Amazing visit theodora was a great tour guide. Look forward to our next visit!
Incredibly interesting you will guaranteed learn loads!
Had a really good few hours there our guide Allison was really good and made our visit very good thank you
2nd visit to The Royal Mint (1st since lock down eased) fab tour as always and very interesting .... markings set out to keep 2m distance and hand sanitiser stations in lots of areas we all felt very safe returning and going on the tour. My girls struck their dinosaur 50p (2nd in collection).
Pre-ordered a 2021 release Britannia coin. Official launch date was 19 October 2020 and received the coin the following day. Packaging was ok, could have been better with the coin set more securely rather than rattling around in a cardboard box. Fortunately the coin did come in a capsule and was in excellent condition. Fast shipping service, quality product and would definitely buy from again. Many thanks!
Great place to vist very friendly and very educational
Really interesting place but you do not get to see as much as I would have liked.
Very professional, clean, and interesting. Parkingis free but is a 1 minute walk from the entrance so be warned if raining.
After the tour you are free to roam the history part, so you do not feel pressured to leave.
The shop is very disappointing. Very small with limited choice. Was hoping to see some gold bars or something you do not see everyday.
The cafe was lovely with good choice.
Excellent and informative tour. Guide catered to all ages and well informed commentary delivery in a very natural way. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit.
Great place well worth a visit nice cafe friendly staff.
Really interesting place to visit with very informative guided tour and opportunity to strike your own coin. Well worth going to. You'll never look at the coins in your pocket in the same way again.
What a superb experience!
I visited today to strike my own Brexit 50p coin. I bought a family package online which included entry for two adults, two kids, a hot lunch for everyone and two strikes.
The tour started with a security scan, an introduction to what the Mint is, how they work and their history. You're then taken on a factory tour where some mad employee started throwing pound coins at you and pouring handfuls of coins at the glass between you and the factory. So funny!
At the end of the tour, you visit a room with a press, a blank is loaded into the press and you hit the button to strike your coin which is then loaded into a presentation box and handed to you.
The staff are absolutely brilliant. They're ALL so helpful, friendly and always smiling. The food was delicious and the cakes were fresh and fluffy. The entire tour was a couple of hours but you felt looked after by dedicated staff the whole time!
This is a really interesting and fascinating tour. It really opens your eyes about cash, the coins in circulation and the logistics into making this happen securely and safely.
We had an awesome day and I have to thank the staff for that!
Thank you!!
I tried to order a few of these folders. Wanted one for my own collection and also 2 for 2 friends who competed in the Paralympic games. I collected sets of coins for them and was going to present them the folder full as a "runner up" prize as they didnt place high enough for medals (on finished 4th, so close) No I am trying to find some way to present these coins but nothing is as good looking as the Royal Mint collectors folder. Please bring this product back so I can get some and make my 2 runner up friends feel like winners. :-)
Great few hours and facilities if you have extra time do some drawing for future new coins
Really good tour on the history and production of coinage. The shop is also wonderful and it was a pleasure to discover that there was a Machin commemorative coin.
Very interesting, knowledgeable staff that were friendly and engaging.
Definitely worth a visit.
My grandson rated this as he liked it a lot, especially as he got to strike a dinosaur 50p.
Really interesting.. Might bore children, but it's a good view of how it all gets made..
Visited the store for family Christmas gifts. Knowledgeable and friendly staff with a superb selection of items to choose from. Cafe handy with plenty of seating. Will visit again soon.
Nice to know that this is a genuine trustworthy company unlike the London mint which is a scam
This is a great place to visit and learn about the different coins being minted for different parts of the world here. Quite disappointed despite being on 35 acres, they only showed the public a small piece. There is parking near this place and decent reat rooms available. Tour guide prices are quite pricey despite making money already:) Definitely recommended if anyone wants to learn more about coins in the UK and rest of the world. Thank you.
Fab experience here, incredible to see so much money being poured into oil drums! Great coin collection shop too for any budding enthusiast!
Informative. A history lesson and the modern world of coinage in one visit. Afternoon tea too :-)
If you are interested in coins and collecting it's a fabulous place. Lots of info, interactive aspects and you get to see the actual production of your coins. The added extra is minimal but you get to strike and keep your own coin.
Poor signage to get there. Felt the guided tour was rushed and robotic. Cafe - enjoyed cream tea but jam small pot and cheapest quality. Scone was delicious. Salads looked good. Very clean throughout and good safety precautions in place.
Amazing experience, not what we were expecting at all, I managed to strike my own coin and gain most of the "the great British coin hunt" 10p's. It wasn't crazy expensive either. Although we didn't know it was in Wales and originally thought we were going to London . The staff were all enthusiastic and friendly too. Over all an amazing experience, would definitely recommend for friends and will definitely go again.
We had an excellent visit to the Royal Mint. I went with my 8 year old son. We both had a total blast learning about the coins and seeing the process of how they are made. If you're in town, this is a place to visit.
Booked 2 tours online for my family of 8 and.they only let us use one tour.. meaning only one half of family could go.... they said u ca only do one.tour a day on one booking. Ripped right off!!! Bunch of robbing hoods! I've booked 4 tours on the same day before but they ate just being useless job worths! Have emailed customer relations who are dealing with this... I said this is a trading standards issue, but asks u online ( would you like to make another booking today) so I did and they wouldn't let use it after 1 hour travelling.... not worth the hassle!
Absolutely amazing place to visit. The tours are extremely informative and the guides are very engaging. It's amazing to see the scale of what they do there and just how many coins they produce daily. A truly worthwhile visit. Highly recommended to anyone!
Visited with my 5 and 3 year old during the school holidays. The tour was hard to keep their attention but staff tried to make it as interesting as possible for them. ( I thought it was brilliant and I'm sure older kids will too) As we were leaving, we discovered a free Knight masterclass which was absolutely amazing and included in the tour ticket. It's a shame I wasn't told about it on arrival as we had a long wait until the next class. Would give 5 stars if there was a playground.
Amazing place, very friendly staff. Big thank you to our tour guide Alison
Fantastic place, really enjoyed the tour, learning about the history of coins in Britain and many other countries who have their coins made there aswel.
What a superb place to visit, the facts and figures given out by the tour guide is astounding. A very knowledgeable guide made our tour fascinating and very enjoyable. I will probably go back again when a new "strike a coin" is available. I only wish it was closer to visit.
Really great place lovely cafe lots to learn and see
Great place to visit especially with the guided tour thrown in as you will hear about all of the history of the Royal Mint from its beginning to the present day. You will also see the machines working and you will surely be as impressed as I was to discover how many millions of coins are stamped each and every week. They also stamp medals (Olympic Games) being only one example of the hundreds they have produced. A fantastic place to visit and you can even stamp out your own coin.
Amazing day out! Cafe leaves a little to be desired.
Great day out for a family. Learn how the coins in our pockets are made. Stamp your own coin.
Great place and interesting view point of British coinage
Great experience that's an eye opener. Amazing how many coins they produce for all over the world. Definitely worth a visit.
Our tour guide Megan was very knowledgeable which made the tour. Afternoon tea was amazing and presented very well. We would encourage everyone to take the tour and for that special occasion have an afternoon tea, thank you
Brought my granddaughters who live in Lancaster, we spent 2 hrs there I had to drag them away. Brilliant day.
Friendly staff, learnt a lot about the history of coins
Royal mint is great i brought 2coins it took just under a week i was shocked,I was so happy and i have compalted my coins so i need a forder to put it in now so i hope i win 1
Really nice but it is sad that they melted all the old pounds
A brilliant visit! Such an interesting and informative tour, our tour guide Alison was excellent! Would recommend this to anyone
Only made a delivery but they were all a friendly bunch including the Security, not heavy handed at all just helpfull. Wouldn't mind if all the people I met delivering around the country were as nice.
Great place to get you special coins very friendly staff
The website is terrible, keeps crashing and says security alerts, managed to eventually get my item in the basket and now wont let you check out. I give up
It was very interesting. Better than expected according to my 12 year old grandson
Good tour. Interesting facts delivered well.
Disappointed that our photo taken of the coin striking didn't come out.
Wheelchair and accessibility excellent.
Cafe terribly noisy due to 'Knight School' doors kept open. Food just average for high prices though friendly and helpful staff.
The place to get uk coins good service and easy to manage website
Our second visit as it was a rainy day and it was fab. Alison was a real good guide, showing us how the metals are mixed before making our way to the production line. Made more fun this time as the worker brought the bag of coins behind the glass and let us all have a hold (a wont say how much is in it :P). Oh and dont forget to Strike your own coin, we now have 4 syo Sherlocks which look great in the collection.
The Royal Mint Experience, Wales
Wednesday 4th April 2018
The factory was opened by the queen to start production in 1968 & the experience to the public in 2016.
Booking online is a prority as you have to book in for the tour, showing up isn't really an option as it's very popular, particularly during the school holidays.
There is plenty of free allocated parking a short walk from the museum.
Set on a site of 35 acres, the tour shows you a small fraction of the operation of making coins.
After going through security, very similar to that at airports, you are greeted by your tour guide in the film room, you watch a short film about the importance and production of coin currency, history etc.
After this, the tour guide leads you to the factory where you are shown how each coin goes through each stage to become currency. No photos are allowed in this area, with a high level of security even phones/cameras are not allowed out on view.
The tour lasts approximately 45 mins, you get to watch machines make the coins, not only does the factory make UK currency but does for many other countries too & is the leading royal mint in the world. The Royal Mint makes 90,000 coins every week!
The tour is fully accessible for all & is very informative, the tour guide was fantastic, especially with the children, getting them involved & hands on with learning the history & process.
The tour guide left us in the museum after concluding the tour of the factory.
Very impressed with our tour guide, she knew every answer, she was clear & genuinely lovely, the tour was a great experience.
In the museum photos could be taken, full of the history it hosted a wide variety of activities, games for the children. The Royal Mint also press medals, so having family which served in the war this was very interesting. Not only do they press for other countries but make medals for events such as the Olympics aswell.
The gift shops is full of collectors items to purchase, many with high price tags. A variety of items to buy, from fridge magnets, chocolate to one off coins.
This is where you can view & purchase your million pound photo if you had it taken during the tour, a great souverner. The gift shop could extend its merchandise in supporting the actual experience itself.
The average time spent at the experience is 2 hours, including the tour.
There are accessible toilets which are clean.
There is a large cafe on site serving hot & cold refreshments.
Outdoor seating to the front of the building should you want to eat in the sun, smoke or eat own food.
As a family of 7; 5 of whom are children aged 2, 6, 9, 9 & 15, it was suitable and enjoyed by all. The tour was interesting and timely, reasonably priced & highly recommend.
A great opportunity & educational experience, amazing staff, great facilities & another asset to Wales.
Great for all coin collecting and nice food and coffee
Excellent experience and highly recommended. The staff were all incredibly helpful and very knowledgeable. Wonderful place to visit and gives a real insight into the history of our coinage. Special mention for John our tour guide who went out of his way to answer my husband's question.
Courteous and efficient tour, but a little dispassionate, Thought retail side a touch pricey, overall a good but not overwhelming experience.
I have not visited the Royal Mint 'experience', but I have ordered numerous products online. Unfortunately- the website experience is poor. If you want a site that: frequently crashes; takes ages to process; cant reliably tell you if your order has been accepted or not (due to numerous time out errors, but still takes your money); takes a millennium to deliver product; and a customer services team that send out generic impersonal responses... then this is your company.
Its such a shame. Royal Mint products, although expensive, are great quality, and are superb collector pieces (hence the 3 star rating). However, the experience online really lets them down time and time again. I have had several orders via Royal Mint, and only a couple have gone through with no issues.
I feel 'deflated' by my experiences with them.
Absolutely wonderful day well worth a visit friendly staff
Great place to spend a couple hours and don't forget the bolt cutters!
I work here and so far they have treated me well. With regard to the visitor centre, i have visited it twice and i have thoroughly enjoyed it both times
interesting to know the Royal Mint.makes couns for 60 countries. Good tour but not interactive. Guide was informative and knowlegable but talked at you.
Interesting couple of hours. Good guide and interesting displays.
