Had very few exhibits open whilst there however they were good. Would recommend doing some research of what exhibits are open or not

Early access to the Arthur Streeter exhibition. Easy parking in the Domain car park - all day Saturday pre-booked for $10. Somewhat zealous Covid sign ins - had to register twice - to enter the Gallery and also for the cafe.
Staff friendly and courteous. As usual, I get slightly lost after exiting the exhibition but the staff are always there to guide me back on track.
Loved the exhibition - so many connection points for me Coogee Beach (our beach), Cremorne Point (where we sailed), London (where I'm from), the Blue Mountains (which I love).
Cafe food was good - especially the beef bagel, but as expected, quite expensive. It was pouring with rain so we didn't fancy getting wet going elsewhere.
Friendly free public art place. You could see many Australian artists works here and get further understanding about the Aussie art history.
A splendid and welcoming gallery full of such gems.
Amazing. Need an extra day in the place to absorb..
Went for the Japan Supernatural exhibition and it was incredibly busy. An interesting collection of paintings and small carvings and the perfect place to go on a hot day.
Some very Good works to delight the eye , Indulge yourself , Its all you can see
Good I think they should put the Indigenous gsllery pn the top floor though.
Super place to visit if you are at all artistic....
One place to visit every now and then to nourish your soul.
I love art and enjoy this art gallery, but there is room for improvements. 1.the cafe is overly priced. 2.layout of the artworks and exhibitions need to change. For example Duchamp's exhibition was showcased at the bottom level. Why? 3.you have plenty of tourists who come to visit and the art will be compared to some of best in the world. What does the gallery have to showcase? Nothing! It's quite obvious from the previous comments that Paris, London, etc have some of the best art galleries in the world. Hell, even Melbourne has better art galleries in comparison to the current stands you have.
Lift up your game Art Gallery of NSW, because you have potential but you're lacking in many areas as stated above and many more.
Great concert by Greta Bradman and Tamara Anna Cislowska. Nice Sandwich plate and wine plate before was enjoyable. (Free tickets courtesy of Greta admittedly, but would definitely not have minded paying!)
Was never really in to art galleries, but was blown away by some of the pieces they had there. Especially the classical art and statues. Will have to check out some more galleries.
Such a vibrant bustling gallery that always has something great to see for free, wonderful exhibitions and great atmosphere
Beautiful, simply majestic place for an art lover. Would love to visit the place again
Really classy place to visit on Wednesday evening. Art+excellent dining makes one very happy camper - that's me. Thoroughly recommend giving it a try.
Excellent collection of European and Australian Art, and a great shop. As a European I had hoped to see more Australian Art but that is a personal opinion.
An unexpectedly wonderful place
The aquarium is fully decorated
Very well kept and full of masterpieces. I just spent a couple of hours there, I will come back soon to see more and more!
Classical and modern coexist, the building itself is an art, there is a library in the basement, and art is priceless. Admission is unexpectedly free, and it is worth an afternoon taste.
A great gallery with a big range of art styles and exhibitions.
With excellent art exhibits, and free entry, it's a lovely way to spend an afternoon gazing at these creations. The contemporary art section always has some exciting and crazy installations on that are sure to be a topic of conversation for a while. The cafe serves some pretty good coffee and decent food.
Really nice place, and almost all of it is free as well! Check out Artexpress, which showcases young artists, it is really impressive
Nice changing collection, a lot of aboriginal art and a nice atmosphere.
Very good day spend watching beautiful artwork and paibtio.
Huge diversity in their holdings. Good representation of Australia. Nicely presented by floor and by section. Beautiful.
100% a must visit. Hit up the Opera House, Botanical Gardens then get a Harry's meat pie. Then a quick walk to the art gallery.
This place is very professional, and I was blown away by the art they had on display. Staff is friendly, and I think I had the best internet connection in my entire two week vacation here for free. You could easily spend hours here, but for sure set aside 1-2 at a minimum.
One of my favourite places in Sydney. Always something new to discover. Great coffee too.
The New South Wales Art Gallery is located in Sydney's botanical garden and is an unmissable tourist spot for anyone looking to take a cultural tour and learn more about the country's history from an artistic point of view. Founded in 1871, it features modern and contemporary works from Australia. His collection includes works from the Australian colonial period, Aboriginal art, as well as pieces from Asia and Europe.
A great place to relax and clear your mind looking at the finest
Pretty much a given that we visit here whenever we spend time in the city. This year's Art Express was spectacularly good.
Beautiful collection of aboriginal and even 19th century European art. Any visitor will be entranced by Spring Frost! painting. Great gift center, clean toilets, and there are specialty exhibits that have an admission fee, but the rest of the museum is absolutely free to the public. Purses are allowed, but backpacks will need to be checked free of charge. This museum and its surrounding atmosphere with the Royal Botanical Gardens and a cafe right across the street make it a MUST SEE in SYDNEY. Whether you are a local or traveler, this museum has something for everyone.
Please call in and take a stroll around. It will give you a wonderful experience.
Went there during the Japan Supernatural exhibition. It was a paid exhibition but was well worth every penny. There are also free areas of the gallery for those who are under a tight budget but still want to experience art.
An amazing collection always. Rembrant and the Dutch masters is worth a look. Get a audio tour to make it more interesting.
Absolute must, something for everyone. The exhibitions are always great too.
Amazing place to visit, It is free and you can enjoy beautifull art.
The Lady and Unicorn exhibition was great. Very interesting permanent exhibitions. Cafe could do with an update and better queue management.
Great Collection of Australian and international art in both free and paid exhibits. Be sure to check out their curated film program playing at the Domain Theatre!
Very nice museum with great paintings, easily walkable, with seats to ease the feet.
The Art Gallery of NSW has wonderful exhibitions to see from the old masters to innovative contemporary artists- there is something everyone. Cafe also has a nice view. I look forward to seeing this years exhibitions.
One of my most favourite places to visit !! I could spend hours wandering around the gallery and the staff are always so friendly !! A wonderful collection of paintings and a great display of Australian art as well :)
Lovely place with ever rotating artworks. Constantly have new exhibitions and is always a treat to visit.
as at November 2020 it is a safe, well managed venue. Covid Marshall in every room. Crowd sizes are well managed. Cloakroom is closed so keep your bags light. My favourite route to the gallery is via Wynyard Station. Walk across the lower city for 3 blocks, through the State Library, across the Domain and you're there. Or you can park in the Domain Car Park and walk up the hill. The internal cafe is closed so grab your coffee in the Domain.
The galleries are large and airy with beautiful Australian artists works.
it is a National Treasure - great for kids with painting/drawing activities and a kids trail through the gallery
Selling $15 to poncy type folks is a pretty questionable practice but the art was great
Awe inspiring seeing the famous paintings and sculptures that I have only ever seen in books before.
Spacious and architecturally impressive gallery. Valuable collections are displayed, it might take much more time to discover all the works there than you expected. Ticketed exhibitions worth the money besides all other free stuffs
One of my favourite places John Russell exhibition pictures displayed well - we could do with larger type on some of the picture descriptions...great cafe with excellent staff
Very accessible gallery with a good Australian selection - free to enter permanent collections.
The Archibalds were great but it is an ecpensive outing.
Great permanent and moving exhibitions. Excellent facilities and helpful staff
Great art gallery - has a wide variety of art types and is a good size to visit in one day, not too overwhelming. We went to art after dark which was a good experience.
