i'm a big fan when it comes to history. I am just at awe when it comes to the NYC Transit subway system. One of the oldest city in America with one of the oldest subway lines. What better place to visit then the Transit Museum. You definitely feel like a little kid when entering, the museum is actually set on a old transit terminal. They have actual old vintage subway cars as far back as 1907. It gives you rich history of how the transit system started. Simply amazed at the photos exhibit of how it all started and the tools they used back then. Ticket price is affordable. It can get a bit hectic with kids during their field trips . I will come back again.

Great chance to see how the subway system developed over time. The brief exploration is made in a subway station. With most of the exhibits located there. Seeing the old trains and Turnstile is great.

Not bad. Good on a rainy day. The downstairs collection of old trains is the best part, including trains that are near 100 years old with adverts intact. The rest of the exhibit about how they built the subway is interesting, too.

No strollers allowed in the gift shop. Lame!

A very interesting place to visit. Lots of history about New York City's public transportation with the relics to accompany the descriptions! But I guess the highlight of this place is that this was a former subway station and it has parked all the cars from every generation. They even have the ads from those times. It really feels like you went back through time! A definite must visit after the major museums. Tip: it's free for nyc students!

Visiting this museum can really help you to appreciate the hard work that was put into developing the New York City Transit system. It was really fun seeing some of the turnstiles from before I was born and some of the train cars that were around when I was a child.

Like stepping back in time. This museum is absolutely awesome! The turnstile and construction history is fascinating. My favorite part was just exploring the old subway cars complete with ads from the era. The staff are very knowledgeable, passionate, and helpful. This place is a must visit!

Fun spot for kids or train enthusiasts. The downstairs area has old trains to look at (complete with old advertisments). The upstairs part has information on the subway being built, samples of turnstiles and pretend buses the kids love driving. It wasn't too busy at opening but in about an hour was overrun with camp groups. No food for sale but a cafeteria area to enjoy your own snacks in. Not wheelchair accessible. The signage didn't have much in the way of "kid friendly" information (which I did overhear a museum guide sharing with a camp tour group).

The hidden gem of Brooklyn! Easy train ride over from Manhattan. Had lots of great displays from building the subways, buses, streetcars, LIRR, etc. the coolest part is in the lower level, where they have the progression of the subway cars where you walk through them in a real station. It is definitely worth the price of admission! Highly recommend to everyone, especially train and transit fans.

Super fascinating and underrated museum!!! If you're a transit nerd like me this place is an invaluable wealth of knowledge about the history and development of the largest transit network in the country. So much to learn about from historic maps, token displays, comics, construction designs, and all highlighted by the historic railcars you can enter on the lower level. And for only $10? Make it a priority to stop by!

Great place to learn about the history of New York City. NYC's public transit system was revolutionary, and the history of its development is integral to the history of the city itself. Don't miss the era-specific advertising on the historic subway cars.

Really cool place. It was great to see all of the old train cars, the history of the subway route, and how the city of New York handled growth overtime. Looking at the old ads was fun in and of itself. A really cool place for all ages. It took about an hour (maybe an hour and a half) to visit and we took our time. A neat place.

Took my son and he loved it. The old trains was fun for me, less so for him. They have two fake buses you can drive. There were lines at both as kids really love them. My son was disappointed with what they offered as "driving a train". I understand the trains are all wired up but seeing inside a conductors booth in the train would have been a good addition for both my son and I.

Overall good place for kids. I think I when we go back, I would try to get in at 11:30am to hit a lunch lull.

I took a transit-obsessed friend here who was visiting from out of town. I did not expect to enjoy myself as much as I did. This place is amazing! It does a great job of telling the fascinating story of how the NY transit system was built. Built inside an actual decommissioned subway stop, there's way more here than you could see in a day-- the highlight was all the antique cars that are open to wander through on the station's actual tracks. The cars are restored down with an incredible eye for detail, down to the advertisements on the train. They're really amazing time capsules from earlier versions of New York. It sounds like they do some cool arts programming in the museum as well-- I would happily go back here and see some more!

The New York Transit Museum was nice. A lot of historical things that related to the workers and the trains. This transit museum is about the beginning of New York City's transit system. The men worked hard to make one of America's city transit one of the best and greatest transportation system. Go and give it look. You might be interested in what you learn about NYC Transit's past. Great for tourists to check out and great for families all across America to come see. My dad and I enjoyed it.

Great and fun museum for all ages, with easy access from the metro. If you have any interest in trains in general and the subway, you should go. It has historic facts from the time the subway was being built and some fun activities for the children. Plus, the ticket is not expensive at all, making it affordable since it's not included in the attractions bundles.

It's actually an abandoned subway station connected to the A line. They have a gift shop, old turnstiles, maps, buses, subway trains, exhibits related to the entire New York transportation system, and a nice staff. The fan trips are a bit high priced, but if you're a train or bus buff, check it out. The old trains are worth the visit. You can walk through them and even sit. Great indoor excursion for a rainy day.

A small museum full well which presents in its first part the heroic times of the construction or one digs with the shovel, the pick and the dynamite. And where one also realizes that this Subway symbol of a triumphant America was built on the back of immigrant communities, Irish, Italian, Indian, etc. This same America owes its wealth to the melting pot that today builds walls to protect itself.
The second part a little more fun will be better for children. Not to be missed, the old metro trains exposed to the basement dock of an abandoned station.
A little thought for the immigrant workers who died in accidents on the site, which Wall Street traders who return to their Brooklyn lofts after work do not often think.

Our 4 yr old loves maps, trains and buses this place was a great small museum for her to experience the history of the NY Transit system visually! The only thing that we wish they would do was display or provide guest with a floor plan of the museum and add more kid friendly activities. We didn't realize it had a cafeteria section to sit and eat a snack while visiting until after! I have visited this place as a child several times on school field trips yrs ago and now it seems to lack activities for kids ...so disappointing!

A little gem of a museum hidden around downtown Br...

A little gem of a museum hidden around downtown Brooklyn. They only detail the history of the transit system in NYC that s all they do and they do it well. From the start, you enter by heading down a pair of stairs to an unused transit station (I believe there s also a wheelchair accessible entrance, but fair warning, the MTA follows grandfather laws about accessibility) and you re greeted with a clean, renovated, but distinctly NYC MTA museum. I ve always been fortunate enough to have access to museums without cost, but the prices here are fair for the content. Going into the station, they begin documenting the efforts of the hundreds upon thousands who suffered to help build the foundation of this transit system. Despite our complaints, our gripes about its current condition, you cannot deny the feat of engineering conducted to create the bases. They show you almost everything it took to make it and have some hands on showcases to give you a physical feel of their descriptions.

Beyond that, you enter the main lobby of the station and almost every single part of the trains are dissected. Unused turnstiles of history, the effects of various storms, the proposal for the second avenue subway line, and more all sit in the first floor of the lobby. Amazing curation. Everything is easy to follow, overflowing with facts (slightly biased to highlight the good rather than bad of the system), and paired with pictures, videos and items to accentuate the display.

My personal favorite is the main floor. On the two subway tracks that used to serve the used station are subway carts of various different eras, all cleaned, filled with ads that cater to the periods that the trains came from and wow is it beautiful. You can sit on the seats, watch the change of the designs, and read about the short history of the carts. It s fun for almost all ages to just run around the carts, sitting down in those carts preserved in this time chamber and visit the past.

The two times I went here, I enjoyed myself more than I expected. Props to the curator and the staff.

I love taking my students here for field trips. They love the old trains and buses. The guide Roberto that we had was great! You could tell that he was trained to work with students with disabilities because he was very patient, had many visuals and understood the needs of my students.

I would even like to go back here without my students because the history of the transit system is fascinating and you can really learn a lot.
