Great place to spend some time and learn about the history of the modern day Subway in New York City. This museum takes you through the journey of digging the tunnels, blasting rock, laying tracks, running electrical cables and signal systems to the very Subway cars themselves each preserved beautifully from the early 1900s BRT wooden cars to the R-44s used on the A line through the 2000's. This is a comprehensive chronicling of the NYC Subway. Interactive displays are excellent as well and help build a better understanding of the workings behind buses and trains. This is a must experience place!

Not for everyone but if you have any interest in NYC transit, this place is a must see. Housed in an actual former transit station, it has a great collection of transit cars going back more than 100 years plus tons of other memorabilia. Good for kids and best of all, it's free!

A great place to visit if you are interested in NYC subway and public transportation. It carries so much information. The museum itself is s subway station making it a fascinating experience. A collection of subway cars from old to new can be found here. It s not crowded. My 10 year old train fanatic had a really good time.

A nice place to spend an hour or two. They have a nice collection of subway cars you can walk through, and lots of stuff to read: history, maps, etc. Not the most exciting museum I've been to, but no complaints.

I am glad we made it to the museum. It was great way to learn about the history of the New York transit system. Having the museum is an old station gives it a nice atmosphere. I like subway systems, I would have likes to learn a bit more about how express and regular services are arranged, how the 4 track sections are used where are th yards, etc. But I understand that is not in interest of the general public. The preserved signal box is also a nice touch.

i'm a big fan when it comes to history. I am just at awe when it comes to the NYC Transit subway system. One of the oldest city in America with one of the oldest subway lines. What better place to visit then the Transit Museum. You definitely feel like a little kid when entering, the museum is actually set on a old transit terminal. They have actual old vintage subway cars as far back as 1907. It gives you rich history of how the transit system started. Simply amazed at the photos exhibit of how it all started and the tools they used back then. Ticket price is affordable. It can get a bit hectic with kids during their field trips . I will come back again.

This is such a great museum!!! Nice exhibit with lots of information, but you have to go to the lower platform and see all of the old subway cars- WOW!! It was a step back in time- old ads, old seating and ceiling fans in a few of them. Visited the museum 3 years ago and last year we got to ride one of the subway cars- they take certain cars out of the museum and they run along with the current subways. To our surprise one day, an old car pulls up and we hop in- didn't know or care where it was going- we had to ride it!!! What a great experience- recommend this museum to everyone- you have to see all of the advancements made in NY subways.

As a transit enthusiast this museum was spectacular and dazzling. It s located in an old subway station and boasts numerous maps, artifacts, signs, and other exhibits. There s a set of tracks on a real train platform that has full size subway cars from different eras that you can walk inside and sit. The advertisements in the subway cars also match the era they are from. Extensive details about how the subway was constructed and how it evolved over time.

If you are interested in history, transit, or both you'll enjoy this museum. It was $10 for entry and is open for exploration. The entrance looks like a subway stop but is clearly marked. There are several exhibits with clearly marked placards and historical items. There is also a great area for children to play. They have trains from several areas on display which provide a hands on view of how designs have changed over the years. If you are looking for any souvenirs they have a small store with trains, books, maps, clothing, and more.

Fun place for kids and adults. In an old train station. The best part is the old train wagons on the track downstairs. Like walking trough history. Beware there is a cafeteria where you can sit to eat your own food but absolutely no food or drinks sold. Not even a vending machine.

Great idea to turn an old unused subway station into a museum. Admission is $ 10 and it is really worth the experience. The museum has two underground floors and in the second (where there was a former stop) are exposed metro cars, which you can walk, sit and soak up the atmosphere of that time. I recommend visiting the museum.

This is a transit enthusiasts dream. They have very old, old and not so old trains that ran on the New York City transit system in years past. You can walk through the cars but you cannot go into the motormans cab or ring the trains horn (that would be an added feature NYC transit!). Its worth the money and its great for taking some pretty neat and interesting photos.

This is a toddler's heaven on a rainy day! The history of the subway (and how it works) is all there but what 3 year old cares about that?
This place has all the trains and busses to drive/ride that a toddler could ever dream of. Family membership definitely worth every penny!

You wouldn't think a transit museum would be as interesting as this one was. It's in a out of service subway stop, so right there it's kinda cool.
The main feature are the subway cars from the hundred plus year history of the subway system in New York City. As neat a place as some of the bigger ticket sites in the city.

Adult admission is $10. Worth every penny. Good for kids but you have to carry the stroller up and down the stairs. Entrance to the museum is a subway station so there are stairs. 1st floor down is the museum/ history. 2nd level down are the trains.

If you or your child has an interest in trains this museum is an awesome experience. Perfect balance of interaction and information. The old advertisements on the train cars are hilarious. You could easily spend a couple of hours here and maybe need another day more! It takes you through the entire history of New York transit which turns out to be a very interesting story filled with - technical innovations, construction, political corruption, and underneath everything an extremely dedicated group of workers. It is located in an old subway station, I love the entrance being an old subway and the old cars make you wonder why we stopped making those kind! I highly recommend it -- do not miss the downstairs part with all of the old subway cars! This is a great museum for anybody, kids in particular seem to love the exhibits. Definitely worth it!

A very nice museum that describes the subway in New York, the form of construction and development of the entire system and the cars in particular. It is very suitable for children, but adults will also pass here an hour and a little fun.

What a fun museum!!! As a native New Yorker, I absolutely LOVED seeing the trains my parents spoke about during my childhood and learning about the NYC subway system development. The vintage subway advertisements make each train car seem like a time capsule. This is an awesome museum for all ages!

I really enjoyed my visit to the Transit Museum which is in Brooklyn in an old subway station. The history of the construction is fascinating and, interestingly in these troubling times, really emphasises that America was built by slaves and immigrants. Seeing the old style subway cars with their period adverts is a great way to chart design through the ages. Well worth the $10 entry.
