My favorite sushi place in the entire city! Everything is is fresh and simple but oh so good! Compares to the freshness I experienced in Japan even being on the other side of the globe. They keep it simple and let the ingredients do the talking. None of that flashy fusion stuff that a lot of the other Michelin starred sushi restaurants are trying to do, drenching everything in some mayo or other sauce. Just simple FRESH ingredients prepared the right way with great techniques

The one sushi restaurant I keep on coming back to in NYC. Best enjoyed if you really want traditional japanese sushi. I never get the omakase, but order individually for only the good stuff. Sitting by the bar is a must.

Have not had this fabulous food in a while. A generous neighborhood treated us to take out. It was the best meal we have had since the stay at home order took effect.

It was a pleasant surprise. Some foods don't travel well or translate well into take out. Our meal was well packaged, sort of like a little present.

I really hope this restaurant survives! I want to dine here again.

When it come to sushi I am fussy and trust only a few in the city. From previous experiences, I ve also noted before I m not a keen fan of Chinese a la Sushi places in the city. Chinese con Mexican etc. We were in the neighborhood before a show and wanted a lighter pre-show dinner. Yaska was the only game in the area and begrudgingly decided to try it.

The interior was comfortable and service was friendly and our server was quick to get our order. The restaurant had a good Sunday night population seemingly enjoying their Japanese dinner.

Ordered the sushi deluxe platter with the tempura appetizer. The tempura was light, crispy and not oily at all. Served with three type of salt and soy sauce dipping sauce. The sushi platter was equally satisfying. The rice was balanced and fish fresh.

Yaska might not have made me a complete convert as my Japanese friends will still snub their nose at it. As far as I m concern it does a good job for the 85% of NYC sushi eating population.

Not what it used to be. Waitress pushed us to let the chef chose altough we did not request omakase. Food was mediocre at best. I specifically asked to not be served eel but that was ignored. Manager asked us to leave the sushi counter and get our desert at a table because sushi counter was only booked for 1h30mn. Zero respect for customers

If you are looking for high quality sushi with a true Japanese experience this is the place to come. You are kindly greeted at the door giving a great first impression before even being seated. Once seated they immediately get you drinks, which you will never have to ask for more water and if you get tea they will bring fresh tea out before you finish so that you always have hot tea. The quality of all the sushi/sashimi is outstanding in taste and freshness while still being priced reasonably, and they have a wide selection to choose from. The staff is very attentive in keeping your table clear once you finish each dish, so it is never cluttered and they are very knowledgeable and helpful. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who truly enjoys sushi.

I had a very high expectation for this place but was little disappointed. We found the quality of sushi is inconsistent, some of them rice was too cold and became hard. The rice is relatively too much for the the each sushi. I may give it a second chance in a later time.

Food is definitely of high quality but service was really poor. The waiters looked bored and/or annoyed the whole time. They didn't bother properly explaining the food they served us. After a few appetizers, we took the omakase: disappointment. It was not so different from the regular sushi menu (served on a table next to us) but way more expensive! We waited so long for the first two rounds of sushi that we decided to stop there although we were still hungry. And the service is already included in the check so we paid it full!

Out of all the omakase's I have been to, the food/service was the least impressive, but the bill was the biggest of all. It is totally commercialized and lacks the "experience" factor. Also I do not agree with not knowing how much I owe them until I get the bill. The atmosphere wasn't intimate at all.

Having lived in Japan for a significant period, I have pretty high standards for sushi. That being said Yasuda produces the best sushi I've ever had in the States and even rivals places in Japan. The fish is always fresh and the service is exceptional. Extra points for fresh Wasabi. By the end of the meal you might forget you're still in New York.

The minimalist interior is not great for special occasions. The prices are exorbitant! I love sushi and would eat it every day if I could. However, I could never justify paying so much per piece of fish. The average person would need about 15 pieces to be full. You're bound to spend at least $60 on food here. The good thing is, they have done away with tips here and pay their staff decent wages. The bad thing is that their sushi(fish with rice) is bland. Eat only the sashimi and stay away from the sushi.

We arrived with no reservation and we were placed in the end of the restaurant while other tables and spaces available. The attention was horrible, as they didn t explain how the menus work properly and the waiters had lots of miscommunication on the service. Not a good service at all, they weren t very nice either, something that you may expect from a place that doesn t allow tipping. Also, quite expensive for what it offers, the chopsticks are hideous.

Love, love, love their Uni (sea urchin).

I am a big fan of traditional Sushi, and this place is right up my ally.

Great service. Nice waitress/waiters. Sushi looked absolutely gorgeous and was fresh to the taste. Did not have to wait long to get served. Very expensive so I wouldn't recommend if you're on a budget. They do have a time limit for how long you stay. For my party of 6 we had 2.5 hrs. Funny thing we all happen to finish eating around the 2 hour mark so it's a decent enough time to enjoy yourself.

Amazing service. Be warned, definitely reserve a week or two in advance.

We started off with miso soup and seaweed salad and complimentary matcha tea (unlimited). There were 6 types of seaweeds in the salad with a sesame like dressing. The miso was not too salty but a nice delicate flavor to avoid coming off strong on the palette.

Next up were the tuna sashimi and it was amazing. Followed by sushi. The rice was fantastically seasoned and any time you are unsure how to eat it, the waiter would be happy to teach you. 5/5 I'd come back.

Was really looking forward to having dinner at this sushi temple in New York City. But I have to admit that I was very underwhelmed by the quality of the fish as well as the service. Very underwhelming experience for $500 (for 2) I will never come back.

The fish here is some of the best quality but be very wary of the omakase. We asked about how much it generally costs and they said about $80/person on average. They will keep bringing you sushi without asking so you think it is within range. It was not communicated that we needed to tell them to stop or they would keep bringing sushi out. The bill was INSANE. What they are doing here is very shady in my opinion. I expected it to be maybe a little more or a little less but it was WAY OFF.

I wish I had something to add here that other people haven't, but I don't. I'll just say that this could very well be the best sushi I've had in my life. I'm not sure how frequently I'll go back, as it's not cheap, but it's a fantastic special occasion.

Even though I made reservations for the sushi bar the receptions insisted I did not - they only got convinced after I showed them the log from my cell phone. I made reservation for the bar but was seated in the back room.
Omakasen was mediocre Very expensive and served at a very slow. Found myself leaving last after others who appeared long after my entry to the restaurant.
Place to avoid

Awesome sushi place !!!!

Awesome sushi place !!!!
Prepare for an expensive meal but it is matched with a reammy high quality of technique and ingredients !
We ordered the omakase at the sushi bar, which means the sushi chef had us try various fish (if not almost all of them) and listened to our preferences and remade for us the one we liked most at the end.
This is an expensive option though (we paid $ 200 each) but an unforgettable experience.

Just spent $268 for a small sushi lunch box for take out a few days ago. Yasuda is not as good as it used to be. The quality of their sushi is way below average now. It s not only not worth the price, the quality of the sushi ( especially California uni ) is knocking down their store sign. Not to mention that I also had diarrhea at the end of the day. It s sad to see you like this, Sushi Yasuda.

Having told them beforehand we have a baby, they didn't ask or notice their policy of not allowing babies under 5 inside. Waste of time. And BTW, the main chef Yasuda-san doesn't work here anymore.

I have visited a lot of decent sushi place in NY as a sushi lover.

I have always wanted to try this place but it was always busy but this time i have business guests coming from abroad and luckily i was able to book for 3 of us at 6 PM.

We arrived on time and was seated but then one of the business associates was late due to work so we were ordering some appetizer and beer to start OMAKASE (course menu). The waitress came a few times during our communication and urged us to order more or start OMAKASE on our own..... I said he is on the way but a few minutes later waitress came and we have to order right there because there are busy.
We were literally forced order course menu for 3 people when one person was not even seated. And then what happened ????
They served all the sushi in one plate for 3 people...... Do you all know what OMAKASE (course menu) is right ? The sushi has to be served one by one as the sushi maker makes it to have fresh sushi. all the sushi in one plate is sushi combo not the OMAKASE (course menu). I was humiliated.... i have been all the nice sushi restaurants but none of the sushi restaurant served all the sushi at once and to make the matter worse and worse ??? My business partner arrived shortly after we receive those combination sushi in 15 minutes the waitress came and our time is over and we need to finish it. I was dumbfounded and then wanted to talk to general manager or any manager. Without necessity of calling him he showed up and he was even worse guy. He was like Japanese bully with almost bald hair. He said we need to finish right away.... Can you guys believe this ?????? This is not real. We had no choice but to leave the spot because as a civilian we did not want to make issues and i know that restaurants has the right to shoo the people....

Please do not experience that in that restaurant... You won't enjoy your time with friend, family or any business associates. really nightmare.

My favorite sushi spot in NYC. My experience rivaled Masa in every way and my wallet wasn't assaulted in the same way. Don't get me wrong I went all out and when the bill came it was higher than I expected at $250 but in retrospect it was worth it as I've never eaten that much toro in one sitting. I'll definitely be back as the Omakase is so much fun.

The most fresh and most delicious tasting sushi I have had in nyc . As a native New Yorker there is more than enough choices of sushi restaurants . However , this is sushi for the foodies. It s not a place for those looking to have a party or to be in the most sought after place du jour . This restaurant is a cut above . The staff caters to your taste buds . Very clean just enough space and comfortable . The sake is superb and $$$. I can t say enough about the sushi . If you are looking to appreciate what you are eating and be satiated at the same time , This is the place to go . Will be returning .

They've remodeled since then, which is great. They got new floors and tables and seems like less of a hole in the wall. I love their combo options... Can never go wrong with the uni. We would get the Lily or Orchid option most of the time. The food is pretty fresh, so don't hesitate to stop by.
