Was a bit scared about going but it was great. The characters who guide you through are funny and entertaining. A good way to pass an hour on a rainy day.
This amazing recreation of York's dark and interesting past is great for any family with kids over around 9. Actors put all their effort into dramatising, story telling and most importantly scaring you into understanding York's fantastic history. Unfortunately queueing times are often a problem if you plan on going any time between 10 and 3, unless you have booked the day before.
It's a little bit scary but still interesting. The actors there were so good!!! They told history and mystery in their own way but still funny. Nice place to go!
That was the scariest thing I've ever been to. No lines when we went in the summer, just me and my daughter and a Chinese guy with whom we had formed a close alliance by the end of it! If you like to be scared to death, 5 stars. The actors were top notch.
My partner was picked on twice by the actors for interaction and I was picked on for being a southerner. Both really enjoyed it. I have been to London and Edinburgh but this one is the best.
Enjoyed the visit here the people all put loads of effort in and it's really jumpy at times without being stupidly scary. Some of it seemed to go on a bit too much and seemed like they were trying too hard but didn't detract overall. Bit pricey but good fun all in all would be especially good for bigger groups and older kids
A must do. The actors were amazing and had many good laughs. Would do it again. Was great being in a small group and them using everyone as part of their acts.
This place is so good, its my 3rd visit but quite a lot had changed since last time which was great, I've been with friends and brought my 9 year old son this time. I love how interactive is, good value for money and a fabulous experience.. well worth a visit if you are in York.
While it's probably an introvert's worst nightmare and I spent the whole time praying I wouldn't get picked I had the most amazing time. The actors are all so brilliant and really do a great job. It was really interesting, funny and, dare I say it, educational. Definitely go if you have the time!
Had a great experience here, the actors are so good and really immersed everyone into the experience. We had some troublesome kids in our group and the actors didn't even flinch when they did anything stupid e.g shouts stupid things at them... Good job guys!
Both times we've been in the last couple of years this place was so much fun. The actors are great at their jobs and the guy at the front desk was really funny. Honestly such a great time if you like being spooked. Do go expecting audience participation though!
The York dungeon is fantastic first of all. I would recommend this to 6 and over. Honestly it wasn't too scary for me but the jump scares gave me quite a fright. There are many stages or places in the dungeon that are packed full of fear. My favourite part was the torturer. I am not going to spoil it for you all . Anyways the only downhill problem is that it ends a little quick and not too scary as I said. Probably the London dungeon is better in my opinion since it is scarier and longer but overall I'm happy with my trip to the York dungeon . Thank you.
A lot of fun! It's a definite must of you're in York with some spare time. The smells are vile as is intended and boy do the actors have a job of keeping us all entertained and in the throws of history. I was very scared in the initial room before entrance waiting for it to start and it was so dark!!! Great way to set the mood of - prepare to be surprised and a lil bit scared.
Some areas were better than others but although the characters tried hard the audience resisted fully participating. They were extremely helpful with the wheelchair.
Entrance into the dungeon was friendly and welcoming, our time in the dungeons was scary and the actors were fabulous. Unfortunately our exit wasnt as pleasant... the gift shop was empty, we were buying 1 mug and the staff member said cash wasnt accepted and pointed to the card machine, as she placed the mug into the gift bag I took out my card to tap the machine. She then said quite rudely that she only had 1 pair of hands and glared at me. She single handedly, with her one pair of hands, ruined the friendly experience that all the other staff had offered during our time at the dungeons. I suppose all the other staff have a sense of job satisfaction, if playing shop keeper doesnt quite fit... why not join the witches!
I didn't think I'd be scared but i was a bit lol and that is down to the brilliant actors. To be fair it's more humerus than scary and fine for kids. I'd say it's better than the London Dungeons.
Pleased to have the Dungeons back open after another flooding incident. The new scene is technologically stunning. Actor led scenes are as good as ever with some familiar and new faces. The overall show has been tweaked slightly making it more seamless.
Really enjoyed my experience here. The actor's were very good in each room we were ushered into. Be prepared to be picked as a volunteer in any spooky room you visit. Good props. Also liked the gift shop & we bought photos that are taken when you first walk in. Great attraction.
One of the best dungeon experiences. Good fun. Usual dungeon atmosphere and pretalks. Actors were on point and had a good mix of scary and entertaining which I love from these places. Local history blends in. I expected a more bloody viking scene but. What they have is fun.
Loved it all except was quite disturbed by us all being forced to chant 'Burn The Witch' at the witch scene, and volunteer witch, knowing how innocent women were murdered in tortuous pain due to the misogyny of the time. Really uncomfortable. Was funny to have Guy Fawkes's head talking to us from its spike though.
Hilarious. If you visit york you need to visit the dungeon. Only beware audience participation takes place and in each era you visit they target 1 person to take part and ridicule. What a blast though, well worth the money.
Depending on your kids' sensitivity, I would avoid it even if they are above 8 years old. Mine was left shaking after 30 minutes and he is 9 years old! If you hesitate or they are not sure, don't do it! Otherwise, it is very good fun and well worth it
Nice way to get acquainted with the history of York. You need to have a good level of English if you want to keep up with the speed of telling and understand the typical English jokes.
Visited York Dungeon today although the actor's were brilliant we did think some of them went on a bit to long, and didn't find it really scary. We visited the dungeon many years ago and thought it was much better then. It seems to have gone down the commercial route of selling photos toys and souvenirs, We did enjoy the experience but sorry guys thought the old dungeon was better,
