It feels like you've stepped away from San Diego when you're here. Super friendly and accommodating staff, gorgeous greenery, and birds roaming the property. The trees, ducks, and parrots inside make me feel like I'm halfway to Hawaii. Rooms are comfy and clean, and the views of mission Bay are incredible to wake up to. Also they use good quality toilet paper. ;)

Catamaran Resort Hotel was a great stay. I loved all of the ducks and other birds and gigantic koi they have in their ponds. It's right off the bay and a 5 minute walk from the beach, perfect for a sunrise/sunset stroll. There's a cafe and restaurant connected to it, but I wish there was a complimentary breakfast like some other hotels, but the wildlife, trees, and location make up for it. The staff was also very polite and the conference spaces were great (slightly cold for January though). All in all a good experience.
Great location but rooms are really outdated, we had a studio in the tower and the AC unit barely pumped out cold air. Expensive considering the standard of rooms.
I stayed here with my parents twice back in the 70s. And I remember how nice and beautiful this place was back then. So now I have returned after so many years with my family and found it to be just as attractive now as it was then. The staff at this place receives an A + from me. Awesome. We will definitely come back here again. I personally love the setting and atmosphere of this place. And the quietness of it.
Nice place, perfect for kids with the pool and (free!) arcade. The grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. Staff was friendly and professional. Highly recommend if you're staying in the area!
We decided to escape for a day and night to take our girls to the Catamaran. We rented a boat to social distance out in the water and had a wonderful time. The staff was very accommodating to the new CDC guidelines.
Stopped in to meet up with a friend. Prompt, courteous service and cool atmosphere. Took a quick look at the menu but I was in a hurry so I didn't order anything. Looks like they have a pretty good food and beverage selection. I don't come down here that often but I would come back for sure.
This was our first time staying here. And we were screwed over severely. We booked a room for one night. When we got there they put a hold on our debit card for $408. (100 for damages and 300 for the room) one would assume that when we checked out we wouldn t be charged an additional 500 on TOP of our holding fee. So now we are out $900 for a $300 room. This was on Friday, it is now Tuesday and we have yet to receive our hold back. When we call the hotel they say it is not in their system and it is a bank issue, after talking to the bank they say the hotel is still holding our money. It is very frustrating as we are negative in our bank account now and have three young kids to feed. Extremely disappointed with the hotels attempt at helping us. They have done nothing and have ruined any future visits or recommendations to this place
The Catamaran is a casual, friendly hotel in the Mission Beach district. It is not new, and could benefit from a remodel. The property's website is deceiving, making it look more upscale than it is. Still, we liked it and have no real complaints. The rooms were clean and well kept, it was little things like the pedestal sink with no vanity in the bathroom that prompted the suggestion. Yes, there is a vanity outside the bathroom, but with 2 women and 4 teen girls sharing one vanity was inconvenient, and there is space in the bathroom for this upgrade. Our party has mixed reviews regarding the restaurants and bars. Depending on where you ordered, the same drink had 2 or 3 different prices. We ate at Moray's for lunch. I thought it was O.K. my friend liked it. We ate dinner at Oceania. Same attitude. I say "meh" she liked it. Personally, l do not belive them when they claim the mashed potatoes are not instant. Room service breakfast was adequate but nothing overtly special (to me), but my friend thought it was fantastic. We all agree the spa was the highlight of our stay. Compared to many spa hotels in the area, this hotel is a good value. I am not a huge fan of stuffy hotels - this hotel is casual but has the amenities we wanted and needed without the price tag associated with some other spa hotels. I would stay here again, but lt is not a "luxury" hotel.
This is specifically for their Sunset Luau. It was fantastic. The atmosphere was gorgeous & relaxing. People of all ages would love this event. They greet you with a lei and a drink. Great food for everyone's picky diets and three whole Kailua pigs! The entertainment was phenomenal. Skilled entertainers and talented dancers took us on a Polynesian tour and it was educational in a way that I wasn't expecting. The Samoan fire dance was so cool. Since I live in the area I'm totally going back.
Outdated rooms, tiny tv, no fridge, no in'room safe, bed too soft, a bit mildew like smell. Great views from most rooms though with elevators. Walking distance to beach, city, restaurants & supermarket. Price & quality of rooms not quite proportional.
Don't let the outside appearance of this hotel fool you. Within the building its wonderful. Bay, palms trees, koi fish, duck etc.. We will surely book again. Thanks for your experience
I really enjoyed my time here! Although the rooms are slightly dated, the location, Spa, and kindness of staff made it a 5 star experience. One recommendation is to add more vegetarian options to the menu :)
Room right next to the pool. It was loud all day and all night..to say this was a relaxing vacation would be a bold faced lie. I hated every moment in my room. I will never stay here ever again and I will never recommend it to anyone.
Stayed at the Catamaran for a week for a business conference. The resort while dated in decor and infrastructure is still absolutely gorgeous with several structures laid out across a good sized campus. A small stream runs around the inner perimeter with beautiful koi and ducks, and the view from the tower is fantastic as it overlooks the bay or the ocean depending on which side you're on. Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and the amenities on site, while pricey are definitely worth a splurge.
Dirty bathroom, dirty beds, broken air conditioning. However, the staff was very friendly and the pond area was great. My toddler loved looking at the parrots and chasing the ducks.
Great place for families. On the Bay, with kids movies on beach on Wed. nights. Birds, fish, big pool and good food. Restaurants are pricey but food is delicious.
We grabbed a drink at the bar and enjoyed their cheese board. Both the drinks and the cheese were excellent. The atmosphere is great if you're looking for a little staycation. We ended our visit by renting paddleboards and taking them out for an hour on the bay.
The location is ideal. A block from the beach, dozens of restaurants & bars within walking distance, wonderful atmosphere, and great amenities. Definitely a great place to stay!
We stayed here for our honeymoon and I highly recommend it! The grounds are stunning and right on the water. The front desk always greets you as you walk by and will help with anything. The restaurant attached has amazing food. The balcony to our room had a beautiful view of San Diego and the ocean. We also had a great time taking a night cruise on the stern wheeler.
Place is amazing. The only improvements are the rooms are a little dated (but fine, and you won't be in it much), and the bar and restaurant need a tiki treatment.
Nice weekend getaway close to home yet feels like you are in Hawaii. There are other small boutique hotels near by, but we chose this one because of the on site spa and the entertainment and restaurants. We wanted a "resort feel". Overall we were happy with our stay but the only thing I would recommend is that the rooms be upgraded. I stayed in a room that felt older and had some unsightly Staines and wear and tear. The ceiling is popcorn ceiling and the drapes look old. Other than that it was a nice stay. I saw many families with children that enjoyed the pool and arcade. Aquatic sports right outside the resort. Night time boat rides on a "steam boat" type. I would come back and reccomend to friends :)
Great location and friendly staff. Been here twice for spa week and the treatments are great. Professional staff that takes care of you. It can get crowded during spa week and there are some louder crowds but overall great and will be back soon!
We attended the luau at the Catamaran on our recent vacation. We also dined at Morays the following evening. Both nights we had an enjoyable experience. We had 8 people in our party the staff at Morays went out of their way to accomm9date our large group and provide extra service to our two small children. The food was excellent. The luau was very well done with a delicious food selection and a separate table for kids food. The dancers were excellent and they had dancing during the buffet as well. The only negative was that we were seated along the public beach side and several people were intoxicated and being very loud, yelling, shouting and screaming along to some of the show. It would be nice to see that regulated as we paid a lot of money to watch the luau they were enjoying for free. Several people sitting nearby also remarked that this particular group of people was disturbing their experience as well.
Rooms here are nice, very comfortable. A remodel wouldn't hurt though. The location is amazing, right on Mission Bay with easy access to a strip of beach with lots of chairs, and rentals for boats and stand up paddle boards near by. They have a very nice brunch as well! Would recommend to out of town guests and locals!
I payed for a room that costed 293 dollars and the front desk people, checked my wife and 2 daugthers into a way lower gtade room and still charged my card and the room serivce was horrible and over prieced it was at best 3 out of 5
We had a mini staycation in San Diego and we were happy we stayed at this Resort. Location cannot be beat! The Bay is on one side and the beach on the other. The setting is tropical; one truly feels like you're on vacation in a hideaway. The grounds are beautiful; the flora and fauna only adds to the tropical setting. We were there for 3 nights and everyday there was something for us to do. I enjoyed the fact that beach chairs and umbrellas are provided. Being by the Bay is perfect for small tots to play in the water. Our 3yr old daughter loved it. There are many restaurants within walking distance, or you can eat at their restaurant Oceana; which we did on 2 occasions. SeaWorld is only 12mins away and you can actually see it from the Bay. If I had one small critique, is that perhaps their rooms could use a bit more sprucing up. Perhaps change the flooring. Aside from that, everything was great including Customer Service. We will definitely return.
I've never stayed here but the outside is awesome. I walk by this place daily on my evening walks. Nice drinks in a very cool Hawaiian/Polynesian type setting. I highly recommend...
The location is perfect set right on the bay and a block from the beach. Rooms are decent and room service is great. The grounds are lovely with beautiful plants and water with fish and ducks. Birds are fun to see and the handlers are very friendly..
Beautiful and comfortable. Great location. Would stay again!
The only drawback is that the walls and the sliding glass door to the balcony seemed to let in more noise than I'd like. That and some of the guests were a bit noisy during quiet hours.
Myself and lady friend spent 3 nights at the Catamaran. We found it kind of an Idyllic place with Tropical theme. Room was adequate over look the tropical garden area. All service people were extremely helpful and polite. We would have given them a five star rating but we had one major problem, our room housekeeping was terrible. Both afternoons of our stay our room was not cleaned until late afternoon i.e. second day we had to call for service at 4:30 PM. Completely unacceptable. I well say when we checked out our concerns were solved to our satisfaction.
My girlfriends and I meet here several times a month to go paddle boarding and then sit outside at the Catamaran and eat lunch. The patio has been redone and looks great! Cozy and tropical feel. Love it!
The location is amazing, but we ate at the outdoor cafe Moreys, and the food was really quite disappointing. Fish sandwich was bland and lousy, fish tacos were decent but tiny and (3) totals $16 for about 6 total bites, with no sides. Flatbreads are pathetic - again $16 for something the equivalent of a frozen pizza. Overall, the quality was mediocre at best, portions small, and the prices were quite premium.
One of the best places to visit in San Diego. I recommend to friends. It is very close to Pacific beach, and opens up to the bay through a trail of tiki torches. They have an indoor waterfall with a stream that leads outdoors filled with beautiful koi fish. They have occasional Hawaiian barbecues with dancers and shows. You can meet with Parrots, and walk through their clean on-campus trails. I commonly spot baby ducklings in the spring. There is also a very large pool connected to a bar and arcade.
We ate at the Oceana restaurant, the service and the setting was wonderful. The scallops were the best I'd ever eaten. After the meal we took the boat that goes between Catamaran and the Bahia Hotel, it was really pretty going across the bay
