The sushi/sashimi itself was fantastic, but I have to echo the sentiment of some of the other reviewers on here -- BEWARE the cost of the omakase. There is no listed price for it and the waiter described the pricing in a deceptive way that made it sound like it was about $80 a person. The actual price was roughly 2-3 times higher than that per person. Insanely expensive. We got a plate of sushi, a plate of sashimi, a maki roll, and a hand roll. It was not a lot of food and the price nearly knocked us over. So as good as the fish was, we don't appreciate the deceptive pricing practices of this restaurant and will not be returning.

Absolutely superb, but very pricey. We went when Yasuda was still there and we got to site with him serving us. He was an extremely colorful character and talkative. We had a great time, and probably the best rice I've ever had on Sushi. The fish was good too.

Really unfortunate experience here, ordered the omakase and was presented with warm, stale, poorly presented, unappetizing sashimi. Requested to stop the dinner right away, and the restaurant didn't make me pay, the only bright spot of the meal. Had high hopes for this place.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I WENT IN HERE WITH MY FRIEND AND THE WAITER KEPT TRYING TO KICK OUT PAYING CUSTOMERS FOR NO REASON....ABSOLUTELY OVER RATED AND DESERVES ZERO STAR.

HORRIBLE SERVICE. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE. NEVER AGAIN.

As for the food, it is no doubt some of the best sushi I've ever had in the states or in Japan.

My main gripe with this place is the service. When you make reservations and pay over $600 for 4 people you don't expect to be rushed by the waiters and eventually cut off from ordering more sushi. We were told we could not order anymore sushi.... after only about an hour and 20 minutes. Ridiculous.

I felt like I was reliving the Simpsons episode where Homer was kicked out of the all you can eat seafood place... except this wasn't all you can eat... it was expensive... and for the price... the portions weren't that big. We waited all day for this meal and thus we were hungry.

Poor form and not something I've ever experienced elsewhere. I will not return.

Had the omakase meal here as my friend took me out to celebrate for my bday and I had an okay experience. The fish were fresh but the service wasn't too impressive. For all fairness, I'm comparing with other Michelin 1 starred venues, that serve Japanese cuisine.

They served their omakase in a batch, and you can basically continue to more batches after another until you satisfy yourself. The first batch came out in a timely fashion but the second batch took more than 20 minutes. And we had to prompt the server to get the second batch. It seemed he must have forgotten to register our order but he instead made up with some irrational excuse how the bar had a huge backorder, while the table next to us who came after us was constantly getting delivered their food.

At the end the total came out to be more than $400USD+tip for two. I would probably not repeat.

That said here's my breakdown:

Food: 5/5
Service: 3/5
Value: 3/5

INCREADIBLE. The best sushi I have ever had. Incredible service and a wonderful menu that is sure to please any sushi lover. Highly recommend would give a 10 star review if I could, truly fantastic.

Incredible experience every single time. It is definitely worth it to reserve for the bar and definitely do the omakase. The quality of the fish is unparalleled, and the skill of the sushi chefs is obvious.

Of course, the price point is pretty high, but I've had omakases that were even more expensive in the city and weren't necessarily better. The service was courteous and attentive. Overall amazing meal, would recommend if you're looking to splurge on amazing quality sushi.

This is a great place to go if you have a special occasion, it will leave a dent in your pocket. That being said, it is completely worth it. The omakase is ongoing until you tell the chef to stop. All the pieces are fresh and amazing. Pieces melt in your mouth.

Service and staff are amazing. We went over our time limit for our dinner, but the manager moved us over to another table so that we could finish celebrating our friends birthday. They are very strict on the timing set at the bar. Usually 2 hours. Side note, they do not accept tip, everything is included already in the bill. Just like they do in Japan.

Bad attitude. Stay away. I was excited to take my son to have sushi in Yasuda and faced lousy attitude by the host. It was a hot day and both of us were wearing T-shirts and I had shorts. This made the host frown and he told us to walk away. Shame :(

I followed a previous review from another site and made a reservation to sit in front of Yasuda. While I feel like the quality of the sushi from other chefs would still be good, having a person with that level of knowledge and expertise serving you makes the experience that much more enjoyable. The quality of it all was great and the service was fantastic.

The best sushi spot in the city. I've been to Japan and I still think Sushi Yasuda is one of the best sushi spots I've ever been to. The fish is so fresh and high quality it's unparalleled. The service is top notch and the ambience is modern yet relaxed. They paint wasabi and soy sauce on the sushi so you know from the start this is not your average spot. Sushi Yasuda is amazing.

Despite losing its eponymous chef, this "stunning" Grand Central area Japanese standout is still serving sushi that's among "NYC's best"; equally "flawless" service in "simple" blond-wood digs help justify the "expensive" tabs though the $23 dinner prix fixe "may be the best deal" in town.

A bit of the Japanese culture of quality at the heart of NYC. Excellent sushi place. The prix fixe menu at lunch is good value. If time and money are no object, go for the omakase. Uncompromising quality.

Disappointed. We ordered the Omakase because we don t want to pick the fish by ourselves and expect a little surprise from the chef. The appetizers are great. But then the fish lacks variety and can hardly meet the standard with this price. And it is even not as fresh as some cheaper restaurant with large volumes. I won t try any sushi restaurant at this price level in US anymore. It is quite disappointing.

Best sushis I've ever had. Every bite was a foodgasm. Expensive but worth every penny. Decor is modern and minimalist. Calm and relaxing. For an unforgettable experience, choose a seat at the sushi counter.

Went this place for lunch, guess our expectations was too big for $25 lunch prix fix, fish was fresh, but was not the best sushi ever,,,,sry;;; really wanted to like it. And was told that they didn't have any toro for the service,, when their menu offers five different types of them. I guess we should have done $200 omekase to experience the real deal;;,

Best sushi I ve had so far in New York. I m talking about pure sushi/sashimi quality. It really doesn t get much better. Gratuity is not accepted (or think of it as included). So the face value is expensive but not so bad when you do the math - still pricey. But for good reason. I would come back any day! There is some real value here if you know what to order. You can get 10 sushi pieces plus a roll for $48. That s a deal if you look at their a la carts prices. I did do the omakase, the chef basically keeps giving you sushi based on your preferences until you tell him to stop. You are basically charged a la carte and it s tallied up in the end. Worth the experience! All the fish is high quality and fresh. It s only a matter of what you like and don t like.

The quality of the suhsi here is extremely good, if not the best. Lunch special is fantastic value. Only taking a star off because I once got food poisoning here; and once I saw a fight break out among diners (very unusual).

Different than other sushi experiences I've had. Everything is definitely fresh and definitely entirely different than your typical sushi. No crazy American rolls, but they do what they do well.

Loved this place. Went for lunch with good old friends. Had a good old time. The decor, colors, setup and ambience are all light and refreshing. As was the food. A perfect match of simplicity and elegance. Every bite was true to itself and outstanding at what it set out to be. Tried a whole bunch of different fish and they were all delicious. The service was quick yet familial, friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back.

Interior is minimalist. Service is brusque. Food is expensive...and worth every penny. The chefs know what they're doing, from the cut of the fish (thick, and just the right amount of fat) to the seasoning (perfect, and you don't need to add anything to it) to the order they serve it (saving the richest for last). The sushi matsu gives good variety for less steep a price than omakase. The chirashi looks small, but is packed with fish. The uni from California is creamy and delightfully fishy. The sea scallop is firm and shiny and fresh. The eel is plump and tender. The shrimp is sweet and firm, savory but might. The oyster carried the taste of the ocean. Today was my first time eating here, but certainly not the last. And, tip: sit at the bar.

overprice for the quality of the food. The ratio of vinegar is a bit high, so you can't taste the freshness of the seafood. I am japanese and i do feel the staff (excluding the sushi chef) are quite rude. Quality of food - i would say 3 star; service is 1 or 0. Spent your money on other sushi store.

Yum

Get ready to pay, but also get ready to have some truly physics-bending sushi. Of course sitting at the counter is a must if you're going the omakase. Also, underrated feature, I loved the lack of music. I thought it would make me feel tense, but it was like a cozy library where you can just eat in peace and talk at a normal volume to the people you're with.

Celebrated a Birthday at Sushi Yasuda and had a great meal. We ordered crab appetizer, fish liver and miso sea bass. Everything was fresh and delicious. Fish liver just melted in our mouth. We asked them to add w carafe of hot sake which went well. For main course we did the sushi prefix meal. Fatty Tuna roll was added on and every piece of sushi was very fresh and good. Must try.

More like a 4.5 - really good sushi. Not quite the best, but definitely close to the 5 star arena for it's price range. The biggest problem I had with the nigiri was that the rice would come apart as you picked it up from the plate. But regardless - highly recommended. Lunch for 2 was close to $200, and can definitely be much higher depending on your appetite and penchant for pricey cuts of fish.

One of the best sushi experiences to have in NYC. Our sushi chef spent an hour with us, feeding us the most delicious seafood. Omakase is the way to go at this place. You havee to make reservations weeks in advance.
