This is the most gorgeous hotel on Mission Bay! There are so many activities for the kids and we love the movies on the beach and the special activities at the pool. It makes you really feel like you re on an island in Hawaii. The restaurant on site has fabulous food and excellent drinks. My kids and I come every year and will continue to do so until they are too old to want to hang out with Mom. A special thank you to the professional and sweet staff who truly make you feel appreciated.
Your loyal Zax family,
I have stayed at the Catamaran Hotel 2 times now and everything there is just excellent! They even have parrots outside of our rooms and we can visit them everyday! They do not make sounds at night and it is very close to the beach! Excellent sevice, quality and facilities. I give this hotel 5 stars!
Very nice resort in a fantastic location. We stayed here for a few days and had an apartment right on the lagoon beach. It really does not get any better, especially not in a big city. The Pacific Beach was about 300-400 meters. Highly recommended.
The best spot right near the beach. All of the staff was super fantastic and helpful. I enjoyed my stay. It's a 5 minute walk to the beach, eatery places and shopping. Dining in the hotel is great but if you want to sample locally you aren't far at all.
This review is of the Spa only. It is a very nice atmosphere with the whirlpool, relaxation room, etc. My issue was not the facilities or services itself. We visited the spa on my husband's birthday for a couples massage and arrived about 10 minutes late due to unforeseen construction traffic. I would assume this should not affect the appointment as I did call and inform the spa we may be a few minutes late. Unfortunately once we got in the room the masseuse informed me we had 27 minutes left of the 50 minute massage. So basically they did not push back the appointment at all, and just used the time left which was very upsetting. I paid $300 for a couples massage that was less than 30 minutes. Not very good service. And they charge 20% tip to your card anyway. Wouldn't come back.
Beautiful landscaping, staff very friendly. Accommodation great in the Tower. Thank you Robert Gleason, mgr. for a great stay!!
Great place to stay, right on the beach with rental of watercraft and bikes right out the door.
Great food, great wine, great atmosphere! Will definitely be back!
I have been to the restaurant before but have never stayed at the hotel. My most recent visit was to use the bathroom during July Fourth celebrations.
Nice place for a work party. Close to the water, grass for games and eating, boats and kayaks to rent.
The beds were nice.
The rooms in the tower are... Not that great. Not for what they charge.
The food is insanely expensive. I mean...I get it, it's a "resort"... But the prices do not match either quality OR quantity. Do not eat at the resort...better options within walking distance for less money, more food and better food.
The staff in general were nice...but go full jerk mode when it comes to taking pictures of the ducks they put around the place. Coworker of mine was told he couldn't stay there again if he brought his camera because it was "too big". Even after my coworker said it and the pictures were not for commercial use. Basically if you are a hobby photographer with a nice camera you run the risk of being kicked out.
Location is good. Walking distance to a lot of good good places and the ocean.
Awesome view and top service
The Thanksgiving dinner was perfect
This place leaves me breathless, it is the staple of Mission beach San Diego. You are a short walk distance away from the beach and the scenery is to die for. The staffing is very friendly and the rooms are very comfortable. Around the area there are plenty to do I would recommend going to Better Buzz coffee it is the best in town. It is also about 15 minutes away from La Jolla if you want to see beautiful places and go out to dinner with family or friends. Around the back of the building is an entry way to the cove and private beach where you could rent out paddle boats or just get a quick tan. The weather was just that it was on average 74' to about 68' so amazing with the breeze rushing to your body. I would definitely come to this place again and again.
great hotel. right near everything just a little pricey
We came here for our anniversary and Mary at the front desk made us an anniversary card from hand! She sent us champagne and chocolate covered strawberries (my favorite) as a gift! We got an upgraded room looking over the bay. I'm so impressed with the customer service and kindness. The arcade is free, the pool is nice, they have a restaurant with moon jelly fish and a spa. But again, Mary made our vacation and anniversary the best. Thank you Mary
Really nice hotel lots going on with movies on the beach, free sunbeds which were always available. Our room was a garden view which was nice and quiet. 4 stars not 5 as the rooms although clean could really do with a bit of modernisation as looked a little dated and dark.
Had a fantastic stay here with my family.
Food from room service and restaurant was very delicious and there was a variety of dishes to choose from at any time of the day.
Good for families as well as couples. Right on the beachfront and koi ponds add tranquility. Spend the day on the beach, or lounging on the grass, or taking a kayak out on the bay.
We have been coming to the Catamaran and Bahia Resorts every summer for the past 10 years from Phoenix to escape the heat. Both Resorts have long tenured staff that always remember us and make us feel at home. If there was ever an issue they always make it right and go above my expectations. We will continue to visit as long as they have rooms.
Beautiful hidden gem with island vibes and kinda takes you away from the feeling of where you actually are
Great views of San Diego, emphasis on water. You can see the bay, Coronado, open ocean, and Mexico all at once!
The grounds are nice but the rooms are very run down. The bedding and mattresses were thankfully new but every other aspect of the buildings were old and decrepit. The sliding glass doors let in too much noise from outside. The appliances and furniture in the room looked straight out of 1980! One elevator was permanently broken so that you either had to take the dirty stairwell or wait forever.
The place has nice property outside, the staff is friendly. The room is ok, bigger than average, but bathroom is not ok and needs renovation. The old plastic curtains, the shower which is either hot or too hot but never warm or cold, shower stream is non-adjustable shooting to the opposite wall. I asked front desk to address those but to no avail. The $25 per day parking and $3.5 per bottle of water in the room doesn't make feel better either. I was expecting more from this resort.
This is a great old place. Still offers the quality of service you would expect from a 60's grand resort. The staff leaves nothing to wish or ask for. Maybe a bit too staid for a younger crowd but if you dont know the area it is a great place to call home for a few days. Close to the ocean and the bay and walikng distance to lots of stores and restaurants.
The hotel is beautiful, big pool and spa, free arcade, bar at the pool.. and the landscape is gorgeous. The veiw from my patio is amazing, too. Definitely worth the money.
We love the Catamaran! We visit here each summer & it never fails to make our entire summer. It has an amazing atmosphere- and amazing employees. Luz is the most kind hearted and hard working lady, and each year she shows us so much kindness and love. Our visit would not be the same without her- and the amazing service she provides. Even in this diverse situation following covid protection procedures, she has been amazingly helpful and makes it so worth the trip. We love her and the catamaran!
Super friendly front desk staff. Large room with a lovely balcony. Perfect location... just steps from Mission Bay and only a few blocks to Pacific Beach and the boardwalk. A Ralph's (supermarket) just 3 blocks down which was great for stocking our little fridge. Our family of 3 enjoyed this hotel a lot.
A beautiful resort, but there's a large difference between the tower rooms and the rooms on the perimeter of the courtyard. Parking is pricey.
I want to give it more like two and half stars. The resort is at a nice location and we got a nice bay facing room. The coffee shop, gift shop and the restaurant are nice. We really liked the Hawaiian theme of the hotel.
However, on the first day one of the fresh bath towels was dirty and had marks on it. I feel this should never happen at a hotel where you are spending close to 500 dollars a night. This hasn't happened to me even at a motel. I called the room service and they promptly changed the towel but the point is this should not happen not only for cleanliness but also for health and safety reasons. Someone could have used that towel and gotten an allergic reaction. If such a thing happens to you at your first day then you are always looking out if other stuff is clean - like towels, bed sheets and it takes away from other experience.
I hope someone from the management understands the situation.
Great Atmosphere and a Spectacular location for a relaxing and entertaining vacation.
I know the food is excellent such a beautiful sight down near the beach
Outdated resort. Loud refrigerator. Bad water pipes in the bathroom. Horrible popcorn ceilings. Good customer service. Awesome birds and ducks!
(If I could I would have given it a 3.5 out of 5, and it's a shame all my pictures I took of the resort were unfortunately lost due a corrupted memory card)
Pros.... overall the staff are really friendly and helpful. Location is superb with good view, and within walking distance of not only the beach, but also local shops and fuel/petrol/gas stations. In house parking was very convenient with only its cost being quite high.
Resort spa, pool area and restaurant were always clean and the food was extremely nice. Housekeeping very consistent and always stocked up well on extras. Also maintenance issues whenever they occured, were dealt with swiftly and by a friendly team of staff. (Our fridge wasnt cold enough and it was replaced within 30mins after the engineer looked at it 10 mins after I reported the issue).
TV had lots of channels and rooms also provided hard wired facility to access the internet for a more secure connection. (WiFi is available too btw)
Cons.... unfortunately the place is quite dated with in room decor and facilities (like kitchen cooker, and the bathroom shower and bath itself) dating back to the 80's and 90's. In house parking was priced quite high at $27 per night and would have liked to see some sort of discount for 7+ nights parking. However you can choose to park on the streets this is at the expense of convenience, distance and the knowledge that your vehicle would be safer on site. Example being.... the second night of our stay, there was a police chase and it ended with the chased vehicle crashing into 3 cars and landing in a tree which was located in the road adjacent to the hotel itself....just glad I didnt park there that night lol.
Back to the room facilities, the cooker in the Studio rooms were electric and looked like they came directly from an 80's sitcom (though you could tell they were clean and well maintained). Internet WiFi was an open connection not password secured and signal blotchy in some areas of the resort.
FYI, I personally had a Studio room situated in the Tower section of the resort, and it was disappointing to see it as dated as it was. (This was the same for a different room my mother had, and also for everyone else that I talked to during my stay (14 nights).
Overall, it was a nice stay, and only wish it didnt suffer from the above. If I know that it receives updates to rooms, etc I would still look at this place as a choice for future stays.
P.S. I booked this through Virgin Holidays, and they are being made aware of this resort.
Fun Luau, beautiful views, great time for the kids!
This place is pretty nice but parking is horrendous and they only allow one car in their lot for free. Otherwise you have to pay $50 per day.
I was only in event rooms. The rooms were quite nice, if a little out dated. Outdoors areas had heaters on which was awesome. Bar tenders were meh, although I'm not sure if they came with the event or hotel
Clean rooms, great services and very close to the beach
Great location on bay and close to ocean. They have a nice beach area. Can rent water crafts and bikes.
Beautiful resort, friendly staff and the food in their restaurant is off the hook!!!!
Oceana is a great restaurant and the sailboat rentals are so much fun at a reasonable cost.
We went here for the Holiday buffet 2nd year in a row. Wait staff are the best. They are nice and very helpful. Worth every penny.
Love the patio live music and walk thru tropical forest from garage parking to lobby. Except they brought me the wrong beer...could've been a 5 star
Great facility, clean rooms, friendly staff, beautiful views and area. Close to Old Towne.
Great view, nice beach rental options, food was not great (but ok) drinks were the same. The space for midday dining was limited and a bit awkward. The dining room didn't open til 5 so we were stuck at the bar... Full day fine dining would help this location up its game, I think.
We stopped by the resort at the suggestion of friends from the area. We didn't stay at the hotel but we looked over the grounds and spent time with birds. The property is extremely well taken care of. The plants, birds, fish pond in the lobby, and cleanliness of everything is spot on.
Beautiful hotel. I was there for a work conference. The section I was staying in was a little older than the rest and needed updating. I spoke with a representative of the resort and she explained the plans for that older section. The plans sound wonderful and I can't wait to see how it turned out.
We had an amazing time. We arrived early and they accommodated our early arrival to the best room we could have asked for. The rooms were quiet- only heard people that were having discussions on their porch area and with the TV it was very minimal. There pool was clean and warm- huge hot tub- extremely friendly staff- close to everything- clean and well maintained. We loved every minute of it and were trying to plan a return trip in the future.
We had our wedding at the Catamaran Resort & Spa on 09/15/2018. Stephany was our point of contact and helped us throughout the entire planning process. We live in Colorado, so it was a challenge planning the wedding from so far away. However, Stephany was amazing to work with and made everything easy and stress-free!
We couldn't have picked a more beautiful venue for our wedding! It was awesome to have our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception at the same venue as most of our guests and ourselves were from out of town. Stephany worked closely with us to tailor our ceremony and reception space to our needs and liking. She also immensely helped us change the catering menu to best fit ourselves and our guests. I cannot sing enough praise about her!
If you are getting married in San Diego and looking for the perfect beach/tropical wedding venue, the Catamaran Resort & Spa is the best in town! The staff goes above and beyond and the venue itself is breathtaking! I would highly, HIGHLY recommend!
Came here for our 10th anniversary and we are loving the little tropical hideaway that is our room. Cross the street and walk down the block and you are at the beach!
The Catamaran on Mission Bay has a beautiful well kept beach with chairs and umbrellas that are available to the public according to their signs on the beach. It is a peaceful place to sit and watch people, birds, boats and bikes. The Resort is gorgeous inside with dark woods and a big hanging catamaran in their lobby. On the grounds they have an area to to view their beautiful parrots and the restaurant has a large spectacular aquarium of jelly fish.
Great place to take the kids. Extremely family friendly. Lots of activities and the location is fantastic. The rooms are dated, but did have a kitchenette which allowed us to get some groceries and not eat out for every meal. Lots of animals and very mature tropical landscaping on the property. Would absolutely stay again.
ROOMS NOT RECOMMENDED...
Don t believe the pictures that are displayed..
It may have been nice in 1972, However the ROOMS are very very outdated, musty & unwelcoming, oh and the bathroom floor was all stained & dirty, also who still has first gen iPhones? Well the .001% of you are just in luck, and they have got you covered!! If by chance if you did want to relax and watch TV, well my friends you will have to sit on the floor in able to see it since it tucked in a alcove and completely out of sight from the bed and to top it off we had no hot Water..
Upside: the tropical landscaping and resort atmosphere was pleasant..
Hotel had good service, excellent bar and restaurant. Great value!
Who knew you could take a full vacation without ever leaving San Diego....Stay at the Catamaran a few nights and that's exactly how it feels...
The resort is close to many tourist attractions and the view from the higher level rooms is breath taking. You're just minutes from the beach and lots of sun. Though the rooms themselves are a bit dated so keep that in mind if you're looking to spend time in your room outside sleeping. There's bound to be other hotels with more charm. Outside that, there's many things around the resort itself that you won't be spending much time in it.
Great hotel right on the beach, complementary cheese and fruit plate at night. Staff is great!
Average hotel. Looks and sounds way nicer when looking online. The pool is amazing with free arcade games. The rooms could be way nicer for the price. But the reason I gave a three star is due to the fact you have to pay $30 to park at the resort! I ended up parking down the street and walking back.... Also for the money I feel like breakfast should be included.
Went for a wedding. The ball room was great and the setting was nice. The outside view was enjoyable.
Nice spot. There was some construction going on - but we had a great stay.
I use to love their restaurant and spa. Their customer service is terrible in both places.
You do not get what you pay for. $200 a night and could not even provide a continental breakfast. Everything was one big marketing scheme. Said water was complimentary, but charged a "resort fee" that included the water (so guess what - NOT Complimentary). Beach was great. And since it is public, anyone can enjoy it without staying at the hotel. I gave it a 2 star because staff was very kind and made a point to say hello in passing. Will not be coming back anytime soon, unless owners provide a little more amenities.
Service has been great. The place is amazing. Super glad to be here.
