Did the Pico mountain day climb with Tripix (Rai was our guide). The email Comms were always friendly and Rai was a great guide - she told us bits about the volcano and flora/fauna, as well of course of providing plenty of encouragement and helping us pick the best routes. I should mention that my climb was bought forward by a day fairly last minute: this was due to the mountain weather forecasts and so that I see as a positive - i.e. they have guests' safety and experience in mind - rather than anything negative. N.b. transfers to/from Madalena are included in the price (e.g. if you don't have a car), but you do need to specifically request this in advance. Thank you Rai for an excellent - if somewhat tiring - day.

Amazing experience. We have done the overnight climb of the Pico together with Matteo. Very good guidance. Good equipment, poles, tent and warm sleeping bag. Some training with a heavy backpack up and especially back down is necessary, not to be underestimated. As a reward a great view, sunset and rise. Life time experience! 5 stars.

We booked a day tour with Rai of the Secret Lagoons and Caves on Pico. We didn't really know what to expect, but we had such a fantastic time. It was our only day on Pico, and Rai helped us make the most of it!

Tripix were flexible to meet our requirements, so we were lucky enough to be able to tag a trip to the vineyards onto the end of the day and ended up with a much needed wine-tasting after exploring a hidden, mystery cave.

We had assumed, wrongly it turns out, that we would go to a tourist attraction with a guide who would show us the first few hundred meters of a large cave, and that would be that. Instead, we donned a rather fetching orange suit and entered a cave which few have entered. It's location is not well-known and Tripix are keen to keep it that way!

Rai was an excellent, enthusiastic and knowledgable guide. We had a fantastic lunch in Sao Roque after visiting the Lagoons (which were beautiful) and getting to know Pico. We ended the day at the vineyards and headed to a local producer who happened to be having a tasting on that day - such lovely wine! We ended up taking a few bottles home with us...

If you want to see Pico and enjoy an adventure, we could not recommend a better way to do it than with Rai and Tripix!

Unfortunately, our experience with Tripix fell short of our expectations. We specifically decided to arrange for a guide because we wanted to do an overnight climb. Having never done such a climb and unsure of the conditions on Pico, a guide seemed like a good idea. We scheduled a date and Tripix included a backup date.

We came to Pico island for 4 nights to give ourselves a few days in case weather conditions weren't great. Sure enough, Tripix cancelled our original hike several days in advance due to a forecast of unstable weather, and we were offered a day climb instead. As forecasts changed, this date was suddenly moved earlier, and then cancelled again. In either case, an overnight climb was never offered. It seems that during the summer, with the influx of tourists, there are many more people doing the day climb and in situations of cancellations, whether due to considerations of profit or availability of guides, overnight climbs simply fall to the side. We were extremely disappointed, as we relied on Tripix to have this experience, especially in case of unfavourable weather conditions (we had spent a good amount of time and money preparing for the possibility of bad weather!) We did not complete the climb with them.

On the positive, Tripix refunded our deposit promptly and without any hassle when we realized they wouldn t be able to provide what we had signed up for. Pico looked beautiful and clear on our backup date, but unfortunately we were not there. We did however climb Pico during the day on our own without any trouble--no guide was necessary in good conditions!

I have little doubt that Tripix can provide an excellent experience on Pico. But you have to be prepared that they may not be willing to climb in potentially imperfect conditions and may not have a ton of flexibility in rescheduling during peak season. We weren t!

Fantastic company! Friendly staff and great experience! We did the general island tour and the wine tour and had a great time! The lava tubes are a sight to see and the views are magnificent. The staff make great recommendations for things to do after your tour, but the places they take you are truly one of a kind! Also the food was fantastic. We hope to come back but definitely a really good company to book your adventures!

Family business very well organized and complete. We give a 10 for their enthusiasm and motivation with the excursions they offer, sharing with tourists in a very close, pleasant, friendly, fun and polite way.

My partner and I hired the climb to the montanha do pico and made us a guide Raisa. A very nice and attentive girl with everyone in the group, made the excursion very fun, always encouraged us and was aware of who had difficulties or who needed anything. Raisa took many photos, both for her instagram and website, as well as for each couple in the group.

We recommend 100% to hire excursions with Raisa and Mateo, your partner and partner. They are very dedicated so that the experience of each tourist is the most complete and fun.

The overnight climb was simply amazing. Strongly recommended to have it with Tripix. Matteo is a great guide that does his best to make the expedition a memorable experience for everyone in the group. Special Kudos to Tripix also for the camping gear: the tent and the sleeping bag they provide are top quality North Face products, in perfect conditions.

We chose to climb Pico during the night in order to watch the sunrise at the top. The guide (Matteo) was great. I had climbed Pico before and a good guide really makes the difference.
We took 4h40 to go up and 4h20 to go down. The pace was adapted to the slowest ones. In my opinion, was a bit to slow, specially from Cratera to Piquinho, but that kinda various from group to group.
At the top we rested for a while and waited until everyone went down, so we were there alone in silence enjoying the view. Just before going down, Matteo gave us a bit of aguardente do Pico (local brandy) as an extra strength to go down.
Highly recommend Tripix and Matteo!

On a beautiful sunny day there is a tour too expensive for what is offered. Time spent indoors when the sun was out, and the discovery of nature when the fog approached ... "Taste wine" wrote the poster, in reality a simple visit to a liquor store. Very disappointed in the experience / cost ratio.

Unforgettable, wonderful experience climbing Montanha do Pico with Raisa and Matteo in Sep 2018. Enthusiasm, evident passion of the guides, superb motivational skills, sharing loads of useful mountaineering tips, with great emphasis on and respect for the mountain and preservation of the vegetation. I've been recommending Tripix to everyone around even since the climb. Obrigada Raisa e Matteo, obrigada Montanha!

Best choice for climbing mount Pico.

Best choice for climbing mount Pico.

Me and my girlfriend were very happy to have Raisa from Tripix as our guide for the hike on mount / volcano Pico especially as that was our first climbing experience.

We went there in November, offseason and were lucky to be the only ones with Raisa on our journey. Raisa was very positive and motivated us throughout the walk up and down the Pico making it a very interesting and enjoyable experience.

It was very easy to communicate with her and her passion for the trail and preservation of Pico as a nature s treasure and the demonstrated knowledge of the islands and volcanos, their history was very impressive.

She even suggested us a good restaurant for the evening and offered any help on our upcoming days in Azores if we would need it.

We would like to have had more time on island to have more tours with Tripix (e.g. wine tasting tour).

Definetely recommend bookking Tripix - Raisa and Matteo as your guide for experiences on Pico island and other Azores islands!!!

I had an amazing climb up Pico with Tripix. Our guide Raisa was super knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and attentive to the needs of our group. Our group was comprised of biologists and Raisa took extra time to teach us about the plants and birds of the mountain. It was a perfect day at the top of the Atlantic.

It has been a great experience! First day I went for Pico Island tour which I strongly recommend and we visited at first local wineyards and later many interesting and breathtaking spots through the island, our guide was very prepared and I Iearned a lot of things about the geology of this place. I was very satisfied. Next day I booked another tour to the near island of Faial (i took the ferry which is next to Tripix and it takes about 20 minutes and when I arrived there I had a local guide waiting for me and other people to pick us up), we visited local botanical gardens which holds a large variety of both endemic and exotic flora and then we went to Caldeira do Faial and Capelinhos, during the travel we stopped by at some beautiful spots. The guide was very good at giving us information about biological and geological facts of the island. The last day i decided to book another tour of pico island to visit the remaining places i had not seen (mainly the mountain side) and it has been a good choice: i had the chance to walk in a beatuiful, almost onyric, forest and see a lot of nice spots, for instance the long straight road and some mountain lakes and the astonishing underground cave Gruta das Torres. My only regret has been not choosing Pico Mountain tour (i had only three days) because some people I met during the excursion told were very satisfied with it but.. I will definitely come back !! Also, I had great company and I enjoyed all the lunches with good food and good wine. i highly recommend them, they made really enjoy my vacation.

Fantastic rise to the summit of Pico Island. With Tripix and Matteo's professionalism, the climb became easy, even in the most difficult areas. I went with my daughter and we were the 3 alone in Piquinho, enjoying a fantastic view that covered the 5 islands. On the way down we stopped several times to enjoy the views. Thank you very much Matteo, a very experienced and motivating guide, who became a friend. Thank you Mountain !!!!!!!!!!

We have just spent a very nice day with Raisa. She motivated us and supervised us with a smile, dynamism and kindness. The price of the excursion is well deserved (the entrance to the park, which is 20 euros is included in the price). Going up without a guide would have been much longer and much less motivating. The closest thing to the Garden of Eden, the Azores are a Portuguese archipelago in the mid-atlantic that are perfect if you want to get away from it all and explore in the sun.

The largest and most populated island has a lot to offer, including city walks, nightlife and breathtaking views of Caldeira das Sete Cidades (above) and lagoa do fogo.

If you have more than a week to spend here, hop over to the other islands for more hikes and activities like canyoning and whale watching.

Best time to visit: May, June, September (peak season July & August)

My husband and I were blown away by the awesome customer service of Tripix, including our super rad tour guide and Tripix owner, Raisa, intern David, and staff member Joana. We first did a Pico Day Tour with Raisa, who is super fun and hospitable. She made us feel like family and facilitated a very nice experience, and the trip mates who we did not know prior to the tour, clearly also felt very welcomed and we all had such a great day together. Raisa takes you to the some very breathtaking sites around Pico, and is clearly extremely passionate about what she does and the island of Pico. She is very knowledgeable and we learned a lot, all in an awesome environment. She seemed to tailor the trip to the group and the weather, and is very flexible depending on what the group wants. At the end of the tour we forgot the cheese that we bought in the van. I Instagrammed Raisa who got back to me immediately, saying that she saw we had left it and was heading to our accommodation at that moment. Sure enough she brought us our cheese! She had also offered to bring anything including food or medicine to a couple that at the beginning of the tour (upon pick-up) could not join the tour due to being ill. She is very genuine and very much cares about her customers and wants to ensure the best experience for your time in Pico. We also met another guide along the way that seemed very nice and genuine as well. After hours my husband and I contacted them to see if we can get a two hour trip to Gruta das Torres the next day, and Joana and Raisa got right on it setting up the tour and our transport with David through Tripix to the caves. She allowed us to pay for both tours on the second day after they were both completed without fuss or hesitation. We already can t wait to come back to Pico to take more tours with Tripix, and could not more highly recommend this awesome (and environmentally conscious) company! Thanks Raisa!!!

It s true, you don t necessarily need a guide to climb Mount Pico. But here are three reasons you should book a tour with Raisa and Matteo from Tripix: Firstly, you don t have to wait for hours until you are allowed to climb up (number of people is restricted). Secondly, they have your back. If something goes south, they will be there. Thirdly, they are fun people and passionate about what they do. We would invest the money again. Thanks for the trip!

We did the daily climb to Pico with both Raisa and Matteo. The weather was not great at the beginning and I was having a hard time climbing up the mountain with lots of wind and fog. Matteo was amazing, he stayed with me all the way, helping me with the best trails and with great tips. We managed to get to the top and the feeling is absolutely amazing! All the hard time climbing up was definitely worth it and the weather was great on top! On the way down Matteo was with a smaller part of the group doing the walk at a slower pace and was great and very patient.
I would definitely recommend Tripix to everyone who wants to climb up to the Pico mountain. They are very professional and you can truly see that it is a family business and that both of them are really passionate and knowledgeable about it! We really loved it!

An amazing day, with the very friendly and motivational guidance of Raisa. The great thing about climbing Pico, besides the truly unique view from the top, is that it can be done by anyone in good condition. You don t need to be a trained athlete. Good shoes, lots of water and food, good motivation are enough to get you there. And for sure, no fear of height, because it s a steep climb and the path is very rough. In our group we had a couple of rather unsure/slower persons, we just adapted the pace of the group accordingly and everyone made it to the top. There was a second, faster group in parallel for those who preferred a higher pace.

Had a great trip today! The guide was friendly, kind and knew her plant species well. She educated me a lot about the volcanoes and everything else to know about Pico. The planning of the tour was flexible, meaning that we went where the weather was good. After lunch, she even took me to one of the wine factories for some wine tasting, because it was just around the corner & the weather wasn't that great yet. By the end of the day I got what I came for: 1. visiting lava caves (especially the one where she guided us was astonishing), 2. visiting lagoons and a bonus of the wine tour/tasting. I would recommend this tour to others!

My boyfriend and I relied on tripix to climb the Pico. Among the many activities that we offer, we have chosen to do the overnight climb which consists of climbing the Pico over night in a tent and returning the next day after seeing the sunrise. Despite the effort, dictated both by the weight of the backpacks and by the altitude difference and the fact that the route is a bit bumpy, we really enjoyed the experience! Matteo (our guide) was VERY GOOD. Even I, who usually don't go to the mountains and have no experience, thanks to him I managed to get to the top and enjoy the splendid view that only the top of the pico can offer. Sleeping on the crater was spectacular! I recommend to everyone!
