If you love the spirit of aloha, visit the lush tropics at the Catamaran Hotel in San Diego! They have out-Hawaii d Hawaii. Specimen palms fill the grounds and sky. Robust koi swim in the meandering ponds and waterways. Exotic parrots, Wood Ducks and other stunning birds also call the place home. Significant Hawaiian artifacts are meticulously placed throughout, and the architecture is island plantation perfection. It s magical. There are museum quality aquariums, including jellies that undulate gracefully in the main dining room at Oceana, the outstanding hotel eatery. We were just there on a Saturday night and the place was overflowing with happy diners. Tables overlook the white sand beach of Mission Bay alive with boats, and though crowded, we could hear one another with ease. What a treat! The creative cocktails and food were beautiful! I especially savored the signature Oceana Roll and a killer smoked pork chop. The oysters on the half shell were top notch. No way to rave enough about the staff. They were attentive, happy and oozed the Hawaiian spirit so lovingly created throughout the property. Oceana at the Catamaran is our own authentic Hawaii on the mainland. My whole family cannot wait to return!

I started vacationing at the Catamaran several times a year at approximately age 18 and continued until 10 yrs ago due to medical reasons. My son was to young to remember our last visit unfortunately, but I am going to try my hardest to find available dates to visit during August. I had a stroke approximately 4 months ago and went into a coma for approximately 8 day's after the stroke that I thankfully recovered extremely well from due to determination and most likely my age and God!. I'm turning 50 on August 11th. I also went into a coma again approximately 2 months ago. The doctors believe that it was all related to having 2 types of Lupus and RA. My point in me sharing this part of my life is not for people to feel sorry for me. I want people to know that I realized I started watching life and stopped living life after awaking from my first and most severe coma I realized some important things in my life. The Catamaran, Disneyland and the Caribbean have always been my 3 favorite places on earth and I refuse to watch life and even though I may not have as much money as I did when I was traveling at will I have something a million times better. I have a little boy and husband to live life with, like the gem I found called the Catamaran! You never know if you have a tomorrow, so you should live every day like it could be your loved ones last day or your last day. Strange as it may sound I saw people, places I love like the Catamaran and places I pray to see before it's to late. While I was comatose and realized that I want to see the world and start living it again. It may sound strange, but I'm thankful for that stroke. I'm living again! I'll see you soon Catamaran! ;-)

All the accessories, location, and sights are great, but there were small annoyances with the actual room. Electric outlets on one side of the single bed. Light switches in different rooms from the light sources. Generally very good but not quite great quality of room contruction, paint, etc. Also this may be a statewide practice, but a single number deposit and room fee up front is a ginormous cost to put on a single credit source. (1500+ dollars for our stay.)

Dinner at Oceana was well done. The ENTIRE staff was very attentive and accommodating. The view was okay, but, food and service were our priority. Exceeded all expectations.

Drinks at Morays after dinner. A little pricey, but again, their attention to customer service details were impeccable.

Best place to stay. It has everything. We were upgraded to a suite overlooking Bay and ocean. I would like to add that the staff are the most friendly people you could meet. Leaving tomorrow back to freezing two feet of snow in Calgary.
I hope my next vacation comes soon. I will only stay at the Catamaran as everything is within walking distance. I won't be needing to rent a car. Already seen the sights of SD.

The rooms are a little out dated, run down and not the best experience. The shower tub doesn't drain and the sink drips. They should pay Gordon Ramsay fix their hotel. But it's a nice location.

The Catamaran is a beautiful resort/hotel. The grounds are gorgeous with small ponds w/fish, ducks and beautiful area with Parakeets (I think is what they are) The bay is one one side and the beach is just across the street with a boardwalk loaded with places to grab some food, souvenirs, bike, surf or anything you'd like. The only down side to the Catamaran is, although very clean, it should be updated. And that's the only reason I gave a 4 star vs. a 5 star. Will definitely go back!

The outside is absolutely gorgeous and it's right on the bay. The rooms however, are awful. Closet door fell off when i tried to open it, phone didn't work at all, bugs everywhere. It looked like a run down 70s motel with a kitchenette. Two stars because the staff was amazing and the scenery (ducks and fish in a man-made river that flows through the resort, waterfall in the lobby, talking parrots) was outstanding.

We came to board the cruise around Mission Bay at night. Unfortunately, the boat was full due to a wedding party, but the staff was very courteous to us and did their best to accomodate us. We were not able to fit our party on the boat, but we will definitely come back!

Amazing hotel located perfectly for an unforgettable trip to San Diego. The food at the restaurant is fantastic. The pool is always the perfect temperature and never too busy. The arcade has King of Fighters 11 and Mortal Kombat 3. :)

Location is great for Mission Bay area! Very tropical with an array of trees, flowers, coy ponds, trails throughout the resort. Access to the bay and water sports. Outside is great but inside is DATED! Everything looks 20yrs old, from decor to linens, it needs a face lift! The doorwall in our room wouldn't close all the way or lock.

Went to meet friends. Wound up eating in their upscale restaurant. There were four of us. We each had dinner (two steaks, one short rib and one gnocchi, and one bottle of wine). The bill was over $250 (yikes). That wouldn't have been as bad but the gnocchi had no taste and the steaks were not the best. W wouldn't go back... Sadly, just not worthy.

The Catamaran Resort and Spa is literally My Personal Paradise! I used to live around the corner from the Resort and have been here over a 100 times. The Resort itself sits right on Mission bay and is literally across the street from the Pacific Ocean (can't see the ocean but can the bay).

Half a mile from pacific Beach park
Two miles from the lovely coast
Three miles from Mission Bay Park

The resort consists of a lovely welcoming area with a live waterfall parrot display; Outdoor patio with beach board walk; Beach Volleyball courts onsite; Personal watercrafts (FUNCat is the best) and kayaks for rent; Atoll Restaurant; Moray s Lounge with a large aquarium; Sushi Restaurant; Lovely spa (with the best amenities and services); 315 guestrooms; Outdoor pool with sun loungers, beach cabanas and Free weights and strength training equipment at the fitness center

Great for families!

If you have any questions PLEASE MESSAGE ME - I could go on and on about this place!!

This place is great! The bay area technically isn't private, but it's hard to get in from outside the hotel so it's about as private as you'll get. We had a room on the first floor right on the beach. It was nice to just sit back and relax. My only complaint is that you have to pay for parking in a hotel...

Conveniently located near the airport. It is right on the beach. Beautifully decorated. The reasons I did not give 5 stars are: there wasn't fitted sheet on the bed but a flat sheet that didn't cover the mattress entirely. I had lost my electric devices while staying in the room in the hotel. I was hoping the staff would try to help me out a little bit more: talking directly to the house keeper of my room.

The Catamaran was awesome! It was a great location with a great view overlooking the bay. There was a good size kitchen, two full size beds, a TV, balcony, and a nice size bathroom. The pool was very nice and we especially loved the jacuzzi. There was an arcade down there that was free for guests to use. The exotic bird show was interesting and educational, but there was no photo opportunity with the birds. The parking was a bit expensive, but it was better than parking on the street somewhere. The staff was extremely friendly. It was centrally located and very close to the beach. I would stay here again!

Great resort that doesn't force you to stay onsite thus allowing you to experience San Diego. I am hosting an event here, and their location and facilities open up all sorts of opportunities for us.

Great views, I have stayed in the tower and garden view rooms, both were fantastic. Laid back atmosphere and the staff is very friendly and welcoming. I would recommend for anyone to stay. Also the coy pond/river is Beautiful!!!!!!!!

Always Epic for FREE LOUNGE CHAIRS ON THE BAY!!!
Epic place to go walk around and check out the turtles and wildlife!
Food is Outstanding thanks to Awesome Chef's and food recipes! Great central hotel near the Ocean to go surfing or enjoy a week or weekend of Beach Life on San Diego only 10 minutes from Downtown San Diego for Baseball games.

Everything is great except for the rooms! Great location for easy bay and beach access and tons of activities. Would have been a five star rating if it weren't for the 70s rooms and bathrooms.

I am very disappointed in the Catamaran resort. I ve been a loyal customer for years, staying there on vacations and going to the spa and restaurant many times. I even booked my wedding ceremony there because it was such a special place for me. The people at the front desk were very rude on my wedding day and would not agree to let me check in an hour early to my room to get dressed for the wedding and get my dress on. We booked our reception there for this June and had to cancel it because of the COVID19 outbreak. We had to cancel back in March because many people from out of town were flying in and we couldn t ask them to do it. Catamaran forgot to invoice me for the payments and I had to ask them to send me the bill, then they sent it to the wrong email address (complete confidentiality breach) and refused to refund any of the funds we had paid toward the reception even though it would have to be canceled anyway per California social distancing and safety regulations. I am very disappointed in how rude the staff have been and their complete lack of empathy or customer care during this pandemic.

It s no longer the special place it once was to me, I will never be returning again (which is sad because we got married there). I hope they improve their customer service in the future but I will never recommend them again to any friends and family and will not forget how poorly we were treated surrounding our wedding, which should be the happiest memory of my life.

Pretty hotel. Well cared for. Friendly staff. Close to all the best of Dan Diego. The rooms have a small kitchenette in them, so you can get groceries from nearby and live more cheaply some meals. The elevators in the tower are slow, but with this many eople, it is to be expected. For down, I recommend the stairs.

Great location right on Mission bay. Walkable to a great selection of bars and restaurants. The property has great plants and I love the ducks. Rooms and beds are comfortable. No noise from adjoining rooms. Slightly noisy heater which is probably not an issue most of the time.

Centrally located with lots to do, we loved Sea World. Rooms are average, all the employees were very nice, loved the luau, best fire guy by far. Enjoyed the ice cream social. Only con to me was the pool. They need more lounge chairs and an adult pool only.

Amazing amazing amazing! 50 stars! Amber Lighty, the Director of Catering, is the best, bar none. From the beginning she was super friendly, professional, responsive, flexible, and genuinely excited to be a part of our day. The Catamaran Resort is a beautiful, classy, fun, friendly, tropical paradise. All staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed. Our Banquet Captain, Dave Hopper, was incredible. We missed our appetizers during the Cocktail Hour since we were taking photos so he made sure to save us one of each and bring them to us during dinner. That was just one example of the small details both he and Amber attended to so that everyone was happy. The food and drinks were delicious, the table linens and settings were perfect, the view was unparalleled We were looking for something romantic and intimate yet able to accommodate the needs of over 100 guests and this was the perfect balance. They can make your wedding into everything you imagined - I would recommend this venue to everyone!!

Studio tower room, bay view. Beautiful view. Great food. Only complaint was that the room was a bit too warm in the day because AC did not work well. The breeze from outside helped cool it down some.

Didn't stay, just came in for brunch. Or I suppose, breakfast. Apparently, they have either a 58pp++ brunch buffet or seat yourself outside a la carte breakfast. After a bit of confusion, we reseated ourselves into the seat yourself area. Food was okay. Cute ketchup and jam jars on the tables.

This hotel is popular for out of town visitors to San Diego, but it's also a beautiful venue for company picnics and holiday parties, weddings, and one of the best brunches in town... All of which I have firsthand experience with at this hotel.
A few years ago, brunch was changed from a buffet with a large variety of good food to a menu of entrees and a smaller variety of better food. Taken on the patio on a pretty San Diego Sunday morning, it is a special way to spend a Sunday morning.
