The Beach House Cafe Review

Pricey and nothing out of the ordinary to merit them

Way over priced for what it is. They're playing on the "organic free range" bandwagon without matching the quality standards expected for the price. The stunning location also gives them a captive audience so they don't need to make an effort. It's a pity because there's a lot of potential here.

Beautiful place in the perfect location. A good and varied lunch menu. In summer there are tables outside on the esplanade - a nice place to watch the world go by.

Really friendly, welcoming and attentive service from a hard working team. The menu includes tasty Goats cheese foccacia, homemade soups and a superhealth Quinoa dish. And today I had what is Definitely the best Orange Polenta Cake I have ever tasted. My only wish is that it wasn't so difficult to choose from the tantalizing range of sponge cakes, traybakes, pastries and savoury dishes. The hardworking team do a wonderful job - they are attentive, polite, patient and friendly and the bistro has a truelly beachy "washed up" feel. I will certainly be coming in regularly when I move to Portobello in a few weeks time.

Amazing scenery and food! They have early bird breakfast deal until 11am.

To be fair to The Beach House, when I visited it was a sunny Saturday afternoon, so quite busy. However that doesn't excuse indifferent service and dirt in my salad. My egg mayo sandwich was nice enough, but over priced. And I had to work hard to pay, they didn't seem interested in taking my money. I won't be back.

Always a great family experience at this cafe. Breakfast/brunch is always amazing, was slightly let down by the club sandwich on the lunch menu at the last visit.

Breakfast and lunch, this is the place. A bit pricey, but the food is very good. Always go there for the weekend, to eat their Beach House platter.

Conclusion: All in all a good experience and would definitely recommend it when on a day out in Portobello.

The food and the coffee were both fairly bland and unimaginative. A lot of thought seems to have gone into being a generic brunch space and not a lot into the quality of what's on offer. I had the Porty Smash and a latte. The food was fairly expensive for what was essentially avocado toast with some mushroom on top, and I had to pay extra to add an egg. It had some kind of weird mayo creamy sauce on it and the whole plate devolved into a goopy mess. The latte turned up when I'd finished eating (even though the cafe was half empty and staff were standing around talking), and I couldn't really get any coffee flavour from it. Luckily, Eat Out to Help Out was on and I only paid for half of it.

Went in for just a lite sandwich but couldn't get it. It was basically just big meals which I thought was strange as it's rite on the beach front they should have a bigger selection as we end up in the high street of portabello something wee didn't want to do as we wanted to sit down at the water it was a beautiful day. Although the place looked very nice an clean so that's why Iv opt for 4 stars

Love the window seat so can watch the world go by! Lovely lunch options generally but clear they had simply slapped the smallest bit of fatty ham on my son's roll. No care, no butter, a disappointment.

So thrilled I decided to try this place! I d been looking longingly in the windows during lockdown, so I was excited when they reopened. I ve been twice and the staff has been so friendly. Today I walked down with my flatmate to celebrate having finished our dissertations, and we found that google was wrong and the hours of business ended at 4, not 6. Hoping for at least a bit of bread and cheese from the grocery part of the shop, I was surprised and so delighted by the kindness of the woman working there. Victoria was so sweet and helpful, going back to the kitchen to check if there was any food left. She was able to get me a delicious scotch egg and recommended a drink to go with it. For my flatmate, she found some quiche. She really went out of her way to make sure we could still eat in spite of the mislabeled hours.
Such a beautiful place to enjoy a meal, and the kindness of the staff means I ll be back plenty of times.

Beautiful cafe UNFORTUNATELY toilets were kept unclean without handsoap or toilet roll - even in the disabled toilets! I mentioned the problem to staff twice but they gave me a dirty look and dismissed me, Couldnt care less. One girl about teens (staff member) just stood gawking out the window not doing any work. Told them i could do a better job with far more enthusiasm... Sorry what are they being paid for?? Certainly not for customer service. Badly trained and poor service!!! Wont be back unless im parched! :-(((
