The theatre royal is a fabulous venue for a wide range of theatre productions. It's a great place for children to watch a pantomime and the adults to watch Shakespeare all the way to an inspector calls. There's a bar on the 2nd floor to get drinks and snacks in the intermission (or any other time of the production) and great staff to go along side it to tend to a wide variety of needs. The seats in the theatre are extremely comfy and the staff may supply boosters for the little ones as well. One downside to this heap of praise is the overpricing of food and drink which is tolerable but slightly annoying when all you want to do is enjoy a beer while watching a play. To circumvent this you are able to bring in your own food and drink, however they may take cans and glasses (drinking glasses) for health and safety reasons. The building, however, is beautifully designed and decorated with 1800s art and sculpting and as another bonus, the toilets are often very clean.
Overall, the theatre royal is one of best theatres I've ever been to, with its fabulous decor, brilliant staff and comfy seats. A day out to the theatre royal often brings a smile to many faces.
Easy access with wheelchair. We were met by a member of staff who showed us to our seats. She fitted a chock under the wheelchair to Compensate for the run down to the front of the theatre. At the interval she came back to see if we required anything. A visit to the loo was necessary so she led the way making sure the way was clear for us to pass other people standing around. On arriving back she appeared again to replace the chock and asked if there was anything else we required. Amazing service and amazing show. A perfect night out for my husbands birthday.
It is amazing, if you go go please do not be sorry, and if it is in English.
We took my mum to see Les Miserables. This is a review of the theatre rather than the show (the show itself was great - my wife, who has seen it in both the West End and Broadway declared it the best version she's seen).
The Theatre Royal is an old, traditional theatre. It's a bit of a labyrinth - a trip to the gents felt like a voyage of discovery - and the seats aren't the most comfortable. After the 90 minute first act, I definitely needed to get up and move around.
What it lacks in comfort though, it definitely makes up in atmosphere. It's has bags of personality and charm. We were in the stalls and a great, unimpeded view of the stage.
Lovely afternoon watching the Full Monty and meeting the cast
Thoughly enjoyed Brilliant play ART with Nigel Havers, Denis Laws on and Stephen Tompkinson.
It is so beautiful & Mama Mia was amazing, excellent cast nd production
Excellent shows but tickets can be expensive and seats are a little uncomfortable
Great show lovely staff. You win the prize for the most uncomfortable seats in Newcastle. Where are you supposed to put your arms?
Amazing time at the theatre royal. Beyond professional and kind staff. Fantastic shows. Easy to access facilities. Long lines during busy shows but that's to be expected. Drinks are a little pricey and so is food but what more do you expect from a place like that its top class. Would reccomend theatre royal for any and every show! Good viewing from almost every seat too. Even partial viewing. Just mind the legroom at the front seats on balcony
Beautiful theatre. Have enjoyed numerous plays and musicals here. Having sat in both the stalls and grand circle can only recommend grand circle. Seats may be rather narrow and leg room poor but it is an old theatre. People must have eaten less years ago. Staff very nice and pleasant.
Mama Mia absolutely fantastic show from curtain up to curtain down. Great atmosphere at the theatre Royal.
Annie was brilliant and Theatre Royal was as special as ever.
What a magical place to see and great design of its time. Also we watched the Les Miserable play which I would highly recommend to anyone to watch.
Lovely theatre performances good and the staff helpful
Excellent venue. A piece of history in the centre of Newcastle.
Staff always helpful. Beautiful theatre. An historic centre piece of the city.
Excellent performance of Peter Pan. Outstanding cast, effects and stage sets. So funny... great for adults and kids alike.
Lovely theatre, especially like the mini museum section showing costumes and props from shows of days gone by.
Atmosphere electric and wonderful production. Truly magical place
Historic building with good views of the stage even up in the cheap seats
I love this venue to bits. Its glorious and spectacular and I hope it doesn't change. Bit of a nightmare accessibility wise.
Absolutely love going to the theatre, it's such a beautiful building & you can see the stage anywhere in the theatre. The last play I went to see was Love from a stranger, the stage was set up brilliantly & everything was great. Well worth a visit as there's always something on for everybody. Highly recommended.
Friendly staff and a great view of the stage from the majority of seats
Saw pracilla there on Thursday 20th Feb it's a great building nice a warm. Cosy seats in my opinion.
Excellent theatre affordable pricing and wonderful plays and comedy shows. Highly recommend
Amazing night watching Les Miserables in a beautiful theatre
Love this place. However, 3 hours on the seats is a chore
Theatre itself is rather spectacular but lacking in toilets and comfortable seats. A34 (UC) was so uncomfortable. Upper circle 'wings' have restricted viewing.
Love everything about Theatre Royal. Wish I could afford to go more often
A very good performance by talented actors/actresses, the "sets" were obviously extremely well constructed and lighting in a snug stage was handled impressively. Well done all.
Had attended several events here. It is superb experience.
I thoroughly recommend this product of Les Miserables. I admire the way the Theatre Royal receives you and we had a very good time
it is a fab theatre to go to been loads since I was little and still go now and then . The only next big thing their could do is the variety boxes
Beautiful theatre, helpful staff and bars on every floor. Seen Kinky Boots, fantastic, funny and brilliant show.
Stretching from the iconic Grey s Monument in the heart of the city down to the Quayside this street is simply beautiful passing the Theatre Royal and equally grandeur architecturally designed buildings home now of some fantastic bars, restaurants, coffee shops and designer outlets. Grey Street more than contributes in making this vibrant city what it is.
A great show with friendly staff. The bar queues can get long close to the start of a site, but that is only to be expected. Discounts on pre-ordered interval drinks at our last show here.
Amazing panto production such a wonderful building and great customer service
Fabulous shows but not very good for visually impaired as no contrast with the carpets on the stairs (carpet all the same colour) unable to tell where the stairs start and finish. No dedicated seats for partially sighted.
no control over unruly customers.. sat next to very loud group who shouted out all the time.. staff asked them to be quiet 6 times only to be ignored .. spoilt my groups evening
Really nice theatre with comfy seats. Saw Ade Edmondson and Nigel Planer in Vulcan 7. I enjoyed it immensely although a few left during the performance as it was a bit too sweary for them.
Went to see Captain Corelli's Mandolin, a brilliant production in a brilliant theatre.
Great theatre full of history, shame its extortionate to buy a ticket to any show
Not expecting Goldilocks & the 3 bears to be so funny. Had a great night. Fab panto
Very good.comfortable seats if a little hot in grand circle.Service excellent.Swan Lake fantastic.
