Disappointed! We booked the Curtain, due to Covid they cancelled the reservation and said I was not due a refund but could book at a later time. Now they are not answering phone and I ve been contacted that they are insolvent. Watch out, don t book with them!

The place is not sensational at all. Loads of positive reviews in the media, but service is ok at best, food selection for the rooftop very poor. The whole look and feel is cheap and seems very manufactured to have this old shabby look, but everything is brand new, so there is a bit of a disconnect. Rooms are cute. I would not bother to be honest.

The hotel is advertised as 5-star. I m guessing this is because the layout of the rooms is unique. And it is. I ll give it that.

But.

Reception was slow and unwelcoming. I was given an accessible room even after I told the front desk person that I didn t want that when she asked me. The pool was cluttered with dirty glasses and empty wine bottles/holders. I thought the rooftop would be a pleasant experience, but it was a cluster... horrible service. Frozen drinks off the menu. And no towels for the pool. Dangerously crowded.

There were other minor things you simply catch eye of in a place where the expectation has been established, a rushed knock at the door, for instance, where the room attendant quickly unloads 2 water bottles and a small box of half melted chocolates. And they, indeed, add up.

I d like to think more is expected from a place with this kind of rating. But to me, the value simply isn t there. It s average.

Update: luke warm shower as well. Just disappointed overall.

The hotel has 2 bars/clubs downstairs. The noise was so loud we got no sleep. The base was vibrating in our room. Because the smoking area is in the central court yard, all we heard was shouting. We had to check out at 1am because of the noise.
This is a great hotel to stay in, if you are planning a big night out in shoreditch- but don't expect any sleep before 2am.
The staff were apologetic and sent us an email and flowers, the following week. They did acknowledge that the sounds from the parties were over the max decibel level.

Really Poor Experience! Staff seem completely uninterested in the place! Seems like a huge lack of management!
Service was a HUGE let down
Disappointing management
If you just want a comfy bed then yeah great but if you want a 5 Star experience then stay clear of here there are plenty more options around London that will be better spent on!

I could go on and on

Nice place great beds and friendly staff, a hop place and that goes to it's head from time to time. Love the steam shower. Sometimes feels a little far away from things but that's also a good thing. Happily started here the times while do so again.

Very cool hotel in Shoreditch. Well-kept and spacious rooms. I really enjoyed the steam shower (sauna-like effect). The hotel has a large and equipped gym, a rooftop pool and several restaurants.
Good stay. The only flaw: considering the price is not exactly cheap, I would have expected at least breakfast included in the price.

This place needs to decide if it is a nightclub until 2 am or a hotel, it can't be both.

If you have a room that faces Scrutton st (or any in the first floor), don't expect to get any sleep before 3 am. Once the Red Rooster closes, the crowd just spills out into the street and doesn't disperse until after 3am.

Also, be wary of what they describe as a 'city view' room, that's basically any room that doesn't face the inner courtyard.

Showers still don't work properly and after 6 months they are still working out the kinks.

This is not a well run hotel, your money is better spent elsewhere

In particular the bathroom was incredible with an integrated steam room, but unfortunately compared to other hotels the 250+ pounds for a single night stay without any included breakfast or extras for a standard room is simply too much for what you receive. Great location in Shoreditch.

Been a member from the get go. The staff is amazing and the space has great vibes!

But the coffee my gawd must be the worst in shoreditch. I literally leave the club to get coffee almost anywhere else. It s diner level coffee in a bougie place and it breaks my heart. That is all.

Incredible hospitality as soon as we walked through the door. Welcoming, friendly, efficient and informative all fit the bill of just the welcome desk. Then you've got the rooms which are plush, well stocked and generally just great. Bar downstairs was alive with a great atmosphere when we got home late one evening. Great hotel.

Fantastic independent hotel. I ve been to a couple of hotels in London, but none of them made such an impression as The Curtain. Located just near Dinerama and Boxpark, 5 minutes walk from Liverpool Street Station. Perfect place to enjoy some nightlife in London. I stayed there when I was on a business trip. The best minibar ever. The shower contains a steam device, which helps to rest after a whole day of work. Best wishes to Carleen :) You re simply the best.

great hotel in a very central location. we stayed here one night and had a really good time, the lido bar is great place for a romantic drink and we also got upgraded which was amazing. only downside was our room was quite noisy and we found it hard to get to sleep.

My husband and I had a lay over in London on our way to Venice on May 27 2017 when we were stranded along with thousands London., to to an IT shut down with British Air. We were fortunate to find the Curtain Hotel.
The place is amazing great accommodations and the staff even better.
Peter the Manager and Guillermo from Brazil went out of their way to make our stay a pleasant one. The rest of the staff was just as wonderful.
I will definitely be back and recommend it to all my family and friends.

Try hard

Five star indeed. Beautiful hotel. Great customer service. In a good location to bar's, restaurants and and London transport. Oooh I'm looking forward to staying in the summer months. You totally get what you pay for.

The hotel was nice and the staff very nice. The on-site restaurant was not very good and we definitely expected more. We had a cheese and a sausage platter and a few other little things ordered, and the cheese was old and had already dried edges. Otherwise everything was fine

We have had the pleasure of putting on events at this venue, most recently a Twisted Circus themed Birthday Party. The venue is amazing - perfectly sized for all sorts of events, nice high ceilings and it has a separate room for entertainers to wait to come in to the event. It's easy to get to, stylish and the staff are very friendly - exactly what you need from a venue!

Positives first- Great amenities with a bar, gym, food, two restaurants, etc.

Negative- primarily, what do you go to a hotel for? To sleep and relax.

From your room, you will hear music blaring from the restaurant below from Wednesday to Saturday night until 11:30pm. I went for a work trip so this was a bit distracting.!

We went here for our 10th Anniversary on 23rd Dec 2019.
We had a lovely evening.
However we didn t expect the film to start right on 7:30 pm as we where a about five minutes late due to train issues. We where hoping they would let you get settled in first and start the film at 8pm. We didn t have much information about it really! We assumed it was going to be outside as they advertised it with the outside swimming pool but it was so beautiful inside.
We did feel they should have turned the fairy lights off that where at the front near the screen tho apart from this we had an enjoyable evening for our 10th Anniversary we will probably be back if they doing anymore cinema events. You should definitely go to experience it. One more tip the drinks are obviously a bit on the expensive side but you do receive a free glass of champagne so that was lovely. ( It was in with the deal )

Eclectic southern style Indian food with boldly artistic design. Busy so make a reservation and plan for a noisy, moderately cosy experience. The live music was quite good but a little too loud for us.

Members club. Nice place to go for after work drinks and nibbles on the rooftop - not ideal for eating in the downstairs restaurant as it s in the basement and service is slow (especially in a group). Pool is next to the upstairs restaurant and is too small to actually use. There is a cool events room with organised nights and can be rented. Cinema room, bar and sister facilities- babershop and Red Rooster (chicken restaurant from NYC).

Rooftop Pool with a nice view and great food. Service is impeccable and fast. I went there with friends for a brunch, we stayed the whole afternoon by the pool with cocktails in hands. We did have a great time. We were able to book a table because one of our friend is a curtain's member so I cannot comment on the hotel experience other than the restaurant.

There's not much to dislike about The Curtain. It's a hotel come private club, which has it's own intimate (it is snug) night club, gym and health spa, with a gorgeously decorated and spacious bar on the floor below ground. Other than the various hotel rooms located on a number of floors, you'll find a light and welcoming restaurant on the upper floor, offering views across the rooftops of Shoreditch. The restaurant comes equipped with an outside seating area and mini bathing pool. As to be expected, the staff are friendly and professional, and members can also enjoy the private cinema located in the building. It's a well thought out building, but too frequent a visit would lessen the appeal.

I was upset by an incident which happened during my stay at the hotel and the way people at the reception handled it. I was thus happy the front desk manager sent me an e-mail few days later to apologize.

Styish and very comfortable. Well located for a night out in the heart of Shoreditch. Rooftop pool is very cool. Shame we didn't get to use it as it closed at 10 despite reception telling us it was open until midnight. 3 bars open into the early hours. We hung out in Billy's bar in the basement. Great place to chill at the end of a long night.

This hotel hit a lot of good notes for me. It felt almost brand new, and I had a great room with no issues. Service was responsive and helpful. Great gym and roof bar/pool lounge. It was a good base for my solo trip.
