Everyone loves this place! The setting is amazing, very peaceful among the trees and near the water. Our server was very attentive. Food is fine, a little pricey, but you pay for the ambiance. Not really five stars to me.

Great food and wait staff. Nice, breezy outdoor seating. Wiil definitely come back!

It is always fun to visit GRUENE, Texas. The food is plain country cooking, but tasty with a relaxing view of the river below.
And getting to meet the wolf-dog and owner on the walk out to the shopping village was the highlight of the day.

Make sure to sit by the fire place in the winter time. It's perfectly cozy with a great view.

Have not been there as long as I have been in Sam Antonio area. We had shrimp on a stick 4 pieces that were bacon wrapped and out of this world. The fish was good . Queso was spicy. Sausage was tasty. Over all it was a great meal. There was a lot of add on that made the bill go way up, like tea, and salad and Cole slaw for add on to meal. I was certainly impressed with the view. I will go back again.

Passing through town I stopped for dinner here. It's a popular place, very buzy but not overwhelming because it's a big place. The food comes out quick, the waiters are super friendly. The food is very tasty, yumm. The only downside is that although they advertise as a restaurant on the river with views, there are no views because they're obstructed by trees. In overall, great experience and it was worth the visit.

Always have a good experience here! Went yesterday it was a beautiful day. Luckily no bee's outside.. LOL our Waiter was so nice and helpful. My daughter ordered the chicken strips with fruit, I ordered the Fried Catfish, and husband order the half rack of Ribs!!

Had a great time on a beautiful Halloween Day. Started with chips & queso and some delicious Bloody Mary s. Delish!! The Gruene Country club sandwich with the tortilla soup was delicious!! Not to mention the grilled cheese sandwiches that my granddaughters enjoyed. The club and turkey club sandwiches were delicious too. Customer service was perfect and the scenery was beautiful. I love the outdoors. So, what a way to feel safe while going out with the family during Covid 19! Thank you for a great experience.

Our NEW FAMILY FAVORITE! It's a huge restaurant with tons of seating but still has a small atmosphere to it. Right on the beautiful Guadalupe, it truly is an enchanting area. Food was great! Service was great! Had gluten-free options which is a bonus. Great for a date night, special occasion, our just because!

Fantastic food, and they make the wait for a table very easy with live music. I'm a huge fan of the Guadalupe chopped steak, the chicken fried steak, and the onion rings. Avoid ordering daiquiris and pina coladas during the summer time, as they absolutely will attract bees and spoil your meal. The meals are always very filling, and I have literally never been disappointed by my dining experience.

I think it's a overhyped place. Almost 2 hrs waiting time. Food was okay, I didn't feel anything special food wise. Atmosphere thought was great! 2 hrs wait did not feel that bad. We visited other parts of the town while waiting.

This is an extremely difficult review warning warning do not go to the Gristmill in the summer months in Texas if you are hungry starving hot and don't like the Heat or old and don't feel like waiting or just plain cranky and can't deal with the fact that there's no air conditioning in a building over a hundred years old however if you're young and vibrant and can take the Heat and the wait the food is worth it if you don't mind sitting at the bar and having a few drinks and relaxing in the heat with the misters then this is fine if not wait until the winter when the atmosphere here is even better and they have the fireplace is going to keep you warm the wait staff is a little on the slow side because they're all very much young and inexperienced servers but again we get back to the food which was well prepared portioned perfectly and reasonably priced for the venue

I come here quite often, but there is always a long wait! We had to wait for 90 minutes!

I love coming to the gristmill! They have great food, but I am always so disappointed when I ask for sweet tea and they tell me, we have unsweetened tea but there s sweetener on the table. That s something I would expect in say, California, but no sweet tea in Texas?! That s crazy!

Very rustic good food not Handycap friendly cobblestone walk ways very uneven horrible parking had to park1\2mile away.

The scenery, atmosphere, food, and prices can t be beat. There isn t a better place to wind down after a long day at the water park.

The best part about it was thier fries. Even at that several of them were over done. Awful experience this past week. We hadn't been here in about 2 years. A party of about 6 "kids" who had obviously come back from a day on the river. They were loud, rude and very much drunk and or under the influence. What upset me more is the fact that thier waiter took thier order and brought shots of tequila for each person. Shows both poor training and a lack better judgement. Of course, in a matter of 10 minutes one of the young men makes a bee line for the center of the restaurant and proceeds to projectile puke all over the place. Instead of cleaning up the mess, several employees ignore the vomit and several customers walk over it. Not only that, a hostess ignored the vomit and sat a couple right next to it ! It smelled horrendous and the fact that children were walking over it. Gross. Broad daylight, a family restaurant and drunk young college kids shouldn't ever mix. I will also add most of the staff has horrible people skills.

I have been going here since I was young & a great spot on the weekends by the river to relax and have good comfort food. They have a variety menu for everything & for drinks as well. Open for lunch or dinner & a lot of shops right around it to enjoy.

As you walk in you are greeted with smiles from the staff and an incredible fireplace/firewood smell that tells your senses this is a good place.

Well, this place is one of the best Texas has to offer. You will not be disappointed! Very unique and western style decor. The old brick building has an incredible allure to it. The beverage menu is top notch and has multiple selections. I ordered the T-bone steak and in Texas fashion it was marvelous!!!! Come enjoy this historical landmark!

Great atmosphere and a local favorite. The chicken fried chicken is a must and the sirloin steak is also good (ask that they put the steak on the back grill) the reserve wine selection is a bargain for some great California cabs that would be 3 times more at a steakhouse.

Had dinner with my brother and sister in law. Have not seen them in a very long time. The food was delicious and the place was as busy as usual. Love Gristmill.

ALWAYS a great place for lunch! Awesome food and wonderful servers. Never been disappointed. Filet sandwich is fantastic and if you have a LARGE group, you MIGHT finish an order of onion rings. Haven't gone yet? Take the short drive. You'll be glad you did!

The food is good. The atmosphere is really cool. The wait staff was very attentive.

This is the first time we have gotten bad service there. Our appetizer never came until a team member came and apologized for the 25 minute delay and brought them out right away but 5 minutes after that our food came. I had to get up from our table and get A1 steaksauce from another waiter cause ours was nowhere to be found then we had to wait another 10 to 15 minutes just to get our change back. You can have good food but when the service is awful that just ruins it.

Picked a nice relatively cool evening for our first visit. Friendly staff. Good food for the price. We will be back.

We eat here often because we live in NB and this is one of the city s most popular restaurants. For locals January is a great month to go because if you are on their email list, you get a BOGO free meal during the week for lunch or dinner. The atmosphere is why tourists eat here and the food is why the locals come back after summer vacation and in the winter. They have 3 large fireplaces and stand alone heaters outside which is our favorite place. We love their rack of ribs, so we have leftovers. The steak and seafood is good to. They have a good variety!
