I ve had to use the er once already this year and my family has used surgery services here at Swedes three times already. I wouldn t go anywhere else. We got good care in the er, Surgicare, and just all around with the nurses, doctors, anesthesiologists! . It was a busy place, but I still felt well taken care of. I would rather see it busy than no one there, just means they really are the best. Thanks again! Hope not to have to come back, but would if I had to!

Every time I've had the bad idea of going to Swedi...

Every time I've had the bad idea of going to Swedish American I've had bad experiences. I was in there for over 2 hours this time waiting to see a doctor for chest pains, light headed, and shortness of breath. I didn't get to see a doctor till I asked for my discharge papers. I couldn't handle the rudeness of the nurses. The blood pressure cuff was so tight it left bruises on my arm and the nurse got upset with dr when I took it off. When she yanked the IV out it hurt so bad I came to St. Anthony to see if she screwed something up.

I ended coming back to Swedish American hospital again on 04/05/18 because I was involved in a very bad car accident. It's now 04/13/18 and I'm still here. Since I've been in here I had a nurse try to put a compression cuff on my leg that 7 breaks in it. I have high blood pressure and I'm on meds for it but for some reason my blood pressure was very low. The same nurse went ahead and forced me to take a blood pressure med by iv dropping my blood pressure down to 35 over 14 putting my in ICU. They almost killed me. Most narcotics don't affect any pain for me. They never have and I don't like taking them. The nurse was forcing me to take Morphine. I told her I didn't want it and it does do anything for me. She said that's what the Doctor ordered and that's what I'm getting. I asked if I could get tylenol instead and she said no because the doctor didn't order it. I asked if we could talk to the doctor about it and she flat out said now. I will take what he ordered and that's it. She shot the morphine into my iv. Since then things have continued. I haven't been able to get a decent sponge bath yet. My body odor is so bad I have to have a fan blowing it away from me. I'm completely unable to get out of bed. I have 3 breaks in my left shoulder and 7 breaks in my right leg so I'm not physically able to get out of bed. I have a deathly allergy to fish and seafood so today for lunch they sent me up a tuna casserole then jumped me for not eating it.
I remember when I was younger Swedish American hospital was the best in the area. But now it no where I would want anyone to be at. O have met some pretty incredible nurses but the bad out ways the good by a long shot here.

I recently had my son at Swedish American and all of the staff was amazing. I never had a bad nurse taking care of me or my son when he was in the NICU. Everyone was encouraging and so helpful to us as new parents

The Emergency Room would get zero stars if I could rate it that. Their customer service is absolutely poor and the people behind the bullet resistant glass need some serious customer service training. They were treating everyone poorly. Possibly overworked and lacked basic human compassion. I would recommend not going there. The rest of the hospital I have been told is fantastic. It's too bad that their face has a black eye due to some of the unfriendly, non-compassionate people that work there.

Nothing like watching employees of the hospital take the front two rows of parking in a parking lot marked patient/ visitor. You would think there would be a common courtesy for your patients/ visitors!

I brought my mother to the ER on Monday afternoon. The waiting room was packed at that time, so I knew it would be a long wait. The staff were, for the most part, extremely polite and apologetic. They rate an A. We were in the waiting area for 4 hours during which time we were asked to come back and get BP, and then again for an Xray. During that 4 hours I never saw anyone cleaning or dinenfecting the restrooms or any of the waiting area.since my mother has been in an assisted living facility and I have self isolated at home, I am concerned about Covid.
Especially in an area where there were many sick people and no disenfecting. For this I give Swedish American a D-. The only reason the grade is not an F is the waiting area was not appearing dirty

Their emergency department is garbage. You get semi-adequate care if you can ever get seen... Been in the waiting room for 3 hours and counting. The ONLY good thing is the wi-fi. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.

Don't lose a loved one in the Emergency Room. Yo...

Don't lose a loved one in the Emergency Room. You will be put in a disgusting room and then be told someone will be with you in a minute. 20 minutes later after you complain and want to know what is going on, you are told they are waiting for a chaplain. Well if you didn't figure it out when you were put in the room, you certainly will figure it out when you were told they are waiting for the chaplain. Then don't take too long to grieve and say good byes because they will rush you out because they "need the room"! And don't expect any of the staff to be sympathetic or compassionate. The only person to show us compassion and sympathy was the coroner's representative. SwedishAmerican should seriously re-evaluate their mission statement!

Worse hospital I have ever been to. My son had a seizure and immediately took him to this hospital. We waited at least 3 minutes with my son limped in my arms while the verified our insurance. Then did blood work and said everything was good and tried to send us home. We later found out that the blood work was absolutely NOT OK. His blood work showed definite signs of a seizure!!!! After going to a real hospital my son was diagnosed with epilepsy and he needed to be put on seizure medication. Is there a negative star rating??

My father was diagnosed with congested heart failure and had to stay about a month at the heart hospital. The hospital has some of the greatest equipment and technology in place along with a very professional staff that provided the utmost care to my dad, and for that I am very thankful and highly recommend this medical facility.

In all of my 55 years I have never seen a hospital where you have to wait sooooo long to see a Dr. Even now, I have 7 out of 10 scale pain in my knee and can't even see my GP for over a week. And then God knows how long for an orthopedic Dr. I believe that is absolutely unacceptable and very unresponsive to their patients, and they, the schedulers, think it is just perfectly OK. What a load of crap!

I have always received fine, caring service here, especially from the nurses and CT and MRI people. My only objection, and it's a BIG one, is the fact that they employ hospitalists. When I am ill and hospitalized, the last thing I need is a doctor who has never laid eyes on me before. I chose and have continued to see my primary care physician because I trust him, and he knows my medical history and me. Having a stranger assigned to me is abhorrent to me.

Went there for a small bowel obstruction, all my medications were taken away, ended up staying for 9 days, when my head finally started hurting a house doctor said how long has your blood pressure been out of control, I said not since 1984, what do you expect when I have not received blood pressure medication in 5 days. And the surgeon called me a liar to my face the second day I was there, she saud dud you get up and walk, I saud no, the nurse told me to rest and the 3rd day they would gave me start walking, the surgeon said thats not true, I told you to get up and walk, I don't believe any nurse told you to rest. Thank God for St Anthony hospital, I've had 6 surgeries there and everyone has been fantastic.

My 30-yr old son was told that he needed a pacemaker by cardiologist at Swedes who was here temporarily from Pittsburgh. He son agrees to get one. A different cardiologist does the procedure. When we go for a follow-up appointment, we're told by a different cardiologist that he doesn't think my son needed a pacemaker! He wasn't familiar with my son's chart. He's supposed to review it and call me back. It took 3 weeks, I miss his call and I call back. The staff can't believe that he called me himself. It's been 3 business days and I'm still waiting for a return call!! We are getting a second opinion from Mercy Hospital. I can't say that I recommend this facility! I have other experiences too long to tell!

Had to give a shout out to my Nurse Diane in the Progressive Care Unit. This is April from room 301!! You made my first time at Sweedish American manageable. You're the best nurse I've ever had hands down. You deserve to be recognized for being personable, caring, and above and beyond. You went out of your way to give me important information about my antibiotics causing issues with my prescriptions. Thank you for caring so well for your patients, and I hope this review finds you!!

Although our care was outstanding and the facilities were great...I have to say there lack of protocol was unforgiveable.... my wife and I had our 2nd child there on the 3rd they were to keep her plesenta for us to capsulete it at a later date... we signed release forms for this to be done when asked for it they had lost it... how does this happen? I would like to know. When they are to keep it for a week. I know this is not common practice but how out of all patients does it happen to the one that want it done... sooo pissed off right now. Just wanted to let others know of there lack of caring during this matter.

This place SUCKS. My father checked himself out of hospice to come here and in the ER, we never saw a nurse, just a PA who had him admitted, but no one to check and see how he was doing. Then he got admitted and the nursing care was good at first but his hospital doctor is HORRIBLE. She actually told me that my dad's shortness of breath from COPD/emphysema was "psychological." I'm sure Sweds is good for some illnesses/patients, but if you're old and need someone to help you, forget it.

We decided to use Swedes when we found out we were pregnant and we are glad we did. Our nurses Michelle and Jordan did an excellent job in making sure that my fiance had everything she needed during labor and delivery and kept her going. Dr. Harb delivered our baby boy with no complications. And the post-partum staff was awesome when we were both exhausted and needed someone to take the baby for a few hours while we got some much needed rest. It's refreshing to see an entire staff that clearly cares a lot about what they do.

The skill of the staff was amazing. The nurse got my I.v. started on the very first try. Everybody was friendly and answered all of my questions. The doctor truly seemed to care about me and by that I mean that he took the time to talk to me and didn't rush off. The service was great and they made sure that I was comfortable.

Waiting room was only half full and wait wasn't too long. Did tests that my doctor wouldn't do. They held me 23 days against my will in the 4th floor (psychiatric unit.) I am a 20 year old, educated, well manored, and well behaved individual...not crazy. They insisted that I needed further evaluation the whole time, and said that if I took their meds it would shorten my stay. I attended every single group and took medications that only made me feel awful, and still nothing went my way. My Mother and a close friend visited almost every day in order to show I have family and places to stay. I missed almost a month of work because of these evil people. This stay totally messed me up financially. I talk to many people about getting a lawsuit, but everyone that works for the state is corrupt and they disregard my necessity. The state of Illinois is out of order, and changes need to be made. Someone told me, that legally I should have been able to leave after 10 days with or without consent. Never again will Swedish American get my stay or good word. Do NOT trust the state of Illinois

Very disappointing experienced went there because my ankle was swollen it has been swollen for awhile and I felt strong enough do get through but my wife wanted me too go immediately so here's this doctor that was extremely racist and arrogant. This doctor was asking so what's the emergency? and I'm thinking are you for real? Then on top of that he disrespected my wife by calling her a sir and she's a transgender woman and she deserves respect. The funny part was when the doctor called security on my wife because my wife confronting the doctor and since the doctor doesn't know how to do his job correctly of course. The security didn't come so what does that tell ya? But this other man Mark he was super kool and awesome he didn't vote for Donald Trump Thank God but he gave my wife and I respect and he took my blood twice and had to find my vein which was a little bit difficult but I got through it. So after all of that signed the discharge papers and head out needless to say I'm never going back to this crappy hospital or Rockford this racist judgmental ,homophobic, racist crappy town.

If you value your life and need actual medical attention do not come to this outrageous facility. My mom has severe progressive Multiple Sclerosis and was having a flare up. We waited 4 hours before being seen, they took us back, did blood work, and gave her a thing of mophine. We waited another hour in the reclining room with 8 other people, and finally after 5 hours, we got a room. After waiting an additional hour in the room itself, the doctor came in, touched my mothers abdomen twice, told her to follow up with her regular care physician (THE DOCTOR WHO SENT HER HERE), and to continue taking Ibuprofen. The pain is so bad she is throwing up and can barely walk. I have an autoimmune disorder and all of my 7 specialists are through the UW health system up in Madison, and they are incredible. This is supposed to be a "division" of UW Health but it brings complete shame to the UW name.

Worst hospital. They have this big sign on the building "top 100 in the nation" which makes you think you can trust them but please don't fall for that load of bull false advertisement. They have gotten cocky with that banner and have been slacking off badly ever since. My dad is diabetic and got an infection in his toe so it was in need of being amputated due to the severity. Dr.Corcoran had the procedure done in one of the hospitals clinics and gave him no medication during and after the procedure. Imagine an amputation like that, not even any pain killers were even prescribed to him. Most importantly no antibiotic to help heal and prevent any other infection was given. Very irresponsible. They have so much patients coming in like a cattle of cows that the doctors there are desensitized and no longer see us as humans but more like numbers. And then when it came to me asking him whether his actions led to the outcome of my dad getting an infection again was due to his medical malpractice, he blamed it on my dad having diabetes and did not apologize or sympathize with us whats so ever. We gave up on them and decided to go to Memorial where the doctors are trying to fix what he messed up because of his lack of concern for his patient. I would recommend Memorial Hospital due to the experience there or maybe OSF but anything is better than this place.

I had the worst experience ever at this hospital if you truly love your family or friends I would keep them as far away from this hospital as possible. They are careless there ambulance staff are very rude an judgemental they really made me uncomfortable on how they dont show any care about your pain or concerns. ER staff is exactly the same they almost let me hyperventilate an die in the hall I had to stand up an address my own problems to get them to finally listen then they asked no questions concerning my health until I had to address my health to them. All in all I would give this place a 0 stars but I can't an again if you truly care for your loved ones keep them away from here they really don't care about your life!

Turn around as quick as you can! Sadly my mother was brought to this Hospital Emergency Room and passed away with what we were told "Septic Shock" - From the time she was brought in, diagnosed, and taken care of our heads were spinning. No one had a clue of what they were doing. Our mom was put through so much when we asked what was going on we were told multiple different stories. We truly don't even know what she passed away from. So unprofessional, a life has been lost but to them it was "rush, rush" onto the next person. We are saddened. Transfer a loved one into Chicago/Elgin area.

Please pick another ER it's bottom of the barrel. I went to the Swedes ER the other night. The admitting nurse was very good. After letting her hear my issues she said that it sounds like Covid-19. That's when the normalcy ended. I was put in a room. They didn't say anything. A CNA came in asked me questions after about 30 minutes, she said "here's the remote" Putit was covered in some sticky slime of mucus or vomit. I look over and the bed controls have some nasty dried bodily fluid on them. The CNAs were diagnosing me they all seemed new. waited for almost 2 hours and it didnt inspire confidence. I couldn't take it and left.

This ER is not the place to go for mental health (or anything else if you can help it). With the exception of a few kind nurses who bother to make you feel like your health matters, most ER employees I've interacted with here do not have what it takes to treat people well under pressure. I've seen people lose consciousness in the waiting room and be ignored when it wasn't even busy. My daughter was suicidal and we almost lost her because the staff didnt take her seriously and she left after informing them that she was an immediate threat to herself and being belittled and left alone. Training in this area is seriously lacking. If you are worried that you or a loved one is a threat to themself or others, please go elsewhere if you can. This place puts people in danger. (I have not had issues with appointments at this location, only in the emergency room)

Overall nursing staff was fabulous. Key word being overall. However, Dr.Ghani is a hospitalist, his bedside manner is HORRIBLE, he NEVER asked me questions regarding how I was feeling or what I felt was wrong, despite the fact that I was the admitted patient, I was even in the ICC for 2 days out 4. He was cold, and truly seemed to not care one bit. He took it a step further and left directions for the other doctors not to help me or change any of HIS ORDERS! Who black balls a patient. My biggest and final complaint is HIPAA. They violated that FEDERAL guideline frequently. I U doors don't close so whatever conversation staff has, if you are a coherent (not many are), then you can hear them talk about every patient whether good or bad, but when the Dr talked about me, that struck a chord. The lack of professionalism was overwhelming and hurtful and in the end was detrimental to my health. Think twice before going here. There are wonderful doctors but now that I had him I will never go back.

Is there a zero star button? Seriously this place is a zoo. People leaving to go to another hospital, people begging to be seen, and they did not rush to get my mother in when she was so weak she couldn't stand her blood sugar levels were off ( big time) and 3 hours there and asking the nurse how much longer and she says we haven't hit our time yet (huh?) She said patients avaraga 5-7 hours there.. ( really??) I personally did not hear one positive word from any patients. This used to be a good hospital, not anymore. If I could post pictures I would. Bathrooms were also a pigsty. I will try my darnest to boycott this place.

My wife came into Swedes by ambulance as she started bleeding and was not quite sure where it came from. At the er I cannot even remember the doctor even touching me but decideing to check me into the hospital. They did a lot of paperwork especially for the first twenty hours. We decided to do a colonoscopy with the understanding that I would also get hemmorhoids taken care of. I got down there and thy said that was a different procedure. They said they would call in a gynecologist and that was not done so I am out and still not figured out about the bleed. Most of the nurses were great but I saw one that dropped crap on the floor picked it up and used it. I went in to find answers and got more questions. Cross contamination is a big problem. That needs to be stressed more. Doctors are a gift to us but there is stuff that needs bucking up.

I did not have a good experience with Dr. Mohan.

My brother was admitted to Swedish American hospital with chest pains. He has an extensive history of heart disease and is currently an outpatient at University of Wisconsin's CHF program in Madison, WI. He is being evaluated for an LVAD.

I am his advocate and have permission to access all his records. I live in Chicago but was on the phone with my brother when Dr. Mohan came in to speak to him. By listening to the conversation I could tell she was not a cardiologist and my brother asked if she would speak with me. She stated that she did not have the time!!! Unbelievable. I had important information regarding his health that I wanted to discuss with her. I later talked to the nurse and she was very professional. I would never recommend this doctor.

Had a bad experience with labor and delivery. They had one doctor on call and 13 other women including me were having babies. Felt like no one was checkin in on me, was in labor for almost 24 hours and ended up needing a csection. I was 10cm dilated but my cervix swelled up, probably did cause I was ready to deliver but had no nurse checkin in on me enough to guide me. I actually ended up going to the emergency room this Sunday for rib pain and had a better experience in the emergency department then I did in labor/delivery.
