As zoos go it is moderately large sized but thoughtfully done. It is part of the zoo system working to preserve endangered animals by breeding. They have a somewhat hard to find walk in a bamboo forest to see bears that is worth the effort. A large area for younger children with a petting zoo on one side.

They put in a nice enclosed cafeteria, very useful since zoos attract bees for many reasons. Open all year, go early morning in summer, by noon all the animals are wisely taking naps in the shade.
In winter the animals are more active all day and during the holiday season they offer a nighttime Zoo Lights program. Everything is lit up and the feeling is somewhat magical.

I had a lovely time. The facilities were clean and staff were so friendly and great at their jobs. My husband and I got in free for the veterans day promotion and paid to upgrade our tickets. We rode a camel! You can see by my face in the first picture that I was so excited! Definitely a cool experience and a wonderful day.

My family was not impressed with the sheer number of cages that were empty. I was not impressed with having to pay extra for my kids to see giraffes, pay extra for the 4D theater, and pay extra for the dynasores. I was impressed, however, with the variety of monkey species that they had.

Check out ZooTeens if you have high school age kids. It's the best volunteer opportunity for animal lovers. Lisa Kramer, the supervisor... She's so wonderful I don't know what to say. The zoo has so much to offer so don't knock it until you explore it.

I find the wildlife zoo much more entertaining and welcoming, along with having an aquarium. Our encounter with a park personnel telling us not to use the flash on our camera, well she was quite obnoxious and acted as though she was a cop with little man syndrome.

We actually went to see the Zoolights display. It was really nice. So-o-o many light displays very well done. And the synchronized light display to music was great. Especially viewing it from different sides of the park.

Not much going on here. If it looks like fun it costs extra. Long walks with nothing between exhibits. Most of the buildings are under construction. One shouldn't have to pay full price is half of it is seasonly closed or under construction.

My husband and I got a membership this year for our grandchildren and ourselves. The zoo really is quite nice and it has a lot to see, especially the local wildlife. Surprisingly a great escape for a day out of the suburbs. I would highly suggest bringing water and snacks just in case you do not like what the snack carts have to offer.

It's very popular for families with young children and becomes very congested. If you're not going with children, you're better off going around 7:30 when the early crowd begins to thin out.

Amazing place for a great family experience. Lots of exhibits with information signs to learn anout all the animals. Would suggest getting there early as it can get too hot during the afternoons. Bring lota of water and sunclscree. There are also other things to do. They have a splash pad cavern area, carousel, and 4d movie theatre.

It was overall a great family outing. It was a very hot day, so we tried to get out there as soon as they opened. My kids loved the splashpad. There was allot of construction for some exhibition improvements. Recommend to pack a lunch for large groups. Food and drinks are a little overpriced.

I absolutely love this place. I am visiting for 3 weeks from Denver ao I just went ahead and bought a pass (cause the single tickets are a bit pricey... You pay the pass off in two visits). Anyways, I went there 6 times, between 4 and 8 hours per visit. The 3 weeks still isnt over lol, so I estimate ill go 15 times. I have nothing to do while I'm here and I am a zoo fan and bird lover too so I made a list of every bird species I saw there. Anyways, excellent and friendly staff.
One of the reviewers on here was complaining about how embarrassed she was because she didn't have her ID or something stupid like that, and she said it was the worst experience of her life. Seems a little melodramatic to me, the people here are great and we're always quick to help me with a smile. The rules are very clear that you need your photo ID otherwise people would sneak in and rip the zoo off. So use a little common sense and follow the rules and yes it's an excellent Zoo.

Fun place to spend the day with your family. It s best to get there early though I don t think they open until 9:00 am. Wear your walking shoes, there is a few areas where you will walk some distance between exhibits. Food is good, you can now order and eat in a air conditioned building.

I'm not happy with the zoo anymore. The last few times we've been, there's been trash everywhere, staff nowhere and hardly any big animals on display. Maybe we just pick to go at the wrong times, but I feel like we keep dumping money into an elaborate walk around the desert.

Enjoyed our time at the zoo, the piped in acoustic music was very enjoyable. Now for the bad part, liked how they announced every 15 minutes that everyone has to wear a mask and to be socially distant, but saying it and not enforcing it was in my observation not done. Many people were walking around without a mask on and not distancing themselves and employees driving or walking around not enforcing it. The Phoenix Zoo can do much better better.

This zoo is hard to beat! They have almost any animal you can think of and almost more than you could explore in one day. Definitely a place to break up into a 2 day weekend visit. Thanks for the fun times Phoenix Zoo!

I love the zoo. I remember my momma taking me and my sisters and brothers with the yearly pass. I was a beautiful day to be at the zoo the weather was perfect. It wasn't very crowded so we were able to take our time and walk around we saw so many animals it was great. It was the first time i took my great niece and she loved it the bob cat was her favorite. I cant wait to go back.

Good verity of animals. Not the cleanest zoo. Good place to bring children. Sadly bikes are no longer allowed. One thing I do need to say is that this winter, they put some stumps in a stream that runs through a play area, and I don't know who's idea it was, but they are an idiot. My little brother tryed to jump from stump to stump but slipped and fell, and was all wet. In about a 15 minutes variable, 3 other kids fell in.

Nice place and they are remodeling for more attractions. Employees are not friendly and to do anything cool like ride the camels you pay an additional charge. Great for a school field trip but a rip off for a single family.. high price for admission and you have to pay once your thru the door???
