Would highly recommend! Jumpy in parts but humour balances out for young ones. A good number of rooms with excellent actors! Audience participation throughout and some insight / information into the past. There was a 15min wait (bank holiday Friday) but the crowd size was just right for the room sizes. Could not fault!

We love the York Dungeons, they say it is for under 8 years but it is more funny than scary and whilst some young children may be scared it is down to personality, our kids love it and ask to go again and again. We have been a few times now and each time it has been just as fun.

My wife and I thought there was not put enough into the "fright theory" in the dungeons. There was plenty of laughs just the same and for that reason it is worth visiting. It keeps the customers in there toes too!!

We had a great time on our visit this Sunday. The actors and staff were brilliant. Provided fun and frights in equal measures. Even better value at half price with the travel by train 2 for 1 discount.

I visited today and was fine until I was pointed out to take part in the act, I have a fear of being up in front of people and the judge made me stand on the docks in front of others, I refused but he was very persistent... I felt very uncomfortable as this is something I'm not confident with, I was then put in a cage with the witch again something I was not happy about.. :( I know it's all part of the act ect but I did say no and my fella was going to go up for me but the judge would not let me off doing this, I feel that if somebody says no then that should be accepted... it ruined my experience of being in the dungeons.

York Dungeons is a great experience for all ages. The tongue in cheek jokes go over kids heads however the frightening scenes stories and use of lights is awesome for kids. Usually in groups of around 10. Watch out if you get picked out!!

A must if you are in York for the whole family. Very similar to Edinburgh dungeons.

Disabled access terrible nowhere to leave wheelchair and must be able to transfer. Do not admit under 5s said more gruesome than blackpool sadly it wasn't. Does not state anywhere on homepage only if buying online tickets and as merlin pass holders we spent 2 hours on the train to get there to be left outside in my wheelchair with a toddler in a pushchair for over an hour not easy. Total letdown and blackpool may not have as many shows but way more space and better actors.

Great place to visit, especially if its raining! Not too scary. Really funny and enjoyable with a bit of audience participation. No pictures unfortunately as phones and cameras aren't allowed.

It was our second time around the York Dungeon (12 yr old daughter insisted we go again this year). Quieter this time and not as cramped together - at peak times this place is packed and uncomfortable. When not at peak times you WILL be picked to interact, but this is generally fun and there's no set way to respond so even if you're nervous you'll be okay.

Overall: Fun and lightly factual series of mini-shows with jump scares and audience participation. Great for teens and pre teens in particular. Don't bother buying the photos unless you are a lot better at posing than we were!

Brilliant! Well worth a visit. We booked in advance in the hope that we'd avoid a queue. Not so. But the wait wasn't that bad and it was worth it. My personal favourites were the monk (the first you get to see) and the doctor, so funny. The pub landlady was really good too, as was the judge and the executioner. I got "picked on" twice, much to the amusement of my family. It was a great experience and a lot of fun, but I would say, not for the younger child. There were several under 8's in my group who found it a bit much at times, so just be aware. Overall, brill, I'd go again.

Very good experience. Lots of fun. Lots of detail. Is great fun for family or couples. Lots to see and do. Has a cafe and gift shop but they are quite pricey. Tour lasts for about 75 minutes. Only a short walk from the centre. The attraction is quite pricey.
