The food was absolutely horrible. It all tastes like cardboard, flavorless & dry. I cannot fathom how anyone would eat here or give it a good review. There's absolutely no redeeming quality to this place except for the waiter who was understanding. Spare yourself and go get some real food.

The food and service was amazing. Even though they were busy, one of the owners still took time to stop by our table to see how we liked everything (1st time there). The portions are HUGE and their fries are especially amazing!
I asked the waiter on the phone who took my order numerous times if the food was going to be cooked to ordered and low and behold my food was not fresh whatsoever! Won t be back!! Literally this is the second location I gave s chance!
Long wait which we were told was normal. the food itself plain bland. My wife and I both ordered biscuits and gravy, a safe order. With a pancake to split. The everything was overcooked and the gravy had no flavor to it.
A big hearty breakfast. I went here twice in a week.
I recommend the biscuits and gravy. Gently spicy, very tasty, big portions. In addition, you get a plateful of hash browns and scrambled eggs.
I've seen the "Yo-Halla on the town" which looks like an incredibly rich piece of French toast stuffed with fruit and filling and heard it described as "The best french toast I've ever had".
I went to Metro diner twice while in Jacksonville, FL. On my first trip I had waffles and fried chicken, which was pretty good. I also had cheesy grits. Starting with the chicken and waffles, the chicken was a little wet for me but very flavorful. The waitress asked if I wanted to try their sauce that goes over the chicken, I agreed and it was very delicious. I was a little hesitant when she told me the mixture but it was really good on the fried chicken. For the waffles, I did not try the strawberry butter, however, I wish I had. But the waffle was OK with regular butter. The grits, cheesy grits were standard for restaurants. I don t understand why restaurants do not cook grits in salted water. It s very hard to season grits after they have cooked. The portions were very generous for my meal I had a half of chicken and a waffle. my friend, which had the chicken biscuit commented that her food was good. Service on this visit was OK.
Second trip, was a very different experience. Both my order and my friends order was wrong in portions of both orders had to be sent back. On this trip I ordered a breakfast consisted of pancakes, eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and biscuit . I had to cinnamon bun pancakes, which were really good. I did not try the biscuit since I ate pancakes. My eggs came out runny when I asked for them to be fried hard, so I had to send them back. When they brought the second set of eggs and they were cooked fine. The hashbrowns even though they came with grilled onions lacked flavor but we re pretty much average in my opinion. My friend, ordered a veggie omelette, a side of bacon, hashbrowns and cheesy grits. she received fried potatoes instead of hashbrowns, and she had to ask for her bacon three times. One of the servers told her to work on the potatoes and they would get her some hashbrowns which cane after her meal as well as the bacon coming once she had completed her meal. By this point she didn t want either and didn t touch the fried potatoes because it was not what she wanted or she would ve ordered them. she also mentioned the grades were too runny for her.
Overall, I think the food is good but the service needs a little work. The servers were not rude and seemed eager to resolve issues. they were just a little slow at doing so.
They are known for their chicken and waffles which are a must try. The spicy maple syrup makes the dish. My favorite is the veggie omelet, which is big enough for two meals. I also love their salads. The coffee is also really good and locally roasted.
Place was pretty packed, but was seated quickly. Make sure you beat the church crowd, location gets super busy once they let out. I don't remember our waiters name, but his service was amazing. Honestly, the best service I can remember in a long time. The Food was alright. I ordered the steak & eggs. The steak was cooked well, just wasn't seasoned. My girlfriend ordered the cornbeef hash and enjoyed it.
First time going there and it was amazing !! The waitress was so sweet and informative. She helped my 6 yo make his own breakfast plate. They were definitely but it didnt feel like it at all, out food came out fast and fresh with a smile.
OMG I tried the breakfast pizza because I saw it get delivered to another table. It is the best breakfast thing I have ever eaten. Even the leftovers were amazing after I popped them under the broiler for a few minutes. Metro Diner is on of the things that makes Jacksonville great.
There needs to be a kids breakfast option with pancakes (sugar optional), eggs and side (grits, toast). I had to order the kid platter plus a side pancake and ended up paying more for a kids meal then our adult meal. Half of it wasn't eaten because he doesnt eat meat often. Also, had to wait over 5 minutes for the waitress to come back to ask for grape jelly and a refill. She wasn't friendly and was very to the point. Overall, everything was just good.
Also, while waiting.. I noticed the computer on the cook line near the glass has a TON of yucky looking grease stuck to it. I watched the cook touch the food, cut chicken up then touch the computer without changing gloves. So gross. Then he looked around and ate a couple fries under the heating lamp.
I rated this restaurant 2 stars because the meal was made in hasty and cavalier manner and was returned...twice. Additionally, the waitress did not seem to care about providing good customer service. However, the manager appeared and ensured the meal prepared in a way that was both appetizing and appealing. It's just sad it took 3 times and some managerial intervention for a nice lunch.
I recently ordered the BLT to go. I was very hungry and the sandwich was, needless to say, delicious. However, the bread was very lightly toasted, and the BLT was some what lack luster and in my opinion weren t the quality ingredients that I expected. I have had the meatloaf on several occasions and it is worthy of four stars too. I have never dined inside the restaurant, and that may make a big difference. Overall, I will eat there again.
Obviously this place already has a ton of great reviews and I have nothing different to offer. The breakfast was delicious, though the hash browns were so-so. They were nice and crispy but had no seasoning whatsoever, not even salt. If you add ketchup, hot sauce or salt and pepper you'll be good to go. Overall I would absolutely go there again and I definitely recommend it.
Freaking amazing chicken and waffles. The price is a little up there but you get tons of food!! We were visiting Jacksonville for the day and stumbled upon this place by chance. Will definitely be eating here again when we re back in town.
Makayla was an amazing server and made our experience even better!
Tremendous service even at the height of rush, high quality quickly served food, super diligent and high energy managment. The combination speaks for itself. Iam impressed as always. The only problem is how to make room for the generous portions. Come hungry.
This location is actually one of the biggest metro diners I ve visited. I love all of their unique food. I recommend going early because the line is usually out the door. All food is served all day long.
