Worth a stop. My five year old had a blast running in and out of the old subway cars, pretending to drive the busses. The line looks long but moves fast and it's a great attraction that's indoors.

Cool place. Got to see the old train cars, all the old turnstiles, and there was also some stuff about 9/11, hurricane Sandy, and the 2003 blackout. Also it's cool that its in an old subway station. I only had to pay 5 dollars for my ticket (17).

Cool place to see construction methods and old cars. The radio in the control tower wasn't on when I was there, which is a bummer. Wish there was more info on the control tower and infrastructure controls, otherwise great.

This museum was built inside a real subway station. There are a lot of presentations to show how the subway system was built at the beginning. There are also some subway posters from different cities. On the platform level, there are different kinds of subway carts along the history. There's no food vendor inside the museum, but you can bring your own food to the dining area.

Great museum for New Yorkers that want to experience these nostalgia trains from the 1900s. The oldest train found is an BRT car built in 1904, and then goes on and on. All nostalgia fleets and the platform itself are very clean, shiny, and, especially inside of these cars. Staffs are very nice in this area. These tracks in this museum actually leads to the A line (at Hoyt-Schermerhorn.) This place served as a station from 1936 to 46, closed until 1976 to be reopened as a transit museum. It was exciting to learn and noticed the differences of these subways displayed, their appearance and the way they were built, as the years steadily progress during the early and mid 1900s. It's best to visit during Tuesdays-Saturdays, since Sundays can be crowded sometimes. Recommend anyone for subway and historian lovers to visit here! It's worth paying there to experience and view.

Staff was all friendly, exhibits are sufficiently informative for transit nerds, but there's also enough color and interactive options to keep kids pretty well entertained for a bit. Had a blast with my nephew. The entrance is a retired subway stop, so don't walk right by it three times like I did. Really adds to the atmosphere to be taken underground for the duration. There's a clean and sizeable 'lunchroom' area in back which is appreciated, but no food available for purchase. Would be nice to see even a couple of vending machines or something.

It won't occupy your whole day like a trip to some of the larger NYC museums, but it's a great way to spend a few hours if you're nearby.

I have an ASTC membership, and I visited this museum with my 2 year old thinking my admission is covered under the ASTC membership, as stated on their list; it's not. Since I'd traveled far enough with my 2 year old to get there, I ended up paying for admission, which I didn't think was worth, overall, it for a toddler. FYI - ASTC membership can be used every 3rd weekend of the month!

It's a cool museum that gives you so much insight on the history of trains, token booths and turnstiles. Children will love and get so excited especially when they see the different variations of trains.

I had a really good time there. The price is reasonable and I think the museum itself offers way more than 10 dollars. Especially if you are a subway fan. (Maybe for tourists subway fan, my friend just told me there's no such a thing called "subway fan " here in NYC. )

It has two floors underground and they display many old train cars and prototypes.

They also thoroughly show the history of NYC MTA transit system. For instance, I didn't know that people used to use tokens instead of metro cards to enter the subway.

And of course you can take a lot of pictures and selfies in this museum.

Small, neat, enjoyable, and pretty unique. The collection of artifacts detailing the history of NY Transit is great, this is a fantastic place to visit, especially with kids. But any adult interested in engineering and technology would enjoy this as well

A treasure trove.

A treasure trove.

This museum should be mandatory for all New Yorkers to visit at least once. From the old turnstiles you get to walk through to the new r211 concept art this museum encapsulates every ounce of transit history of this city. As a jaded New Yorker and rail-fan I still wanted to go, but more for completion's sake because I arrogantly thought I knew all there was to know - but I was wrong. Perhaps the most clever and interesting part about this museum is that it's made from an actual subway station that was decommissioned just to serve as a time capsule. The first level underground has what used to be the promenade over the island platform. The second level below is that island platform and the still operational tracks. They're electrified because the MTA stores the special old-time rolling stock stored here for most of the year. The ticket is $10 and worth every penny. You'll learn a ton and your kids will have a blast pretending to drive the buses.

Nightlife at the Academy of Sciences was a great way to catch up with old friends that I met studying abroad a few years ago. I recently moved to the area, but the California Academy of Sciences' nightlife on Thursday nights seems like a hoppin destination in Golden Gate park for science and alcohol lovers to meet up for some fun. Most of the crowd seemed to be in their 20's and 30's, with a $15 entrance fee. I recommend buying your tickets online and also checking out the Planetarium show, which was definitely unique and rotates in variety. I had two manhattans for $12 which were pretty average, but you are walking through looking at animals and exhibits, so I wasn't too picky. Overall I would recommend it as a fun thing to do on a Thursday night, especially for a date.

I love going to museums but this completely blows the rest out of the water. They have so many historical artifacts of the NYC Transit system, plenty of interactive things to play with, and the best part is all the different trains you can go on in the old subway platform underneath.

I was happy to find this museum (thanks to Google maps), set up in what used to be part of a subway station in Brooklyn. With what seem to be 5 billion daily users, you might think that interest in the system would be low. But there was a good crowd here, including kids, toward whom a lot of the interactive exhibits are aimed. But I'm no kid, and I learned a lot about the history of the subway system. I live in LA, a city that has only 1 subway line, a growing light rail system and oodles of cars, so it's nice to imagine what could have been at home. Take yourself, take the kids, and enjoy!

If you have kids, make sure to check this place out. It's not the biggest museum, but it has an amazing collection of vintage subway trains. My favorite thing is not the trains (although they are amazing) it is the vintage advertisements that are on the trains. It feels like an episode of Mad Men.

Awesome! 25+ old train cars you can board on an actual platform. Cool photos and artifacts. Great for kids! And wayyyyyyyyy better than the dreadful Children s Museum. Easy to get to from Manhattan via the Subway.

The Transit Musuem has to be one of the best values in the city. If you haven't been there before, it's easy to imagine that its small or limited in content, but once inside it really opens up. The typical museum exhibits are great, but seeing the historic subway/cable cars is a must. Worth well over the proce of admission ($10). If you're interested in history or just museums in general, the New York Transit Museum should be on the top of your list.

Definitely one of the cooler museums I've ever seen. A subway museum inside an actual subway station. The museum itself is a little bit short, but fascinating nonetheless. They could benefit from a slightly more prominent entrance sign, a few more interactive elements, and wifi (since there's no cell service underground).

My boyfriend and I went to the transit museum (November 30th,2019) to learn more about the history and to take a few pictures for memories. I was approached by an aggressive woman who was questioning me as to why we were taking pictures. I simply told her that we are were taking pictures for pleasure. We continued to move on to other trains to read up on the history alongside taking pictures, another rude woman approached us and once again I explained I was from out of town but she still seemed to have a problem with us taking some pictures. ( I had a camera, no special equipment) We were turned off by both women and decided to leave. I was quite disappointed with this experience and almost likely will not make another visit.
