Very nice museum on the history of the New York subway. It sits in an old disused subway station in Brooklyn. The price is affordable and it is very fun for children and very well explained, you also have the chance to go to an old platform and get on old wagons. I recommend it to everyone it's worth the detour

This was a great find. Very interesting photos and information about the construction of the New York subway and the conditions for the workers. The museum itself is in an old subway station. Great exhibit on subway and city maps over the years. Don't miss it, downstairs is a collection of old trains throughout the years, and even more interesting the subway ads of the times. And an excellent gift shop for unique souvenirs. Reasonably priced.

So much fun learning about the history of the NYC Transit - the best part by far was getting to walk through the old subway cars! So fascinating!! Oh and make sure to read the advertisements in the old subway cars

Five stars if you're a train fan or a parent with young kids. For the kids there are hands on displays (be the bus driver, drive a train simulator- when available) and activities. The best part is the lower platform with restored subway cars through the ages.

Very cool place!

Very cool place!

A story you can touch.
A lot of interesting things from an engineering point of view.

There are children's entertainment and educational activities.
A subway-style toilet (much cleaner and better than real subway toilets) and a drinker.

Price - $ 10 per adult, counting hours at 2 minimum.

Great museum for all ages. However, I went for toddler Time age 2-5 and the website shows activities that wasn't done. What was done was reading 3 books, singing one song, and getting an old metro card to see how it is to go through turnstile. No real socialization as they show on their website. Very disappointed I could have went to the public library for story time. However the girls enjoy the rest of the museum, because they got to play bus driver and see all the old trains. We will turn another day when they're older for the rest of the museum again. Great place for NYCTA History.

Loved it! We enjoyed the experience of a subway station museum, filled with examples of subway cars back to the first. Great story boards to follow the " when and how's". Set time aside to visit, whether a New Yorker or a visitor from another place.

STROLLERS BEWARE!

STROLLERS BEWARE!
The struggle to get my double stroller and two babies down two flights of stairs was real!!! That alone just put me in a bad mood.

Not as interesting as we would like. No review of the driver's cab. There are no descriptions of automation and metro control. The main thing: there is no way to see the tunnel from the inside.

Self guided tour to go at your own speed. It's in an actual subway station, so it's not air conditioned. I spent about 2 hours reading material and found the disaster relief for transit very interesting. Worth the $10!

The best interactive experience for toddlers and kids, not some boring museum. They learn while playing, try themselves as bus driver, conductor or machinist. And adults imagine change of the epoch while sitting on the seats of subway train of 1938' and then enjoying scilly advertising at 1980' wagon)) for sure, you wouldn't find the better place to make a vintage photo shoot!

Great collection of subway cars + an exhibition of the history and construction back to the early days of the NYC Subway and other predecessors. Located in an old out of use subway station.

This is a special place for those who have nostalgia and want a nice dose of train, subway, NYC history. This museum is located in an old and decommissioned station on Brooklyn Heights. They have everything that you can imagine related to the NY subway system. Downstairs in the old platform they have an array of old subway cars. The cars are all from different eras and have been taken out of service. It is amazing to see how people got around town in the past. Some of the cars have rattan and wicker seats. Some have fans hanging from the ceiling. I just can't believe people went to work wearing a full suit, with a starched shirt and a hat during the dog days of summer packed in these old trains. It's fun to look at the old advertising and take a hold of a real strap hang. You can seat down and put yourself in the eras. They also have old token booths and turnstiles. You can go at your own pace and have a great time exploring the past.

For a train geek, it is heaven but even if you are not, a trip to the NYTM is like a trip back in time. You get to experience classic subway cars in an actual subway station exactly as they were when they were in service. The classic advertisements alone are worth the price of admission. As much as the subway is a part of every New Yorker's life, few truly know it's amazing history. NYTM does a great job of bringing that past to life.

This place was great. It was fascinating to see how the NY Subway system was built. Incredibly well though out and clever given the era in which this was done. Would totally recommend.

Interesting museum where discover how the metro has been built and extended Manhattan. It's possible to visit all the various wagons of the history of the metro line. I'd have expected a visit into the tunnels...but no way..

Loved this museum! We learned so much about the history of the MTA which is quite impressive. The whole museum is interactive and there are lots of trains and buses for kids to explore. We are on a rainy cold day in January and it wasn't packed at all.

A little out of the way but worth the effort to go. You will need a map to find it (Google maps ok). It's not easy to find from the nearest subway station without one. When you get there it is hard to spot as it's entrance is an old subway entrance. Just steps down.
Inside is a good display of how the subway was built and historical displays of maps and other items.
Of course the best part is the old carriages down a further level in an old subway station. Examples of all the old rolling stock.
Only disappointment was the merchandise in the shop. I was after some replica old maps but none there.
All in all very good value.

Subways and trolleys are an fundamental piece of NYC s history. You ll discover many of these artifacts in the New York Transit Museum. Here, you ll find a fascinating collection of subway cars dating back to 1916! Also, find wooden elevated train cars that go back to the late 1800s! The trolleys are decorated with captivating old ads, much the same as when these vehicles were still connecting the city! Amazing place to visit!

Better than I expected, with vintage cars, docents explaining the mechanics and great stories from the building of the subway. Worth 2-3 hours to see it all at a leisurely pace, although young children will probably max out in 1.5 hours. Fun for mechanically minded and history huffs too.

A good place to take your kids on a cold or rainy day. Lots of space and the tours (we caught a tiny bit of one) are very informative and interesting. It's fun to be able to walk through all the old trains and turnstiles (some from my childhood). We will definitely be back!
