The production of Cats! the Musical was by far the best thing I have ever done with my time and money. I wish I could watch Cats! on a continuous loop for every single minute of my entire life until I too eventually turn into a half-human, half-cat mutant and can strut along side the cat versions of Taylor Swift and Jason Derulo forever.

A classic - geared toward the dedicated cinephile This small, older, unique theater brings both off-the-beaten-path independent, foreign, short and quality popular films to a Tucson that doesn't appreciate it enough. It was my guilty pleasure in college 30 years ago as I'd use my lunch money to slip away between classes to enjoy a matinee. I don't have to sneak away or skip lunch anymore, but I sure do love an afternoon movie at the Loft.
Over the years, this non-profit arthouse theater has expanded their portfolio by organizing gatherings, adding club memberships, supporting special events, regularly showing science and journalism films, sing alongs and Oscar watching parties, and the Loft Film Festival. I don't need an excuse to go, but I'm happy that every time I do, I'm supporting independent film and keeping this treasure in Tucson.
Another awesome place to go in Tucson. Not your regular theater experience. Lots of indipentant films, documentaries, old movies, and everything else. They have beer, food, ice cream, and a great outdoor area to hang out and wait for a movie. It's worth checking out. They have a variety of different membership options which helps keep them in business. They have pre-screening shows depending on the membership tier, and some rad shirts too.
I ve been to The Loft dozens of times and usually have had a good time. A few times the audience had been so loud and obnoxious it detracted from the movie, but that just happens at public movies sometimes. Recently though I went to a Mondo Movie night for a date with my boyfriend on what appeared to be a quiet night. After getting drinks and food in an almost empty lobby, we went to sit in the theatre. We had been looking forward to this movie for a few weeks. To our surprise, the theatre was PACKED with rowdy patrons, with maybe four visible seats scattered throughout the theatre. It was a chaotic scene. When we went back to the main counter, we let the employee know that we had come to see a movie together and we weren t able to sit together because the theatre was nearly full. They informed us they would give us our money back this time but not before making it very clear that TECHNICALLY there were still several available seats. I told them I thought they should let people know if the theatre was filling up and their answer was basically that they were giving me what I wanted so what was the problem? Clearly the problem was that I don t want to plan a date night at a theatre weeks in advance only to be casually sold tickets to a overly-full theatre. The only thing we could have done was come earlier and found a seat somewhere before the rest of the raucous crowd showed up, but honestly that movie experience sounds miserable. It was an incredibly condescending way for that employee (Candace) to handle the situation and although I ve had many interactions with other employees over the years (exceedingly friendly ones) this altercation left a very unpleasant taste in my mouth. I can see why some people would enjoy coming here, but I don t think this is the kind of place I want to support anymore. After spending over $20 on snacks and drinks, the least they could do is simply give us our money back, without trying to make some kind of point about their policies and theatre seating logistics. They made it sound like this is something that could happen again, and next time they may not give our money back. No thanks. I d rather watch a movie literally anywhere else.

Snack bar has organic popcorn, beer of the month, food and snacks. Amazing staff and a beyond unique highly amusing Program Director/Film Host. The Loft is one of the 7 wonders of the World.
This is a true gem of The Old Pueblo. From mondo mondays to documentaries you cant see outside the circuit, this place has it all. The entire staff is amazing, the food is great, and the atmosphere tops any regular cinema even lounge style theaters
Great independent movie theater that shows films that don't show at the multiplex. They also have cool special events. Nice huge screen. I can't wait until they get the new seats in.
New lush comphy chairs and a great selection of quality snacks make this a lovely fun theater showing some of the best films ever. The huge variety of movies, the old time original building, the loft is simply five out if five stars.
This place was superb! We saw the movie Hidden Figures, which was just fantastic. It was a free screening for MLK day, one of many great events they do here. We arrived a bit behind schedule, and the movie was sold out already, but while we sat there planning our next move, the employee handling tickets came up and gave us two extras she came across. It was really above and beyond of her to do, and it's service like that that receives five stars!! (Side note -- option for hot coffee from their snack bar a huge plus for fiends like me!!)
A wonderful movie art house with so much to offer. Support this local arts business. They have a great concession, fun and thought provoking movies, membership options, lectures. They also keep renovating and making it better and better. A long time local business that is still around for a reason. There's always something interesting at the Loft.
I hadn't been to the loft in aw while and now I'm considering joining. They bring excellent and interesting movies. I saw fantastic fungi (please go see this movie, it's amazing) and it's great to be able to have discussion with friendly strangers - exactly the vibe created by the loft. The food choices are above and beyond the poison they serve up at regular theaters. I had a wrap from Cafe desta, and I love that they support local by offering good from Tucson restaurants. This is a great Tucson gem!
A piece of Tucson history. Definitely seems to be a more unique type of theater which reflects Tucson's 3/4-is-good-enough attitude on things. The theater we were in was little more than a converted garage. Seats were really uncomfortable, and the prices were not exactly great.
Good prices on concession items and comfortable seating. However, their selection of movies leaves a lot to be desired. If you pay for an annual membership, you get to see the earliest movie of every day for free plus other discounts. This is an indeoentent theater and likes to show oddball escoteric movies and foreign films. Occasionally they will show a classic movie.
I didn't know mom and pop theaters still existed until I encountered the loft. Both friendly for families and adults, this theater packs a wide range of movies, especially those classics near and dear.
They offer food and drinks that will keep your taste buds wanting more including pizza, pretzels, adult beverages, and specialty items from the community.
Each year we attend the Family Fest. My wife and I can not wait to visit next time we can find a sitter.
The Loft is neet place. We were in theater 2. The problem is we could hear the employees talking and laughing downstairs because they were so loud. It was very disappointing.
You know, the Loft is an icon of the Tucson art film community. They offer cinema that would never be shown by the chain theaters. My one complaint is that they would please update the sound system in their 2nd floor theater. It's set too low and the dialog is ill defined. So, please, if it's art house films you want your patrons to enjoy, well, we have to be able hear it.
Great movies come here, but the staff are usually uninterested hipster kids. Silly to be sneered at when you're ordering a beer. Theatre 2 is the best room.
What a great theatre. Always have something fun going on. The employees are always nice, tickets are a good price. I love supporting such a local enterprise.
Always awesome movies showing; some newer movies, some classics, some obscure weird things that you've never heard of. Lots of special events to keep you coming back for more, like the Kids Fest and Rocky Horror nights, etc.
Tucson would be less livable without The Loft. Besides being an excellent venue -- the staff is great! -- The Loft is our cinematic lifeline to a larger world of ideas and visions.
Cool place to sit on patio, watch the sunset then see an indie or classic film. Super fun watching The System is Broken screening! Support local films, small biz; start here!
Great place to see independent films and documentaries. They also play classic and cult classic movies that you may have missed seeing on the big screen (e.g. 2001 a Space Odyssey). But the best part is they serve a large selection of craft beers, and were one of the first theaters to do so.
Classics and independent movies you cannot even see elsewhere. Special events with food and cocktails. Friendly staff and very efficient service to seat people and get their beverage and food quickly. Love this place.
