I enjoyed the atmosphere and food. A pleasant experience UNTIL we were told we had to leave as they wanted the table. (They had several open tables) Won't be going back!

Great food, service, history and atmosphere! I highly recommend!
Went here for a baby shower and the service was top notch, great tea, great mimosas, and desserts were yummy!
Beautiful historical building. Food is amazing, though on the expensive side. Speak about the tea as I didn't have any.
Went with ladies for my mom's 70th birthday as a surprise to her. Staff was fantastic, Janet was our server. Each entree was beautiful and the slice of cake made for 2-4 people was great plenty for all of us (10!) to share...it was ginormous . We were so full from our meals that the little sliver of cake once split up was the perfect size. Beautiful and comfortable atmosphere even during the busy time of 12:30. Spinach/Artichoke/Heirloom tomatoes quiche; Roasted Beet Salad with grilled chicken breast and the slice of cake. Thank you for a wonderful and memorable birthday for my mom!
Sometimes you don't know what you need, until it is right in front of you. The Mad Hatter delivers great food for the body and soul.
The food was well prepared and presented. It was a good atmosphere for the reception we attended.
Celebrated my wife's birthday. The food and service by Janelle couldn't have better!
Have never tried their tea service, but it's such a nice place for brunch. It can get pretty busy most times, but they always do their best to fit you in. I got the club sandwich and it was so delicious! Loved the sweetness from the toast!
Tea and salad on a riverside screen porch with gentle breezes. Wonderful lunch. Pulled pork French toast ... cranberry chicken salad. Friendly and comfortable
My girls nieces and in-law had fabulous time. We do it heart beat. Thank you. We when back soon.
First time here and it won't be our last! Food was great including our sangria's :)
We had the green goddess grilled cheese and the giant cinnamon roll. Definitely exceeded our expectations, Nummmm!
My sister and I absolutely love going here. The food is absolutely delicious and even though I don't drink tea very often but I love the tea they serve here. The wait times for food and service can be long, however that's to be expected when the food is at such high quality and the restaurant is almost always busy. The ambiance is one that is cozy and calm. No doubt I will be bringing my German foreign exchange partner here when she comes in the spring.
While this place was definitely not my cup of tea, we had a great experience. The service was phenomenal, they were very helpful, and although I didn't personally like the food, it was still prepared very well and everyone else truly enjoyed it.
Love the tea service , my granddaughter and I had the children tea and the queen tea , the service was wonderful , price very reasonable $$ , can't wait to go back.
Beautiful food, beautiful service, everything about this place was fabulous.
My first time there today with my sister (it was her birthday) and the atmosphere is so nice and warm welcome. The waitress was friendly and nice. We did the Tea Party service (Queen of hearts) and everything was good. I spend $79.00 including tips and the portions was very small. I'll probably go back for the brunch but definitely won't do the Tea Service. But overall it was a good experience.
Sometimes, you just want to feel fancy. If I'm driving all the way from Bloomington, I'm getting the Queen's Tea. I'm sure the regular menu items are just as tasty as the three tiers of seasonal delights served up by informative and attentive staff, but there are only so many places you can go for fancy tea. I've been to 4 in the Twin Cities, and this is my absolute favorite. The venue is charming, and the tea selection is varied enough to leave you wanting to try more without being overwhelming. Plus, with the Queen's Tea, you can try as many as you like. Then there's the cute tea-centric gift shop on the second floor! I use special occasions as excuses to indulge several times a year; if I lived closer I'd give the regular menu a try and visit more often. I do my best to share it with as many friends and family as possible, and they always have a good time.
This place is so much fun! I love that they take reservations and that you can actually get in on the weekends! The food is SO GOOD! Last time I went I got the sausage Benedict and I was really happy with it. The sweet potatoes & regular potato side was yummy and so was the homemade ketchup. The portions are the perfect size and the price is really affordable! I am going to have to come back with my boyfriends daughter for a tea and dessert date or bring her to the princess events they said that they have. Definitely a fun place to bring a young girl, or have a brunch / lunch with friends! I HIGHLY recommend this place!
Horrible service, poor attitudes by manager and wait staff. We were guaranteed many things by the manager during the three conformation phone calls and none of them happened the way that were guaranteed. We ended up leaving without dining. Then the manager had the nerve to call us to express his frustration. We will never dine here again. The management of this restaurant also deletes reviews off of here so it's rated higher than it should be.
Hospitality, food, tea and concern of staff for guest health and safety is ALWAYS outstanding.
Over priced and very average tasting food. The woman taking reservations on Saturday Nov.5th in the morning is extremely rude and patronizing. Too bad, because they have so much potential. Won't be back, lost a patron and will not recommended.
Very charming atmosphere! Food was FABULOUS! Can't wait to go again. The only negative comment is the sour hostess on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at 2 p.m. She was unfriendly...seating guests was apparently a chore.
Wonderful tea service. The Cheshire Tea Service with cup of soup was just right for lunch. It really hit the spot.
I'll say this: the food is delicious (my wife and I shared the pulled pork stuffed French toast and the veggie skillet). Both were full of flavor! It's a bit spendy (especially the tea IMHO) but all very good tasting. Great for a date (morning, afternoon, or dinner). We bought a bag of loose leaf tea to take home. A really quaint and historical place as well.
This was our first experience at this tea room. The service was great and the teas were outstanding. The food was pretty good.
I really liked most things I tasted. Environment is very pleasant and impossible to capture in photos.
Charming. My sisters and cousins had a very nice time.
Always a fun experience, the food is awesome and the staff is so friendly.
Really nice afternoon, service was great. Tea was good
I was so excited to go to the Mad Hatter today after reading so many good things about it and I was not dissapointed! The service was great, the tea was amazing, it was so fun trying many flavors, and the queen of hearts tray was so yummy!! I will definitely be going back!
This place was so much fun! Incredible food, beautiful atmosphere, wonderful staff! It was perfect for our bachelorette brunch. The prices were on the spendy side for the tea service but the quality was out of this world. Totally worth it. We definitely hope to go back!
A whimsical yet chic place for brunch. Excellent tea selection
I had chicken wild rice it was really amazing, and there cajun shrimp an grits it was a fabulous dish if you are into grits.
Such a cute environment and the tea is delicious :)
Room was pretty noisy, portion on walleye very small the meatballs were 5 stars!! Nice people, server very good.
The Mad Hatter is a great place to go. Delicious food and a fun atmosphere.
I went with two friends for High Tea. It's a bit expensive but so worth it once and a while. They have a great tea menu, a great selection of things to eat, and if you like the teas you can buy some to take home. The atmosphere is classy but you don't have to dress up. I will definitely be going again.
This is such a sweet tea room! It's beautiful and perfect for a proper tea service!
It's worth the trip from the cities. The food is always sooooo good. I've always had really good experiences here. My favorite in the Thai Turkey Burger and their caramel apple sangria. I would definitely have a bridal shower here because it's so cute!
It was a bit letdown... Atmosphere is good but food and service is not the best. We dine out only at good places because I am a chef in the past and love cooking at home. With that said - we can definitely have better dining experience for the PRICE we payed at this restaurant. Not coming back.
A long drive, but wonderful ambiance, an excellent tea service with friendly staff. I like the Queen's Tea. It is pricey though.
Went there for Valentine's Day dinner and it was the best meal I have ever had in my life!!
I donated a large set of family antique dinnerware to the Mad Hatter. I'm still waiting to hear what pieces they can use, but I am so happy that I may have found a home for the set where others can use and enjoy it!
This restaurant is adorable and the customer service is OUTSTANDING. The food was excellent (we went for brunch so I can t speak to the tea party food), the decorations and atmosphere were super cute, and the tea was also fabulous. I m not a tea drinker but I ended up buying some anyway because it was that good. I would highly recommend this place.
Once again, a lovely dining experience. I had requested seating in the screened porch for my group and it was so lovely, almost like dining al fresco! Be sure to ask for the screened porch if it's available!
Went there on a Sunday morning with me n a friend. We needed a table for 2 people and we got declined. I didn't understand why since I could see 12 open tables. The lady said that in the next 2 hour they have reservations coming up that it might fill up the tables. I think that is a BS that 2 people can not get a table when they walk in an clearly u have open tables and u r going on a maybe we might fill up
So she gave us an option to leave or wait 2 hours..... yea not waiting 2 hours
Had lunch here a couple weeks ago. It was a delightful experience. Best eggs benedict I've had in years. Service and ambience great. Will definately go back.
Absolutely loved this place! Very good food, and wonderful service! We came on a rainy Tuesday afternoon and had a great time. The teas are really tasty and come in cute teapots. I love taking my family and frineds here for celebrations, instead of a bar! Must try!!!
Such a great place for a birthday. Such nice staff, such great food, not from around here but I'd definitely come back
I am thrilled with the adaptive reuse of this mansion! My husband appeared to be the only dude in the entire establishment but had a good laugh about it - he just loves me that much! I really enjoy their tea and all the beverage options available, including mimosas and beer. If I lived in the Anoka area I would be here all the time. Their enclosed patio overlooking the back garden is really special and peaceful - I hope to make a return visit again soon!
First time there for Christmas Tea with one of my dearest friends and it was such a great experience! If you plan on going, make reservations a couple weeks in advance! Emily, our waitress, was a sweet gal who gave lots of great recommendations of which tea to have with each of our courses.
What a cool experience! I was skeptical being a guy and seeing how "tea" is sort of a lady thing, I didnt really want to go. My wife promised great food, so I went along on our anniversary. When we went inside, we were greeted by the front desk and asked if we had a reservation. We did not, but they worked and got us a table for brunch. I loved the steak burger and the cinnamon cheesecake for dessert. We also had the divine temple tea - great flavor! The owners are really nice people and you can just tell they love what they do! Thank you, can't wait to come back again.
Came in for tea with my mom. Super delicious food and tea. Lots of choices for tea. I plan to go again with my sister when I am able. I saw some of the brunch items and I plan on going back to try them.
The perfect place for any cosy get together. Get a seat on the porch when weather permits.
So nice. Gift shop is amazing. Great place to bring your kids if they are well behaved.

Disabled Info Below; Set in a beautiful circa 1857 house with lovely large grounds right on the River. Not sure if they use the grounds for tea or not in warmer weather. Disappointed w/little details that were omitted that one would normally expect with a high tea service and it certainly did detract from the experience overall. (such as no proper teaspoons-even if you ask!) If you're going for a 'high tea' you better think high prices but not such a great tea-I had to stir my tea with what they use as a soup spoon-very large & quirky but not in a charming way. Didn't have cream for tea on the table (you'll have to ask for cream, at a tea House I thought that was strange) or any sweetener aside from white processed sugar cubes, also not so charming. The scones were quite dry and the other bits were decent, not very memberable. The Service Staff was Wonderful: they understood & explained all the items on offer at our tea. Staff couldn't have been nicer or more kind, very nice people. Sadly don't think I'll be going there again for a tea service anytime soon, especially considering the price for what you get. May be a better option to wait until it's warmer outside and see if they use the grounds for a tea service- it's certainly an excellent location for it w/large grounds right on the river-especially if they start putting teaspoons out w/the tea cups, had cream at the ready on the table and if they offered a few different options for sweetener side from white cube sugar.
=plenty of parking: 2 spaces right in front of garage next to house (entrance is in the back/south side of house) or there were a few other handicapped spaces available in the lot which is down a small hill, prolly not to easy to get up if you're in a wheelchair. Not sure of the restroom situation with a wheelchair-they do have a restroom but I didn't make it to the restroom. The room we were in was certainly technically barrier free but it's pretty crowded in the room I was in and it seemed like it'd be a bit of a hairy situation to navigate with a wheelchair in there, furniture would have to be moved for sure unless you sit right next to the entrance to the room which was near the front door, not an optimal spot due to people walking by.A scooter would be even more difficult to maneuver in there I would imagine unless they have several other rooms that are less crowded with stuff. If you're going with a wheelchair I would call ahead and let them know, perhaps they could make more space available. The Gift Shop is on the second level, I didn't see an elevator (I didn't look too hard) to get up there so I didn't make it up there: my Mother has been to it before and said it was nothing special, typical things.
Reservations highly ecommended (not sure if required) especially if you're in a party of 3 or more OR if you want a special service, like high tea, I'd highly advise a reservation.
Price for the tea service I had for 4 people was about $132.00.
We had a very nice time, but waited unnecessarily for our bill.
Loved Janet, our server!! I have been here several times and this last visit on a Saturday durning lunch time I brought my sister, mom, and grandma. This is an awesome place for a girls day, a brunch day, or bring your man because they also have burgers and beer! Food is fanominal. Cute gift shop upstairs. My only wish was that I lived closer.
1. The good- great character and pretty good food... The waffles and chicken are good. 2. The meh... Prices and service time... 11:30 reservation and we left at 1:20. So keep that in mind if you go.
Not a typical restaurant. Originally for tea now open for brunch/lunch and tea. In a National Historic home on the Rum River. A place to take your time, enjoy the food and visit with your table mates. There is also a small tea shop upstairs.
Loved all the small details. The photo ops were cute, food excellent, tea superb, staff welcoming and friendly. You would be mad not to love it!
This is a fun place to go for birthdays or holiday celebrations. It's a bit spendy but it's worth the relaxing afternoon and calm conversation. We enjoy looking at each room and how they're decorated for each season.
Great portions, Creative food options, super friendly and inviting staff. All of this set in a historic home still housing its authentic old time charm. A unique destination that lives up to its literary reference.
Absolutely phenomenal, great scenery, amazing looks inside and out. The food was so superb and the Tea was worth every scent. Then have beautiful pots, cups, yes timer, and small snacks to go with the tea.
Amazing food, fantastic atmosphere and excellent service! A must visit restaurant in Minnesota!
Plan on getting the boot. Won't recommend it to anyone. Owners are rude. It's interesting reading other reviews that are similar. It's even more interesting when the owners respond, no accountability. They clearly do not want it to be about the customer service. Wrong thought process for food industry.
I love this place. Even when the unexpected happens they were very kind and generous with myself and my family. They handled my son allergic reaction (My fault not restaurants) they treated my son like he was one of their own children plus it was Easter Sunday so it was VERY busy.THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH JENNY! I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU!!
The place is amazing and the food is delicious. If you want to go back in time, it's the place to go!!
Finally a place worthy of date night in Anoka! Unique setting, good food with great presentation, great tea offerings. We have lived in the Anoka area for 8 years, and have been disappointed by the nearby restaurant offerings - everything seems to be a chain or a sports bar type place. Is it the best restaurant in the twin cities? No. But is it a unique, quality offering worthy of date night that doesn't send us into Minneapolis or St. Paul? YES! We'll be back, and next time we'll try the tea service that the people at the next table were enjoying.
What a special place, in Anoka of all places. Fun to get dressed up for tea, and everyone loved their food - women, children and men. I d come here for any occasion. Affordable place to experience something new and different.
We had dinner there on New Years Eve, OMG! It was a great experience! The place is beautiful, super clean, the salad was great and for the main dish I had grass-fed Ribeye Roast, they even gave me the end cut! I will be going back soon! our server was Lynn and she was fantastic! even gave us 3 servings of there french bread with honey butter. plenty to eat and drink.
They didn't bother to update their hours, were closing when we got there, also the restaurant isn't even open for dine in anymore, which would have been fine if they had updated their services to take out only, and their hours for take out since online it said closes at 2pm and when we got there for lunch at 1 "takeout orders are closed for the day" is what we were told. Won't be bothering to try and go back.
This is a true treasure & delight in every way! The menu can be high tea or get your grub on either way great quality! The chef has surely created delights you won't soon forget in the historical location off the Rum river in the background. Their house tea is a must try & take home from the gift shop. I wont soon forget their delish food, great service, amazing staff, beautiful decor & gardens...you will regret not giving them a try.
Loved the variety of tea and the environment. We did the Queen of Hearts tea service and the savories and dessert was a bit lacking.
