I wish I had more time here but I chaperoned my kiddos trip here once. The issue was the bus arrived so late that we only had about 30 mins to enjoy the exhibits. There were lots of old train cars and ads... hopefully we'll make our way back there sooner than later...

This is hands down the best museum that you can see in Brooklyn! It s $10/person, which is an amazing value for all the cool things you get to see. The museum is deceivingly large. You ll start with the history of the subway (how it was built, mechanisms, and the groups of people and their roles). Then you ll go into a larger room that goes into the history and evolution of the tracks and routes of the subway. In my opinion, the best is downstairs! You ll see lots of real life examples of the subway cars with little blurbs about their history and period of use.

It was part of a trip for the Girl Scout. They loved it, especially the old trains. It's small, but very detailed. The pictures and descriptions made a nice timeline for the development of trains. They even had a little show about the first underground train invented that was so cute. They included some of the kids from the audience and the kids made it funny. So cute for the young ones.

A fantastic museum for all ages and interests. If you're interested in history, transportation, American politics, or just trains and automobiles, you'll enjoy a visit here.

The trains in the basement/lower level are a blast to the past, with interesting exhibits, classic advertisements, and interactive exhibits.

$10 tickets are a great rate to support this museum. The entrance is like a subway entrance, so keep your eyes peeled.

I didnt actually get inside in this museum but i gave it 2 stars because i was 14 years and they said i needed to be 15 years old and i couldn't get in. That already got me mad. I should have just saved time and money or even better go somewhere else. However i will go in with my older sister. Il update this review when i go inside but for now im not satisfied.

Very nice museum if you like the subway. You get to try out different turnstiles from different periods, see how the subway was constructed, and more. The best part is downstairs on the tracks are models of all the subway cars which you can go into, sit inside, check out the vintage ads etc. Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the cars are missing the iconic graffiti that plagued the subway back in the day. If I remember correctly, they said it's China's fault because the cars for the museum were ordered from them and the Chinese thought they want perfectly clean cars for the museum!

How unfortunate that we are still stuck in the early 20th century of mass transit, while other countries' infrastructure develop and progress to match today's technology and time. Regardless, the museum was fascinating... and the entrance looks like the entrance to a subway station!

Really enjoyed my visit to the museum! It s not huge, but the exhibits where interesting and there are a lot more subway cars in the museum than I was expecting. Not an all day place - I spent about 3 hours or so at the museum. Well worth the $10 admission! Would be great for kids too!

Fantastic! Great place to visit especially if you are a transit buff, nicely presented, informative, interactive, can't say enough great things about this place! Entrance is actually an abandoned subway station and the museum has done a remarkable job preserving the authenticity, thoroughly enjoyed my visit and would highly recommend.

One of the best museums in the NYC. There s so much info on the history of transit and how the system works, plus the buses, signs and the gift shop. The highlight of this place is definitely the trains on the platform down below. You ll be spending a long time exploring the trains. Great museum for any transit enthusiast to visit.

If you are a bit interested in the history of the subway in New York, you should definitely have been here. Really very nice and descriptive explained in an old subway station. Even the different types of cars are walkable. The entrance is however a bit hidden on the roadside and is a subway entrance, so do not look for a building.

Awesome! This place was so cool. Very memorable and very fascinating. As part of their exhibit, they have actual passenger cars from each decade in the history of the NYC transit system that you can walk inside them! It is a must-see for those who are interested in history and public transit, but make sure you set aside at least 2 hours to see this place! My one regret is that I didn't have enough time to spend here.

My girls loved the experience. They have nice clean displays, old trains, old buses. The staff was also really friendly and knowledge. I would expand the store a bit so it's easier to browse and I would open a cafe that sells NYC themed dishes!

Great way to spend a few hours of your time learning about this particular niche of NYC history. It's entirely underground, built in an old subway station. Lots of details about early transit systems and the construction of the subways. They have historic cars on the lower level that you can walk through. Also, a good amount of contemporary information on 9/11 and Hurricane Sandy.

Very interesting and I write this as absolutely uninterested in the matter of the subway! I accompanied a friend and was able to enjoy very interesting insights into the construction of the New York subway and the various decades of it. The museum is not huge but an absolute recommendation.

Its one of the nicest museums I've been to, for a small museum it really packs alot of history into it. From subway cars that are over 140 years old to model trolly cars on display. Nice way to take your little ones and enjoy the day.

This place is definitely worth it for $10, split over two floors the lower level has about 15 subway carriages from the last 100 years so you can see the evolution of the subway. The upper floor is dedicated to the building of the subway and the maps and comics which have featured the MTA over the years.

Tour time is about 2 hours if you read everything. This would have been a 5 but all of the interaction exhibits are broken.

Nice museum in a real subway station. The story is told from the beginning until today. There are numerous subway cars from different periods that can also be entered. I'm not a big underground / railroad fan, but I really liked it. A great thing for children too.

It seems like it would be lame, but there's lots of great stuff down there. MTA does a lot and played a bigger role in NY than I ever expected. If you are in the area this is definitely a spot to check out, the gift shop has pretty cool stuff as well. Staff also MTA workers are very passionate about what they do and friendly. It is down a subway entrance so it is easy to pass up.

I visited here April 2011. Although in most the guide books I've never been told to visit this place. For a $6 entry fee I think it's a hidden gem out in Brooklyn. The best part about this is the old subways station that hold all the old subway trains. Really feels like a step back in time with all original features and adverts.

Saying that it's not the easiest to find but a short trip over the bridge on the subway and a nice walk around Brookly is well worth the trip outside Manhattan.

An extremely cool museum to go visit if you have any interest in trains, or new york city in general. There was entire exhibits dedicated to how new york responded/ reacted to major events such as Hurricane Sandy and 9/11. The bottom floor is also filled with many different trains that you can go into and explore, from the 1930s to modern day.
