It's like an art museum, but you can talk to most of the artists, and there's no curator picking what you should like. Every time I go I end up loving something, and often end up buying something cheap.

This is a must see for anyone who likes art of any kind. Free admission and cheap prices for art you will treasure forever. Lots of nearby restaurants and bars so parking is almost impossible during the weekend.

Wonderful place to wander through and enjoy all sorts of art - paintings, pottery, jewelry, fabric, etc. Three levels of studios. Artists set their own hours so some studios may not be open when you go. Almost all items for sale, and classes are offered through the Art League. The pic is from the back side near the water.

Parking and traffic can be a pain. The worst part was that there was some DJ out on the waterfront playing HORRENDOUS "music" at a deafening volume. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Don't plan to go back.

I am really glad we have a place like this outside of DC to enjoy local art/artists. It's especially interesting to meet the contributors as you visit and view the exhibits from their actual studio spaces. Bring your pocket book- purchasing the art is very pricey - probably too pricey for the average person (me)- but fun to look at nonetheless. It's equally nice that it's right on the Alexandria/Potomac waterfront. Enjoy an ice cream, street performers and water views after your Torpedo Factory tour. You can even buy tickets for a water taxi tour. Immediately surrounding restaurants, i.e. The Chart House are on the upscale side, but you can also grab casual bites all up and down the surrounding blocks and enjoy specialty shops and a walking/biking trail depending what you are up for. Prepare to walk a little if you drive over- parking is usually tough on the weekends.

Three floors of art studios, with painting, ceramics, textiles, sculpture, photography...you name it, you'll probably find it. At any given time, you'll be able to tour most of the studios, buy art, and talk to the artist. We like to go to Alexandria several times a year, and we always stop by the Torpedo Factory (named because it used to be a real factory making torpedoes...). There are plenty of restaurants nearby if you want to make a day of it. Oh, and there is a gift shop with art-related items, including puzzles and whatnot.

Really dynamic array of talented artists. Lots of variety. Really enjoyed that these were also artists' studios as it brings another level of depth to the at when you chat with the artist and learn about the technique or motivation our vision.

Great collective of local artisans creating & selling their wares. Pottery, art, jewelry, shawls & more. About half of them were closed when we were there (11am weekday) but of the ones we visited, we enjoyed & would go back.

Wonderful! Showed up on a Sunday when they had their annual student and instructor art show. Everyone was so kind and accommodating. I learned a lot about the courses I was planning to take from the instructors who would actually be teaching me!

See tons of local artists in one spot and be prepared to spend money because the art is so outstanding that you will feel compelled to pick something up while visiting. Think of 30 artists and all their studios on three levels of an old torpedo factory and that's this location. It's awesome and as an artist I love to visit and see what the art world is up to in Alexandria. Summer hours after 11AM and before 5PM are the best times to visit. Make sure they are open before making the trip! Check their website for open dates or call ahead.

I love all the artists that come here. Sometimes you can even get a live show. . . Water glasses, calypso band, brass music, art demos and more! You can sometimes see JW carts there too! There's also a variety of food around, and the location is right by the water. . . Makes sense, right? After all, it used to be a torpedo factory!

Extensive art gallery with lots of variety right on the water in Alexandria. It's worth about an hour of your time if you're enjoying the sights by the dock. And if you like anything you see, you can walk out with it!

Spotted this while walking along the riverfront. A 3 level open art building. Artists have their door open for many hours a week, but if closed you can still peer through easily. Artist were a mix of friendly and to themselves. Many items were quite expensive. Still a good experience.
