This went way beyond simple expectations as an exposition of historical epochs in a very unstereotypicle way. Some parts have live actors portraying scenarios. Very rich content and much more than a dungeon.

This was such a fun experience! It told you all about the history of Yorkshire and also made it interesting at the same time! It was funny as well to see people managing to take part in the events. Absolutely spectacular! Would definitely go again!

This was a great experience. My 7 year old boy wanted the experience and it didn't disappoint. The actors were fantastic and this was a very interactive history lesson. It was also great value for money.

Absolutely phenomenal! I've been coming here for years as I hold a Merlin Pass and therefore entry is included as standard without additional charge!

Me and my wife visited today specifically to see The Curse of the Witch which is York's brand new show for 2019 based around the legend of Isabella Billington who was convicted of witchcraft and tried for crucifying her own mother! The show left me absolutely speechless and I was left wanting more! The way they've managed to mix the actor led experience with special effects has helped this show bring a brand new edge to my favourite Dungeon that only Merlin could have created!

If you haven't been and tried this new show yet and are as bigger fan of the dungeons as I am then you seriouly need to get your act together and come try it out! I won't include any spoilers, however surfice it to say that this show is definitely what they've have claimed it to be and that's the scariest show they produced in their 33 year history of being open! With a real old school horror feel this show takes terror back to it's roots as only York Dungeon can deliver!

Overall no complaints at all! Great staff, great actors and actresses and great special effects help to deliver a scary yet funny experience which is definitely not to be missed!

Keep up the amazing work everyone, I'll be back again soon for more!!!

Wonderfully orchestrated, fantastically performed, thrilling experience, with a touch of humour. Worth buying tickets on line for the discount, even it's last minute (though there is just one queue). It is still expensive, but I can understand why. They advise for over 8s, I think it's hard to put an age on how youngsters will react though. Some of the corridors are cold, for effect, some of the rooms are really warm under the lights, pair that with a nervous sweat and you'll need to dress appropriately. The group photos they take at the start and sell at the end are good, the gift shop at the end is well stocked and includes a small bar. We joined the queue just before 1200, and exited the venue at about 1345

Fantastic way to spend an hour and half in York.

Fantastic way to spend an hour and half in York.
Very reasonably priced for the experience. The parents loved it and the 9 year old wanted to go back round again. They recommend 8 years plus but will admit younger at parents discretion. My 5 year old found a couple of places a bit scary but otherwise said she really enjoyed.
Gift shop at the end has all the usual, photos souvenirs of your trip through and then the usual themed items.
Small bar at the end has limited drinks and snacks.
Absolutely worth a visit if you've never been before. Revisiting I'm not so sure about as once you've experienced it, it's going to be hard to get that wow and scare factor back again.

Got picked on by the actors in each of the historic time piece rooms. Loved it. They have fun at your expense, a living historic reaccount of York's history squashed into under an hour. Laughs and scares abound. Still makes me laugh a few months later

If you re looking for gore and spooks this isn t the place. Compared with 20 years ago when it was a walk through saw-style gore fest, it s now a tame family attraction guided by good actors and loose history.

Great for families.

BRILLIANT! All the staff need rewarding, had such a good time! Particularly the actor who showed us all the torture methods and the man right at the start of our tour ! Hilarious! And scary at parts Will be recommending, thank you.

Amazing show. The actors were great and even though it was during "'vid" it was still fun. although you do get the impression things are scaled back right now so i ain't sure how it compares to the "pre 'vid" experience. My fave actors were the beginning jester guy and the witch who gave just enough of a "samara" vibe to make it creepy without over selling it. Anyway. Fantastic. Go.

Wow!

Wow!

This is not your usual tourist trap attraction

Make your way through the streets of yesteryear York as you experience life as it may have been back in the day .... the day when life was dark and hard

Experience the Dark Ages in this highly interactive attraction where the audience merges with the actors who take you on a trip back in time

Eerie and yet informative this is one place that won t let you down

Loads of fun is promised and delivered as are the spine tingling stories which unravel at every turn

A must!!!

Awesome experience, definately would recommend a visit. Actors are amazing, great mix of scary and comedy with a bit of audience participation in each room. Some of the smells are horrible, but as to the entertainment. Not suitable for young kids. There is no wheelchair access. Small shop on the way out that sells souvenirs.

Have been on other dungeon tours so had these visits to compare against. This particular one does not come close to the london one, but it does it's best. The jester at the beginning was very good, unfortunately the others just don't come up to her standard. This does not mean that it is a bad attraction, as the kids still enjoyed it, but it does have just that little bit lacking.

So much fun and a really good day out. A very good day out as long as you do not have a nervous disposition!
Really enjoyed myself and there were some very talented actors there too who clearly enjoyed their jobs.
Spooky, educational and entertaining!

Good fun, a series of interactive rooms hosted by characters from the period who include and involve their audience whilst providing snippets of history from York's gruesome past!
Be prepared for very dim lighting in places and bright flashes/strobe-style in others.
There is a chance you'll be a part of the show too, so be prepared to join in if 'picked on' !!!!
