Hotel very good, everything is clean and the staff is very attentive.
Very warm welcome and very friendly staff .Our room needed a bit of tlc ( a bit dated) no air con but a fan provided. Extremely warm room..breakfast was lovely lots of choice hot & cold buffet style .all in all a very nice stay & only a few minutes walk from old street tube station.
We stayed at this property for two nights as a couple.
The hotel is a 10 minute walk from Liverpool street station, convenient to reach if you are coming from Stansted. Also less than 10 minutes walk from Old Street and Barbican tube stations.
The structure consists of two buildings, a central body where there is the reception, the breakfast area and bedrooms. In front there is the second building consisting only of rooms, where we had the room.
The breakfast is buffet style, very varied and quality.
The room is small, but clean and equipped with every comfort (in-room safe, kettle, shower gel, hairdryer), the beds are comfortable, there is carpeting in the floor. The bathroom is a bit dated and needs improvement.
The hotel has a restaurant open until 11pm and we dined at the hotel the first evening, fast service. good food. average prices. Otherwise there are places to dine nearby.
The wifi is free.
Kind staff.
Great deal. Nice hotel. Nice sized room .polite staff
Conference room well equipped beverages and snacks served during breaks and lunch was well proportioned
Very good hotel. We stayed from Wednesday 29/5 to Sunday 2/6.
We were first placed on the 1st floor. Just above the kitchen blower. Super room change to go to 4. Great pool. Super breakfast. Bedding and room at the top.
Although the approach is not the most salubrious, the hotel is very pleasant. The meeting rooms were comfortable and the lunch was very nice
Pricey, awful low quality for the price. Do not even lend an electrical adapter
Nice hotel in a relatively quiet area of London. Would recommend
Location is great, not too far from old street tube station. The double room is a little small but ok. It could do with some modernization.
No air cond. Small room. Small tv. Very old. And bad value for money.
Overall my experience was quite good. Conference rooms were comfortable and service at the bar/lounge was very good. Location is OK. Would attend more events there.
Nice stay cleanines 5 out of 5 . All accessories needed by a family are available.nice central air conditioning . We enjoyed a lot so giving 5 star.....
Still here on a three night day stay. So reception impressive, check in process fast and efficient and desk staff friendly and helpful. Room is a good size for London, very clean well maintained. OK so a bit dated but acceptable. However More
Room was very dated and small but clean and comfortable and air con worked. TV picture was terrible and way behind what one expects these days. Huge 70s style ceiling fan which could have been fun but didn't work. Breakfast was good and staff on reception friendly.
Service is great, nothing to complain about besides the cramped room.
An ok hotel, in an ok area... felt a little apprehensive about going out in the evening as it felt a little unsafe
Nicely decent location from oldstreet underground (5 min> walk from Thistle City Barbican) to many bus/ subway travel connections to the "Heart" of London. Friendly neighborhood, plenty of food restaurants and some local (organic) grocery stores so you don't starve ;-)
A/C was defective ,during a one night stay, this was reported to the front desk at around 0400hrs . There was no provision of an alternate room. The maintenance team conducted an inspection.
poor fixtures and fittings . electrical sockets that did not work and if they did they would be dangerous as they were loose fitted and cover plates were loose . shower leaked from upstand pipe ( some fix , o ring) . generally disappointed with the whole stay .
I stayed here on business in January. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The communal areas, foyer etc. were all clean and of a good, modern standard. The room however was poor. Wallpaper was peeling off, the bedside table was hanging off the wall on one side so couldn't be used and the bathroom was good enough but old and tired. Also the one morning I got up to use the gym and pool, the attendant hadn't turned up and there was a queue of people going up the stairs waiting for it to open. After 10 minutes I gave up. Let me finish with a positive as the restaurant was excellent, especially for breakfast, service was a little slow on the Sunday evening, but in the morning everything was quick and efficient with a great variety and a really good coffee machine. I also liked that there was a selection of fruit, sandwiches, drinks etc., that could be purchased to any time of day to take with you.
All-in-all, I'd be wanting a better room if I was to stay again and I wouldn't choose this hotel over another on the basis of the gym/pool.
A very good hotel with good rooms a super good breakfast
Not a bad hotel at all but not really near the barbican and not well located for the tube.
We stayed here as part of a theatre break. The bed was comfy, the room was clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. A ten minute walk to the tube. The only thing I didn't like was it was very hot in the room, there was air conditioning but it was too noisy to sleep when it was on.
3 days of sightseeing in London with my daughters and returning in the evening delighted to be able to enjoy the swimming pool, the jaccuzi ect ...
We loved the hotel and the staff I even found this establishment at the top no complaints
Ask for a twin if you do not want to find yourself in a microscopic room. Despite good bedding and quality linen everything else is very old and small. a good shot of renovation would be to do.
It has the advantage of being in the city center. Evening meal in a very good group. The breakfasts are on the other hand very nice. The rooms are from times. Carpets etc ...
My window wouldn t close, my tv didn t work and there looked like there was blood smeared across the toilet wall if I could post a picture of it then I would. I complained the first night and nothing was done about, not being able to close my window was the worst part because it was so noisy I had to sleep with my ear phones in but I still had much to no sleep for the time I stayed there. I did fix the tv myself it was a really dodgy wire, but overall wasn t happy.
Good price for a decent hotel and service. Good English breakfast. A bit crowded at times.
OK - not good - in most ways: location, cleanliness, facilities
Booked for a conference - three staff did not know where the room was, and were not willing to help me find it. Nice space but terrible service.
I attended a professional training event at Thistle Barbican. Staff were extremely welcoming, with a personal greeter escorting me directly to the suite being used for our event. Staff were friendly and professional at all times and all facilities were excellent. The conference rooms provided were well furnished and quality refreshments were provided and kept topped up through the day. Great food and great environment to work in for the day.
Small room. Busy facilities. Room in separate building to main hotel
This was the venue for a course that I took, so my review reflects that... Every time that I arrived there, it was very busy, buzzing with tourists. Has a bright atmosphere, large lobby and on-site gym. Functional rather than luxurious, it is obviously very popular.
Not enjoying standing at the bar for over 10 minutes when bar staff come, go and ignore you. Pretty hopeless service to be honest.
Super hotel with nice staff wonderful beds super breakfast staff who speaks Dutch
Perfectly adequate, but prone to long queues at check-in.
This is not a hotel I would ever want to stay in again. If you pay top dollar you can get a nice room but if you have a budget you will get a room where very little works including the toilet.
Quality experience from the staff. Love the multicultural diversity. Highly recommend the premium king room for executive comfort
Very good and practically located in the city in a very quiet location. Good breakfast too.
Good location in central London. Rooms were a bit outdated and the windows allowed a lot of noise coming in. The beds could also do with a refurbishment
Hotel adequate, nothing special. Strong musty smell in lobby (depends which half of the building you're in), old decor and creaky lift, but rooms clean and beds comfy
Comfortable, Clean room with a good level of choice for breakfast. Room a bit hot but we were able to open the window.
One star for the room booked was available. One star for the fact that the reverse transaction worked well. You have to be careful with this hotel - the great pictures in the description and on the various booking portals only concern the main building and even there it is quite "worn out" from close up.
If you - like me - get a room in the next house, you will with a certain probability not be very happy. To describe the rooms as "verranzt" would be as flattered as to describe the ambience or the smell as pleasant. In short: something like this would be passed through in a Western setting as a battered cowboy motel or, during the Soviet Union, as a youth hostel in Siberia. However, it is completely inadequate as an offer for travelers who - for whatever reason - want to stay there without disgust.
I hadn't even lasted one night there, but rather immediately reversed it and checked into another hotel. I found the ambience and room so unbearable.
It smelled like an unventilated retirement home. The corridors are built like a labyrinth (oh woe if a fire or something breaks down there). The windows are leaky and dirty. The seals are rotten. The veneer is peeling from the furniture everywhere, half the lamps are broken, the television is from the last millennium. The bathroom is not only old, but also dirty - including a fully rusted drain, dirt in the sink and calcified shower heads. Even the textiles on the bed smelled old and musty.
A total catastrophe and an insult to ask for money for this.
It may be that the situation in the main building, where the photos were taken, is better - but I cannot judge that. Based on my experiences, I would advise anyone against booking at the Thistle City Barbican. A - for me - terrible and above all disgusting place.
Clean and functional room. Breakfast with buffet well stocked and quality. Good restoration. Courteous service but few French staff.
Fairly standard main line hotel. Would have given 5 stars but limited and extortionate parking.
This hotel lacks a bit of comfort ... and sympathy with foreign guests ... this is just my opinion
First room was so badly insulated, it sounded like the busy road below was actually passing through my room. Tried calling reception, no answer, so went down and swapped rooms. The 'new' room was quieter but not exactly salubrious, there's More
The first room we went to had horrible carpet stains and plastic toilet paper wrapping on the bed! I called to complain and we were upgraded to a bigger and cleaner room. The rooms could do with a sprucing up but the beds were comfortable and the tv was nice and big. The gym was great and I would go back. Reception were helpful and I told them that the carpet in the first room needed to be steam cleaned!!
Conference room was too hot so had to close the meeting early. Boiler was broken so there was no hot water.
Very disappointing. Service was poor, rooms were in a poor state and staff battled to get anything right about the booking and account. Location suited me other than that it was a poor experience. Many areas of this hotel need addressing
Never experienced any issues with this hotel chain. Location wasn't too bad if u need somewhere very nice to stay in that part of the world.
Only regret, didn't take advantage of the spa n leisure facilities :(
Can't wait to go back :D
A mixed bag hotel, it really is down to who is serving you. Waited in total of 2 hours for a 2 course meal on the first night i arrived. The restaurant was busy but no one should wait 2 hours. Second night service from the bar area was excellent. Hotel room was clean and tidy. This was in the new part of the building. Gym and swimming pool can get really busy.
Spacious conference rooms and good looking interior.
Stay here a lot with work.
Always quick to check out. Sometimes a short queue to get in. Proper hotel with service. Top breakfast. Showing its age in places but not alone in that
Clean hotel and good meal. Service charged for meals.
Possibly the worst hotel room i have ever stayed in, and i stay on a lot of hotels! Window didn't fasten shut, thankfully it was a warm night. Wallpaper peeling off the walls in a few places, patches of mold in bedroom & around bath. Burn More
Rented a family room for 3 people and had to
Change rooms twice because of too few beds. Just amazing .. staff weird too ..
Very nice clean WiFi is is fast Good service from staff
Nice hostel to stay for the week-end, pretty clean and modern.
Tired decor in the particular room I was in (single room in annex). Issues with the hotel staff's understanding with my company billing arrangements was very frustrating. The hotel did provide a sincere apology and offer of reimbursement to my company, when i reported this which was appreciated. Stayed before and didn't encounter the same issues. Don't think i will stay again.
Value for money, very centre to city. Nice place and good facilities... Swimming, jacuzzi, etc
Staff are friendly and helpful, hotel location is good, fitness centre is good. Rooms are small and dated. WiFi is slow (if you can connect). Fine for a day or two. If staying g longer, try elsewhere.
I recommend if you need accommodation in a business trip. Good food, mula service. Plus for additional amenities in the form of a swimming pool, gym and spa.
Small room in desperate need of renovation. Breakfast however earns an extra star. Won't be returning.
Stayed here a number of times and the quality of service gets worse each time. Won't be back
