Beautiful space with a lovely shop and cafe and a varied, well curated collection
A great place full of modern art, mostly enjoyable if you're into the abstract side of it.
I have been to the gallery twice before and enjoyed it, but the current exhibition is batting the game out of the park. The pieces are thoughtfully chosen and sensitively displayed: I wish I had time to go round again. Look out for the exquisite little Turners and Tracey Emin's cat......
Beautiful building; free to visit and excellent tour guides
Surprised that it was really good - the venue, next to a stinking mound of seaweed on Margate, wasn't I spiring, but the displays were excellent with a mix of contemporary and traditional art. Well worth a visit. Helpful and informative staff.
Great location, interesting building.... Exhibition on 'Risk' had about five items worth considering. The remainder was pretentiously explained and really not worth exhibiting in my personal opinion.
Only been a couple of times as Margate is a good hours drive away. Both times I have been there has been interesting exhibits. The recent one was of particular interest to me as it was photography based, which is my main hobby and interest. Not a big gallery and you will probably only need an hour or so to take it all in but definitely well worth a visit.
Went to see Seaside Photographs - very good but could have had more about Thanet itself.
Whilst the gallery was amazing the experience in the coffee shop wasn t - very poor selection of things to eat and when asked if anything was gluten free (my husband has celiac s) the staff were very offhand and said we could have the oat flapjack which obviously we couldn t - given the current profile of allergies you need to get your act together.
Love visiting here. Just feels good. Always seems to have a interesting exhibition on.
Nice space but not much art on display. Main hall was interesting.
There should be a small charge to help with the running costs
It's a good way to kill an hour or so out of the wind and rain, and you get to see some great pieces, with friendly staff!
An Arty Seaside day-out 90 minutes from St Pancras International followed by a 15 minute walk from Margate station to the Turner gallery along a crescent sandy beach. Free entry, donations accepted. Friendly and helpful staff throughout and fully accessible. Inspirational installation by Yinke Shonibare, romantic views from the enormous windows and delicious savoury and sweet treats in the southwest facing cafe. There was a wedding party taking place in the afternoon therefore no access to Leise Wilson's 365 Days exhibition.
Interesting exhibitions. Always something new to go and see. Disability access.
Only ground floor open - more staff than there were members of the public, exhibition was very poor and exhibits were less than 20 items (seriously)...... so I wonder how they can justify money being thrown at a place like this from the public purse
very cool but some of the artwork is confusing but still I liked it.
Went in to get out of the rain and spent a very enjoyable time even after the rain stopped.
Great attraction & the location has wonderful views
Two big windows to capture the sea view that so inspired Turner, but Contemporary Art...like marmite. I wouldn't have thought my love for Surrealism, The Metaphysicals and Pop Art put me in the mainstream but horses for courses.
A fairly pompous main exhibition but the secondary one by inmates was good but thin...really not taken off this place
Striking building with great spaces but unfortunately the art was not to my tatse
Beautifully designed building and some very considered exhibits that impressively put BAME artists at the forefront of their exhibits. Suitable for families too, with activities to suit.
What an amazing venue, interesting shopping and thought provoking exhibitions worth the effort of getting there
Great open space galleries, good for mobility scooter/wheelchair access. Cafeteria, good food. Knowledgeable staff.
Very open space and good flooring for wheelchairs, lift and toilets accessible too.
You have to visit it to find very not ordinary views....
Not much there and what's there is basic, quite disappointing. However, the arts and craft event was great fun for the kids. All in all, not the best experience but far from the worst, wouldn't recommend for anyone who's not majorly into art.
We visit the Turner Contemporary regularly. There is always something interesting to see and the view of the harbour from the coffee shop is great. It's a lovely place to visit in winter.
They tried to strike a balance between modern and traditional art but there isn t sufficient space to do justice to both.
The cafe served ok food but the prices are aimed at those down from london and the quality did not warrant the cost.
Worth a visit but don t plan to spend more than 30minutes.
Really good place to go and it is free entry currently
Loved it. We visited to see the Katie Patterson exhibition. Free to entry, knowledgeable staff. Reasonable prices in the cafe.
Art? Hmmmmm! Rarely anything displayed that impresses. I understand people have different ideas about what is considered art so I'm sure some people find something of interest here but personally I have found the exhibitions mostly very poor and left a bit miffed and disappointed.
A major game changer in the art and cultural fortunes of Margate. Small enough for a quick visit but large enough to spend time there exploring the exhibitions.
Quality exhibition, but smaller than expected. Compared to the London galleries this is tiny, but if you're in the area its worth an hour or so of your time
Visited here many times .. each exhibition has been interesting for different reasons .. highly recommend a visit .. friendly staff .. great layout .. on site cafe ..
Also in a great location with lots of places to see locally ..
Was not impressed took gran kids was in and out in 30 min zzzzzz
Just a heap of tin, went to see Rodins The Kiss but it was a copy,as for Emins bed,you can keep it all,it's not art
Animals and Us is an interesting exhibition. The cafe"s food is tasty.
Lovely modern, bright gallery right on the sea front. Small, but complete with great art, cute little gift shop and nice cafe (with vegan options).
Love this place don't always like the art but worth a visit
The photography exhibition was dull.pictures were very small and set out with little thought. No story lead you through the exhibits.
However, the wall drawings by a local artist were worth the visit for those alone.
Not a patch on the Baltic Flour Mill or Tate Modern.
Having visited was not impressed by the Art, the room where the schools displayed was more impressive. The cafe's menu was very restrictive you could not get a sandwich and if you wanted brown bread and no cheese then you would starve.
Couldn't recommend more, they always have great exhibitions on and the staff are really helpful and very knowledgeable about the work
One of the best things we did in Margate was visit here. The We Will Walk exhibition was very powerful.
Forget the cost of the building. This is a wonderful attempt to bring something new and spectacular to Margate. The exhibitions themselves do vary in quality but it's always worth the visit. Hey! It's free after all.
Unfortunately the day we went to the turner they had nothing going on.how did you know we had visited.
Free entry / donation. Some interesting art or rubbish depending on your taste, but worth a visit
Lovely building, both traditional and contemporary art installations. Nice tea/coffee shop attached.
A very nice place to visit, I visited during the Turner Prize exhibition which was wonderful.
Seaside photography exhibition certainly worth a visit
Been to the turned a few times and they have some interesting exhibitions. It is in unfortunately ugly building and badly used space considering it's prime location.
We quite enjoyed our visit here. It's an interesting building but I guess I was expecting something like the Tate at St Ives. What's there is great, but it is quite small.
Great place and staff are good to work with when comes to delivering and collecting works
I've rarely enjoyed an exhibition. Always poorly laid out. The gift shop continually sells things not on display. Staff seem miserable.
A lot of space with nothing to show,I often wonder if the money spent was worth the Turner,Thanet is short on places for people to work. The Turner does have a restaurant to have a snack & drink but boy are the prices reflective of the amount of attention & money that the council have paid out.
An interesting gallery with changing exhibits. Worth visiting several times. Great architecture.
Good location and gallery spaces. This year we weren't impressed with the exhibits. Usually they're excellent.
Great gallery & exciting exhibitions, enthusiastic staff & yummy food in the cafe.
Amazing Public Place Please Visit
Great place to visit and just along from the beach. A real education for the younger ones and adults too. It's an inspiration whether you're into art or not, so make the effort to visit.
We went in and couldn't find much information. Seemed to be between exhibitions. We have been very happy with the gallery previously.
Very nice architecture and detail by David Chipperfield. Worth to visit.
There is no entrance fee. The coffee shop does great food. Just outside, near the beach and often in the sea is an Anthony Gormley 'man' The exhibits are interesting and often thought provoking. Gift shop is a bit on the expensive side. It's nice for a bit of wander, as some of the exhibits change from time to time.
Wonderful space for exhibiting contemporary art, well planned, accommodating large numbers. And huge lifts between each floor
