

Dr Thomas also has a very good way with dogs. One of my dogs is quite a handful, but he was pretty calm with Dr Thomas.

I live more than an hour away and it's really worth the drive.

Best veterinarian clinic I've ever been to. They are so reasonable and caring. I recommended my neighbor take her pet there and they saved him. He would have died had he not received the care they gave him, all for a reasonable cost too.

I travel over 5 hours away to have my pets dental done by pets headquarters. It's beyond worthwhile considering the cost is a fraction of what other vets across the board cost and the service is great. Quick and easy. More than thankful to say the least

We had an emergency with our dog. He was very sick and we received quick and kind service by the staff, on a Saturday. The doctor was very thorough in his examination and explained various options and outcomes of the treatments available for our pet. Would come back again and will refer them to all.

Asked if they accept Care Credit.....she says "not sure, just bring it in and we'll run it and see if it goes through. If not, have a backup." That was her answer. I say "can you ask someone that might know a little better?" She says "no, then I'll just tell you that we don't accept it".

Thanks! My dog is sick and all I want to do is get her some help...instead, I have to deal with this woman who has no idea what is going on around her.

Funny thing is, I actually called because of the smiling faces on Google Maps. Go figure.

They Take walk-ins on Saturdays which was great when my Boxer got a puncture bite wound Friday evening. In and out, no unecessary tests or procedures. They do what is needed to treat your pet and keep the costs reasonable.

Our family is sad to share that this past week our Riley boy passed away due to an undiagnosed condition missed by Dr. Thomas. We had visited with this Doctor for almost 10 years and he never wanted to run tests even after I insisted. I was always sent away with the usual, Cortisone shot for his allergies.
Every time I brought up certain issues such as itchy skin, loss of hair and eye problems Dr. Thomas would say it was just allergies and would send us off with our regular cortisone shot and enalapril for his heart murmur. I always trusted Dr. Thomas and his judgment and did what he had told us to do.

This past weekend, I noticed Riley had stopped eating and I knew there was something Very Wrong.
The next day, I rushed him to Dr. Thomas
office Monday morning at 8am, but they were closed even though their website indicated they were open at 8am. I then took matters into my own hands and took him to another Veterinarian.
Upon arrival, Dr. Singh ran a simple blood test and stated Riley had Liver issues and that he only had a few hours to live. This was a shock and not what I wanted to hear. All along I thought I had been doing everything possible for our Riley boy, but instead he was slowly dying of liver disease.
Sadly, he passed away the following morning leaving my family devastated.

After doing some research, I came to find out that liver issues can often be treated and managed if caught early. If only Dr. Thomas had taken the time to give Riley the proper care he might still be alive. I miss my Riley so much and would hate for this to happen to another innocent animal. Please think twice about taking or bringing back your pets to Dr. Thomas.
I know I will not be returning to him once I m ready to welcome another pet into our loving home.

Was there yesterday for the 1st time with my 2 cats. Dr.Thomas is diffently the big dog. He had 2 assistants working hard just to keep up with him. Smart, caring, helpful and gentle with my animals. There must have been 7 people waiting when I arrived at 10am. I was in and out of there in half an hour max. Great prices, clean store, quick and efficient staff. Records were checked and My Cats were vaccinated and medications were prescribed too. I hate to say it but my 1st impression was, This Place is a Zoo. I know now, That My 1st impression wasn't true.

Poor communication!

Poor communication!
I was told 2 times that approval (Via fax) was given to refill a Carprofen prescription for my dog. Contacted supplier twice who told me requests were denied?
My third call I was told that I needed to bring in my dog for blood tests and a checkup for approval. For a 20 year old dog, he's doing amazing and i'm not putting him through that. Now that. Dr Thomas is gone, changes are being made. Time to look at other options.

Our cat suffered from gi problems and we initially took him to a vet ER. After not being able to treat our cat they suggested an expensive ultrasound to check for a blockage. We instead came to Pet HQ for a second opinion and we were very satisfied. The doctor and staff were very informative and polite. They promptly helped our cat and provided him with treatment that helped our cat improve. He was tested for pancreatitis and was luckily negative, but the doctor helped us identify possible toxins that our cat may have been exposed to. They asked lots of questions and answered ours. They did great work and I'm kicking myself for not going here first instead of the ER to get expensive diagnostics without any treatment. Thanks Pet HQ for taking care of our furbaby!

This has to be the worst vet that I have ever been to. Went early today to have a pet put down and while the staff member showed empathy the vet that put down my animal, I believe his name was Doctor Thomas, showed absolutely no empathy and rather treated my animal like an object. He came in, took my animal while saying "you probably don't want to see this", left, came back with my dead animal's body still twitching and proceeded to say "alright it's done bye". I was furious but didn't want to cause I scene as I was already in mourn activity. I would never recommend this vet to someone who needs to put down a pet. This "doctor" obviously doesn't care much for animals and their owners.

Best Vet in Camarillo! Won't bend you over with the Bill, unlike everyone else these days! Honest! He's like a Small Town Honest Vet, not in it for the money but to Help those that need it!

Dr Thomas has been our vet for 25 yrs. If you dont like his people skills you have missed his excellent skills as a devoted and skilled vet. For him it is all about your pet. He never over diagnosed our puppies and there have been 7 of them. If you need your ego massaged Dr Thomas is not your man but, if want a real vet to take care of your furbaby he's your man.

Misdiagnosed my dog for spinal injury instead of doing xrays. Back and forth here for over 3weeks telling them something is still wrong by her 2nd dose of cortisone her belly swelled up hard like a softball. Went back and still oh it's a slipped disc no xrays. Gave her predisone & told me to kennel until meds were done. Went to get xrays at another Vet Steriod poisoning with toxic pryometra. My dog is fighting for her life in surgery right now. Not willing to help with a problem they help to progress. Asked for a non-profit hospital no help.Tina at front desk is rude and uncompassionate. Seems like their for the people and animals. But, I guess you get what you pay for as they say. Cheap isn't always better. This is so sad, my dog has been there since she was 4 months old and she is 9 yrs. old. I hope my dog doesn't die!!!!

After reading the other reviews on YELP and seeing a fairly high rating I thought I had picked a good vet to take my cat to. I should have been clued in when I made the appointment over the phone that I was in for the worst customer service and professional experience I could even imagine. I was curtly cut off when explaining my cat s problem that they would see me next week- *click*. Upon arrival I was seen to quickly and within five minutes my cat was aggressively held down and had blood drawn without so much as a greeting or attempt to calm her down. She went into traumatic shock and was unable to move her neck for three days due to how Dr. Samuel Thomas and his assistant had handled her. After speaking to other vets in the area that confirmed that Dr. Thomas has received other complaints and my cat should not have had that reaction if appropriately handled.

While I was there Dr. Thomas asked me where I lived and pulled another patient s file and told me that she was my neighbor. They told me where she worked, her exact apartment number and that her check bounced and they were reporting her to the police. I explained that I did not know my neighbor and this was not my business. After questioning me further they finished up and let me leave. When I had to return to pick up her medications I explained that I did not feel comfortable returning Pet Headquarters because I felt his practice was unethical and unprofessional due to him sharing confidential patient information with me. The vet assistant left the room at this moment and Dr. Thomas proceeded to ask what was said. After explaining what he shared with me he said he was questioning me because everyone knows their neighbor and when I did not he thought it was suspicious and said he thought I was going to scam him out of money. I explained he does not know anything about me, or how long I have lived in the complex. I also explained that the neighboring apartment is not numerically ordered and the location of the disclosed apartment was beneath me which I had never had contact with. I explained I felt it was inappropriate to share that information and I would be going elsewhere. He responded that he has been doing this for a long time and is not concerned with building up his practice, he stated There are plenty of vets in Camarillo and you leaving is your prerogative not mine.

In addition to this horrible experience they never brought up concern about her kidney, phosphorus, chloride levels and presence of an infection from her blood panel and by the time I took her to another vet she passed away within 48 hours since her disease had progressed. I am filing a complaint with the Veterinary Medical Board of California as well as reporting this issue to the Santa Barbara Ventura Veterinary Medical Association. I hope you learn from my experience and find your furry family members the best care possible.

They are amazing! They saved my cat, Toulouse, when everywhere else said he wouldn't make it and to just let him go. Dr. T and his wife would even come in and check on him on closed days. I won't go anywhere else.

It 1st started when we Brought our litter of show dog dalmatians to get a simple dew claw removal, and they messed up one of the puppies and had to return. When we brought him back it was a nightmare , Would not let us make an official appointment told us to bring him in for an exam said they would not charge us then we had to leave him there (330pm), Came back at 7:45 from the time they told us to come back and he wasn't ready And said hes almost done just need another 30 minutes, 920 pm finally got h back after hearing him screaming for the last hour , came out in a cast and overly Sedated. Our puppy has a scar looks like a horse shoe looking thing now on that leg that needed to be redone. Van after all that extra suffering the puppy had to go through the doctor charge my wife after telling me that there was going to be no charged and then when I called back to ask them about that they said O sorry about that and they were quit it our account.
