Saw Garrison K. w/my dad @ the Oregon Zoo. It was nothing short of an EPIC experience!! It was on his bucket list to see him, & having been given 3-6months, due to stage 4 terminal cancer... combined w/the fact that, unbeknownst to us & many others, a hand on the small of ones back could & would ultimately end Garrisons career....
Great news was dad, by some miracle, survived!! :)
Sad & bad news was, Garrisons lifelong career did not :(

This place is great. Along with treating their animals really well, they also treat their employees well. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They all seem to really enjoy working there.

Went for the Christmas lights, stayed for the elephants.

We ve gone a few other times (not during Christmas season) and it s your typical zoo. The animals look cared for but they re still in captivity.

I'm not sure why the animals are in prison, but I assume they have all committed heinous crimes, especially the baby elephant. There are an impressionable number of fat, suburbanites there with ugly, stupid children. They should really post a warning sign at the gates. Otherwise, I had a delightful time.

Hard to believe I have lived in Portland 40 years and never been to a zoo concert in the summer. Even though a large part of the zoo is under construction ,the concert venue was excellent. We got there in plenty of time to find a great parking spot and a great spot to sit. There was plenty of food to choose from and lots of time to wander and see the animals before the music started and the weather cooperated! Even the exit was orderly and timely considering the huge crowd. I will go again.

The prices there are ridiculous and don't forget, parking is extra. Yes you have to pay to park in the zoo parking lot in order to actually go to the zoo.

We just went the Richland Metro Zoo I'm Virginia yesterday and it was $17.50 for adults and parking was included, as it should be. Rides were only $3 per person.

We love the Portland Zoo! We've only gone a handful of times but each time was a great experience. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Weekdays are probably best, although I can't speak for summers. Get there early and pay for all day parking, unless you go there a lot plan on roughly 3-5hours to thoroughly enjoy and see everything.
My only qualms are that the layout isn't my favorite and it gets really congested in the NW animals section, but this isn't the zoos fault. Also as great as it is to have a drink every now and then I was disappointed to see alchol for sale there. We didn't encounter anyone who was overtly drunk, but it makes the zoo a little less family friendly.

Bring a stroller or wagon! Maybe even a snack and definitely water! Rainy days are nice there too (less people).

Overall a good time. But way over priced! For a family of 5 - $75 for tickets, $8 for parking, $28 for lunch, for a grand total of $111 not including $20 in gas which would make it $131 to walk thru the zoo for a few hours. The kids did have a good time though.

Who doesn't love the zoo! They upped their game this year(2019). Most of the lights were on/working and they added some new things/changed around some. Plus like a 5 min wait for the train the night we went!

My 4 yr old was insistent on the zoo when they were only open for another hour. I was hesitant but don t regret it- we basically had the place to ourselves! The weather was gorgeous and the animals were so active. I would go back in a heart beat, even if we felt slightly rushed, it was better than fighting crowds. They place was well maintained.

Too much noise made by young visiters, stressing animals out. Needs updated enclosures. Elephants on all concrete. Sad
Mountain lion pacing obviously in distress and way too small of enclosure. Children banging on separator. Could use park workers to guard these areas. Not sure animals top priority.

The worst Zoo ever. No animals were active in mid June and park staff rude. This is not worth the money or drive. Very displeasing for the family. Gift shop caters to girls from baby to adults not much for boys.

I love the zoo lights. I was disappointed with so much construction and a lot of lights weren't put up. It was really nice to see the train fares have gone down significantly within the zoo. We still enjoyed, yet looking forward to less construction and more lights again. So many of the exhibits weren't open as in past years as well.

Nice zoo overall but with so many exhibits closed down or under construction, not every exhibit is so compelling. The northwest was great and you were able to get very close to the bears.

We visited the zoo last summer and became members immediately. It is a wonderfully maintained space with fantastic exhibits, humane habitats, and a great focus on conservation. The food and beverage vendors (many of whom are independent) are also a huge plus. There's great South American food at Verde Cocina and great drinks available throughout. What's better than watching giraffes while sipping a margarita? We come regularly with our two-year-old whose favorite animals are the elephants. Seasonal events like zoo lights and the squashing of the squash are also not to be missed. If you have a chance, definitely check out the animal talks given by the knowledgeable and friendly keepers. Ultimately, we are very lucky to have such a world-class zoo in Portland.

Great place for people of all ages. I like to go for an afternoon trip, catch a few special events/keeper talks and head home. The membership is well worth it. Zoo lights is fun, but brace for large crowds. Some of the pens/exhibits are older, but they're working in the next 20 years to better everything as they can.

I have been to a few zoo's in many different states. From Washington, California, Hawaii, to Texas. This is hands down my favorite zoo. It has tons of unique animals and exhibits to include water exhibits. Rarely do you get both an aquarium and zoo at once!

The staff are always present and willing to answer questions about the animals. They have military discount and it is stroller friendly. The animals look very well cared for and happy. Normally Zoo's are depressing for me, but this one was fantastic. We probably spent 5 hours here in total.

Will visit again.

I've had a membership for years, even since before I had kids. It's worth it if you go more than a couple times a year. ZooLights is included in memberships, and we love going every year. Love that the Max drops off here if you don't want to navigate parking.
