What a perfect spot for lunch on a warm day. We ate in the garden under the shade of the enormous oak tree. Wide variety of food on the menu. We chose salad options which were delicious, generous but not too filling.

Bar area decorated in art deco style. No children allowed in bar but they are allowed in the restaurant.

Loved everything. Food, drinks, welcoming staffs. Toilet was very slippery. Liquid soap was spilled all over the floor but nobody seem to hv noticed. May be a one time neglegence or mistake because it was too crowded. Definitely a good place for some drinks n snacks.

It s a large historic pub but it s lost on me a little. I had fish and it didn t have great flavour. The wait for food can be quite long as can the wait for drinks.

It s a quite big for a pub and often busy but the vibe just isn t there for me. However, the outdoor court yard is quite a nice spot

Recent changes don't seem to be working...disappointed that you can't order food upstairs. Have to go down and join a very lengthy queue... 30 mins to order and pay then it took a further 60 mins to get 2 pizzas delivered to us. Hopeless system now!!!!!

OK so the steaks are good but the consensus from all four of us is that the sides are rubbish. Get the Cream of Spinach, really good creamy truffle mash, decent onion rings, solid serve of mushrooms and this would be one of Sydney s best steak joints. Message us when you have the sides together and we ll be back. PS. Don t run out of Oysters by 7pm.

The Oaks is quite the hotel bar. Our goto place for our company Melbourne. During one of the busiest times, they accomdate 30 of team. The food service is amazing and quick considering a full house. Food is top notch for a hotel! Staff is amazing and friendly. Great place for a beer and something to eat.

Just finished a meal at the Oaks. Have been coming here for 35 years. Most at our table enjoyed their meal. Burger and chicken burger. I had the dry aged rib eye with pepper sauce and roast potato. If I had paid $7.50 at aN RSL but it was $49. It was a disgrace. The pepper sauce tasted like it came from a packet. There is no way it was made with beef. The steak was as tough as old boots even though it was cooked as I asked medium rare.

For the price there are way better options. This was very very disappointing and in now way was it value. I have lived in the area for 25 years and know why I rarely come here for a meal. In fairness my wife loved her burger

This an historic pub that offers a wide variety of experiences: indoor or outdoor dining. It's famous for the diy grill. Pool table upstairs is also a nice way of spending time there

Average price for the restaurant and very good food. Although they had a mixup when we ordered the food but they made up for what they lack in their organising skills with customer service and great food.

Great spot to hang out, upstairs in the function area there is so many rooms that you can choose from to chill in. The oak tree is stunning, but getting there is a bit difficult as there is no trains, so your best bet is a bus from Wynyard.

Not a good experience . We made a reservation. They gave us literally 1 hour to eat and drink, were rude kicking us out because they had overbooked, then made us line up outside to get back in. Terrible. I would have left if I wasn't with a big group. Hopefully this place goes out of business sooner rather than later.

Now 30mins later they still haven't let us back in despite telling us multiple times it should be soon. The bouncer has let multiple singles in. We're leaving.

Don't visit this place. They are arrogant and don't respect patrons.

Sometimes a dining experience is superb and sometimes a dining experience is substandard... This dining experience was neither.
The Oaks set a whole new standard - Sad.

After paying my $100 I sat and excitedly awaited my Tomahawk.
I shuffled my knife and fork for 45 minutes only to be told the docket had been lost. Amazingly, about twenty minutes later I was presented with 1.8Kg of steak, apparently.

I cut into the steak and found fat, I cut around the fat and found some steak, I repeated this cycle for about 10 minutes - mining approximately 500gm s of actual meat.
The next twenty minutes was spent salvaging as much meat as I could from the kilo of cow mass left on my plate, without much luck.
I (generously) calculate eating somewhere in the region of 600gm s of meat - this left more than a kilo of fat and gristle stranded on my plate.
After weeks of looking forward to Taking on the Tomahawk I couldn t be any more disappointed! I was ready to participate in an eating challenge but instead I performed surgery on a morbidly obese ex-cow.

I informed the manager only to receive a shrug and a smile. No really, that was the response - After $100, an hour wait, 20 minutes of hardcore steak liposuction and some mild meat consumption - I was handed a smile and a shrug.... and a can cooler (but not the advertised trucker cap, as they were out of stock, or no longer stocked it, the manager oddly wasn t sure)

My advice would be to stay away, unless you like paying wads of money for the privilege of waiting an hour for a plate of fat?

The Oaks Hotel - You owe me $100...

Good food but with very cramped seating compounded by no table service

[Customer Service] 3 out of 5
I rate this low as there really isn't much of it. Yes the person taking my order up at the cash register was nice enough taking my order and money but that's all the customer service you get. You still have to get back up later and go and get your own food when it's ready.

[Restaurant] 3 of 5
It's a beautiful pub but the seating is way too tight together. We sat back in the corner due our size and twice I had to get out of my seat (to order and to pick up my food). The tightness would not be a problem except for the fact that you have to go to the front for your stuff. I was in a position (twice where I actually could not get through going either way because the tables / chairs were so close together. This was a real problem when i was coming back with a tray full of food.

[Location] 4 out of 5
It's a good location, parking could be a problem

[Food] 5 out of 5
I am sure some people would like to eat outside and DIY cook your own steak. Personally I go to a restaurant to have them cook my food, but that's personal preference I suppose. For pub food (I got a steak) the food was really good and above my expectations.

Over rated dining. I know it is more challenging in the covid world but....... Ordered 6 meals. Different steaks cooked differently. Was served 6 steaks on 3 trays with no idea or no explanation as to which was which. Attitude was just serve them up and get them out ? Plus all steaks over cooked and tough. Very disappointing.

Didn t get to experience it unfortunately.. I got sectioned off and advised I had a wardrobe malfunction and was therefore too drunk to be in their establishment within a few minutes of being there. As someone who grew up in Mosman and frequently went to the oaks I m disgusted, because I want to wear a short skirt I m not allowed to stay in their venue? Disgusting.

The Oaks is a bit of a Sydney icon. I first visited in 1989 while visiting my sister in Manly from NZ. Having lived in the Sydney CBD for the better part of the last 8 years The Oaks wasn't really on my radar, but a recent relocation to St Leonards has put it back on. And I've been pleasantly surprised to find it is still great. In fact it's become my go-to lunch-with-chums destination. Pays to book on busy days. Outside is best.

Very high CP and very good quality restaurants and hotels.
The dining environment is clean and textured, and there are many options for meals. Steaks are usually grilled over a fire, and there are many types of wine. The service staff can also recommend the types of wine, which is quite cordial. Suitable for friends, families, couples dinner!

Australian local fish + steak steak meal, the local fish is very delicious, the meat is fresh and tender, the taste is great, and the steak is grilled very well, the fire is controlled quite properly, no matter what kind of meat, the portion is quite large! Even so, the salad dressing provided by the restaurant is very sour, not sure whether it suits everyone's taste. But all in all, I recommend it to everyone overall

Honestly just young people getting silly drunk, sad to see it go that way
Previous review: This place is beautiful, great food and beers, and the beer garden is magical, only issue is that it really is very expensive... More expensive than your average pub.

Great food. We had the steak, pork truffle croquette, and japanese fries. The fries were sooo good. The tomahawk steak didn't disappoint, it could be good for 3-4 people
Didnt like the chocolate mousse that much, but the ice cream that came w the banoffee pie was really nice.
Would recommend booking a table before you come in.
