We had a wonderful lunch for my mother's birthday on June 5...I had the special of the day, which was a salmon croquette on a bed of greens....very unique, I absolutely loved it, and am still thinking about how good it was. It was fun to read about the history and visit the gift store, and the grounds/gardens were absolutely beautiful. The new parking lot is a great addition.

Awesome tea and great people. We had the Queen of Hearts tea and tried the Divine Temple, Royal Wedding, and Seasonal Punch. The scones were fantastic. The lavender orange scone was interesting and had the sharp taste of lavender. The whipped cream, lemon curd, and orange marmalade were all good (no clotted cream). The lemon curd was our favorite, and I felt like the marmalade could have been a bit more bitter since they put orange peel in it. The savories were also good, with a nice blend of sweet and savory. Our favorite was the egg salad, though the bruschetta was particularly interesting. The combo of blueberry, brie, and basil was surprisingly tasty and the bread part was soft. For the tea, the Divine Temple was our favorite, with the Seasonal Punch coming in a close second. We didn't like the Royal Wedding very much. Our server was attentive and efficient, explaining how the tea worked and being quick with fetching us a new tea when we wanted one. This is definitely one we would come back to if we're in the area again. The decor was also interesting (fitting for an elegant mad hatter) and they have a gift shop upstairs we didn't visit. Be warned that if you want the tea, you should reserve in advance and the kitchen closes at 4pm. The price may seem like a lot, but it is worth it!

I ordered food off the menu and joined my group for tea as well. I ordered a vegan version of the veggie skillet, and it was delightful. Very well seasoned and a healthy portion. I asked for avocado as well; that was a tasty addition. The tea was fabulous and the server was so friendly and funny. I was happy that they were so accommodating to make their menu items vegan for my dietary needs. I would return.

My family and I love this place. We love Alice in Wonderland, of course, to it is fun to see the theme everywhere. We like good tea as well as scones; there is something for everybody here. We will come again.

Setting reservations over the phone was explained thoroughly. Notices for confirmations were sent a few days before as a friendly reminder. Arriving for our reservation was quick, we didn't have to wait for the staff to put a table together.

The restaurant is elegant and cozy! Plenty of natural lighting for that perfect picture tone. They also have porch seating, which was closed during this time of the year. This is a perfect place for a bridal party or special occasions with a group of girls.

Our waitress, Janelle, was super friendly and very thorough on explaining the menu and how things worked. Checked-in the tea services availability, incase we were interested. She checked in on us frequently to make sure we were happy with our food. Janelle provides us exceptional service!

The food was delicious! The portions are great; not overkill or leaving you hungry. We each had our own large mimosa with an additional $.50 we added our own scent to our brunch beverage. I had Lavender added, and couldn't taste it, but the mimosa was decent. I definitely want to return to try everything else.

Plenty of parking available on a Sunday early afternoon plus overflow parking nearby. You can't miss the restaurant on a busy main road.

I was in the area for business and stopped in for lunch. Great service and the food was amazing! I travel for work all over and this was one of my best meals, that I have had. Food was very tasteful and fresh. I had the coconut tea and I loved it. If I come back for work I will for sure come back here.

Mind-boggling experience! The food was wonderful but the tea is even better. I order their tea online and have never been disappointed. I can't wait for the pandemic to be over so we can go back!

Christmas tea was magical. The server was knowledgeable and willing to help a tea novice. Highly recommend and will definitely be back. A unique experience in a unique location well worth the visit. Stop in the gift shop to bring home your favorite tea.

My wife and I did their Valentine Dinner Special and it was delicious! One of the best places I've ever eaten. The staff was really nice as well. The meal was a four course and it was nice that they brought the food out at our pace instead of going by their pace like other places have. I highly recommend The Mad Hatter.

I gave them a hesitant 5 stars because I believe in general they have excellent food and I have always loved the Queen s tea which I have been to many times. However I DO NOT recommend as highly their CHRISTMAS tea. I am not sure why, but the desserts that they give you in the cute little box taste as though they have been stored for some period of time in a refrigerator or freezer. Honestly it is only the Christmas tea service where I have noticed this it was the same last year when we went for Christmas tea and I thought maybe it was an unfortunate but temporary problem however, apparently, it is a consistent issue. In the summer and the fall when I have had the Queen s Tea, I have always enjoyed everything including the little desserts. Their menu items look wonderful too although I have only ever had the high tea.

So go, ( especially with your granddaughter:) have fun, but maybe not so much at Christmas.

I met the owners and their son a month or so back at the 13 Gears Steampunk Convention. Last week my friend Sean and I headed to Anoka to visit them and visit the city. To our amazement the building is old and beautiful inside and out. The little things you find hidden in the lawn is fun. Little rabbits, tea pots and such. Bad luck for us there was not a seat available for hours. We could smell and see the food and what we saw made our mouths water. So we headed upstairs to the gift shop. I bought a Madhatter tea cup, Royal Wedding tea and Raspberry Patch tea. Oh and we ended up talking to the son and I believe her name is Liz or Lisa, for a long time. I add a bit of honey to both but even without the honey they are simply delicious. I will call ahead next time to reserve a seat. It s easy to find, great customer service and awesome tea. Next is to get my hands on some food. Go....you ll love it. Dress up or come casual. Tea.....it loves everybody.

Service was a little slow to start but after that was very good. The surroundings were cute and the food delicious. The royal wedding tea is one of the best I've tasted and is their own blend.

This is such an amazing place! I have had a bridal shower here. I have taken or met many people for brunch or lunch. I have had a few tea parties too. My sister from Indiana and I have made it a tradition any time she comes for a visit!
I met a friend here for lunch today and we thoroughly enjoyed being waited on by Janelle. What a remarkable experience for any first time or returning guest! The food is great! The decor is conversational! I would recommend this place to anyone!

Fun place. Super busy, reservations recommended. Owners are great, they love engaging with guests. House is beautiful and historic, small gift shop upstairs. Some proceeds go to the Historical Society. Option for brunch or Tea Party. I had brunch (waffle and bacon)

Horrible Service. I was not a fan of the rude manager and the serving staff. Try smiling to your guests. The manager was cocky and rude. I also, watched a big group walk out today as well. Read the reviews before you spend your money at this establishment.

I see the manager would rather spend time on google and respond to reviews instead of training his staff to smile. "Mr. Manager" please take some classes in guest services.

I've only been there once. Recently 2 classmates from 1967 !! met there for lunch and catching up. We had a great time. It's a special place - like stepping back in time to when things were not so rushed. Beautiful old mansion turned in to a Mad Hatter themed tea house

We have been going back to The Mad Hatter every summer for years. We've turned it into our family tradition.
The tea service is simply excellent and we enjoyed their regular menu as well.
A must see in the greater Twin Cities area.

A good way to mix up your Sunday afternoon routine. A great selection of brunch items. Good for family and friends. The theme is not over the top, but as a grown woman I felt a little bit silly. Lean into it and you'll have fun!

Came here for breakfast with my family and was pleasantly surprised by this place. The menu is pretty unique for breakfast but everything was delicious. Its also very fun to visit old mansions like this as for so long you drive by and wonder what it looks like inside. I would highly recommend a visit for breakfast or if you if you like tea as they have a lot to pick from.

I love the experience of going here. I have had some great meals here as well. However, after trying tea service here a few times, I feel this place is just okay overall. The service can be spotty. I've had great attentive service and other times absent and aloof. The queen of hearts tea service has a great presentation, but I don't love the food. They have an excellent lemon curd and chicken salad, but the other options are just okay. I see they get very high reviews and I don't know why I don't find the food to be better in tea service. I will go back, but for their standard menu. The ambiance is great and so awesome for little girls. For the price of tea service I want to love the food. Tea and presentation are great.

Located in a very quaint historic home on the river.. Really good food and if your tea lover you will love it! Very quaint Decor inside and excellent food. They host many special events all year long, many of which sell out right away. They also do high teas.

Terrible food in an old house. The stuffy atmosphere was not to my liking. Probably a cute place for people who like tea parties at their grandma's house.

Edit: Following the response: I apologise for being too harsh and not being more detailed in my initial review. I agree that the historic house is indeed an interesting location to visit, but that doesn't excuse the quality of food that was served, which was not addressed in the owner's response. My girlfriend and I had to wait for over an hour for service and then the food finally arrived ice cold and was dry, which is pretty ridiculous for over priced breakfast food (I ordered the chicken and waffles dish and she had a potato and egg scramble dish). Other low reviews here have mentioned similar issues. Maybe I came on a bad day and should give it another shot, but a scathing response from the owner 5 months later doesn't motivate me to do so and shows that they aren't at all interested in changing. Personally, I'd have to know there was a vast improvement to the quality of the food to return.

The Mad Hatter is great for being a unique to the area concept where you can linger over proper Afternoon Tea in the rooms of a historic house. I've been three or four times, and it appeals to folks of all ages. Call ahead for the full (and pricey) full afternoon tea service; simpler options are available otherwise.

My mother and I went last year for their holiday tea with friends, and we still talk about it today. The service by the owner was impeccable and the food and tea were delicious. We also loved the Christmas decorations; they really brought holiday cheer. We highly recommend!!!

I was able to stop by mad hatter for a birthday celebration... and I loved it! Our server Becca was very friendly and patient in explaining what was being served as I had never been there before. The tea and finger foods were delicious and I can't wait to return for more celebrations!

Absolutely loved this place! The historic home, the tea-loving atmosphere, the great service, and the tasty food... Perfect for a mom/daughter or girlfriend date. Their prices are very reasonable, especially given the large portion sizes. I will hands down visit again!

Tea was perfect and balanced. Food was good. Quiche was a bit dry but flavor was nice. The Tweedle Dee... thing was delicious. The wild rice soup was outstanding.

What fun! Neat treats and a wonderful yard and view of the Rum River. There is a very nice gift shop and some great proprietary tea mixtures for sale. The chocolate one is delightful. Yes, the owner reminded me of their house blend which has chocolate in it!!! You cannot go wrong with it. I bought some to take home and for gifts. Oh, and the tea sets are delightful!

Very unique and busy resteraunt in an old victorian sryle house. The decor and menu is creative to Alice in Wonderland but it is not cheesy at all but very quaint and classy. Dress up or casual, you will fit in. Delicious food and super friendly service. Make a reservation for more than 2 on weekends to ensure seating.

We had so much fun! Amazing food and friendly staff. The Chicken Salad, French Onion Soup, and Cream Puff were all to die for! The best moment was when I realized I could buy the tea (best tea I've ever had) and take it home with me! We will definitely be back! Thank you Mad Hatter for such a memorable experience!

Last night (July 22) was out first visit to the Mad Hatter. We had been talking about going for months, but never found the time. We made reservations for our Anniversary. Upon arrival the hostess congratulated us, and led us to a room with no other guests and an adorable, candlelit private table set ready and waiting for us! Our server, Dylan, made the experience even better as he was knowledgeable about the menus, and all the items, was very friendly and gave great, timely service. We would come back based on the service alone. The food was A-MAZING! Easily one of the best meals that I have ever had. We had Mozzarella Risotto Cakes, Chicken Saltimbocca and Pesto Pasta with Sirloin. Everything was prepared perfected, plated beautifully and tasted even better than it looked-it was clear the ingredients were fresh. My other half even said, these taste like they were still in a garden this morning what is better than ultra-fresh ingredients?! We could not have been more thrilled with the experience, the food, the atmosphere and the staff. The Mad Hatter will become our go to place for date nights and special celebrations. I wish we would have had room for dessert, as they looked great too! I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone! They also have a patio which I think would provide a more casual experience, if you are looking for something more laid back. This place is a real gem, and I can t wait to go back!

Amazing little spot. Beautifully maintained, wonderful selection and experience. So many choices for how you wish to dine; regular and brunch menus, tea service, and even private tea parties. Staff worked with allergies to help make sure that we found a dish that worked for all people in our party to enjoy something delicious and delightful. The tea sets were incredibly cute, and the French creme brulee tea that we had was a fantastic treat. It tasted as though I were drinking a liquid version of the dessert. Prices are a bit high, because you are paying for the experience and service, so be ready for that. Also the serving sizes are just a touch small. So if you value food that is of impeccable quality, and excellent flavor, but have a slightly smaller stomach, this place would be absolutely perfect for you. Otherwise plan to spend about $15-25 per adult for a satisfying meal! Very much intend to come here again.

Amazing food with friendly staff. The owner is lovely and always greeting guests and making them feel at home. The tea is also the best tea I ve ever tasted, regardless of which flavor I choose. They never seem to disappoint my but always impress me. Food prices are also reasonable for how amazing they taste and served! I am Mad for Mad Hatter!

Great food. The wait staff has been very knowledgeable and friendly everytime I've been there. Nice gift shop with lots of unique things. Only complaint I would have is the person greeting and taking reservations in the front wasn't very warm or friendly. I was put off a bit by the impolitenes over the phone.
