My daughter, granddaughter and I had a lovely time at your Christmas Tea. Almost everything was great. The little tiny cheesecake should be bigger, and the scones smaller. All was delicious, but the dessert box had some problems. The large cookie that had Mad Hatter on it was tasteless and very hard. Have you eaten one? The tiny cake was way too tiny. The chocolate was marvelous. Don t put macarons in the box. You don t make them. The color is unappetizing and too hard. Surely you can come up with a better cookie. How about a little cream puff, or a bar cookie. The atmosphere was delightful, the tea excellent. The house is beautiful and the store fun. I love the tiny teapot I bought. I would come again, but I hope you work on the dessert box. Thanks and Merry Christmas.

The decor in the house is so cute and welcoming, not to mention the beautiful tea cups and tea pots at every table. Excellent food and good service! We tried the "Royal Wedding" tea and it was absolutely delicious! We will definitely be returning, this is well worth the drive from Woodbury.
My stuffed French toast with berries and cream was out of this world! Good service, lovely decor. Can't even describe how good the food was! Order it, you won't be sorry! My friend enjoyed the chicken salad sandwich, wild rice soup and cranberry bread. Also delicious.
Oh my the Strata was delicious and some of you are wondering what is that.... go check it out.....it was a special and scrumptious! Service was exceptional and this is twice now that I have been wowed!
Love this place! Housed in a historic home and owned and staffed by wonderful people. Amazing teas. Delicious food and gluten free options! Cozy setting with beautiful views. Can't wait to go back.
The Mad Hatter has delicious food at reasonable prices! We enjoyed the special New Year's Eve dinner and can't wait for them to open back up for dinners again this year. Gourmet food and wonderful wait staff in a beautiful mansion setting.
This place really is something special. I go here every year around christmastime with my grandma and my aunts and mom. My grandma is on a fixed income so she s always weary of doing the Christmas tea, however, we ve never felt pressured to get it. The service is excellent and the food is rich and yummy.
Absolutely a gem. Special place for gal talk over a pot of fancy tea and sweets or a fabulous lunch that can't be described. Great service, wonderful food and no one rushing you off because they want to turn over the table. Just brunch, but worth the trip!
I have been here and enjoyed high tea a few times, and each time has been wonderful. My most recent visit was on 8/22/19 with my husband, and we had Megan as our server. Megan did a great job, and made the visit pleasant and kept the tea coming. We had the queen of hearts tea, and every part of it was perfect down to the most minute detail and thoroughly delicious. The delightful food and tea were matched by the whimsical atmosphere. I highly recommend coming here for special occasions, or just for fun. I have not been here personally with children, but note that whenever I have seen them here they seem to be having a great time.
My wife and I eat out most of the time and are well known by most of the higher end restaurants on a first name basis.
We know what type of service and how the food should be based on all the different types of places we go to.
The Mad Hatter is a restaurant that tries to be a higher end restaurant with their food offering, atmosphere, and price. When they say they close at 9:00pm get ready to be kicked out promptly at 9:00pm.
First, the only real positive I can say is that the atmosphere is pretty nice, similar to Acqua in White Bear. But that's about where everything stops.
Our reservations were at 7:45pm and we arrived early at 7:30pm. We had to wait for our table which is expected and spent the time in the neat gift shop with the other couple we were meeting there.
We were seated at our reservation time at 7:45.
Our waitress, Jacqui, provided the single worst experience my wife and I have ever had at a restaurant (especially for a place like this).
To her only credit, she did take orders from the women first. But again, that s where her service ended.
It took 10 minutes for us to get our wine and another 5 to get a glass of water. She came back to take our order then returned shortly after and told our friend that her meal was out. She asked when she wanted instead but we didn't have the menu memorize and then realized that she needed a menu and had to return with one. For a restaurant trying to be higher end, that should have been a given. That wasn't a huge deal but it just kept adding from there.
Our wine showed up a few minutes later and I was surprised that she didn't pour the wine for our friends out of the bottle they ordered. My wife and I ordered a glass.
Our first course showed about in about 10 minutes and my water glass was empty. That was the last I saw of our waitress until our main course showed up 40 minutes after that. Needless to say, that was the last time my water glass was filled, too.
When our meals showed up I asked for a fill of water (she never even looked to see that we were out) and brought out a carafe and said here, you can fill your own water . Well, sorry for being a customer. She didn t even bother filling my glass or anyone else s on the table, I guess it was too much of a bother for her to do. We had no visit to tell us why our meals were taking so long to come out; the waitress was just MIA (as well as the other tables in our area).
So now it was around 8:40 and she (finally) stopped by to ask about dessert. My wife and our friend ordered the bread pudding and that came out about 8:50. We were enjoying a nice conversation when the waitress came back out and took away our glasses and said they were now closed. The time was promptly 9:00pm. I was more than a little taken back by the comment and how she said it. My wife made the same comment in the car later.
The food was ok, my herb steak was actually pretty tasty but it wasn t prepared the best (needs a char on the outside). My wife s shrimp and grits was a smaller portion of food, which we appreciate, and was ok by her account.
I could have cut the waitress some slack if she had more than 5 tables to work on and was truly busy.
As we were being pushed out, the table on the other side also made the comment about being pushed out of the restaurant as well. That was just a bizarre and unexpected experience. I didn t realize that we were on restaurant time; I thought it should be on customer time. Had our food come out on time we probably would have been out by 9:00 but instead we were pushed/rushed out.
I can t think of a single instance of any other dining experience that could come close to the lousy service we had here. Our meal cost $78 which was a on the lower end of the high end restaurants we eat at. Save yourself the time and go to another restaurant; it s not worth your time or money.
The setting was lovely - both the manicured grounds as well as the renovated mansion! The concept of having afternoon "tea" was unique but the food that went with having a tea service was cute and tasty, but way to tiny. These finger sandwiches were not much bigger than the diameter of a quarter. Delicious, yes, but very small.
It would seem that they would want to welcome everyone (because I did feel quite warmly welcomed when I arrived and I am African-American)but I felt like I was in a very Caucasian, Victorian era-all the decorations depicted white women. Even in the small gift shop, nothing represented people of color- not a book cover or vibrant cloth, or anything else. It was unsettling.
I looked at the table that had ordered outside of the tea service menu and their food looked plentiful and delicious. Our waiter was excellent! All personnel were very kind and helpful!
Outstanding experience! The food was wonderful but the tea is even better. I order their tea online and have never been disappointed. I can't wait for the pandemic to be over so we can go back!
Cute in it's own worth, but doesn't live up to their title in my opinion. The Queen of Hearts Tea service was adorable with little lighter than air miniature scones and crustless Barbie sized sandwiches. It was good! But this food that was made mostly with air also made so there was only air left in my wallet. I would like to see if their actual food is worth the $$$
Dear gents and ladies, If you are charmed by English flare; afternoon teas in fancy tea pot and cups, pastries, mouth watering entrees, playing dress-up in your fancy hats and gloves, single, couple or groups Mad Hatter is the place to be. Make sure you whip your reservation.
Absolute great time at the concert event. The music was great, the picnic basket, burgers and brats were delicious. The Mad Hatter team was on spot, friendly and energetic.
Took my girlfriend here in February and we both really enjoyed the experience. The service was outstanding, food was beyond scrumptious, and the tea was to die for! Definitely recommend this place to those who enjoy Alice in Wonderland, like antique style environments, or just like tea in general!
Stunning location and greet environment for a group event. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and can help you make decisions if your new to the "tea house thing". Will definitely be returning!
Great service. Wonderful servers. Birthday girl and guests were late and felt a bit rushed but the server was able to give us more time to eat and catch up. 2 and half hours later, the experience was superb along with the minor delay. Thank you, Mad Hatter.
I took my mom here for a Mothers Day/Birthday combination outing, she has wanted to come here for years and we finally took the opportunity to go and we had very high expectations. We were not disappointed! Our server exceeded our high expectations and then some! We made reservations 2 weeks prior for the Queen of Hearts Tea Service. Our server made sure we knew how the service worked and what each of the food items were. She made recommendations for tea and we loved all of the ones she told us to try (we had 4 pots of tea!) and enjoyed all of the food. The house-made orange marmalade and the cranbery pecan chicken salad were some of the highlights but everything was delicious! My mom didn't stop smiling the entire time we were there, we spent 3 hours and didn't feel rushed. Would absolutely recommend the Mad Hatter for special outings! We plan on returning soon for lunch on the porch and bringing my god daughter for fancy milk and cookies on her birthday!
Mad Hatter is an absolutely beautiful place! The food and atmosphere are awesome! But, I want to talk about the amazing husband/wife duo that own and operate this place. I spoke to Liz this morning, in the wake of the governor's mandate to close all restaurants. There is much to be concerned about, but Liz has lost sleep over her employees. This couple is constantly working to build a great place to work for their family of cooks, servers, hosts, etc. This business puts out a wonderful product and experience for anyone who walks through it's doors! Even better than that is the heart behind it all and the leadership of the owners.
The menu is mouth watering and the tea service was perfect. We loved the timer that came out with the pot so we could have the tea ask soon as it steeped. Also the ability to try several pots from the menu not just a set list of tea made our afternoon even better. Location was picturesque but comfortable at the same time. I will be going back and have already been recommending it to everyone I know.
Beautifully decorated historic mansion. The Christmas tea was impeccably served and the chef prepared a scrumptious and refreshingly unique menu. Absolutely delightful!!
Love, love, love the Mad Hatter!! Went for my daughters 14th birthday and did the Red Queens team and we all loved it!! We will be back! Wonderful food, beautiful decor and amazing service! And not to mention the adorable store upstairs!!!
What A fun experience! Beautiful atmospere, excellent rood and our server, Janelle, made the whole time there wonderful! I will definitely be returning.
Amazing and friendly service. Loved everything about this place. Clean and inviting atmosphere. Amazing food, amazing tea. The deco is beautiful. Cant wait to go back. I think about it often.
Classy atmosphere, classy service, love thoes delicate ventage looking tea cup. Wear your Sunday best outfit " for real classy attire "... take your parents, or grandparents, they will really love it
Such a unique looking place. Beautiful outdoors and indoor area. In contrary to the name, the atmosphere is very calm lol. We enjoyed our breakfast very much and the service was fantastic. Reservations are recommended on the weekends, they were extremely busy on Saturday morning when we arrived.
We went there for my wife's 50th birthday. We had never been to a tea room before, and frankly, being a male, wasn't sure how enjoyable it would be. It actually turned out to be a fun time for all, and my wife really appreciated it. They made her and the rest of us feel special, the service was great, and the food was terrific!
Just returned from the Christmas Tea and I ve never been so happy. This was my first time here and I will be back. Meghan, our server, was delightful, attentive and knowledgeable. Tried so many teas and the food was delicious. Truly a great experience.
Went twice and loved both times!! I love both the inside and outside seating. The staff are so kind and lovely and I highly recommend the goddess grilled cheese with turkey and the wild rice soup, its very delicious
I had an extraordinary at this place. We loved the excellent atmosphere and the meals. The waiters are super personal. I m content we ultimately decided to try this place.
Romantic and historic setting is wonderful and inviting. Perfect service, menu is excellent. Fabulous when you want to go somewhere unique and special. Fine dining and always delicious tea!
We love coming here! The food is the best we've ever had at a restaurant. Your chefs are top notch back there! We have never had a bad meal. My brother usually just likes to eat things that he's familiar with but even he admitted that he liked food here that he normally would never touch! The decor is lovely as well. Everything about it is perfect for us. The only small complaint that I have is that one of the servers (is she new? Have only started seeing her just recently) seems a bit rude and acts in a short manner. My brother has autism and sometimes is slow about ordering and she answered his questions in a short, kind of impatient manner and made him nervous. Didn't really appreciate that. Also, when we got our food, she just kind of dropped our plates and quickly walked away, not asking if anything else was needed. I ordered a pot of tea and she slammed it down in front of me, and as she turned to leave, I had to ask for the cream and sugar, and was given a short clipped answer. Our drink orders were never really taken, and my brother finished his water, which was never replenished. It kind of ruins the ambiance of the dinner. Being in the food industry myself, I usually hesitate to complain because I know how it is but dang. We loved the other severs we had the first few times we came. Maybe we can request one of them next time?? Ah well, the food was still awesome and we will be back for more :)
The whole experience was awesome! We went for a special event with 10k brewing and jelly bean and Julia's. Service and the venue was incredible, not to mention the food and beer! I can't wait to go back for the next event like this.
Great experience surprising a friend for her birthday. Dylan was a fantastic server and went out of his way to make our little surprise even more fun by bringing hats for the birthday girl!
Beautifully-presented and flavorful High Tea Service, brunch and lunch.
Have been here several times for High Tea and will continue to return. I drive one-hour in each direction (2 hrs. total!) to enjoy visiting this business one to two times each year. A very special treat for sure that is to be enjoyed with plenty of time (if you are in a hurry, you'd be doing yourself a disservice). The grounds and historic mansion along the Rum River are beautiful. Darling gift shoppe with special finds upstairs. Having hosted High Teas in my home and assisting some of my girl friends in their homes to do the same, I know firsthand the amount of prep time and assembly that comes with putting together a High Tea like this. It is wonderful, and all of that cooking, cutting, assembling and presentation takes painstaking time if attempting to host in your own home. If you are looking for the BEST High Tea experience in the Twin Cities, go to The Mad Hatter. They offer a wonderful experience.
This is just the best experience! My mother and sister and I have made this a tradition that is going strong for 10+ years. Their everyday service to their special event teas are worth their weight in gold. I plan on carrying on this tradition with my 2 daughters.
This is truly the gem of the north suburbs! Excellent drinks (I usually get both tea AND a cocktail...ahem) ;), food, and service. Fairly priced. It's a great place to showcase Anoka for your out of town guests--or just to treat yourself. I would recommend reservations on the weekends.
I took my sister here for an early birthday surprise and wasn't only pleased, I was blown away by the superb experience, food and service. And, if they are serving Chicken and Wild Rice the day you visit, get it and don't hesitate. This may be the best soup - EVER.
We did the Queen of Hearts tea service. The good variety was great, tasty and just a lot of fun. The teas were amazing. We walked out with a few kinds. We sampled the Creme Brule, Snowflake and the Seasonal Punch - all worthwhile. The fun part about tea service, which I'd never heard of before, is that you can switch out pots of tea throughout your meal so you can sample more.
Great establishment and atmosphere for a ladies brunch, bachelorette party, or a holiday celebration.
The food was good, and most of the tea was as well. Some of the flavors fell a tad flat, but we got the unlimited option and could switch away from the ones that were not as exciting as the others. My only real complaint was that the service was a tad awkward. Our server was nice, but was not confident and really just taking our order rather than being a guide (but maybe she was new?), even when we admitted I hadn't been there before. Then we were informed we had overstayed our welcome. We had been there over 2 hours for just 2 of us, so it's understandable that they wanted the table back, I just wish they had asked more gracefully (and with another pot of tea!).
Such a fun place! Kanada took great care of us while we enjoyed the Mad Hatter's Cheshire Cat Tea Service. The treats tasted great and we made our way through four different types of tea. Great place for novice to seasoned tea enthusiasts. I plan to try their fantastic looking brunch next!
We had reservations for 8 women for tea service/Queen of Hearts. At the last minute only 7 were able to make it. We were told we would still be charged for 8, even though there were only 7 of us. So they charged us for 8, but only served 7 servings. Really? No mention of....did we want to take the 8th serving home (consisted of little sandwiches, deserts, scones, soup, etc) The person that seated us was kind of rude an not very friendly. She seemed to be better when we were leaving. Our waitress was nice. Food was good and fun place to see. Something different to do.
Very nice plate to go try a lot of kinds of tea! I had the 2 hours tea service for 4 people that includes all delicious mini desserts. ( 35 per person) plus tip. Girls !! Wear your pearls and hats !!! You will have a nice experience .
Absolutely fabulous every time I'm here. The queens tea set was amazing and there wasn't a single item I didn't enjoy (even the delicacies with edible flowers). It was beautiful and the service and ambience were top notch. The gift shop is adorable but note it is up stairs and there is no elevator. It's also a bit of a walk to the door so those with mobility issues should be prepared. I highly recommend this place for girls days or anniversaries. They often hold steampunk and other fun events too that you can make reservations for. Truly a MN gem, everyone who enjoys good tea should at least go once.
The mad hatter is a wonderful place. I had my picky inlaws with us and they were even pleased with the food and service. I loved there stuff French toast. I will return. They got four stars because they had no pop at the time. Actually it turned out great. Tried there lemonade and it was fantastic.
I love love love this place! They recently moved to a gorgeous house by the river. Every second inside is just amazing! Lovely place for a luncheon with girlfriends!
I just had my bachelorette party here this past Sunday and my mind was blown! I had a private party so we were presented with a very beautiful and personalized set up outdoors. The food and tea was amazing! There were so many tea selections! I cannot express how happy I was with the service! The owner was such a sweetheart. Making sure we got everything we needed. Explaining each food that was brought out. Took photos for us! She even gifted me a pot of flowers that was in a Madhatters tea pot! She is seriously the sweetest person! The bathrooms were clean and the inside was just as beautiful! Perfect for a date or any celebration! Definitely recommend to everyone! Planning to take my fiance here for brunch and tea soon! Thank you so much for making everything so memorable.
Very cute, eccentric place! The house and estate themselves are really cool, and the food was amazing! I had some sort of lentil soup that was both dairy and gluten free, and these little rolls/scones that were so good! They have a nice variety for food and drink, and plenty of allergen free options. Definitely give it a stop if you haven't yet! They have both indoor and outdoor seating too!
