Quiant and tucked away. Also off the grid so it kind of feels like you're going back in time. Beautiful scenery as well. Didn't get to experience the food due to a short stay. Fires are started in the cabins every morning and you have everything you might need. Parking available at each cabin. Friendly staff.

There are few places in this world where you can truly "get away from it all" and the Waldheim is one of them.

Stayed in the Dream! We enjoyed this place very much. Nice people and a great way to unplug and enjoy each other. WiFi available in the library. Good hikes and kayak trails to take your mind off work. Two bars on the lake. Great place to vaca.

This place is magical. I absolutely love and cherish every moment I spend here.

I have been coming here since I was born, and my mother has been coming here since she was a child. One of the greatest things about this place is that very little, if anything, changes over the years. The nostalgia is almost overwhelming when I visit this place.

The Martin, and now Pratt family has mastered the art of a rustic feel and truly relaxing environment. All of the cabins are hand crafted and around 100 years old, (see some exterior shots in my pics) but have all the modern amenities. Everything is taken care of for you - cooking, cleaning, so all you need worry about is relaxation.

Whether I am making a campfire on the beach or at the lean to on the point by North Bay (in my pics), or sitting on the dock taking in all the stars, every night is a special one at the Waldheim.

My favorite activities include: hiking to Billy s Bald Spot, kayaking in North Bay, and sitting on the porch to enjoy the view. (See some of my pics for just a few of them!)

I ll admit, I m also a foodie. I really enjoy the edible offers this place has. (See my breakfast pic) Save room for dessert; their pastries are made in-house and are top notch! You can also request a picnic lunch so you have the ability to take it on a midday adventure.

If it gets too hot, just take a dip in the water to cool down. And if you re too chilly, you can get your fireplace going in your cabin.

Surrounded by protected, forever wild land, this is 100% my favorite way to stay in the Adirondacks. Whether you want that destination to sit and enjoy, or a home base to go out and explore from, this is the best of the best.

They have won a lifelong patron in me, a generational one in my family, and I know many others feel the same. There can never be enough time spent at the Waldheim.

A very rustic place, lots of families there for the week. Old customs still in place, one of the workers walks through at 7:30 ringing a bell to alert you that breakfast is in half an hour. No clocks, television, cell service, hair dryers. There is a small library with a land line and WiFi. A common room would have been nice. The furniture in our cabin had seen better days. The food was good and plentiful, however for three vegetarians at our table no provisions we're made, they had the salad, sometimes the soup, and the three sides of vegetables as their dinner.

I've been coming here since I was 12 years old. 50+ years later, my grandchildren, my children, my wife & I still love it here.

My favorite place to vacation is The Waldheim. It has been true my entire life. We arrive on Saturday to welcomes from folks we met during previous years' visits, new folks, and lots of pets, start a long week of waterskiing, kayaks, duck feeding after meals, and sitting in Adirondack chairs. Guests drop in during the week for a few days, which I did while busy with work & life in my 20s, but most everyone has their cottage for a week (in the summer). Our fall visits have been equally great, just less lake activity and more time in front of the fire.

The beds are all comfortable but bring an extra pillow or two; Queen beds are tight for 2 six-footers. The cabins provide plenty of space but the front porch or top balcony adds extra room for party guests or for quiet time to read with a gorgeous view of the lake. Every morning, there's a new fire is in the fireplace, a wakeup bell that walks past all of the cabins, except The Knoll, around 7:45am, and a huge breakfast in the dining room from 8-9am. After breakfast, maybe 10am, we walk a few steps to the main dock to feed the ducks. I loved this as a young fella and still do it today (see picture). Until lunch at 1, we ski, read, swim, hike, canoe, kayak, play volley/spikeball, stoke fireplace, take lake pictures, carve wood, paddleboard, play with our dogs, chase the kids at the beach, more skiing but now behind another guest's boat, and maybe some time at the library to check email. Lunch includes an appetizer, entree, and desert. It's different every day, in 2- or 3-week cycles, at least. Most days, we sit down in the dining room for lunch around 1:45p. Until dinner, from 6-7p, we do many of those same activities, maybe drive out to Inlet to shop or browse, and someone usually hosts cocktails before dinner. After dinner, which is 3 courses at least, we try to ski one more time, get together for cards, or build a fire at the lean-to or beach. Sleep and repeat.

It is always tough to leave. My tough-as-nails wife felt "wistful" as we left after our first full week at The Waldheim. We've done long weekends and partial weeks but the full week is the most completely relaxing experience; what made The Waldheim famous. I've been 25-30 times in my 41 years. The Martin family that started everything is now the Pratt family but it's the same family and the same values drive the small, deliberate changes that we notice each year. It's the most family-friendly place I know and I am certain that it will stay that way for at least another generation.

Go to the picnic lunch on Wednesday! Order a picnic lunch and enough canoes to paddle to the rock in North Bay for a truly unique lakeside picnic! Bring the dog! Sit in the office and chat with Kelly! Wait for the day's mail... at the main dock because they still deliver it by boat on Big Moose Lake.
