Really awesome vibe, the pub is massive and you can totally forget that if you just view it from the outside.
There are sections that make you feel like you're completely separated from the other parts of the building, each with their own respective vibe and theme.
The downside to the awesome space is that staff are a bit meh, flat and really just trying to churn you in and out (it's busy so I guess fair enough) and the food is a little on the pricey side plus it's very ordinary for the price too, maybe that was cos it was busy, but still. Otherwise, it's a great space with a killer atmosphere and it certainly draws in the crowds.

The Oaks was a beautiful spot to remove yourself from the busy world. Providing many options of indoor and outdoor seating with well liked after areas to enjoy. The massive oak with fairy lights entwined gives the outside a great feel. The classic timbered look inside gives depth and warmth to enjoy a beverage and meal together. We enjoyed the food and the music playing was just at the right volume to still enjoy conversation.
Great atmosphere and lovely location. The food was superb and I m really craving having another one of these steaks!!! Yum!!! It was pretty busy, but it was a Friday night after all, and although the masses of people our food was still ready pretty quickly. After dinner we went upstairs and played some pool whilst enjoying some drinks with some friends. Overall was a really great experience and I can t wait to go again. I highly recommend the Oaks Hotel.
Can u please dry your wine glasses before giving me one. I have been there several times and I love it but I really would love a dry wine glass and not to dry it myself. The waitress has given me napkins every time and made me dry my wine glass. :) thanks guys
Great to have a spot that accommodates large family gatherings so well and makes it all easy. Steaks are good quality and cooked just about right - sometimes a little overcooked for medium-rare - and there are lots of good sauce choices to go with them. They are flexible with the sides allowing any combination of chips, salad, veggies or mash which is much appreciated in a fussy group. Reasonably priced too and service is quick and friendly. The huge oak tree out the back creates a wonderful setting and easy parking can be found in Big Bear shopping centre right next door, was very handy on a recent rainy day.
Great location and venue. Unfortunately, the food has gone down hill of late. Pizzas used to be amazing, now they are meh. Pasta tastes like a Dolmios jar, and the mussels are ok but nowhere near as good as they used to be. Bring the food back up to scratch and it's 5/5
The bouncers have taken so much cocaine and steroids that they are unable to correctly assess patrons for entry, and restrict access to certain types of people based on their racial appearance. We are locals and have we been coming here regularly for a long time, we often witness people being unfairly refused entry and being told you re not coming in because I don t like the look of you .
Management should seriously consider drug testing their security company before something even worse happens and someone is more seriously injured.
An all round great place to go.. The garden bar is something else..trees covered in fairylights and plenty of seating.. Inside is a range of bars, pool rooms, vip lounge.. a dance area, this really is the place to mingle, celebrate or just have a quiet drink.
Abbbbbbbbbbbbbbbsolutely beautiful spot. Lots of variety in food and drinks. Outdoor area is stunning with fairy lights everywhere. Indoor area is also great. If you go upstairs there are at least 7 pool tables and a free jukebox machine so you can get your groove on and dance like no one is watching (covid restrictions may apply)
Loving the new Taffy's bar. Great vibe, great service and some quality beers on tap. Feels like the perfect upgrade and I'm looking forward to seeing the back bar changes. The food we had was faultless, amazing quality and paired with fresh tasting beer. The basketball hoops did add a bit of noise during games and something that may need to be looked at.
Wow! I used to go to the Oaks Hotel every now and then when I lived in Neutral Bay three years ago and I wasn't particularly keen to eat there as the place was too big for me and just not inviting enough (except for the beergarden area). But I have changed my mind after having visted it recently! They have refurbished the entire hotel and it looks much more inviting now. The interior is very modern and trendy now but hasn't lost its charme. It's a family-owned business, providing high-quality food (the Scotch beefsteak is just incredible!) and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The place is so big that you could get lost in there as they do have a very inviting outdoors area (great for summer nights with friends!), a bar, a bottle shop, a large restaurant area, another bar/lounge and more rooms upstairs. The place is good for a family night out or after work drinks. The car parking situation around the hotel can be a bit tricky, you might have to find a spot in an alley somewhere further down and walk up there but if you are planning to drink, you shouldn't drive anyway ;-)
Really lovely beer garden. The large tree in the centre that is covered with fairy lights really lightens the atmosphere. It's a very family oriented place. Lots of young and old groups. Everyone is welcome. Good food. It can get busy in the evening, so booking a table is a good idea. Meals prices start at about $25. Good beer selection too. Great place to meet mates for a drink and a meal.
Atmosphere and food is great, but staff is rude and very not accomodating. We were told tables are all reserved when in fact tables insides are still very much empty! Maybe next time she advise customers about availability, its better to be sure and check first!
Good parking, excellent range of food and beer, spatious and conveniently located (along a major public transport route). Only 10 minutes from Wynyard by bus :-)
Definitely one for the white private school boys, their Dads and people who enjoy rugby people company. It's a great venue but customers lack diversity.
There is an oak tree, it has fairy lights in place of acorns! Bring your chick here for romance/ come here for chicks, there're plenty, looking for romance. Eat the rotisserie chicken, it tastes of romance.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, delicious food & a fantastic beer garden. Perfect for Sunday afternoon catch ups with friends. A must to try if ever in the area.
The Best Hotel/Pub in Australia with The Best steaks and food. A squilion Beers to choose from and a very impressive Wine selection. Without a doubt the cleanest Pub in Australia too. 6 Stars from me.
The people on dishes don t get fed enough and the young blokes with quaffed hair you put on as bar managers or whoever the guys are with blue shirts on are weird because they always ask me if I m alright like it s some mental health awareness day. Get the secies to swap with the Baywatch management. At least they re funny...
Great food fresh and menu is always changing with specials on the board. Lots of choices for wine and other drinks. Always a great date idea with all the fairy lights in the courtyard. Good for large groups and family meals too.
Great atmosphere, fantastic selection of Beers, good portion dishes. Really enjoyed watching State of Origin at their sports bar. Pool lovers, make sure you check out their pool tables upstairs!
Their courtyard with the lighting decorations on the giant tree makes a perfect place for catch up gatherings or date night with your favourite one.
Food was 2 1/2 hrs late and served cold we with no apology. Literally had to speak to the manager multiple times and at one point had to wait 20 minutes to get my money refunded. Other then that venue is still great
Really like this place for catch ups and sometimes for sports events. I wish they would have sound for the outdoor TV when there are major events such as Aus Open. Other than that, I love the fairy lit oak tree and the fun and games happening on the 2nd floor of the place. The oaks is very close to the city and is easy to get to via Bus as well.
Huge venue with a menu to match. Come here for the steaks - they've got their own in house butcher along with the option to cook your own steaks, quite the meat lovers experience!
But of an institution. Always a good spot, and a bar for every occasion. Also has one of the best (/only) beer gardens on the Lower North Shore. Only drawback is the price - not the cheapest bar in town.
Lovely staff, cool atmosphere but not somewhere with good food. Its a pub at the end of the day, over priced menu for well below average food. I paid $34 for a scotch fillet that was a terrible cut majority fat. The "grilled" chicken burger was $23 and was two tiny bits of deep fried chicken, like kfc but more expensive and without the finger licking goodness.
I will not eat hear again but it is a good place to have a beer and play the pokies. "Not a place if your a foodie!!
The Oaks is a real gem on the lower North shore, they continue to surprise me with their impressive range of beers, nowhere else short of one of the breweries in the city or beaches has as good of a beer selection. The food is pricey but you are paying for the wonderful location and quality.
Great food ( prawn pizza my fave ), great atmosphere and the fairy lights on the oak tree never get tired. This place continues to be a top place on the north side of the Bridge
The public bar on the ground floor is a bit of a barn of a place - though nicely renovated. However, upstairs, there are several small bars (available for private functions) which are quirky and a great venue for a birthday, engagement, whatever.
I was rather annoyed after calling ahead to check the closing time of the kitchen, only to be told when ordering meals for our family, that 80% of the menu was unavailable. No steaks at all was the comment, whilst a refrigerated cabinet had two large slabs of beef in cryovac staring at me. Frankly the staff attitude was indifferent. I opted out, the other members of the family took the only thing on offer, burgers and my 4 year old daughter asked for the kids pizza, specifically without ham.... after half an hour, the pizza arrived loaded with ham, the staff member asking "you asked for no ham right? Oh, do we have to redo it?" The burgers the others ate were burnt, dry etc. That's what you get when the patty is frozen.
If this is one of the best that Sydney has to offer, my heart goes out to those in NSW, you are being taken advantage of.
Note the colour and quality of chips, if you can't get that right, it's time to sell up, perhaps the owners need a break after 40 years, as this is nothing more than embarrassing.
EDIT- when leaving at around 10:50pm, the security (bouncer) commented to himself (and anyone within a good 10m).... When will they all just go home.
That certainly caps off my experience at The Oaks, while I wouldn't expect more at a Woolworths hotel, at least it would cost half as much
FURTHER EDIT
You'll see below a "comment from owner". I left my phone number with them via Facebook, I did not receive a response by phone, however did receive this via Facebook, clearly this establishment is not interested in improving a customers experience.
