Great experience. Hotel staff very accommodating. Convenient location in Koreatown.
Very old school cool. Clean. Central to everything that is to LA. Great location.
Wonderful time. Better than we expected we even extended our stay by 2days. Very friendly staff who greeted us as we entered the lobby every time we left or came back. They suggested great things to do in the area. We are very familiar with the L A area but it was nice to know they offered information. The Restaraunt located in the lobby next door AMAZING PATTY MELT EVER!!!
Staff service one was above & beyond Erik, others were high on grave and listened to their disrespectful music on an OVERPRICED ROOM NOISY FACING NOISY STREET ON 2ND FLOOR FOR 250+ 58.82 IN PAKG PER NITE???? NOT WORTH IT BIG ERROR ON BOOKING. Valet crew are average gym is NOT on prop. Breakfast crew didnt understand plain simple.english, needed that. Iam bit bilingual married to an Asian person so I am not critical but let's get comm in training more effective for the pYing guests who over pay for EITTING CARPET ON LOBBY FLOOR AND OLD STUFF.
RMS UPDATED FOR FOR3 NIGHTS HOT WATER WAS ON A ROLL EVERTIME EVERY 2 MINUTES. PLACE NEEDS SERIOUS HELP.
GUYS, Beds and lined dont repair the dilapidated building and infrastrucutre.
Then dont charge high prices if you cannot afford updates repairs and replacements.
Get your sg*t together. Old style Normandie FR or Not. Thx Erik for taking care of errors even I his break. Only Professiknal I saw in 3 days. Others flaky and students bbn on phone Millenials, are world is going to FALL not rise decades from now. Too lazy too much screen time too.much emotional.
NOT ever returning, travel owl and Yelp next
Terrible customer service! No phone in the room! No coffee! Old and ugly rooms! One star to this place, no more! I would even give them 0!!!
This is my 100th review and I wanted to pick a really special place for it, and I think NightLife at the Cal Academy definitely deserves this spot! I've been coming to this museum ever since I was little and I have always loved it. I remember the huge shark tank from the old museum that I was always so dreadfully scared of but also so intrigued by. That was probably my favorite exhibit from when I was a kid. But the renovated museum looks amazing
In the heart of Koreatown, the best location if you want to be near the best Korean stores and food. Couldn't complain about the rooms either.
This review is long overdue.
Took a spontaneous trip to LA for my birthday in April and booked this place on Hotel Tonight. Only $69 for a beautiful room. I truly felt bad as I felt I was robbing them.
Shout out to ...I'm sorry I don't know your name bit for some reason want to call you Jesse - at the front desk! Taller black guy I thought was Caribbean but was born and raised in LA. You were amazing.
Maybe your name was James...
I booked this hotel for relaxation time before the bar exam and I had a great time. It was supremely clean, had a great aesthetic, in a great location, and the staff was great (seriously great!). Restaurants and bars nearby were so convenient and awesome. My only complaint is that the Normandie Club, a bar below the hotel, made my room pretty loud with the thumping of music, but I would still return.
No parking area, YOU have to pay valet parking which is $32.00, you can hear the traffic outside your room. There is no where to park, in the streets u can but have to be gone by 7 AM. Bed and room was adequate, bed was super comfy, room was nicely arranged. Won't come back, that is why the room was cheaper, whatever the special add valet.
Small rooms, but cute and a lovely lobby. And two USB power outlets by the bed!
Clean and hospitable. In the middle of known and within walking distance to everything. Parking is $32.
Felt like staying in history. The wine reception was cool.
Great location and nearby some tasty places to eat, Cassels and several Korean restaurants across the street. Valet is convenient but expensive ($32/day). Rooms are cool restored 20's and 30's. This is like a Kimpton hotel with a "mom and pop" feel.
It does have some cons though. The breakfast is very basic continental. You can't connect a Chromecast to the TV. It has an odd smell. Huge hallways lead to surprisingly small rooms.
The hotel is 100 years old and still timelessly beautiful with the upgrades to structure as required by law. Very clean looking hotel and rooms with good customer service. Everything else still the same, like the slow style elevator. If those walls could talk, I wonder the stories. There is Cassell's downstairs with food and drinks, it's alright. The hotel has free wine tasting in the evening and continental breakfast in the morning. The carrot or banana bread they have is delicious! I would definitely recommend staying here.
Cosy, nice decor, and fantastic staff. Thanks especially to CJ for the hospitality and letting me feel really taken care of, as a hotel guest.
Easily one of the worst experiences with hotels I've ever had, coming from someone who lives out of hotels. The customer service when the room keys stopped working was 30min+. People were quite literally yelling in the hallways until approximately 1am. If you're on the 2nd floor you get the privlidge of getting to hear people in the bar talking and yelling until bar close. Don't like it and want to sleep? The people that work here don't care. Parking is impossible, so you get the privilege of paying 35 bucks a night to park valet, no option, unless you're willing to walk 2 or more miles. The valet damaged my rental car by curbing it, so rash on the wheels, but they're not responsible... So if you stay here you WILL pay several hundred more to the rental company. There is no insulation in the walls so you'll hear everything. The people that were in my room smoked, but it's a non smoking hotel, so if you have allergies and asked to be moved, you can go screw yourself according to the staff here. If you want a great example of terrible customer service come here. If you want a hotel that you don't hate with every fiber of your exhausted being, go somewhere else. This is the first establishment that I've ever reviewed online, so I hope I convey my frustration and anger of this horrible place in these words. Don't go here. Ever. Find another hotel. Like a motel 7, where you can sleep at night. Or in your car, where this hotel can't get to your car to damage it. Anywhere else.
Valet parking or street parking. That is the only problem. I was there for a baptism
On of the best locations for a hotel with a really good restaurant and really good bar next door. Amazing.
The hotel is located in Korean town so it's really convenient for anyone who likes Korea. Room was a bit small but very lovely. I was in the 2nd floor room and my room didn't really have a good view. Room was nice and clean. The bed is pretty nice. Room service is pretty good. Lots of amenities, bottles of water and towels, new ones everyday. The hotel lobby is so classical and lovely, nicest place in the hotel to hangout. They have 2 small pianos if you know how to play :). Free breakfasts every morning. No parking and valet is $32/ night, pretty pricey. We parked on nearby street and woke up like 8am in the morning to go pay for the meter lol. Hotel has WiFi but it's really unstable. Next to hotel is a cafe, pretty cute but I haven't tried it yet. And a barber shop too haha. There's also a small restaurant owned by the hotel. There is a chef will cook for you right in front of you. 8 course meal. Menu depends on the market. And you have to make a reservation online. It's nice to try.
Stayed here back in October 2019. Really lovely place with brilliant service. We hadn't been to the area before and the people at the front desk were great with advice on where to go. Breakfast was average but we had Cassels next door so we could grab a bite there. Would definitely recommend this hotel and we hope to go back one day. Room was small but still lovely, enough space for a couple.
Very healthy & clean Continental breakfast. Water & ice machines on every floor. Very convenient to public transportation & lots of great food nearby
Nice rooms and great staff. The building was noisy.
Small, old rooms. $30 valet is the only option for parking.
Hotel very nice walls lack a bit of sound insulation!
Rich breakfast!
Bottle of water at will only inconvenience mandatory parking with valet at $ 38 a day.
Historic hotel built in the late 1920s. Clean, excellent staff and always available. Nice furnishings. Spacious room with a comfortable bed.
Great little spot. I was skeptical about a Groupon purchase but the hotel is well appointed the bathroom is lovely and clean
Nice building and rooms. Showers talk enough for a 6'8" person to not have to bend over to use. Staff can be forgetful when calling for car or getting additional toiletries.
Perfect location 5 min to metro breakfast ok room ok
This is a great old style hotel that has been recently updated. The staff is very friendly, and the rooms are very clean. I had a small issue with my heater, but the staff jumped to get it resolved. Overall, a great place to stay.
Cozy atmosphere and good drinks, but they were a bit pricey and service took a long time
My recent stay at Hotel Normandie was wonderful, from check-in through leaving. The front desk staff was friendly and polite, there were smiles on their faces from the moment I walked through the door until I turned to walk away. The hotel is gorgeous. High ceilings throughout the lobby, gorgeous carved wood, I asked the front desk clerk about it and was told that it is original, hand carved wood that hasn't been replaced. My room was much larger than expected. The king sized bed was so comfortable I didn't want to get up from it! If you are particular about your mattress and pillows you will love this hotel! The room and bathroom were both immaculately clean. I was allowed to stay until 1 pm the following day, which was very appreciated. I would reccomened the hotel to anyone looking to stay downtown.
Everything is good, but breakfast is not as good as the size of the hotel.
No wardrobe and bad window view, but great tv, bed and shower. All staff were nice and gentile. Location good, near the purple metro line and bus stops.
Great Lobby atmosphere, rooms were comfortable, clean, and fair priced. Enjoyed my stay, will book again when staying in K-town.
This place was very clean and nice. The staff were wonderful and the vintage design was absolutely beautiful. I will definitely be back soon!
The beds were so comfortable. The room was clean. The staff were great. I will definitely be staying here again.
Great boutique hotel in K-town! The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were a bit small, but clean and comfy. Because it's an old building with wood floors, sound travels easily. We used a white-noise app to cut down on the outside noise and it worked pretty well. Overall good stay!
Exterior architecture is nice but interior floors need replacing including elevator floors. Interior narrow hallways were plain white and carpet was a dull color. Room doors were also cheap looking wood.
Old bathtubs, tile and toilets appear permanently stained in second floor rooms and also need replacing! I was appalled at the overall condition especially since paying $230 plus a night! Tiny bathrooms too.
Rooms on street side are noisy from traffic. I was shown a few other rooms to find a quiet er one and was hoping to find a renovated bathroom but settled for one with a stained bathtub but replaced wall tile at least.
Bellhop, valet, and check in staff were courteous but need to wear nice uniforms instead of casual wear. Their attire made me wonder if the valet etc. were actual employees at first.
Rooms lacked dressers and bathroom counter space. However I did appreciate the long separate vanity counter with a chair.
Amenities lacked the usual shower cap, sewing kit, and bathrobe.
I would have been happier at the nearby Best Western my sister used as it had free parking and decent bathrooms.
Valet service/parking is outrageous at about $35/night and the valet doesn't even open the passenger door for ladies!
Included breakfast was in a nice dining hall but selection was sparse with only orange juice, coffee and tea beverages. Yogurt, cold hard boiled eggs, instant oatmeal & fruit was ok. Couldn't find salt and pepper for my egg.
Only one type of slightly dry muffin and loaf bread along with other bread for toast. Overall disappointed as there was no danish, bagels, hot chocolate, and cranberry juice.
One of my favorite hotels in LA. Nice historic building on Normandie in Koreatown. Great service. Only complaint is that it can get a little loud at night with the bars and activity below.
Very nice, boutique Hotel in the heart of Korea Town. Right near everything. Very cute, with excellent amenities and service. Features robes and slippers in your room. Breakfast is included with your stay. The lobby is very comfortable and has an "Old Hollywood" or "Film Noir" feel to it. The staff is extremely responsive to the needs of all guests. The beds are comfortable. The view is great! Overall, The Hotel Normandy is truly a wonderful Hotel that made my trip to L.A. even nicer.
Warm, lovely, clean hotel in convenient location with reasonable rates and one-stop amenities (valet, food, drinks). Our phone lost Internet connection (no GPS) and Eric, at the front desk, stayed with us by phone with directions (alternately, while checking in guests) until we arrived (warm welcome). Priceless.
Cheap, great location, great food. Bathrooms could be better
My favorite Los Angeles, CA hideout. A gem, a secret, a little of Europe hidden in plain sight. Tiny rooms, gorgeous vintage shared baths, most reasonable prices.
Nice ambience, very vintage / rustic feel. Rooms however are bare bones (no closets, just an open hanging rack in the room. No iron /ironing table (although staff was very helpful in providing these when asked). Fixtures look old but rooms are clean. Location is good in terms of access to downtown area (drivable in 20 mins). No self parking, valet parking is required and will cost additional $32 per night (not included in room cost). Also the hotel is located in (or bordering) Koreatown... Great if you like Korean food / groceries too.
The location is near the Metro (subway) and bus station in Koreatown. The inside of the hotel is old but clean.
Breakfast includes continental (bread, boiled eggs, fruits, etc.). There is also a donut king in the neighborhood. On the other hand, there is nothing other than Korean food in the surrounding area, and the atmosphere is hard to say. Local tours also did not fall in downtown, so they were charged extra for pick-up.
If you travel by car, or if you travel by metro or bus, it is recommended because the price is reasonable.
You can reach Santa Monica Beach by subway once from the purple line to the light blue line, or by bus with the 720 Rapid bus at $ 1.75.
Rooms are very cozy, the employees there took very care of me and listened to my needs. At an affordable price here at LA nonetheless.
Friendly staff, complimentary continental breakfast, but the paper thin walls and the traffic noise coming from 6th Street made our stay not as great as it could have been. I would recommend it only based on the price.
The rooms were very small and the heater wasn't working or not working well. Otherwise it was clean and the breakfast was pretty good for what it was! Unfortunately... One H&S issue I saw - photo attached.
I enjoyed my stay. The room had great views of the Mississippi river! The beds were extremely comfortable. The room was quiet and no external noise
Free breakfast and wine! Rooms a bit outdated but has a nice charm to it. Location is excellent.
It's not as nice as it looks on line but the staff is great!
Service was great!! Loved the staff! Could use new mattresses. Loved the shower heads!
This is one of the coolest hotels I've ever stayed at. The service is amazing, the rooms are very clean and well kept, and the location is really cool as well. Tons of great places nearby! Even the small diner on the corner has some amazing cocktails and great desserts! I cant say enough about this hotel, it's awesome!
I thought the hallways and rooms had a musty smell. I like the decor and that there is random seating sprinkled throughout. Love the lobby. But razor thin walls mean that you can hear your neighbors. Awkward outlets that aren't travel and mobile friendly. Poor lighting and lack of sunlight makes it feel more claustrophobic. Sizeable bathroom with great water pressure. No attention paid to the breakfast bar -- had run out of utensils without a staff person in sight.
Very great experience. I love how it made you feel you were in the 1920's! Rooms were very clean and staff was very friendly. Also, the connected restaurant, "Cassell's", makes one of the best hamburgers you will ever have! Highly recommend!
Staff is always pleasant. Love that I can grab a bite to eat before I head out the door
The place is great. An old hotel that has been updated. The staff is amazing. Very clean, beds are very comfortable and room is very cozy. 1 star off because they miss a few simple things, like no safe in the rooms, and no in room coffee machine. And bring your own toilet paper, what they put in is high quality fine grit sand paper.
Used to more modern hotels, so not a fan of Hotel Normandie. We can hear everything off the street, very nosy. Won t stay here again. Only positive is the staff is nice.
The place is historic but in need of some furniture repair. Was noisy at night. There was a group of kids who stay but could have been told to be more subtle and quieter and not bounce their basketball in the hallway at 1am in the morning. It fesible for transportation.
I went to the wrong door and my key somehow worked. That's the story of my first threesome.
Rooms were just fine, first time in LA service was just fine
I really appreciated the friendly staff, clean rooms, and continental breakfast.
The hotel has a modern feel mixed with some vintage decor. Everything about our room is very nice, as it should be. The complimentary breakfast and wine tasting in the afternoon is a little more than its expected.
Room did not have a closet, no furniture with drawers. Room had a small rack on wall with 3 hangers! Outside of that, OK.
I stayed here in AUG2012 and they were undergoing renovations. The entrance is awesome, you can see the character from the earlier days and they are keep the theme which is great. I can see 1920s weddings and events being held here once they are complete. The rooms are basic as well, this is not your fancy modern day hotel, this is your classic style hotel with a bed and a bathroom. I liked the location and it was close to other events I had to attend. I can see myself staying here again when I need that escape from the hustle and bustle of tech overwhelming. The staff was nice and rates were cheap. Good to see they are keeping this place in style with the original!
We stayed here for 3 nights last week. It was very clean and the staff was great. However we scheduled the room 6 months prior to our arrival and received a room much smaller than the website advertised that was literally under the stairs. We also paid for a king size bed and this room had a very small queen. I measured and there queen is not the size of a traditional queen size mattress according to Google and definitely not fit for two full size adults. The staff admitted they did mess up the bed size however they were unable to give us a new room or a refund of any kind. I was told I could talk to the manager who was not there. Would not recommend.
Great location... good service.... pretty good value, room was a bit small with no closet.
