Ole Duphus attended a sales conference at the Montage Palmetto Bluff. All I can say is the place is awesome. A gated community on 20 thousand acres with about a thousand plus homes with a hotel, golf course, shooting range, etc.
One of the nicest places I have visited and I have been in every state in the US.
Kind of pricey if you stay at the hotel but it s a five resort. You pay for luxury.

I came here for a wedding and was blown away by how scenic everything was. The estate is situated by a river, includes a lagoon and is lined with beautiful big trees. At night there are fire pits around which you can sit to enjoy the stars above. The service and the amenities are top notch but the best surprise was finding that the shower in the cottage doubled as a steam room. I'd highly recommend this place to anybody looking for a romantic or relaxing getaway.

Such a special place!

Such a special place!
Once you get to Montage Palmetto Bluff, is like stepping into another world, even if you live a few miles away, it truly feels like you are disconnected and at peace!
This resort is well worth the price! A true resort experience!

Exceptional. The colossal trees as you walk the ground and attentive-but-not-intrusive service make this an escape worth the price. Definitely pay up for a water view as each room or cottage has its own peaceful patio.

Very friendly and helpful service staff, from the housekeeping to the cart drivers to the servers. Unfortunately, management has not figured out how excruciatingly uncomfortable and disturbing it is to be on a former plantation built on the blood, sweat, and tears of slaves and a) not see a single mention of this dark history in their timeline/history brochures/tours and b) not see any memorial to the lives and suffering lost on this land. Instead, this place boasts a disgustingly whitewashed history/romanticization of the "good ol' times", aka opulence provided by slavery, and the place feels true to the "good ol' days" with its very segregated staffing and guest pattern (it was basically all white guests being served hand and foot by a disproportionately black staff; I only saw one black person in the "professional" positions). The only mention of slavery was on a tour of Daufuskie Island when our white tour guide told us the slaves lived equally side by side with the white residents and stayed after emancipation because life there was so good (!). I mean, I get the desire to psychologically protect yourself from uncomfortable truths, but this place was a bit much. Of course, everyone is so nice, and the place is beautiful, so uncomfortable truths are kept secret so white people can continue to be comfortable.... So it goes... This place was heartbreaking.

It's Thanksgiving week and COVID is on the rise. I wanted a safe, clean place to stay on my way to Kiawah and I chose the Montage because the ratings were very good and I wanted to check out the neighborhood to see if it would be a good place for a vacation home.
I arrived at noon during a dark rainy part of the day and checked in early with no problems at all. Ok, with 1 problem. I got a new Volvo and couldn't figure out how to release the parking brake. Fortunately, the team at the valet desk had a lot of experience and took my girl directly to the charger. {And by charger, I mean extension cord } Whew, catastrophe averted. Seriously, in my mind I could see myself sweating and shaking while hundreds of guests pulled up and around me to check in while I tried to figure out how to release the brake.
The Montage at Palmetto Bluff is beautiful. Even the rain couldn't dull the shine of this southern masterpiece. It feels like a plantation home. The only clue that it is, in fact, a hotel are the desks positioned on either side of the front doors. From the front porch you can see through the entry, parlor and the porch to a fire pit with Adirondack chairs and further off in the distance is an enormous swimming pool. As the floral teams begin to light the holiday trees the rooms fill with warmth from the freshly lit fire the hotel shimmers with an amber glow that is simply stunning.
I was shown directly to my feather free room where my luggage was waiting and unpacked my tennis shoes to take a look around. It was still drizzling but the sun was on the way and things would be dried shortly. The Montage offers free bikes to guests and trail maps to see interesting nature type things. I didn t do that. I went to Wilson Village and shopped, ate ice cream, checked out the marina, spoke to the team in charge of kayaks and canoes, stopped in at the post office and sat down with a realtor. By 5 pm I was starving. Unfortunately, one of the pitfalls of staying in a resort with homes is all of the other people that live there are hungry too. So be ready to make a reservation when the concierge calls you before your stay. I didn t take this advice and had dinner on a bar stool at Cole s.
Cole s was delish and because there were 2 bartenders it was easy to call one over when the tequila turned my breath to fire and I needed water to put out the flames. Plus, I met a very nice couple that was happy to share the ins and outs of living at the resort and how much they loved it. It was a win/win in my book.
Around 10 the complementary shuttle bus arrived to take me back to the hotel for the best rest I ve had since March. I don t know if they are piping something into the rooms or have magic beans under the mattress but I slept 10 hours straight.
The next morning, I had a quandary, take a bath in the deep soaking tub or a quick shower? Like most women I have this image in my mind of a long warm soak, maybe reading a book with candles and orchestral music in the background and the scent of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. The reality is never as good as the dream. The shower wins every time. It was then that I noticed the bug spray on the counter. How I wish I had noticed it yesterday!
For those of you that aren t from the south there are 3 things you can always count on. The weather will usually be hot, it will often be humid and there will always be bugs. Lots of bugs.
I showered, had breakfast and by 11am it was pouring rain. I had late check out but decided to pack it in and get back on the road. I slept great and had a safe comfortable stay. The employees were very good about wearing their masks and

I'm actually sad to write this review because when I first arrived at Palmetto Bluff I thought the grounds of this hotel were so beautiful I would want to come back over and over again.

At first glance It seemed worthy of the 5 star reviews I had read online as well as the hefty price tag we were paying for our deluxe waterfront cottage. However after staying here for a week I quickly learned the service and housekeeping services here are far below any other 5star place I have stayed. Housekeeping barely cleaned the room and it was extreamly hard to get the normal things you get at a hotel like bottles of water and towels. I continuously had to call for them to bring the bare necessities. By the fourth day they still haven't changed my bar of soap! This place is nearly $500 a night and I'm begging for towels and using an old crusty nub of soap??! One day they didn't come at all and the days they came they didn't even change our my coffee cup, the just flipped it over and thought I wouldn't notice.

This place is ridiculously expensive and nickel and dimes it's guests, from hidden resort fees to valet fees and anything else they can find to charge you for they will. The worst part was the food is really horrible at the resort as well, I'm a vegetarian and that left me with little to no options. You can barely get an omelet and some toast for under $60 and you pay $8 for a glass of frozen orange juice. We knew this place wasn't going to be cheap and had the food been good I would have happily paid the price but every meal we had was worse then the last.

Finally, Anyone who stays here should be warned It takes Forever to just get out of the resort, so leaving to get food is an option but you have to walk 15 minutes from your cottage to the valet and then it's a 15 minutes drive out of the 20,000 acre property so it's not quick.

I will say the cottage itself was very pretty and the lagoon and the grounds really are spectacular, I can only imagine how pretty it is here in the spring unfortunately I will never ever come back.

The trip ended with my husband and I both getting the flu, probably from the germs in the cottage that never gets cleaned, and eating yogurt and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches from our mini fridge bc it seriously was better then the room service menu.

Superb! This is where my wife and I go for a quick get-away from Charleston. The hotel, the cottages....all are just wonderful places to stay. We walk for miles and miles with our dog (yes...dog friendly even for the large ones). Our massages are always the best, the restaurants are wonderful and the staff is super friendly. Don't forget to stop by RTs....the best little store/gas station. You will find all sorts of neat things there.

I had to cancel my reservation due to virus and work. Dana and Ann were fabulous. I plan to go in the fall or spring. This is first class. I will go because when someone does what is right it makes you want to be with this organization in the future. . Brad Williams

It ia a Beautiful place.

It ia a Beautiful place.
Peaceful and quiet, but does have a couple of small play areas for children.
The people that work here are professional but courteous and friendly.
There are 20k acres here and that gives you many choices for food with a variety of reasonably priced restaurants.
Love to come visit again

Food and servers were fabulous. However, the room was not decorated at all for our Holiday party. So plain, almost depressing. For the money that was paid, I would have liked to see it decked out for Christmas.

The entire experience was unforgettable. The hotel was fully booked but you would never know that because that make it feel so spacious and free. Most of the workers, not all, were very easy to have conversations with, and you're able to feel like a family for the stay. Bob, the greatest golf cart driver of all time, was great and our favorite worker. You really feel welcome, and you know they put the guest first. No one pushes you around anywhere and they're happy to go at your pace. I will be visiting again.

Amazing! My friends have 2 houses down there, but I decided to check out the inn! I stayed in the cottages and they were lovely! There was amazing service and I LOVED exploring all around Palmetto Bluff! I would recommend RT's market! It is very cute and they have a basketball court behind it! I love the cabanas at the pool, but the pool is very small. The restaurant is amazing and the breakfast there is delightful! The gift shop there is nice, but is very pricey and for what your paying to stay there I think the prices should at least a little bit cheaper.

I really recommend coming to Palmetto Bluff! The May River is beautiful! You can go tubing and canoeing. You can also look at fun events they have there! They have s'mores every night at the "Old Inn", (I don't exactly remember what it was called) and Lemonade and cookies in the afternoon! I feel luxurious when I come here! Overall, I think it is a great getaway place to come with friends and it is 100% THE BEST! :)
