An iconic pub that is one of the best on the lower Northshore. Downstairs they have an outdoor area with plenty of seating. This has the now famous tree which when lit up at night looks magical.
Wine list here is solid, with lots of wine from Orange. A little bit expensive, but great wines for a pub! All the normal beers available.
The food is decent with plenty of options. What the heck are Japanese disco fries though? Haha
Service is always pretty friendly.
Inside they have the same bar set up from over decades ago which is impressive. A few TVs and also a fire in one of the rooms.
Upstairs are plenty of pool tables and 2 bars. The main bar is the exact same layout as seen in the pictures from decades ago. Amazing!
Location: Plenty of parking in the nearby streets and buses run all the time on the main road.
This is a kid friendly venue and I would highly suggest for couples and family events. It gets busy, and as expected, especially on weekends and nice warm evenings.
Great place!!!!
Food is ok. However poor access for prams and wheelchairs
The waiter staff are extremely helpful and respectful of me in a wheelchair.
The "Dinosaur steak" is a good pick for 2-3 people, it is served with roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables and four sauces!
One of the sauces is a tasty garlic butter.
I usually have it after an appetizer of Schezuan Chilli fried calamari.
Great food. Excellent surroundings. Good friendly service. Thoroughly reccomend
Great atmosphere and great food. Always love going to The Oaks
It is the North Shore's local. Has everything you need and more.
Admittedly I worked here 20 years ago, but it says a lot when they still have the same staff on shift ! Consistency is key !
The best eating and drinking establishment in Neutral Bay. Well worth the short journey across the Sydney Harbour Bridge from the city. Has a great variety of foods on offer all of which is a superb quality. Great to sit under the big oak tree during the Barmy summer days. Great for families small groups large groups and the ideal place to celebrate any occasion full stop guarantee you won't be disappointed.
Been here twice and each time the highlight of the location is the spacious beer garden with a good vibe. Best place in the area for a beer outside on a sunny day. Plenty of tables but gets really busy during summer. Also has a chilled out lounge area near the inside bar as an alternative. Kids are also welcome in the beer garden area and they have a decent menu.
I went there on a summer night with my boyfriend and we sat in the lovely beer garden with a massive old oak tree in the centre, hanging with lots of tiny lights. It was absolutely beautiful and the atmosphere was relaxing.
We came here for the steaks and they didn t disappoint us at all. Both the eye fillet and the fillet mignon wrapped with bacon was cooked perfectly and the serving was very generous. They were reasonably priced too.
Highly recommend The Oaks to hang out with your friends or love ones in the beer garden in summer; or duck inside in winter.
Great place to relax under the Oak Tree. Good range of beers for a relaxed afternoon or evening.
Reasonable pub food at the middle to your price segment. What sets this place apart is the beer garden under the massive tree. Good place to relax on a summer afternoon with a cold one. Service pretty good apart from the terse lady taking the bistro orders, doesn't cost a lot to smile.
Perfect place for a steak on a cold winter's day, especially by the fire.
Great relaxed get together grab a bite and have a drink
Great place, great food, great service and great drinks, what more could you ask for? Recommended 100%
Amazing pub..good vibe.. Gorgeous oak tree.. On a summery hot day sipping beer under the oak tree is like a dream come true..
Great Steaks from The Oaks Butchery, a New York sirloin and a Scotch fillets washed down with a couple of great beers, definitely will be back to try another of the restaurants on site
Celebrate everything there! Awesome atmosphere, great food, good range of drinks. And who doesn t love that beautiful tree! Pretty good customer service, too. Always enjoy my time there.
Staff are the best . Nothing a drama . Can Confirm their Beer refreshes
One of the best experience in Sydney for food and environment...
Lovely courtyard under the Oak tree and quite passable pub food. A few quite interesting bites. Will no doubt be back again soon.
Great atmosphere, amazing beer garden. Food is horrible. Go for drinks dont go for a sit down.
There is something magic about sitting under that magnificent oak tree the end your week. We had a lovely rose and you always run into people you know
Visited with the family on father's day. Chaotic, understandably, but the food was sub par.. Considering the prices we paid. The roast dinner wasn't very good (the only redeeming element? The potatoes). The beef however was rare and sinewy. Gravy tasted like gravox. Definitely felt sick afterwards too.
Great pub with lots of different bars. The oaks has been a fantastic and popular venue for such a long time and is a corner stone of Neutral Bay
Love the atmosphere here. One of the last places to have pool tables and an old school feel.
Love the place. From outside it does not look anything special. The oak looks amazing and upstairs has lots of pool rooms.
One of those legendary pubs that have been around for ages! Great food and atmosphere.
Service is great. Food and drinks awesome. Vibe excellent and entertainment awesome.
The new menue is poor beside the meet selection there is nothing to order. Still my faverit pube to have a drink with frends
Food is always good, still a pretty spot to eat dinner
Diner - Tomahawk Thursday.
Friendly staff, good customer service, nice atmosphere, family friendly, wide variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks and amazing food like the tomahawk that we just ordered . We will come back for more.
Lovely friendly staff, beautiful setting in the courtyard, the tree full of lights is lovely. Made my way through the cocktail menu, some interesting ones but my favourite was the chocolate espresso martini - yum! Sat at the bar and it wasn t too loud and it was spacious. It was raining but there were seats available under cover.
Where else can you buy a top of the line piece of moo and cook it yourself...
This place used to be a great pub. Still ok in the day time under the Oak tree (although food is pricey for what you get) but I would seriously reconsider coming here at night time. Aggressive security guards will pounce on you (after you've spent lots of $$$ of course) and kick you out for no good reason. Maybe it's a sign of how terrible Sydney nightlife has become in general :(
Love the oaks. Great place to bring tourists. Food is $$$ but its worth it.
Apart from the outdoor setting under the big oak tree, the food is good at a reasonable price
Was after a steak, people were pushing each other out of the way to be next in the (significant) queue. Utterly bizarre. Barred that. Went to order a beer and Tequila shot and was told they dont do shots. My American friend then proceded to ask in what scenario would they use alcohol like Fireball? She just looked back blankly. We left never to return. Should be zero stars.
Last time, we had the displeasure of North shore spoilt brats and packs of "bros" acting up and spoiling a birthday party. On the upside you can play barn full of pokies or cook yourself $40 steak in the garden.
Nice pub with beautiful Oak tree at the centre. Unfortunately the weather has been horrible each time we have booked and the staff have had to relocate us inside. Coffee's are not the best, but the steaks are to die for, and there is always a good number of interesting on-tap beers (I love the Very Berry Sour that they currently have). The entrees are great, especially the miso glazed chicken wings and salt & pepper Szechuan squid!
A nice large pub with amazing food. A great location for a casual catch up or celebrations.
The place is very nice with a beautiful oak tree in the middle of the outdoor area. It's probably a little too pricey. Good choice of beers.
A great local pub that does good food and reasonably priced drinks. It can get very busy here on weekends and Friday nights!
The hotel was great. Great atmosphere. After the hotel you have to go to Misty Vapours accross the road. It is sooooooo cool.
My partner and I entered the above hotel , we have never been at this hotel before. we were targeted by a female manager and all afternoon we were constantly starred at. This hotel is not a safe and comfortable place to enjoy a quiet drink. We were not drunk or noisy we were simply enjoying a drink. We spoke with a male manager and he was sorry for the female managers behaviour, do not enter the hotel. They target innocent people.
This is one of the few hotels in Sydney that you can't miss. The food is amazing, the environment is great, the tree with the million lights is just something that could be on a postcard. However, in our experience the most important factor that contributed to make our experience an outstanding one was the amazing service from one the restaurant's staff, she really made the difference from being a good experience to an unforgettable one. Her name is Sienna and I'm very grateful for her outstanding service. It's not rare to have a good service from a good restaurant in Sydney, and if you think about it, a restaurant may spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in decoration, menus, events, etc. However, nothing compares to the satisfaction that a customer gets from such an amazing service provided by a staff that goes above an beyond their customers to guarantee them a good time.
Thank you Sienna I want to congratulate you for taking pride in your work and making our experience in the Oaks an unforgettable one.
How bar is good, but for dinner I didn't like it very much, it's not ugly, but it's like cooking at home. They also don't take your food to the table, you have to go find it at the counter
Real selling point of the outdoor beer garden, otherwise nothing particularly out of the ordinary.
Thank you for making us feel at home in Australia. Everything about 41 is excellent, although your biggest asset is your team. I can t say enough about each and every one of those men and women who took care of us. I had a problem adjusting my sleep, and used to spend many late hours near the fireplace. Someone always made sure that I was comfortable. And of course, we are especially grateful for early check in and late checkout. Our big big thank you to all of you and bravo! for maintaining the highest standards of excellence in hospitality.
Once again you have exceeded our expectations from the moment we stepped through the door. We can t think of anything you could do to improve thank you!
Best service
This is without a doubt the best service we have received in any hotel in Australia . The attention to detail and thoughtfulness of the staff and management is indeed inspiring. I run a business with 100+ people and I know how hard you have to work to meet such high standards. Well done and thank you!!
This hotel is one of the greatest hotels in Australia.
I have stayed there a few days ago again and the service that was already excellent, has even been improved.
The staff is just perfect, giving a more than a perfect service.
The rooms are exquisite .
There is just nothing bad to say about the hotel. Just go there and see for yourself.
I have to say that the service we received was impeccable. The staff were all so polite and could not do enough for us. We commented that whilst we were over the road from airport, we felt like we were in it with a the plentiful and super professional staff on hand for our every need. The room was immaculate and the bed linen perfect. The breakfast was delicious served in the beautiful lounge again by staff who were incredibly attentive. The Curry Room at the Rubens next door was also fantastic. We will most certainly return.
Later we stopped here for a snack on our way back to the airport. Had the boneless buffalo wings and potato skins appetizer and some French onion soup. Appetizer was very good - wings spicy but not too spicy and the potato skins were excellent. Courtney our server was excellent and friendly, knowledgeable. Would stop in again if in the area. It's a chain but pretty good - better than most. Prices very reasonable.
No 'on the rocks' allowed despite a premium spirit being ordered. Never a good thing. Sad...
Great location, excellent service & well prepared food.
Amazing old pub with an old oak tree in the beer garden, must see if a night time with the fairy lights on
Best little pub in Neutral Bay. The Oak tree outside is still the main attraction.
This place will never let you down. In summer the beer garden is a must. The upstairs area is cosy and charming and the pool tables are always popular. The biggest let done is the DF can be a bit lame.
Very nice and warm place. It is also very comforting and old pub. Their staff is very welcoming and nice as their pinor noir wine.
A classic pub on the north side. Lovely courtyard outside with a amazing oak tree in the middle. Ready nice in summer outside and at night.
Intrigung.. unusual.. some staff were cool.. some werent.. very different atmosphere .. but wld def go back.. the clientele range from one extreme to another.. no need to say anymore lol.. had a good time as i was with a great companion or it cld have been a different experience thats for sure..
The place is beautiful, I have been there on Saturday night and the tree with all the lights was super fascinating!
The food is ok, not great, I ordered the stuffed chicken with spinach
and unfortunately the chicken was a bit row.
Great place to meet over a drink... There were five of us and we ordered from different sections of the menu. The pizzas were somewhat bland... The base needs work. The Patties on the burgers had burnt on the outside and dry on the inside... The vegetarian dish.. grilled eggplant with coconut yoghurt wasn't too bad. The staff were friendly and helpful. But the kitchen need to up their game.
