Food was great, front of house staff are really lovely, but I do think they need more organisation of the table service. Our starter didn't come and went to another table by accident, then we also didn't get a second wine refill. Lovely people, great food, but disorganised and slow. Fix that and they're on to a winner!

Nice place, classy decoration. Supposedly England's oldest inn, though I'm sure there are many contenders to that throne. Didn't stay in the rooms.

Lovely building in a beautiful town, staff friendly if a little disorganised. Burgers and fish were great and generous portions, steak okay, food was warm not hot and chips overcooked, but pleasant evening.

Unfortunately the food was very average and not up to expectations based on other reviews.
The highlight of the meal was the creamed spinach!
Overall the food is basic, and distinctly average and there are many better places in the area/Cotswolds.

Great setting, very classic English pub. Good service and friendly staff. Food was ok- we had the Sunday roast. You got a boiled potato with a brown tinge and a singular carrot and a singular parsnip. Meat was average. Yorkshire pudding was tasty as was the cauliflower cheese. Good location within Stow on the Wold. We had the baked camembert for starter which was delicious.

We stayed at The Porch House for three nights. The hotel was absolutely stunning from the outside and did not disappoint when we were taken to our room! Our room was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable. The location of the hotel is perfect to explore many must-see areas of The Cotswolds by car and the staff were very helpful and friendly. We had a meal in the pub downstairs which was good but nothing special, but there are plenty of other places nearby. However, would definitely recommend a stay in the hotel!

Lovely rooms, food and pub but no parking and slight complaint would be that there was no one around in the morning to check us out and we had to go across the road to their sister pub the Sheep just to hand back the room key. Apart from that everything was perfect :)

Arrived on Thursday afternoon & stayed until Sunday morning. Staff friendly & accomodating - room very comfortable on ground floor at rear of hotel. Ate in every night as food was excellent & did not see the need of going out to eat elsewhere.
Would recommend this quaint old hotel to stay if visiting the Cotswolds. Hope to return again in future.

Everything about our stay last night was fantastic the food was really good and I d like to mention Roman who was our waiter he was absolutely fantastic and a pleasure to meet
Thank you very much for everything we look forward to coming back in December
Shocking shocking communication.
We booked this hotel last year as we were getting married at a venue down the road. Throughout the whole process communication was terrible. My wife loved the place so I thought I would surprise her and book the same suite she had and we could go and spend our 1st anniversary there. I booked on their website and requested someone to call me as I had special request and no one did. Few days later I called was told someone would call me and guess what. Three attempts and nothing. Sent an email to cancel the room. Tonight 4 days later as had no confirmation it s been cancelled and I have just been told my booking still live and I would get a call back as there was no manager on site to remove my booking.
Shocking how a place like this is run so poorly.
I have received contact from Nicky and I feel she has looked after us well and I look forward to speaking with her soon

Brilliant food. Cozy traditional style interior. Very nice welcoming atmosphere for a cold winter's afternoon. Native rump steak is surprisingly rich in flavour. Do try the duck liver and orange pate as a starter. They also can give you extra warm fragrant bun if you ask for it. Reasonable prices but you get very nice posh feeling. Winter ploughman's dish comes with soup of the day too. That'd fill you up.

We visited lunchtime on a Wednesday. Service was quite slow considering it was not that busy. It was our first time there and we didn't know it's all self serve. We just sat there for a while waiting to be served , the lady who showed us our table forgot to say we have to take a menu and then order at the bar. Considering the prices, the portion was very small. We had fish and chips and a burger, the chips were very greasy. Staff looked unhappy and not at all enthusiastic. Otherwise a nice looking pub.

I received a voucher from activity superstore for an overnight stay and porch house was one of the options. I initially tried to book in May. There was no answer on the telephone and the email unfortunately came too late so we could not come.
I tried again throughout October, both me and my boyfriend called and emailed throught the month. The phone was rarely picked up When it was, the staff said that I would receive a call back later that day to organise so the voucher would be used. These phone calls were never returned. The emails were sometimes replied to quickly, however it went quiet after one or two emails so the room could not be confirmed as booked.
We are really disappointed as we were keen to come to the porch house and the cotswolds However, the service was very poor and made it impossible to actually book a room. I would not recommend trying to book if you have a vouchers or cannot book through their website

Will not recommend purely due to customer service. Had booked 2 tables, 10 days in advance during the Eat out to help out scheme for a meal. Was told I will hear back about the confirmation. Till the day before there was no contact by the team. Upon calling them I was told that my booking was declined and no one cared to inform me about this until I called to reconfirm. This left us with no place to eat as it was too short notice:( Poor Service:(

We stayed at The Porch House during the Cycling event in September. We enjoyed our stay at The Porch House with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant was fully booked so we found a table in the bar area and enjoyed a good meal. Next time we'll book a table in the restaurant in advance.
Good food, wine and friendly helpful staff.
The Porch House does have a few dog friendly rooms at the back of the hotel which is very useful in case you have to take your pooch along too! Again book in advance as these rooms are limited.

This is an authentic pub that dates back to 947 AD, no kidding! You will also enjoy modern amenities such as a generous selection of beer on tap and a respectable menu. Service is very friendly and considerate.
Terribly disappointing. The Porch House was one of...
Terribly disappointing. The Porch House was one of my travel destinations when I visited England, but staying here turned out to be one of my least favorite experiences. They advertise elegant, chic and luxurious rooms - I found nothing that fit this description.
When I arrived, there was no obvious reception, but rather a bell to ring. It sat over a table where guests were sitting, so I had to disturb them to ring the bell. Nobody came, so I had to wait until a waitress walked by. She seemed bothered by my arrival, but checked me in.
My room was at the bottom of the stairs by an outside entrance to a dining patio, so I could hear everything that went on out there. So going to bed before 11:00 was out of the question. They have cute little classic door knobs, but the design means that if somebody leaves their room, the doors are very loud. This made sleeping late also impossible. I didn t have a full night of sleep my entire stay.
The rooms are simple, with nothing chic about them. The carpet was awfully stained in my room and the bathroom sink was so small that it was difficult to use. There was no dresser to put clothing in and not even a luggage caddy, so I had to live out of my suitcase on the floor. In fact, there was so little surface space that the towels were on the bed when I arrived. The shower water was barely warm but the sink hot water was scorching. The shower did not drain properly, so I had to keep my showers short enough as to not fill the shower pan. I tried calling reception twice about issues and nobody answered.
The place was largely unkempt. My room had stains on the carpet, the patio was riddled with debris and cigarette butts. At breakfast, there were loaves of bread to slice from, but no bread towel so people were handling the loaf, which is well...icky.
I ate lunch once in the restaurant and was given a chicken salad with black avocados. I sent it back. When they returned it, they had obviously reheated my chicken on the grill and it was dark and stringy. I explained that I was unhappy with the salad, that I didn't eat, but still had to pay for it.
It was a terribly disappointing hotel stay and lacked the charm I was hoping for.

What a place this is, the staff are amazing, the service was top class and the food was delicious! The staff even treated us too an early wedding present with prosecco and a dessert on them... After hearing we had to postpone our wedding in 2021! Would highly recommend, thanks for a perfect weekend

Would have given 5 stars if both me and my partner hadn t found hairs in both our two main courses... which made it a fantastic birthday meal. Only one dish was offered to replaced but we still paid full price.
Despite that, they did accommodate my allergies and the menu has few vegan options. I tried the bruschetta with vegan feta and enjoyed it apart from the soggy bread. I would recommend the confit duck but keep an eye out for hairs!

Stayed here for one night in January and the moment we walked we were greeted with a cheery hello from one of the staff and made to feel welcome. Didn't have dinner but the restaurant was busy which suggests that the food must be good. Nice bar with plenty of choice for everyone even those that like a rum or two. Slightly disappointed not to see at least one local ale, instead there was the usual big brewery fare. The Hobgoblin I had was well looked after and served in an old fashioned dimpled jug glass which was a nice touch. Very friendly manager who knew his onions and spent time explaining the local area to us. Room was lovely with a roll top bath, huge comfortable bed and a Nespresso machine. Floors and walls were as wonky as you'd expect from a 9th century Inn which just added to the character. We'll certainly be back.

I have eaten here and enjoyed the food very much, but I know it mostly as a place to have a pint when visiting Stow. The historic Porch House has a friendly local-pub feel, but with the style of the boutique hotel it really is. So you will find comfortable surroundings, exemplary service and a well-looked after pint.

The hotel s interior and furniture gave it a vintage and peaceful ambiance at the same time. The hospitality of the staff make this hotel perfect. I didn t stay here, just came for coffee and had a little talk with my new friend, sharing that cotswolds is definitely our dream place to live. I hope I can visit Stow-on-the-Wold again in the future and stay in this lovely hotel for days. :)

Went to this pub for afternoon drinks. Very traditionally finished pub with a few real ales locally sourced. The staff were highly competent and very professional, tailoring to our needs. Prices are a little higher than expected but it is the same all through the town. Some family of ours were staying there and the rooms are definitely on the small side.

Great building ...lovely room . We checked in 5 mins before 3pm ( stated check in time ) only to see room still dirty from previous guest . Had to wait 30 mins to enter room after cleaning. Parking non existent....the whole of Stow has a lack of parking unless you get here before 11am . Felt dissapointed after big hype about the quaint villages of the Cotswolds

We booked a meal here for our wedding anniversary. The building is beautiful however the food was at best average. My husband ordered the squid to start which the lovely waitress recommended. It looked like scraps fished out of the fryer at the end of a long shift. There was no gremalato (as stated on the menu) to be seen, and the batter was almost burnt. My main was just ok. The stone bass was well cooked but the risotto was bland. On a plus, our waitress was a delight and handled our complaint well, and the wine was good. Such a shame, we definitely wouldn't eat there again.
