Their food is always way too salty and below diner food standards with above fresh farm to table prices. They are the only place near by and get away with low quality foods with high prices. Their breakfast special one day was a egg burrito with cubed ham with a tea it came to $19.75! I got to ODB and get a coffee, duck egg on avocado toast for $12 to put into perspective. Just visited as I didn t not bring lunch to work and ordered soup. I received half full cup of soup that I paid $8 for. I returned it asking if this is the correct amount. She said yes you only get one scoop of soup.... for $8!! You do not get what you pay for here. Shame on them taking advantage.

The food was good and I was having quite a nice first experience here. It all went downhill when some woman started changing her baby's soiled diaper right in the restaurant area where everyone is eating. YUCK!!! How unsanitary! I didn't go in the bathroom, so am uncertain if there is a baby changing table in there, but if not you should consider putting one in. I pay to go out to eat, I don't expect to be eating near feces.

I have to agree with many of the other reviews - this place used to be so great, but it's gone downhill over the past 10+ years I've been going. The cinnamon buns used to be bigger, goo-ier, and now I get weird looks when I ask for icing. The sandwiches are smaller, but more money. The staff, I wish I could say are over-worked and grumpy, but it used to be far busier so they are just getting more and more grumpy. The baking is not like it used to be.
It's sad to write a poor review, but it used to be an amazing place. Now it's solidly average and expensive for being average. The quality just isn't there - I wish it was.
Very similar story to sidewalk citizen for those that experienced it in it's heyday. Sad to retire my following of this place, but I'll always remember late nights in college and early mornings at lazy loaf.

Had breakfast .... toast so thick not actually toasted. Hasbrowns REAL potatoes, but cold and slightly under cooked. Omelette had tomatoes, I didn't ask for that and slightly undercooked. Because it's busy I didn't say anything at the time.

Liked the atmosphere but was a little confused with the ordering system when we came in for the first time. Staff were friendly and helpful. I had the Kale Caesar which was very good and my husband had chicken noodle soup and ham & swiss sandwich which he also liked. We also had a water and an orange juice. I found it a little pricey at $30+, but good overall.

I don't understand the "hype" behind this place. Heard it was good. Went in with my lovely lady and she ordered a turkey sandwich. We both got the steak and mushroom soup.

Oddly enough we received our orders. My soup was broth only. I asked her if there was any steak or mushroom in hers and she swished it around and there were some in there. Weird right? Just broth?

Then she picked up her turkey sandwich.....guess what, there was no Turkey in it! How do you forget Turkey in a turkey sandwich? Nobody knows. The place is kind of busy but there is a lull at the front counter so she goes up with her plate in hand and all 3 employees oddly turn around and converse with each other for a while while she is standing there with her plate in hand. "Excuse me"......no response...."EXCUSE ME"......confused looking employees finally make eye contact. After they take her plate into the kitchen for what seems to be a long time they bring out her sandwich with 1 thin slice of turkey on it. Looking at the Turkey sandwich on the table next to us....seems a lot more stacked. Oh well. What a waste. I feel like I dropped 30 bucks on $2 house made sandwiches and a can of soup.

After conversing with some people I was told it was their breakfast that people appreciated. So I gave it another shot. I ordered the "Eggs benny with hashbrowns and fruit". Ordered it to go. Was quite sad when I got to my destination and opened it up and there was no fruit. And again oddly enough there was a little bit of hollandaise on 1 of the eggs and none on the other. Very bland.

That's 2 strikes on 2 visits to this place.

And stupid me, I go in for a 3rd time. This time I order the eggs benny again. I asked if "Eggs benny with hashbrowns and fruit" came with fruit and I got a dirty look. Haha. After a while they bring my "Eggs benny" to me (Keep in mind it's about 16 bucks) and YAY THERE'S FRUIT. Wait......it's a tiny little dipping sauce container with hard as a rock dry and crunchy melon only. BOO. And WHAT? One of the eggs benny pods had a poached egg and the other pod had a smattering of scrambled egg on it. What the heck? It was like a quarter of an egg.....scrambled.....with grill marks on it. who the hell is running your kitchen? $16 bucks for eggs benny.....your chef botches a poached egg and instead of making a new one.....he throws a bit of scrambled egg on there and says "Screw it....good enough!
Have some pride in what you serve. Get it together.

Been here for both breakfast and lunch, as well as just coffee and snacks, and we buy our bread here since their kettle loaf is our favourite bread in the city. Each time is always fabulous. Always great food and drinks.

Came in for soup and sandwiches. The soup and bread were really good. What I didn't enjoy was that the sandwiches options were regular, nothing special, one could get the same sandwich at Safeway for much less or simply make it at home.

My recommendation would be to forget the make your own sandwich old-fashion style and come up with some new sandwich/baguette combinations that would make the cafe stand out.

Everything I've had fun here has been excellent. I haven't had any of the sandwiches, but my co-workers have said they are well worth it. And one of them loves to hate their carrot loaf as it's big and delicious to the point where self control go out the window and she finishes it everytime. And to round it off the staff have always been excellent and it's clean inside.

Had the eggs benny, bread was good, sauce was good, ham was a thin piece if ham sausage. For 15 bucks I expect better ham. Potatoes were boiled and heated slightly on a grill. Fruit cup had seen better days. Doubt ill be returning unless the ham game gets stepped up.
I will note the baked goods looked great but i didnt have any.

Long time customer of LL&K, however on June 14 the service was atrocious. My g/f and I arrived at 17:20 pm ordered 2 sandwiches, a salad and the Asian Lettuce Wraps. It literally took almost 55 minutes for our order to be delivered to our table. usually our experience is amazing, but I don't seem to think it was only our table suffering. The table beside us had an order forgotten. I'm not sure if someone had called in sick in the kitchen but this was not what we would consider the usual amazing service from LazyLoaf. Will definitely consider going there for a quick bite to eat. It's unfortunate as I love LL&K so much. but the fact the guy who was serving the dinners really acted with such disregard, really put me off. Hope to come back in a few months and see that things have changed. (Honestly a huge shock to us)

The lazy loaf and kettle is a great cafe spot with no pretensions. The coffee and food are homey and delicious, and range from sweet snacks to sandwiches made to order and cooked dishes from the kitchen. It can get busy on the weekends, so it's nicer to drop in on weekdays .

After reading some bad reviews I was a little off to come to this place but it's quite nice. Decent food, good coffee and somewhat friendly staff. If I wasn't moving from Calgary I would come here again!

I had a truly appalling first (and last) visit here, the staff were rude, slow, disorganized and had very poor communication skills. They canceled our order after making us wait over 20 minutes because they ran out of (allergy modification) ingredients. The server offered a refund but young woman at the cash was extremely rude and gave us the incorrect amount. I don't understand the hype around this place, it doesn't even look clean. Want a sandwich? Go anywhere else.

The food is fantastic but it was extremely busy. Prepare yourself for a bit of a wait. The couple that ordered ahead of us didn't get their food by the time we left. They said it wasn't the first time they had issues.

Will return so hopefully they figure things out.
