Love it as it is now of course but excited for the renovations, too! Also, one of the few museums that offered the free memberships with the NYC ID to actually give you a membership card so you feel truly like a member.

A truly world class art museum. Full of amenities (lots of bathrooms, food, two gift shops, accessibility friendly, free coat/bulky items check), and above all, amazing art thoughtfully curated. Pro tip: your ticket also grants entry into their MoMA PS1 satellite location (a hidden gem in Queens) within the same week. Friday nights are free.
The place is nice Full of amazing art But the bad thing about this place is the security. This one time I accidentally walked a bit close to a portrait and one security guard shouted out DON T TOUCH IT and started a scene and even had the nerve to target my friends and teacher (by the way it was a class trip) She didn t need to yell or cause a scene, I know she was doing her job but that wasn t necessary, she could have said Sir you re to close And I would have moved but beside that the museum was great.
We thoroughly enjoyed the 5th floor but the other 5 floors were very boring for us. It was worth the money only because we got the student discount. As a side note I was a fine arts major.
The museum building and its colletcion is outstanding. It feels alive with different classes and activities thruoutght the day.The cafe on the 5th floor has great small plates.
Impressive pieces of art. Went during the free hours on Friday evening. Very confusing layout. Helpful staff. But what's your issue with water bottles? What's wrong with drinking while walking? Also very stuffy inside.
I love the NY moma. It s big. It has nice modern arts and classics like Monet and Van Gogh collections. We also was right in time for a dancing performance.
Great place, art is absolutely beautiful, my only comment is if they had more hands on activities for kids and adults. Maybe i missed it because its huge but from what i saw they only have a very small area to sit and draw. Staff very nice and professional, very helpful. Beautiful place to go alone or if u know someone special to you loves art!
One of my favorite museums in NYC. A lot of expensive and old drawings and art work. Definitely recommended for anyone who wants to enjoy few hours of their time in the city.
This is truly one of the crown jewels of NYC rich or poor you come here and will see artwork and sculpture you blown away the place it self is a piece of Art.. No more excuses come alone come with 10 friends . this should be number one on your bucket list.
The cost to visit is not cheap especially when you go and see that modern art is not really your thing. But if you are a fan of modern art (think an old snow shovel hanging from a ceiling ) then it is worth the price.
If you expect weird... nonsense... great. You found your place. If not... the other museums in town, American History for instance, may be a better experience.
Money and van Gogh excibitions were awesome, but 2 of 3 floors of paintings were unavailable. No information about that during buying of tickets, price the same like with full availability. A little bit disappointing.
amazing experience if you love art , gift shop, coffee and the atmosphere. was surprised its just off the street, otherwise a day well spent in this atmospheric place
Perfect place to spend a few hours and expose yourself to the evolving "modern art" scene. For maximum enjoyment, visit one or two featured exhibits and leave (avoiding art-viewing fatigue).
I couldn't finish the whole museum in one day. I think it will take about few days.. maybe a week to take time and look at everything in there. I would like to visit there again for sure !
Loads to see. You will spend several hours trying to see everything. I recommend starting at the top floor and working your way down. The top floor took us the longest to get through because of all the art.
Amazing place! Nice cafes except they need to have more comfortable seating. Crowds really get heavy by about 3 in the afternoon on a Friday afternoon you have to wait 10 or 15 minutes just to see the van Gogh Starry Night and there's rings of people 15 deep around it. But it's still a wonderful place to visit.
"Starry Night" by Van Gough was the highlight and just seeing that made the trip valuable. There were way too many men/women in suit, they need to chill a little and let the kids enjoy the museum too.
The MOMA is an amazing museum. Great place to spend the day, with so many different pieces of art to see. Plus, ages 16 and under are free. However, this is not the museum to take young children since they will get bored easily. I recommend the MOMA for ages 13+.
I'm not the museum enthusiast type but i really liked this one. It exhibits so many different kinds and types of modern art that you'll definitely find something you like.
In Friday nights they have special events for adults (serving alcoholic beverages) and the entrance is free.
I enjoyed it, probably will be better when it's finished in October. Very busy but it was raining outside, seeing starry night was gross with everyone around you but that's no surprise. The contempary art bit was very good.
5ve Floor "SPECTACULAR", others are "ok". Their employees very knowledgeable and helpful. A must go place in NY. After 5pm is creasy the amount of peaple; going early is well worth paying for admission
Exceptional! When family and friends visit I enjoy taking them and each time seems like the first. If you have the opportunity I highly recommend visiting the museum.
You can't go wrong with the MoMa. That is a bit of construction going on as they are doing a large expansion but that doesn't get in the way of a nice experience.
Not so great. I mean yeah I had some higher expectations for it, but still. They have some well known pieces, by artists such as Van Gogh, Picasso, Warhol, Dali, Matisse, Rousseau, and other well known artists. The special exhibit at the time (July 2017) was Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture pieces. Overall, it was pretty underwhelming. I rarely found myself intrigued by anything, which is rare for me when I go to art museums. Maybe it's just that I don't relate to that particular art. And it wasn't well organized either. They have 3 gift shops with varying items (overkill, unnecessary). The selection is pretty good. It wasn't too crowded for what I had expected. The line goes by quickly. The courtyard is beautiful. The student discount of $9 ($25 to $14) is really nice. I really don't understand the hype about this place.
Very large and spacious museum that is packed with cool exhibits and work of art. Some pieces are unique and hard to avoid. Sculptures are impressive and collections overall are awesome. Money well spend and worth your time. Recommend.
I have a bit of trouble relating to much of the exhibits that pass as "art" but admittedly this is a different experience for each individual. I do appreciate this creation as a whole, definitely. One thing that could be improved upon is clearer directions throughout. Some of the exit signs actually oppose each other which could actually prove dangerous in a panic situation such as a fire.
A tiring but worthwhile afternoon. Guidance system could be better but overall more than surprised. Be sure to visit the MOMA Design Store across the street.
If you enjoy art, then MoMA is a must! MoMA is a well laid out, easy to navigate, space with incredible works from Van Gough, Picasso, and Warhol among many others! If you're into art, I would leave yourself 3 to 4 hours to visit.
Don't forget to visit "The Starry Night" and "Gold Marilyn Monroe" while there.
4 out of 5 stars simply because the elevators weren't working the day I visited. This is important because I'm physically disabled and require a wheelchair sometimes. Was pretty dissapointing to pay for price for a ticket and only see a fraction of the museum.
There is nothing quite like seeing Starry Night in person. Every piece here is a delight, and although there are a few that can be a bit confusing, I still highly recommend trying to find meaning in every one of them. Or don't, it is entirely up to you. I will say save your money to eat outside of the Museum as there isn't a single cheap thing available.
I went here in 2009 the first time and my how it has changed. At least triple the size and so many new artists show . What I loved about my trip today was that they really showed up with more artists of color and female artists. It s about time!
I also saw my favorite painter represented and that just brought tears to my eyes. Thank you MOMA for making such a spectacular, iconic city spot for literally the entire world to admire art.
Super busy, if you don t like crowds I would not recommend this place. It s extremely accessible but beware the amount of bumping into other people you will encounter. Not everyone knows how to walk appropriately. Also at this time in fashion trends, chunky black boots and flared capris seem to be all the rage. So yes the art on the wall is amazing but the rich artistry of the museum-goers is worth admiring as well.
The temporary showings we saw weren't very impressive, but once you get to the top floor, the number of masterpieces is very impressive. I'd go 4 stars, but I visited the Philadelphia Museum of Art after the MoMA and frankly it was a much better experience. Still, a must see as an art fan if you're visiting NYC.
Like any other art exhibit. The staff is helpful and the price is good. I went on a Saturday and it was pretty crowded, but not so much I couldn't see the art or move around.
It's a museum dedicated to Modern art - which to be honest sometimes I don't get - but it also has some great pieces of Van Gogh, Monet, Warhol, among others. It has 6 floors and you can see all of them in about 2 hours. Normal fare is of 25 usd but on Fridays' afternoon is free, sponsored by Uniqlo. You most go to Monet's room (512).
The art pieces here are amazing! I visited on a Friday afternoon so there was a bit if a crowd (not sure if it was for the Uniqlo event or not). Despite the crowd, the whole atmosphere was really nice and I enjoyed it a lot!
Quoting a friend, A lot of arts from the textbook we ve used growing up!
It was an interesting museum. There was one painting that I did not enjoy due to the artist celebrating the freedom of the kkk. However they had great pieces and artwork overall. I went on a day that was ridiculously crowded.
Start where ever you like, there is amazing talent to discover everywhere. But plan your excursion so as to take a break and enjoy the excellent dining facilities. Then go back and enjoy some more art, be sure to leave enough time to throughly survey Monet's "Water Lillies." Return as often as possible.
Awesome museum. I can't remember if I went through everything or not, I think it's a museum you can get done in a day. Decent student discount too. They have a cafe and a place to hold your coat and bag. Modern applies to its architecture as well. The gorgeous aesthetic boggles my mind
Over 1/3rd of the Gallery was closed, line up was long, the gallery was so busy, you could not enjoy many of the paintings. Most of the galleries did not have walk through access, so you had to wade through hundreds and hundreds of people to get out. I was there 25 years ago and was extremely impressed. This visit, MOMA felt like they had lost their way. The current photography exhibition was un-inspired and lacked a collective theme. One of the main reasons we visited NYC was for MOMA, but was by far the worst art experiences we had in our week long trip.
Some good exhibits, but also some chaff. Not too busy, but some sections were closed due to refurbishment. Walked round the whole thing at a leisurely pace in about 4 hours.
There are so many famous paintings here, most notably Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh!! There are many wonderful works by Pablo Picasso. I also enjoyed works by Henri Matisse, Henri Rousseau, Paul Cezanne and many more. There are three large wall panels of Water Lilies by Claude Monet.
Know someone that works in the area? They will most likely be able to hook you up with free admission passes. This museum is a huge tourist attraction so expect huge crowds and long waits. Check Google's "Popular Times" before heading over.
