A long time ago, I gave The Oaks 4 stars but have had to change it to 3 since the 2019 remodel. The front bar is now a sleazy Sports Bar (but always crowded so maybe they were right) and the back bar has a way-too-bright cafe feel.

The place is great and always lively. However, nothing puts me off more than when the manager (who clearly stood out, older lady, wearing red) is rude to their staff, especially in front of customers when the member of staff is serving me. It's clearly busy, she's doing what she can, really unnecessary to be rude.
I have been going to the oaks for years now. It's one of my absolute favourite pubs.
It's a little pricey for food and drinks but it is in Neutral Bay so not sure what else people would expect?
I think the food is pretty great and you get value for what you pay. Their starter of squid is AMAZING. Pizzas are good too.
You can either chill outside under the big oak tree (that has the prettiest fairy lights which just makes it even more beautiful), go upstairs to one of the many pool rooms, sit in the restaurant, sports bar or find yourself a little nook to hide away.
It can get very busy when a sporting event is on, or just summer in general! Worth it even if you have to wait a few extra minutes for a drink.
I had dinner there with my brother's family on a Saturday night. There's a fantastic beer garden with a huge oak tree in it. It's a really great space for a casual meal. We were there when the lights came on in the tree and as it got dark it created a lovely atmosphere. Even though it was busy we didn't have to wait long for our meal. I had the pork belly with Asian salad and it was very tasty. They have burgers and pizzas, steaks etc on the menu. I would definitely return and recommend for a casual dining experience.
Nice place, outdoors under the oak tree is pretty much packed all the time. Food is great (pricey though) and beer is the same (IE good and pricey.) I like that there are multiple areas, so depending on your mood/ company you can find somewhere comfortable to hang out.
Really disgusting guy who helped me at the counter. Didn t even bother to say hello; standing infront of me like a statue, didn t speak a single word, I don t know his name but he was a blad guy with white shirt in his 40 s. He really needs to learn how to greet customers first. I would rather have gone to bws. They have at least happy faces......
Food in the bistro was really good however tables / chairs were really cramped. We had a group of 20 and could barely get up to walk around the table to speak to one another.
Seconds experence at the oaks. Problems with same manager constantly pressures people who he believes look intoxicated, even when they haven't had anything. 90% of function left early to go to more relaxed pub down the Rd, he constantly interrogated people and seems to have an issue with people having fun. Brilliant building, good food however definitely won't be spending $2500 on a function there again.
I am not a regular to this pub but each time I go there has been another renovation which has recreated another space into an interesting, unexpected delight.
Staff are attentive and friendly, the food and beer are great and there is a huge range of events on throughout the year.
I'm not a huge pub person but this isn't a pub its a "hotel"
Its almost 4 places joined together with a food restaurant, beer garden, cocktail bars, sports bar, pool tables, private and public rooms.
Its really a wonderful venue.
Highly recommend for any of the above listed items and don't overlook it as a great place to book a room for a function as having a pool table in your private room can be a fun activity.
The bistro is good to and there is heaps of places to sit and eat inside and out.
If your not into crowds miss the busiest times, friday and saturday nights.
Always nice to go to the Oaks Hotel. Very nice food and atmosphere. One remark, how is it possible that such a big hotel "forgot to order mussels!?!" we drove especially to the Oaks to have the mussels and you hear that they forgot to order them... what a bummer...
Not a bad pub but the food prices are crazy. My friend and I ordered two Sunday roasts, both $29, and neither of them were any good. I love a good roast but this wasn t. Roast potatoes very dry and no flavour, not enough gravy, meat was average, beans were under cooked, no Yorkshire pudding with the beef. I d say a fair price was $15 at most!! The rest of the menu was similarly priced.
Full of locals, beautiful outside area with the the Oak tree itself. Huge place with lots of different style bars and types of food. One of the best pubs in Sydney
There's a big oat tree in the garden. I've been there a couple of times for a quiet drink but the last time was the first time I noticed it...now I know why they call it The Oaks Hotel:)
A wonderful venue with great food and an extensive range of wines and beers. I've been a frequent customer for several years now and my only gripe is rising prices. Paying $26 for two schooners of beer certainly seems unreasonable.
The oaks is a great pub, family friendly with a relaxed vibe. The food is bistro style and delicious. Upstairs can get a little hot so on humid days aim for downstairs or outside.
A hard to beat beergarden. What came first the tree or the pub? With a magnificent oak tree as a centrepiece, The Oaks is known Sydney-wide for its iconic beer garden. If you ve got a slow, lazy sunny Sunday, it s a great place to gather to eat a top-notch steak, go a gourmet pizza or some fresh seafood. There are pool tables upstairs and if you feel like a boogie, the Nineteenthirtysix art deco bar cranks out the tunes at night. #cityexperts #steak #neutralbay #pubmeal
One of the really well managed Pubs in NSW. It's been a long standing standard for good Pubs in Sydney for more than 30 years. Great food, professional staff, great venue, private rooms, very friendly and welcoming. All Pubs should aspire to emulate this great establishment.
An amazing venue, with a fantastic outdoor seating area. Exquisitely designed and excellent interior layout, perfect for a dineout with friends or family on the casual week night out. Food is excellent.
Great atmosphere Steaks were fantastic , we had a mixture of the normal steaks and the Tomahawk. The gravy choice was great . The potatoes in duck fat are great.
