Trunkwell Mansion House Review

Just outside of Reading, excellent place for corporate parties..

We stayed at Trunkwell House overnight whilst attending a function for 600. The setting is lovely and the facilities were excellent from the public loos to the bathroom. The hotel has been recently redecorated to a high standard and was well staffed. On the whole it was terrific and very comfortable but just a couple of little niggles - the standard of cleanliness was excellent, but there was a used tissue in the toiletry box in the bathroom, and I gathered up three hair grips dotted around the bedroom. Also there was no lock or catch on the bathroom door - personally I like to bathe uninterrupted! The breakfast was very continental but plentiful and delicious - the large bowls of fresh cut melon, oranges, grapes and strawberries had everyone tucking in. I would certainly stay there again.

Went to the Christmas fair ....was lovely and fair prices for gifts and food .

Fantastic place absolutely beautiful staff very friendly definitely would stay again.

Was a works do. Food was good but the room was very cold. They eventually turned on the heating later in the evening.

Went to Christmas Party there a bit pricey but had some fun.

The brochure gives the illusion that you will see a glimpse of a cabaret show. You will be disappointed.

Five stars for the amaxing jazz singer performing on her own.

Food okay.

No plates on the table when you arrive to eat the bread (not great quality) set on the table - did they run out of such basic equipment?

Coffee station closed without warning.

Casino - small tables

Five stars for the DJ and music.

Show stopping cabaret show - NOT.

Overall poor service.

In summary not worth the money.

I attended a Christmas party event at trunkwell house. It was very extravagant. An Egyptian themed party. It felt like iwas on the set of an Indiana Jones fan film

A lovely venue, with great facilities for a corporate event.

Stayed here for a work trip and it was fantastic! From being greeted at the door by Tony to the beautifully presented breakfast. Made to feel welcome and at home at all times. Would recommend to big parties as well as couples or even on your own! So lovely! 10/10

Quite expensive and not much for the money . Wouldn't go there again.

Had my office Christmas party here. Great venue, had a fantastic time! The food served was delicious, but did come out around an hour late. The great entertainment made up for it though.

Great event venue with great staff and a warm welcome.

Beautiful wedding venue that offers a full package for anyone looking to get married in the area. I documented a wedding there recently and loved the interior as well as the exterior of the venue. Beautifully decorated marquee was spacious for well over a 100 people and the nearby fields made for a stunning backdrop to our sunset photos. The food as well as attentiveness of the staff were excellent.

We got married at Trunkwell house last year. The whole experience from booking through to the actual day was excellent. We'd recommend them very highly.

Had work Christmas party here. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed. Well decorated, but average-at-best food, small portions, no drinks included and very expensive bar, too many people crammed into the space and tiny dancefloor, 2 short and unimpressive entertainment act. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory "goody bag" containing packet of crisps, small bottle of water, and tiny chocolate bar. Bumper cars was great fun though.

Attended a wedding and the venue was gorgeous. The staff were a bit rude regarding the sound monitor in the hall. Carpet could do with a good clean also considering how much it costs to hire the place out.

I work here at the Christmas party's so I know the running of the place and it's 100% all round from freindly and happy environment to welcoming staff and food LUSH as always. Highly recommend.

Lovely venue for a Wedding. I would definitely recommend this Hotel for a wedding venue. I would also recommend Pop up play Village Reading as a Wedding creche for children going to the wedding.

Very good place for a wedding venue and easy to reach with a spacious car park. However the disabled toilet required negotiating two steps to reach.

Food average at best for mass catering it will do. Entertainment was good while dinner is served.

Trunkwell house go above and beyond for their guests. My sister recently had her wedding there and Tony and the rest of the staff were fantastic. Tony goes out of his way to make sure the bride and her family don't have to worry about anything. Hannah was constantly checking on my sister and her bridesmaid to make sure everything was running smoothly and we had everything we needed. Could not ask for more from a venue!

Went for a wedding in April 2018. Venue is amazing, very beautiful setting for the ceremony and then for the reception in the evening. Gardens are beautiful. Marquee set was great as there were a lot guests. The only issue was getting an uber back, as internet reception wasn't great and the place is far out so not many drivers wanting to come and pick up. Had to wait 20 mins for an uber

Lovely venue for wedding, staff go above and beyond, in making such a special day, extra special, they take all the stress away, for you to enjoy your day.

Just had a fantastic time at my daughters wedding yesterday 11/8/18 the whole day was wonderful the food and service was fantastic from the start until late into the night truly five stars.

We held our annual Wote Street People brainstorming day here. There are only 6 of us and we felt right at home. The meeting room was bright and airy. The bacon rolls were lush! Even though we were a small number, they still did a bbq lunch for us. We had just the right level of attendance, not in your face, but around if we needed them. Cost wise, definitely great value for money - we'll be back!

Attended a wedding reception here and it is a LOVELY location for such an event. Staff were very attentive and looked after the visitors very well.

Location is great. Rooms are lovely. Beautiful views. Only downsides are that the toilet is too high and the shower can't be both warm and powerful.

Uneven paths and the toilets too far away! Dodgems should be done on table numbers that way you don't have to queue for ages!!!

They are under new management...wouldnt recommend hiring for asian weddings

We attended a Christmas event. It was very nice but they made a total hash of the vegetarian orders and my wife's food didn't arrive until 20 minutes after the rest of our table and on other tables people were still waiting.

The rooms and facilities are fantastic with great staff. The food on the other hand was horrendous.

Had a wonderful meal this evening with my at The Dining Room at Trunkwell House. A small and intermate restaurant with a quiet and peaceful setting. We aren't the 'starter' type of people no matter where we go so we skipped those and went straight in for the mains.
I had the steak as did my wife. Both were cooked absolutely perfectly to our liking. Although we aren't the 'starter' type of people we are certainly the dessert type of people! I went for the sticky toffee pudding and my wife the chocolate orange gateaux. These were absolutely divine! The staff were fabulous and even though it was their opening weekend they were on point with their service. I sincerely hope they keep this going. I highly recommend.

Came here for a private function and for a Christmas party on separate occasions.

The private function was well executed and the food was of a high quality, staff were attentive and overall we had a good experience.

The Christmas party was really well done with an Alice in Wonderland theme. The dinner was delivered fast and piping hot and all of the actors and performers stayed in character throughout. They very skilfully the entertainment between courses so everything flowed very well.

Gorgeous manor style house. I've been here for a prom and for a Christmas craft fayre; there is substantial parking for big events. Haven't really encountered many staff but they did what they needed to, wasn't a very personal approach but they were never rude or offensive.

Only writing this to avert anyone else from making the mistake of booking this venue for their wedding like I did. As soon as they have your deposit they will lose complete interest in providing any kind of service. We hired the marquee for a summer wedding. The marquee linen was disgustingly dirty and the flooring is like a springboard which completely destroyed our wedding cake. The venue has no running water which we and our catering team were not informed of. The portable toilets they provide ran out of water halfway through the event which i am told has happened on previous occasions and yet has not been resolved. This left my quests unable to flush the toilets or wash their hands. On top of the sorry state the venue was in, it turns out they had another wedding in the venue two day's before and hadn't cleared up which meant they were cleaning well into the start of our wedding. I had raised my concerns with the venue months before the wedding but to no avail. This was a once in a lifetime event for me and my wife and Trunkwell House royally messed it up. Their response to all the issues is that they were not aware or guests hadn't approached them to complain which in someways would be fair had it not been for the fact staff were nowhere to be seen on the day. My advise to anyone considering this venue is STAY AWAYYYYY.

Entrance to house does not impressive. The garden was beautiful. The decking leading to the marquee for the dinner is in need of repair, uneven /bouncy flooring. View outside was amazing. Should make use of it. Big carpark. Catering was good.

We had our wedding reception here on the wettest day in July but it was fantastic. From first contact with Trunkwell all the staff were amazingly helpful and really seemed to care that the day was the way we wanted it. The planning was made easy with Lauren our dedicated planner offering suggestions and recommendations and stopping some of our sillier ideas from getting out of hand.
On the day Tony ran everything, taking all the stress out of making sure things happened when they were supposed to and he had it all worked out so it ran smoothly. He and was amazing at arranging the day so we (and our guests) got the most out of it - it was perfect. THANK YOU! From The Silsburys
