Dances with Films hosted by TCL Chinese. Such a unique and great indie Festival in a great venue. There's a full bar great snacks beautiful visuals impeccable sound centrally located. Plus everything in the Hollywood Highland complex. Parking was simple and easy and reasonable. Tons of great films to choose from. The only drawback is that the water fountain doesn't work and the bottles of water are $6

beautifully restored, spectacular 1920s movie palace. the sound and the picture are as good as it gets. and they'll have costume displays in the lobby. great way to spend an evening, followed by drinks at the library bar in the roosevelt hotel across the street.
I brought my whole family here on my birthday so my 2year old daughter could experience watching a full-length movie for the first time, other than the short flicks we usually watch at theme parks and Science centers. Dad didn t know I have been planning it for a long time. I went to the website, looked for promotions, and found a gem : the free VIP Rewards Program! You get: (1)Discount Days on Tuesdays where movies are only worth $8 if purchased in-theatre; (2)Free Tickets on your birthday: either 1 free iMax ticket or 4 VIP Tour Tickets; (3) Free popcorn upgrades; (4)Invitations to Exclusive Benefits; and (5)Chance to win a TCL TV and other exclusive perks. It s only for a limited time, so I called them first to make sure we could claim the rewards on the day of our visit. The staff members where all so amiable and polite. We watched How to Train Your Dragon II . There were only a few people, but since we went as a family, we enjoyed it a lot. It was an educational tour. I was glad that my middle schooler learned something new about history, cultures, and entertainment. It was chilly when we went there, but we stayed outside for a while to enjoy the view of the facade and the handprints of celebrities. It was a very inexpensive birthday celebration, and we even got our parking ticket validated.
Noteworthy theatre in the middle of Hollywood Boulevard with hand prints, foot prints, and signatures in cement of many different actors and directors that have been part of Hollywood and the movie scene in Southern California. Very cool looking theatre that offers tours, movie showings, and premieres.
Very cool and iconic spot. A lot of hand and foot prints of celebrities. Not much to see at night. Didn t go in for a movie. A quick 10-15min visit. If you are in Hollywood you should walk by for sure.
A lot of great event's happen in this venue. Like film festival, panels, red carpets and regular screening. Also they have a bar that offer great deals like 2 for 1 drinks.
A classic theater with a classic feel featuring photos of Hollywood stars in addition to costume pieces from famous films The snack bar was EXTREMELY pricey but overall the theater itself was nice, comfortable, and fun to explore
Always fun to see all the hand prints, foot prints and signatures. I just wish there was a map so if you were looking for a particular one it would be easier.
Great experience and amazing screen. Felt like you are part of Hollywood. And nachos cheese was actually hot and soda was chilled, bubbly, and perfect.
If you don't want your seat to lean back then sit up right and plant your souls to the ground directly in front.
if your into Hollywood nostalgia, this is a great spot for it. busy place. def some characters walking hollywood blvd, keep your purses and wallets close
They have it nice and clean out in front but it s definitely sort of a scam tourist trap out in front even to have your photograph taken. They have a lot of hand prints signatures and foot prints inside of the concrete but not much else to see. Also, beware of the predatory characters out in front they will step on your feet, touch you, put their hands on you and your belongings. It can be very unsafe for women and children traveling alone.
This trip was absolutely fascinating! The Chinese Theatre really feels authentic which is awesome. The walk of fame and concrete plaques were amazing as well. Even though there were quite a few people, it was easy to maneuver and get pictures. I highly recommend going during January when it is comfortable outside and it s not overly-crowded.
Great Experience! Loved the Huge 3D IMAX Theatre. I enjoyed my time here. The bathrooms were a bit odd being underground but nice.
Parking here for a movie was $17, which was a bit odd of a structure as there are several underground levels, and don't forget to drive to the center to get near the elevators!
Movie Ticket for myself was $21, a bit pricey but not a big deal, it is LA after all.
This place has a few things around it for shopping or grabbing a bite to eat.
If you have never been here, For about $40 I recommend trying it at least once!
Great place and a must see when in LA. Tale lots of pictures! Look out for the panhandlers in costumes they get pretty aggressive just ignore them and they ll go away.
Great tourist site. You can either zip in and out with some quick pictures or do a lot more in depth looking around including a tour. Lots of shopping nearby. Decent street musicians.
Didn't go inside but the stars outside have been neglected. Place is rundown and dirty. People trying to sell you trips and tours. Very busy and hot and I was glad to leave to be honest. Wouldn't go back.
Very well maintained and clean. Enjoy watching show there. Like the popcorn and I get kids set which is more than enough for me to share with my husband.
Normally I cannot stand crowded movie theaters. This Imax experience was completely different! We had an awesome time! I was mesmerized by the ultimate movie from Marvel and the Avengers Endgame was a movie i will not forget! The crowd was so into the movie!
It is one of those places tourists must go and take pictures. It does look a lot nicer than last time I was here. It must has something to do with the change of name.
Great place to visit to see famous entertainment peoples' hand and foot marks, the outside is really nice, and there is a projection show every 15 mins.
What a wonderful time to see Shirley Temple's footprints! And Tom Hanks! The footprints in cement are wonderful memories and we enjoyed such a wonderful visit here in Los Angeles.
The world famous Chinese Theater on the Hollywood walk of Fame has to be one of the best known attractions the city of Angeles has to offer. I tend to take visitors and start there, it's iconic appearance and all of the Stars hand/foot prints make for a great stroll through Hollywood history. The theater is super nice as well!
Iconic. Very fun to take the family. Good place to start a family day. Quite a lot to do that originates there or very close (tours, wax museum, museums, etc). Great, plentiful photo opportunities.
Chinese theater is the most popular scene spot of Los Angles. There are many cosplayer (just like iron man, spider man or wonder woman) on the street. Unfortunately, I saw those cosplayers help one tourist take pictures in just few seconds, and they ask that tourist USD 100/person. If anyone face this situation, please call the police officer.
- Otherwise, there re a lot of homeless on this street. I know that s a normal situation in the big city. Maybe the related department can provide several methods to manage or to tutor them toward to the right way in their life.
- Is this place worth to visit ? Probably not. Only a lot of useless hands prints on the floor. I think that is important to solve these intractable social problem(deception, pickpocket, thief, homeless...etc)for government.
TCL Chinese Theatre was named on 2013. Before that it was selected as the location for Oscar awards ceremony during 1944 to 1966. The front of the gateway is a space full of names, handprints, and footprints. I just wonder, wouldn't that make walking difficult?
Wonderful, I invited a girlfriend visiting from China to the AFI festival to see a great Italian film "The Traitor" We really enjoyed the movie, but we also enjoyed the atmosphere and the beautiful architecture, she took a lots of pictures.
Why should you take a time out and experience the 3rd largest IMAX screen in the world at the historic Chinese Theatre now operated by TCL? Because no matter what you think you have at home, this 1,200 seat historic movie palace will WOW you with incredible sound and projection but also the ornate exterior and interior that has been meticulously restored. Yes, they have daily scheduled tours even when a movie presentation is on the giant IMAX screen, but to really make it a full experience, see a movie on the IMAX screen too! Also, the stadium style seating has great sightlines. And the highback seats all rock and are really comfortable and clean. There are cupholders in every seat arm. There are costume and prop displays inside the lobby. The snack bar has everything including a fully stocked bar (for those 21 and over with ID). Before the film begins, a theatre employee at the front of the screen welcomes everyone, reminds you about theatre etiquette and cell phone sounds in the off position, and a few quick pieces of info about the film you are seeing and then it's time for the show! Firat class amazing sound and projection like you've never experienced make the premium price tag of the ticket worth it. There is an adjacent LA Metro Red Line subway stop built into the Hollywood and Highland complex. When you exit the station, turn right and walk a half block and you're right there! If you drive, you can get 4 hours of validated parking for $3 if you see a movie there. That is a great deal given the high cost to park in that area amidst all of the hustle and bustle of Hollywood Boulevard. At night, you can experience an outdoor free movie themed video projection presentation that has been mapped to the contours and shape of the exterior of the building. The best vantage point is to view from across Hollywood Boulevard from the sidewalk there. You're still able to hear the soundtracm and you can view the entire facade of the main Chinese Theatre. There is usually a posted sign about the night time show's frequency or check with the usher standing at the entrance. There are still those awesome handprints, footprints, and signatures of movie stars from past to present in the exterior courtyard. Going to a movie here becomes more than just seeing a movie and will be an experience you will remember for a lifetime. It's worth the time, effort, and money!
This is my preferred theater of choice not only due to its historical significance within Hollywood lore but also to the fact that it is, hands down, THE BEST AVAILABLE EXAMPLE of IMAX Laser 3D AND 4DX in town. Long Live The Chinese Theater!!
Watched Star Wars: the Rise of Skywalker in true IMAX. The best way to enjoy this extraordinary cinematic experience! Ginormous screen, earth-shattering bass of the sound system; seats are comfortable & do recline,, albeit s tad dated; the greeter/ticket taker was so courteous & pleasant. Park at the huge Hollywood and Highland parking structure, $2 for 4 hours with validation. After the movie, took a stroll to check out every level of this huge complex. So worthy of every penny & every second!
Mostly a tourist attraction, but they have great showings and I don't think many of us locals take advantage of this beautiful place. Just take the train and get out at Hollywood & Highland to avoid all the traffic and parking issues.
The Chinese Theatre is a must see inside and out. There's so much Hollywood history here, that it's obvious why this is tourist trap central. So yes, you will be navigating around throngs of out of towners. Yes, you will have to dip past the costumes characters, celebrity imitators, buskers, and artists. But once you get to the forecourt, you will be taking a part in a tradition that all visitors to the Chinese have enjoyed. You look down and start seeing the names and handprints of Hollywood legends, past and present. You place your hands where theirs once were, and you are connected through time. And who knows, someday it may be you who will be immortalized here.
I would say most people go no further than the forecourt, and that's fair, there's so much to do in LA. But I think it would be a mistake to not see the inside. The ornate decorum is not just on the outside. The inside is breathtaking. There are two ways you're going to get to see the inside. One is by walking tour which will tell you about all the history of this legendary theatre. The other is by actually watching a movie. The theatre was revamped a few years back when TCL bought the place, and turned into the flagship IMAX screen in the Los Angeles area. For my money, this is the finest place to watch a film on the big screen.
So, do yourself a favor and fight that instinct to avoid touristy areas. If you claim to like movies, then this place is your home.
I love this place for hollywood events and premieres. The last movie I saw there was Halloween last October and I gotta say the whole experience of seeing the movie with the cast is unforgettable. Also running into your favorite celebrities on your way to the restroom is the best! I ran into Marilyn Manson on my way there and he was so cool. He was so down to earth and he even took a selfie with me. He grabbed my phone himself and took it. So I gotta say the Chinese theater will always hold beautiful memories for me.
Great iconic movie theatre that was updated from its original form. Came to see Star Wars and place is awesome. They have many other screen viewing in here. Would definitely come back again. They also have a 4D movie viewing section where you actually have the seat move and you smell scents whole viewing the movie in 4D.
A must visit LA tourist place. Lots of people and stores. You can park your car next to the Hollywood blvd parking garage and pay only $2 if you purchase anything in the TCL Chinese theater mall. We bought a iced tea in the store and only paid $2 for the parking.
It is a historical place of the entertainment business to visit if you are in LA. I recommend to check Sid Grauman story before your visit to better understand the story behind the place and it's legacy
Didn t go inside but you really don t have to. It s fun just to walk around the courtyard and see all the cement blocks from stars. Cool to compare hands and feet and they all wrote their message or just sign. Pretty cool and my 7year old daughter enjoyed it too.
It was busy. Cool to see how far back that there are signatures from. It's cool to see it lit up at night if you stay long enough. Stay to check out all the other sites as well
You Come to Hollywood..a wonderful place to visit with the handprint on the floor on the front and you can watch a movie not so cheap but after thousand miles of plane, you need it . ...to those Who love cinema culture
This place can be crowded, particularly during daytime and weekends. There is nothing much to do there besides taking pictures with famous celeb/Hollywood starts footprints and handprints on the cement floor right in front of the theater. However, you can compliment your LA sightseeing schedule with this place for 30 min to enjoy the crowed.
State of the art sound and projection in a classic, beautiful art deco theater. This location is steeped in film making history unlike any other place on Earth.
We wanted to experience a movie in the main theater, but it was closed because of a Premiere happening later that day. But we still had a lot of fun watching a movie there.
Didn't go inside but it is a nice landmark. Completely over-run with people dressed up trying to get money and men handing out CD's for "free" (they're not free) which makes it hard to spend much time there.
Historic. Terrific location for The Joker opening night... architecture was the perfect backdrop. Seating is a bit crowded, but it is an older style theater. -- Proximit associated parking can be a bit pricey & significantly adds to the cost. But, it is the original Chinese Theatre. How can you not go there....
Very crowded basically all the time! Always have a lot of tourists. It s definitely something to see if you go to LA. The TCL theatre looks significantly more extravagant than other movie theatres. And it s nice structure is great for a photo. It s a better view from across the street.
Beautiful and historic from a bygone era. Interesting place to visit. Lots of gand and footprints. Bustling busy place. Always super heroes nearby looking for photo ops. Great tourist attraction.
