The Taj Mahal Palace is a historic luxury hotel in the Colaba district of Mumbai, Maharashtra state, India. The 107-year-old landmark hotel is located adjacent to the Gateway of India, overlooking Mumbai harbour. The Taj Mahal Hotel was conceived and developed by industrialist Jamshetji Nusserwanji Tata and was inaugurated on 3 December 1903. The hotel is operated by the Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces of the Tata Group.

The 22-floor Taj Mahal Palace has a rich blend of European and Islamic-style architecture. The hotel offers panoramic views of the Arabian Sea from the rear of the hotel, while the hotel s entrance at the front faces west.



The Palace or heritage wing of the hotel has 42 suites, 19 of which feature different themes such as Dolphin, Coral, Dutch and Maratha.

The Taj Mahal Palace was originally designed by Indian architects DN Mirza and Sitaram Khanderao Vaidya. The project was completed by the British architect and engineer WA Chambers. The sea-facing hotel structure is built on a 40ft-deep foundation. Khansaheb Sorabji Ruttonji Contractor was the builder.

During World War I, the hotel was used as a hospital and kitted out with 600 beds.

i lived in mumbai when i was a child for 15 years! now i live in greece where my psrents came from. i have travelled all over the world but have never seen such luxury and such a view , the gateway of india snd the little boats going to elephanta caves. we sat on the balconies eating sugared little sailing boats and drinking chai ,or tea. god bless you india for your beauty! alex kolovou.

Hotel looks very beautiful architecture and decor from outside which is facing sea.You will get a royal treatment from hotel staffs who will make you very special and rooms are very spacious and well maintained with good food. You can't really not give 5* to this wonderful palace to service and style. Just a heads up tho, we weren't advised taking the evening tour needed booking in advance, however the Taj staff came up with a solution and we were able to tag along and listen to the history tour, we simply didn't have the benefit of the audio supplement service.
Love the simple beautiful memorial to those killed in the dreadful attack, including remembering the security dog Lucy. Kudos Taj Mahal Palace

Though there was a waiting of about an hour to get into the sea palace but its worth waiting.

Basically the taj itself will get a awesome rating,I didn't know about inside because i haven't gone through inside,i have just seen from outside,it is very huge and vast looking from outside,i came here with my friends,and saw from gate way of india,it looks very awesome,wonderful,words less from outside,that's it thank you.

I stayed at the property this weekend Booked 2 sea facing rooms for my family and myself
The staff at Taj seems to be living on its past reputations and they feels that with the name of TAJ it will get away with bad service. Its indeed shocking to get such service from this hotel considering the brand name and reputation as a leader in the hospitality industry.
I found a cockroach in the washroom called the duty manager and they removed it
The house keeping boy had a bad cough and we walked into the room when he was coughing out phlegm in our wash basin Staff should not be on duty when they are sick
The duvet covers were torn
These are not expected from a Hotel like the TAJ
Another small issue. They have one toaster during breakfast as a result to get a toast made it takes time as you are waiting in line by the time your toast is made your breakfast gets cold the staff offered to get toast made for me from the kitchen. I agreed when the toast came they were burnt I just couldn t believe the staff bringing the toast to my table couldn't see the toasts were burnt yet he set it down at the table as if nothing was wrong. I imagine for him burnt toast was ok.

They then tried to cover these up by offering to first move me to a suite, I refused. Then a free dinner was offered again I said no. while checking out they tried to reduce my billing I told them to put every deduction back on my bill as I would pay for everything, which I did. I told them to stop trying to bribe me to keep quiet as I had mentioned to them that I would be writing a review.

What I can say is, that the staff has got complacent and the TAJ management needs to take stock of this. You can live on your past reputation/glory for some time, but there will come a time when complacency will set in so deep that it would be difficult to correct. The Management needs to spend time training the staff on these finer details . People stay at the TAJ and pay top money for impeccable service not this kind of service !!!!!!!!!!!!.

Probably the best hotel in India! Absolutely marvelous location right across the gateway of India over looking the stunning sea. Beautiful interior with lots of flowers and great lighting. Very nice room with excellent service. Seen many hotels in many countries, this one is a must if you come to Mumbai!

This is a beautiful hotel, the rooms are well sized, well equipped and beautifully maintained. The pool area can get a bit busy when the hotel is full, but is still a great place to relax and swim. As always the staff are universally excellent, friendly and knowledgeable. The fact that standards have not dropped when so many other luxury hotels are penny inching is a credit to everyone at the hotel and its management. I will be back yet again for sure.

A wonderful place to stay. I was treated like royalty when I stayed here. The room I had was spotless and very quite. It was a bit expensive but well worth it when staying in this dirty city. Mumbai is a brilliant city full of energy and sleaze. It was great to come back to my wonderful room after a spending the day in a chaotic city environment such as Mumbai. I recommend this hotel to anyone willing to splurge a few extra sterling for the night. Cheers.
