Really family friendly art gallery with a wonderful exhibition on impressionist at
Love the magic of seeing where at least some of our taxes are spent. A visit leaves me feeling intrigued by the value of art, excited by the creativity of others and proud of our willingness to engage with different visions of the world
The Gallery is great. When you come in, watch the line on the floor, don't pass it. Over all, it's great
Visited the viewing of some of Rembrandt works most enjoyable.
Beautiful collection of Art from Australia, Japan and British empire. We loved our visit.
A great place to take a relaxing stroll and admire art.
My favourite go-to Sunday destination. Great art, the restaurant is lovely and the shop always tempting.
I love this gallery especially the contemporary art section. The entrance is free & they do change the collections every now & then. Best way is to take train to Martin Place, go through the hospital and walk across the Domain.
Fabulous 2019 Archibald Prize until early September. Make time to see it.
Went here to see the ancient Chinese art exhibition. Too much people in the exhibition hall at the Lower Ground 1 level. But the exhibition was very good, it brought me back to the ancient China and made me feel the culture there.
Great Japanese Exhibition ... go see it !! Finishes early March ...
BUT... be very careful of parking outside the gallery... the parking meter signage is designed to confuse you... so as that you think you've done the right thing and then you get hit with an $82 FINE...be warned !!!!
You can see the real paintings of Picasso and Van Gogh, which is hard to come by!
good!
Most of them are Japanese works in the Asian Pavilion and Korean works had 11 minutes of video.
It was quite time-consuming and impressive to see the first floor.
I am satisfied with this quality for free viewing.
Interesting, with lots of art to educate and inspire.
I am not much of an art gallery person but some of the work displayed here is amazing. Worth a check if you are in the area.
Despite all the names of famous artists on the walls outside , most of the stuff is 17th century and newer . Collections are quite small, and certainly not one of the best on this side of the equator. Saving grace is that it's free. You'll eventually cross it if you do a walk around Sydney, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it
So cool. You can find art work from 500 years ago. Moreover visit is free except for special exhibitions. Loved it.
Brett Whitely good but William Kentrridge not to be missed.
Most enjoyable visit. The John Russell collection superb. Informative and a joy to see. Archibald prize overall disappointing only 3 or 4 works of quality and self- portraits should be banned. Wynne very few genuine landscapes.
The Art Gallery of New South Wales is located in the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney. It is a beautiful art gallery with many art treasures. The surrounding environment is very beautiful.
Love that it s free for permanent exhibitions and they do rotation regularly. Seems like they are working on an expansion. Lovely
Could be better. But a gallery shop is good. Don't expect much of the local cafe.
Fabulous! Everything from the outside architecture to the permanent and temporary exhibitions are exceptional!!
Beautiful works from Australia and Europe feature well. Newer exhibitions are from Asia as they become mite prominent and their old asset history is brought pour of the closed and dark attitudes of times gone by.
We saw the Japanese exhibition featuring the demon and spirit world that was a big part of old culture and is the origins of modern day Manga.
We paid special entry $22 .. actually they politely honour senior concession etc too.
The staff told is of the free commentary our starting a short time after our arrival. It was fantastic. The wonderful lady presentation was a delight and told us about the artists and history in a informative, passionate and light hearted manner. A real highlight.
We then spent time in the other galleries ...
everything from Picasso to Tim Roberts !
Get along and see the amazing collection. You will be amazed at what your taxes can offer.
We also are lunch at the bistro bar. Food and service were spot on. Good views too.
The beauty of a gallery. Permanent and free exhibitions, and temporary exhibitions at a fee.
Good range of paintings and sculptures from
classic to modern, including Aboriginal art.
Best of all admission is free.
Free entry. Famous international and local artists artworks available for viewing. Someone was enjoying a birthday there. So I'm guessing you can hire out rooms and hold functions there.
free . And there are pictures and experiences to see
Most of the gallery is fine, particularly the European sections. Today we attended a feature exhibit. Considering the ticket cost and the number of patrons in the exhibit, I didn't feel that I could completely appreciate it. It was noisy and difficult to get an unobstructed visual of most artefacts.
Lovely art museum. They offered a tour of the Archibald prize exhibit which was very good. We visited during a time they were updating several exhibits so we didn't see everything. The classical European gallery was extensive, though I admit I'm more of a contemporary art guy.
An intimate journey into the life of an extraordinary artist - Frida Kahlo. Inspiring and confronting, Frida Kahlo's art is virbrant, raw and honest.
Good to visit on occasions, but doesn't change much.
Love this art gallery, I could sit in front of the paintings for hours. Will continue to visit it.
All round Art Destination Venue wonderful Art, Cafe NSW proud Art Home a must see experience.
A visit to the gallery never ends in disappointment and today was no exception. The Japanese supernatural exhibition was superb from start to finish, throw in the free guided tour and the visit was complete.
Great experience. Especially the public spaces exhibition of John Kolder.
The current (March 2020) curation is of questionable merit.
Does not compare to other international art galleries. But has a nice selection of art, including old East Asian artifacts.
Impressionist painters of the Hermitage currently on display. Well worth a look!
Great art gallery with a surprisingly large collection of contemporary art and good temporary exhibitions.
Appreciate, oil painting and sculpture have quality!
Visited specially for the Masters of Modern Art exhibition, which was well curated and enjoyable, and had a great afternoon wandering through the rest of the museum afterwards. Loved the audio tour, the device worked really well and recognised where we were standing which made choosing the right audio easy. The line at the front desk was lengthy so I bought the tickets on my mobile and then skipped the queue.
Spacious, looks well organised, nice large cafe, free guide, friendly staff.
A beautiful museum that remains to be seen if we visit Sydney.
One of my favorite places to visit
Always something good and I have my old favorites to look at
great contemport selection in the basement... only one Bacon, but better than no Bacon.
Greeted by friendly staff who where very informative. The Gallery has a beautiful collection of sculptures.
The guided tour of the the Archibald Exhibition on a Sunday afternoon was informative but very overcrowded. The two winning potraits provoked extreme emotional responses from Penelope Seidler's haunting portrait of Fiona Lowry to a repulsive Barry Humphries by Tim Storrier. But the soul penetrating eyes in the portraits by Vincent Fantauuzo and Jason Benjamin were surely some of the most outstanding portraits on display.
Very interesting. Special Exhibition super. Have not visited on normal day
Sadly, the artist whose work I wanted to see had been put away because of 21st Biennnale. However I enjoyed many other works.
The first floor is free of charge and the second floor is charged. It is good to be able to see these quality exhibitions at all times free of charge. It is very big and wide. There is a park in front, so it would be nice to take a walk after the exhibition.
Free general entry with full variety of art masterpiece
One of the relaxing museums around Sydney where you can sit and stare at paintings during non peak hours. Look out for that Picasso painting!
Great special exhibition, mediocre regular collection, one of the worst museum staffs.
We checked in 2 bags but only received one card, and even though the staff acted responsible, asking all kinds of questions when I ask for my bag, her attitude was awful, treating me like I wanna steal things not belong to me, and never even apologized for the inconvenience they caused.
If you ve been to Europe and there is no special exhibition going on, you won t miss much not going.
Incredible place with very outstanding works, admission is free!
very good mood lighting, air conditioned to perfection, great security and an even greater range of artworks. Wonderful place to spend the evening.
What an amazing place if you love art. Just go for the famous Australian artists if for no other reason.
Often visit this diverse gallery with its ever changing displays - its art is inspiring. Plus has the best creaking old wooden floors of any Art gallery l have been in - its classic And yes - it's the home of the Archibald Prize.
Lovely gallery with late night entertainment on Wednesday's. This includes talos, gigs and even zine drawning tables. We loved the Tracey Moffat and the Frieda Kahlo exhibits. If you have some time sit outside at the ground floor coffee place!
Sydney's offering is endless and i have been here many times and am always amazed!
Always a great experience. Love that they open late on Wednesdays for us 9 to 5ers
Plenty of free stuff. Mostly modern and contemporary. Great location near the Domain and Botanic Gardens.
We went to the Japan Supernatural exhibit, and thouroughly enjoyed it. Very well put together and presented. Very informative and engaging. The cafe is lovely and not too overpriced. It is a lot of time on your feet, so comfortable shoes are ideal. A few things to interest kids, but more for teens/adults.
The building itself was stunningly beautiful. The exhibitions inside were interesting as well.
Great place to hang out. Good vibe. Good collections of arts.
