Why should you take a time out and experience the 3rd largest IMAX screen in the world at the historic Chinese Theatre now operated by TCL? Because no matter what you think you have at home, this 1,200 seat historic movie palace will WOW you with incredible sound and projection but also the ornate exterior and interior that has been meticulously restored.
Yes, they have daily scheduled tours even when a movie presentation is on the giant IMAX screen, but to really make it a full experience, see a movie on the IMAX screen too!
Also, the stadium style seating has great sightlines. And the highback seats all rock and are really comfortable and clean. There are cupholders in every seat arm.
There are costume and prop displays inside the lobby.
The snack bar has everything including a fully stocked bar (for those 21 and over with ID).
Before the film begins, a theatre employee at the front of the screen welcomes everyone, reminds you about theatre etiquette and cell phone sounds in the off position, and a few quick pieces of info about the film you are seeing and then it's time for the show!
Firat class amazing sound and projection like you've never experienced make the premium price tag of the ticket worth it.
There is an adjacent LA Metro Red Line subway stop built into the Hollywood and Highland complex. When you exit the station, turn right and walk a half block and you're right there!
If you drive, you can get 4 hours of validated parking for $3 if you see a movie there. That is a great deal given the high cost to park in that area amidst all of the hustle and bustle of Hollywood Boulevard.
At night, you can experience an outdoor free movie themed video projection presentation that has been mapped to the contours and shape of the exterior of the building. The best vantage point is to view from across Hollywood Boulevard from the sidewalk there. You're still able to hear the soundtracm and you can view the entire facade of the main Chinese Theatre. There is usually a posted sign about the night time show's frequency or check with the usher standing at the entrance.
There are still those awesome handprints, footprints, and signatures of movie stars from past to present in the exterior courtyard.
Going to a movie here becomes more than just seeing a movie and will be an experience you will remember for a lifetime. It's worth the time, effort, and money!
