The food was alright, but definitely not the best in Chapel Hill. When you visit Top Of The Hill, you really are just going because you want to eat at a CH landmark. I have been twice, and each time the service was very poor. Servers slam food down at your table, force you to ask for a refill, and never smile. This establishment really needs to improve their customer service.

This might be the place to be in Chapel Hill. The food is good, the beers and great and the view is excellent. I have watched Franklin street turn into a parade from the 3rd floor balcony here. A Chapel Hill Classic.

Location - Prime location on Franklin Street with lots of nearby restaurants, and bars.

Venue - Large restaurant/bar with tons of seating inside and out, great views from the patio, and really cool glass display of the brewing tanks.

Service - Servers did a great job keeping on top of orders, very friendly with my daughter and all around great service.

Food - Great portions and very good taste on the food here.

Prices - Avg. Pricing not overpriced for other places like this.

Parking - Parking around here can be a pain but they do have a couple parking lots nearby.

Overall great experience and would be back.

Great food, great service, and even better in-house whiskey. They make a "whiskey bee" with the 8year aged in-house distilled whiskey and they are excellent. Similar to a whiskey sour with a great honey after bite.

Top of the Hill is an iconic Chapel Hill restaurant and bar. It is THE spot to eat if you're only visiting for a short time or if you're trying to impress your parents. Every time my mom visits I take her to TOPO. The food is decent and even more decent after a couple of drinks, the cocktails are UNC themed, and the patio has a view of Franklin Street with a major wow factor. Does the gimmick of being one floor off the ground get old to locals? Not really. Weekend nights here are disaster, expect to be in a crush of drunk human bodies, because everyone who's anyone wants some of those locally distilled spirits and beer brewed on site in large quantities. No one can avoid coming here every now and then--it's just the Chapel Hill way.

Probably me and my wife's favorite place on CH for a nice lunch or dinner. The food is always good, our favorite is probably the chips and dip as an appetizer or for lunch, and the whiskey and cocktails are great. Only food complaint i have is the jambalaya is not spicy, but it is still good. Easy to rack up a high bill though.

The day I went the waiter was awful. I think she was having a bad day, but it was still unacceptable. Waited an hour and a half for nachos. Everybody has bad days, but the manager should have stepped in. The waiter spilled drinks and did not follow the order in which people arrived to be serve. I was appauld and will never return. Very weird comsidering all the descent reviews.

I love the local craft beer selection at Top of the Hill. They have great seasonal selections and specials during the week to please every taste. They have great bar food and outdoor seating with a great view of Franklin Street and campus. Try their affordable sandwiches and appetizers.

Front of house was unclear which seating was reserved and which was open. Wait staff were inattentive: we had to ask order, ask for drinks, and ask for napkins. Beer was watery with a weak head. Burger was extremely fatty poor quality beef. Underwhelming.

Popped in last night for dinner with my whole family, were immediately seated, and greeted by our super friendly Italian waiter. Truly delicious entrees, apps, and terrific beer selection (brewed on site). Great spot to watch a game too.

I feel like this place is a bit overrated and overpriced for the quality of food. I feel like the hype of it has to do with its location over Franklin St and them offering the birthday cake shot for those turning 21. However, when it was cold they still had patio seating that was heated and enclosed for comfort.

Loved this beloved by the Chapel Hill community restaurant. It is so unfortunate that COVID pandemic resulted in its temporal closure for dining in. Cannot wait to be able to dine again in this wonderful in every aspect establishment. We miss TOPO so very much!

Everything a brewhouse should. I thought it audacious that they only served their own beers. But I loved tasting every one. The killed it. Plus, the food not only tasted great, it was very well presented.

Been to TOPO more times than I can count over the years and always had great service, food, and drink. Can't say that about a recent visit we had! Took some friends out to a UNC game 3 weeks ago along with their parents and their out of town nephew who loves UNC. We decided to take them to TOPO for dinner beforehand. Started with drinks, one of our guest ordered a flight of beers and ended up finding a finger nail in the beer with an apple. Waiter tried to tell us it was not a finger nail but a piece of apple and proceeded to argue about it. Then our food came out, the salads were all soggy and had way too much dressing on them and the food was sub par this evening along with the service. The waiter never offered to take the flight off our tab and we had to ask for him to do so. Several hours later during the game our friends nephew had to run out and began vomiting profusely after he had the lobster mac n cheese. What makes this whole thing worse is that I tried emailing TOPO to let them know of our experience and still have not heard back. Sad to say we will not be returning and I doubt any of our friends will either.

All four meals were excellent (wild mushroom grit cakes and shrimp, sirloin tip salad, Arizona chicken, and avocado and three cheese flatbread pizza). More than a typical brewpub. Both beers were excellent, especially the Winter Warmer seasonal. Can't wait to tour the TOPO distillery down the street.

Good food, drink, venue. You can get healthy (& tasty) food here, but the default is something with cheese and/or sauce (also tasty). Yummy, but if you're a conscientious eater, you may come away with faint regrets.

Great beer, great food, friendly staff. This is also a great place to watch college and professional sports games. The location is very close to the University of North Carolina. In addition, you can go out on the patio and see what s happening on Franklin Street. Highly recommend checking out Top of the Hill!

Wonderful wonderful staff! Fanastic ambiance! Indoor and semi- outdoor seating available. Gorgeous view of the town. Wide selection of beers on tap, and TOPO distilled whiskeys and gins. Signature drinks as also available, and are not made of cheap liquor and ice. Food is well priced for the portions and quality of food (which was amazing!).

The Blueberry Wheat at TOPO is like Chapel Hill's personal Pumpkin Spice Latte - it's only offered in the summer, so students are constantly disappointed to hear it's unavailable in the winter months. But it would hardly be defined as settling for an Old Well White, my favorite craft lager-esque beer in Chapel Hill, NC.

Everyone knows they have an incredible view of Chapel Hill and great craft beer, but here's one thing you might not know about:

The Klondike - the closest thing you'll get to an alcoholic glass of chocolate milk with a hint of mint. It's not on the menu, but the bartender will know what to do.

Nice selection of their own beer. I ordered off the brunch menu. Had a biscuit with smoked salmon and poached egg with capers and a wonderfully French like sauce over it. Both sides of the biscuit we're covered this way, and it was big enough for two people. I took home half of it and had it the next morning for breakfast. Really likeable staff.

All in all a very nice bar with a professional and knowledgeable staff. I really enjoyed what I tasted and liked how clean everything was. The views here are great. It would be fun to go back with a larger group of friends at some point.

Food is good, views are great, and the prices are very low for the quality and atmosphere. Only downside I see could be service when it gets busy. 100% recommend if you're visiting or passing theough.

Location is great ! Service is great! I just could not make out exactly what the menu was serving. Long story short professed vegetarian meal tasted like chicken added . I had management basically questioning why I thought my meal tasted like chicken. Awkward however, having worked in kitchens before , this could easily happen. I would say I came for the food ! But then there we were!

I had happy hour here with a coworker and had a great time. We visited on a Friday night without a reservation, and we were able to sit at the bar immediately. As many people know, finding seating easily for a restaurant with this level of prominence in the area is a rarity.

I ordered the beef brisket and an amaretto sour, both of which were great. There is great outdoor seating available as well, but those tables were full when we arrived. Also, understandably, we noticed a lot of students there - seemingly with their parents. I could tell it is a trendy place, and the crowd was very upbeat. It's definitely a place to be seen on a weekend night.

Overall, I had a great time and definitely plan to visit again soon.

Fantastic beer. "Best beer in the universe" in my considered lager-preferring opinion. Their Keenan lager is delicious. Food is OK, I like their lunch menu better than their dinner menu. But I have just returned from a visit there, and the aftertaste of the lager is with me as I type. It's like eating a fine custom made chocolate, something to savor long after the last crumb/sip has been taken.

Great place to come for a bite, and in particular to enjoy the different beers coming from their own micro-brewery. In particular nice to order a flight of e.g. 6 small glasses of different beers that they produce, to get a good impression of all the flavors which are available. Attractive location with good views over Chapel Hill as well, as the name suggests ;-)
