Nigel is truly talented and a pleasure to work with. He assured me that my dress would be finished in time for my wedding and rest assured it was. He even left me a sweet note wishing me all the best with my new journey in married life. Also if you catch him singing it s definitely not a bad thing... he has a great voice! Thank you Nigel for everything!

I had a custom suit made for me here and let me tell you something. It. Is. Amazing. I received multiple compliments when I first wore it out. I will definitely be coming back to have another one done when the time is right. For the time being, I'll look in to a shirt.

Come and you won't regret it! The price does display a premium, but if you bring in priceless pieces to get fitted then you won't regret it.

When I first moved to NYC, I knew I needed a good tailor. Every grown man should have a few essential things.. a great tailor is one of them. I looked around everywhere, read reviews all over the place, and finally saw read Tailors Atelier's review, and decided to give it a shot. One of the best decisions I've made living here in NYC. Nigel and his staff take GREAT care of you, and treat you like family the moment you walk in. You can really tell a lot about a tailor by the way they dress as well. Nigel is always dressed sharply, with a nice crisp well tailored suit every time I have gone in there. He is a perfectionist, and calling his work stellar is an understatement. The man knows exactly what he's doing with impecable taste. His work is of quality and precision. And he loves what he's doing, and you can see that reflecting from his work. I highly recommend Tailors Atelier, they take good care of you, customer service is superb, and the work here is just simply great.

I'm honestly disappointed. I had my maid of honor dress simply shortened, and it cost $100. Not only is that exorbitant for a simple hem, but when I picked up the dress, nobody was there paying attention to my satisfaction.

Perhaps the worst part was that the dress is extremely wrinkled at the bottom. The garment bag I brought it in is too short for the dress, so I would have expected them to steam the dress and put it in plastic. Now I have to stress about steaming it before the wedding. My expectation, especially when paying a premium, is that the garment is ready to wear. I won't be going back.

Tailors Atelier did an awesome job altering the blouse piece of an Indian Lehengha for my wedding! When I wasn't 100% happy after the first alteration (not due to anything that was altered incorrectly the first time), they fixed it at no additional cost, even though it was a new cut / part of the blouse that needed to be adjusted. Totally worth the cost for special occasion attire

I came here in 2017. It was an absolute disaster and an expensive lesson.

They are well rated on Yelp because somehow, negative ratings seem to get removed. I had my rating removed shortly after it was written. I hope Google does not allow this here.

I came here 5 days before my best friend's destination wedding in Hawaii to have my groomsman suit tailored. I told them this and they said it would be ready in 4 days.

Good, lots of time to spare I thought -- they said it was a lot of work since I needed to take the sides in, shorten jacket, shorten the sleeves, etc.

I was quoted the price and it was much much higher than I wanted to pay; about double what I expected. But they had really good reviews, so I figured, let's just do it, so I could actually wear it again. How wrong I was.

I came back 4 days later, and they told me it wasn't ready (!). They had PROMISED me it would be done by then and I had reiterated that I was leaving immediately after work the very next day for Hawaii. They said it would be done, and it wasn't.

He told me I needed to come back the next day and there was nothing they could do. This annoyed me further. They screw up and they saw no problem in pushing to the absolute last minute for me? I told them my situation way in advance and they had assured me it would be done, and I specifically paid a premium expecting promises to be kept. They should have stayed late and delivered on their end.... I was very angry.

But I had no choice, I needed the suit and there was no compromise.

I took off early from work and got here by 3:30PM. It was "ready", if you stretched the definition of the word to its very limit.

My suit was an absolute disaster. I don't get much tailoring work done, but even to my inexperienced eye, I could see it was shoddy work. The stitching for the shoulder was not even done, the inside lining was MISSING and there were open seams all over, and one of my jacket buttons was missing. Yes, simply and incredibly, MISSING. This was just amongst a slew of other glaring issues.

I was livid. I literally had 2 hours to get to the airport to make my flight, so I had no time to argue and have them fix everything I saw wrong, aside from making them sew the damn button back on.

Later on, after thinking back on it, I felt that they must have pushed it to the last minute on purpose so I wouldn't have time to argue with them.

I ended up just throwing the suit away and took my complaint to Yelp instead.

I received an e-mail saying my review was removed a couple days after I posted it. I'm not sure what is happening there behind the scenes, but it made a lot more sense why this place is rated so highly. There is absolutely no way someone who puts out this poor quality of work would have so few negative reviews.

I sincerely hope Google does not remove reviews like Yelp does.

Update: And recompense, I did. By writing this in complete honesty about my experience on a forum that does not censor. And lastly, I reiterate, my review was removed, so who knows how many other negative experiences were deleted?

Nigel's fashion sense and the quality of the tailoring are both top notch! He not only knows how to do the alterations, but more importantly he knows which alterations to do to make a garment work. He's done beautiful work for me, as well as amazing work for my wife--including recutting a slightly dated Armani black label suit to make it contemporary. Nice job Nigel!
This is a family business with pleasant, helpful and caring people who provide a quality service. A sharp suit is easy--a sharp tailor is not. I can't recommend Nigel and Tailor's Atelier more highly!

We were in town for a wedding. The bride had brought her dress here to be altered and we had a problem with our bridesmaid dress. Nigel was so helpful and nice, everyone we met at his shop was great. We are so happy we met him!

Amazing tailor! Nigel is very detailed oriented and makes sure every piece is done perfectly. I have gone for a number of items, mostly jeans/pants, which I had to have the waist taken in. They all fit very well now and you can t even tell where they were re-sewn. Everyone in the shop is extremely nice and they also have great customer service. Highly recommend for any of your tailoring needs.

I brought two pairs of pants to be hemmed. Was told it would take a day or two. Not surprised, but I did let Nigel know I wished they could be done sooner. It was my fault for bringing them at the last second.
I couldn't believe when he called a few hours later saying they were finished. I wasn't able to pick them up before he closed so he delivered them to my building.
1st class service, 1st class job. Nigel was a pleasure to work with. I'll be bringing all my clothes to him to be fitted.

This review is well overdue. I wanted to get a custom shirt for my son's baptism last year, but was hesitant to pull the trigger. Finally I made an appointment and oh man, what a treat this was. The service is one of a kind and his attention to detail is phenomenal. The customer service and one on one attention Jerry gave me was better than walking into a Cadillac dealership. Once you get a shirt from Tailors Atelier, you'll never buy a shirt off the rack again. I'm actually due for another shirt, see you soon Jerry!!

Honestly really surprised by all the 5-star reviews. Their work is fine, but does not strike me as exceptional given the exorbitant prices they charge. To be fair, I haven't gotten anything really crazy fixed up by these guys (see some good reviews for like leather jackets and stuff, so if that's your deal maybe then this is a good spot), but this is *not* the spot for your basic tailor alterations. Got a suit tightened up and it was returned with tons of loose strings and extra bits of cloth that I had to snip at home, which is not a big deal but made me feel a little irked at paying $160 for a jacket alteration and a hemming. Took some other pants here to get tapered and it was $55, which is honestly just outrageous for a pair of khaki pants. The work was good, but the pricing is ridiculous. Plus, they're really slow/backed up--took a week and a half to get my pants tapered.

I've started going out to Bushwick where I get my pants tapered in two days for $8 at Green Cleaners on Wyckoff. That place is worth the trip. Wish I could say the same about these folks.

I also posted a similar review on another review website. I was not happy with the work on a blazer. It was a recut and it now fits terribly. It is unwearable at this point. On top of this, the cuff buttons do not lay flat because they were sewn incorrectly. I won't be returning and would not recommend.

A place you want to like. Sadly, outrageous prices and the slight feeling they're waiting to charge you for every stitch means I'm unlikely to go back. He's a gifted tailor, so this is a great place if you need hand-made, or truly expert tailoring done. Save your best pieces for here. It is worth the price. If you want a hem, or something silly done, go to your local laundry.

Hard to put it into words, but I'll try. I talk about Nigel to all of my friends. I have taken clothes in there twice and am heading in for my third trip tomorrow. Decided to write my review now because I have been meaning to do it. I have always had a problem fitting into the clothes I like (I am short and petite with a small chest) Most everything does not fit right. I also love vintage and antique clothing. Everything I have brought in has been fit to perfection and fixed to perfection. I actually get clothes now that I love and even if they are slightly wrong I know they won't be after I take them to Nigel's. Everyone there is lovely and I make the commute from Carroll gardens without regrets. Thank you everyone at Tailors Atelier. Xx

Worst sewing store I ve ever went to. Horrible service.
Illigal. You ask one thing they do the other.

Beside being too expensive, you get a Bad service. And for dessert a disturbing and rude supervisor.

After that I realized how much the quality is bad!:(

The receptionist doesn t know English and ignored what I was asking her to do...

Waiting time is also.. ridiculously long

An hour work took them more than 2 weeks!

Just don t go there

I've had several dress pants tailored here, and I could not be more pleased with the service. Nigel is professional and personable, and provides excellent quality work. He guarantees his tailoring, which means you're going to get the quality and fit that you want.
Do yourself a favor and come here for excellent tailoring.

They are simply great! I've been here two times, the first time I needed a shirt fixed form the sleeves. I was welcomed and given a dressing room to put the shirt on so they could do the markings and what not. They did a great job with that shirt. Knowing they are good, I came back later for alterations on another shirt I had recently purchased from YSL. This time I wanted it tapered. As I was paying I was told the shirt would be ready in 2 weeks. That's reasonable but I was leaving on a long trip in a little over a week..so 2 weeks wouldn't work. The lady asked the tailor if in one week was fine to which he gladly agreed. I was relived and felt happy, and as I took my card out thinking there would surely be an extra charge for a much faster work (and I didn't mind), the lady said it was fine, no extra charge. I picked up the shirt a week later and of course it fit so well!
