I stayed for Labor Day Weekend. My room was clean, the staff was courteous, and the car shuttle was very convenient as long as u were going within a 3 mile radius. The location of this hotel is great as it is in a nice neighborhood. I would definitely stay here again if I visit the Santa Monica area again.

Hilary at the front desk is beyond amazing! The stay wouldn't have been half of what it was without her. She gave us tips, told us about local restaurants, served us happy hour wines, and checked up on me and my guest at least 3x while doing work near the outside fireplace. The hotel itself is lovely with a great outdoor patio to do work and safe, open-air spaces to feel appropriately socially distant from other guests. The amenities are new and decor is great. Would recommend, but especially because of Hilary!

I had made plans originally with another hotel for my boyfriends birthday weekend and it turned out totally not what was expected, ended up needing to cancel and find a new place last minute and so we found Ambrose. We called to get information and they were very kind and helpful, booked two nights with them and could not have asked for a better choice. When we arrived we were quite upset having most of are evening ruined by the last hotel, and Danny, at the front desk at the time, was so warming and accommodating to us, he made sure we were satisfied and made us feel at home and more. There is complimentary wine and beer in the lounge from 6-8 which was we loved, and the outdoor fire place was beautiful! The room was very pretty, and clean, and the bed was very comfy. Alfred at the front desk made our departure from our getaway really nice, by taking some lovely pictures of us, so we had for memories of our lovely stay! All the front desk clerks were very kind. Highly recommend this place, is in a wonderful location, quite and close to some eateries, not to mention very close to all the fun in Santa Monica! We will be back again!!

Beautiful hotel with clean rooms, friendly staff. Very pricey! Beware, there is a $30 charge for parking! That is on top of the $400+ room charge. No restaurant at the time we stayed but it is located close to many others.

Very nice accommodations. Gated self-parking on site. Guest registration lot is only 2 spots. Complimentary breakfast. Complimentary tea/coffee/water 24/7. Night front desk clerk could be more personable. The rest of the staff was very courteous. Recommended.

Decent enough room, better size then a traditional hotel room. Great location and updated. Only reason its not a 5 is there were no in-room amenities (coffee machine, fridge) and had to ask the front desk for everything in between.

My family stayed here when they came to visit. Great location with restaurants and shopping walking distance. Similar rate with other hotels in area, but this is a lovely unique hotel with very nice amenities for the price and is more service oriented than the chain hotels. Service was very prompt and everyone was really nice. We would definitely stay again and would recommend it to friends.

Would have rated a little higher but the kitchen is under construction so no food! Comfy beds tho. Staff is more than helpful and friendly. We had to extend our visit for medical reasons and they were gracious and happy to help!

This hotel in Santa Monica is really nice, with its terrace and its outdoor fireplace... lovely! Moreover the staff is so kind, especially Alde (if I don't misspell it) who is always smiling every morning at the breakfast buffet :)
As it's situated a bit far from the beach, you can be offered a shuttle to go there for free, or you can borrow bikes ! Nice way to stay in a quiet place but still being able to go to the ocean easily !

Short version: it's a 3 star hotel, cheaper than the rest. It's clean, but dinged up and worn out. I stayed on the second floor and it was in desperate need of a do-over: There was a huge gloppy carpet stain outside our door and many along the halls, dinged up furniture, saggy chair, dresser drawer that wouldn't stay closed but kept rolling open (had to wedge paper to keep it closed), skip the gross nonfat yoghourt and bad coffee "breakfast" and go to the whole foods on Wilshire for a nice muffin and coffee. It's in the HOSPITAL district: ambulance sirens and a lot of traffic noise.

Currently (January 2015) the ground floor is under construction and intermittently a lot of noise can come up. If you have to stay here, ask for the highest, quietest room and ask when they last remodeled the floor you're going to stay on. I won't be staying there again.

I trust this hotel. Many of our guests from Japan request to stay near the beach, but they do not like to be in noisy areas.

As far as I know, the front is very attentive. One time I called them to check on my guest and they did!

A small boutique hotel that makes you feel like you are there for a retreat.

Very big and comfortable room. Very big TV. Comfortable desk.
The bathroom nice and bog but the shower a little bit akward. You cant control the stream, just the temperature.
The breakfast is nice: yogurts, pasrtys, bread, oatmeal, kelogs, fruit salad and hot drink.
The front desk super nice and helpful.
There is a free deiver to the shore.
Didnt gave the place 5 stars because of the shower and the high price.

The Hotel itself was quiet, clean, and had a rustic feel amongst the urban sprawl. The driving service they offer is very convenient, but it can take a while. The staff were all polite and professional. I enjoyed my stay and would return.

Almost very nice! The room was nice and spacious, nice continental breakfast, courteous car service, great size TV, front desk very friendly. Now the other side of the picture - housekeeping did not clean my room, the carpet area by the bed was wet, my son who paid for my room did not receive the discount offered him by check-in clerk, my grandson (age 2 1/2) staying in another room with his mother found a condom wrapper in one of the drawers.

Parking isn't free although I went there because I read a review that said it was. The hotel was very warm and classy and the service was great. My room was clean but it was a cramped room with two full beds for one gal on a biz trip. The one window was the size of a car windshield and if I opened the curtains and office building could see my biz-ness. I would stay here again but only if I could get a better room.

I ACTUALLY BOOKED A ROOM HERE FOR 4-13-19 TO 4-14-19 I WAS HEADING THERE FROM CORCORAN CALIFORNIA 3 HOURS AWAY AND GOT A CALL THAT MY ROOM WAS CANCELED DUE TO GUESTS EXTENDING THEIR STAY . THEY DID HOWEVER BOOK ME ANOTHER HOTEL CLOSER TO SANTA MONICA BEACH AND COVERED ALL EXPENSIVE . I UNDERSTAND THINGS HAPPEN AND I REALLY APPRECIATE THEM FOR STILL TAKING CARE OF ME AND MY FAMILY.

I have stayed here multiple times because of the location. It has been a nice, craftsman style place to stay. However it is in need of upkeep.

Rooms are good sized. Ask for a courtyard room.
Breakfast is free and is above normal continental.
TVs in room are big tube screens, no HD here.
Carpet needs the be ripped out and replaced. (Agree with other review about big stain on 2nd Floor.)
Parking is not free.
If you want a place where you can walk to bars or food, head towards the ocean.

Glad to see they are revamping the place.

Nice clean hotel. The bed was a little squishy. We had a room beside the laundry room I think, someone was pushing a cart around all night. It was a little noisy. Over all, friendly staff and a decent place to stay.

Almost a perfect experience. I stayed here for 3 nights for the first time. I will certainly stay again. Small hotel but very updated and clean. Nice patio area. Staff is great. My one complaint is that thru claim breakfast starts at 6:30 am. The three days I was here they never had breakfast ready until 6:45-7. They basically start bringing all the stuff out at 6:30. Kind of annoying but not worth missing out on this nice little gem.

the rooms were very nice. free wifi was great. complimentary breakfast was a little bit lacking. parking was easy to access and free, so excellent. all amenities were available. the location was in a good spot to get to everywhere i needed to go, including hiking. free bikes were available which i wouldve used if i didnt have a rental car. beds were ok, the pillows were a little stiff. staff was helpful.

I'm not a booze-hound, but if I were, this would be the place for me. Minibar and fridge in the room and free cocktails in the lobby from 6-8pm.

Room was clean and decor was upscale without being overly-obtuse.

My one frustration was the exorbitant parking fee of 30 dollars per day. Adding that to the total brought the overall cost for a nights stay to a little over three hundred dollars.

All in all a bit pricey, but very clean and well-kept.

The bed was very comfortable and that is the best thing I can say about this overpriced hotel. They pride themselves of thinking of the environment but the (otherwise industrial, not freshly squeezed) orange juice at breakfast is served in plastic cups. The bread is clearly not fresh and served straight out of a plastic bag, there is no service and your table is not cleared of dirty dishes. They charge 25 dollars for you to park on top of your expensive room rate. The beautiful garden you see on the pictures is tiny and you basically sit facing a big wall.

Really nice hotel with great rooms, top notch. Location was a little farther than we wanted from the beach, but they have a free shuttle that you can use for drop off, and pick up upon request. Nice breakfast in the open courtyard. Staff was really pleasant.

This is a very elegant hotel. I am grateful to have a friend drag me along and pay for a room for 5 nights. The beds are comfortable and the restrooms are chic. Also the courtyard and breakfast room/bar are elegant. The staff is friendly classy and welcoming too. From staying on other hotels in my lifetime, the Ambrose's number 1 feature is its outstandingly healthy breakfast options on its buffet - especially for the fact that it's in a beach destination. The beach is 2 miles away (according to Google maps). I find it a good excercise walk, and I Ubered in time crunch circumstances. The Uber map is like flies on a screen door, so a ride to the beach is fast to arrive and low-cost-by-the-unit-ride. BUT WARNING: Uber is so excessively and comfortably reliable that it is ADDICTIVE here and trips really seriously add up. Using Uber to squeeze in a lot of fun and activities totalled me (including well deserved tips) a cost of about 150 dollars. For the most part, the hotel is a terrific place to stay. The reason I can't give it a full 5 stars is that it's fitness center did not have any safe quality upper body workout equipment, which it has standard lower body workout and cardio equipment but those areas are covered by the long walks to tbe beach. To my opinion, a beach hotel should have a quality gym because beach visitors want their bodies at their best on a beach trip. Overall, I would still quite strongly recommend this hotel for its quietness, classy staff, nice rooms, and espcially for the breakfast buffet.
